Before Thistle I used Blue Apron and also ate meat. Blue Apron doesn't offer a vegan option so I had to explore for options that would deliver to Oakland, priced fairly and also tasty. I started my vegan diet with the diversity of Thistle options and it's made this transition extremely easy. Having to transition to veganism and learn how to cook amazing meals would have been impossible plus.... I don't enjoy cooking. SUBSTITUTIONS: This is really the key to a great Thistle experience. I don't like salads so I'll look on Thistles menu a week early and substitute a salad for a more hearty dish that I like more. Lowered my initial review score. I had cancelled after a few missed order then started up again as I missed the pre-made salads. This Xmas holiday I had skipped several weeks as I was out of town. When I got back my Wednesday order showed up with an order from Dec 24th that I had skipped. The 24th food order that I had skipped showed up on the 29th with an expiry date of the 30th (today) I was also charged for this skipped order and they used my credit from my previous missed delivery for it. It took them several days to get back to me on my missed order and there was no effort to make it up and if you don't call them they won't credit. I now just want to use my credit up and then cancel again as their logistics are so messed up. They keep blaming everyone else but themselves for messed up deliveries and orders. read more

LOVE the food, HATE the service I have no complaints about the food. It was so good, we put up with the ongoing delivery and service issues for 6 months even though about half of our deliveries had issues. Regular challenges included food we ordered not being included, or our canceling orders while out of town, only to find that we were charged and the delivery was sent (and told that we were wrong and hadn't canceled -- and unfortunately, their app system doesn't send emails confirming cancelations). But the biggest, weekly challenge was with deliveries. Delivery times were after our bedtime, which would be fine if they were delivered to our door, but about half of the deliveries were sent to neighbors (sometimes as far as 5 blocks away), or left on the street and sidewalk out in the rain, about 30 feet from our door. It was kind of a crapshoot what would happen with it every week. I currently have more than 20 Thistle bags because the delivery people never picked them up. So in summary, we were paying large amounts of money for food we often didn't order or weren't in town to eat, and when we were in town it was stressful tracking down where it was. read more

Maybe the food is good but if you can't get it at a reasonable hour or if you have issues and you can not reach anyone by phone. Super unfriendly and inconvenient. They just didn't deliver my food! I only had one week of this setvice. The food was good so I actually expanded my order and they didn't deliver it due to an error on their part. I watched the delivery guy on my nest open the car door, look for my order, call someone and leave. Then I got a text saying they couldn't deliver it and my account would be credited. It's with a heavy heart that I give Thistle the lowest possible score. If there was a negative... I'd rate them way below ZERO. I really wanted to see them succeed & even tried their service twice. The entire thing and business model is a Shit show. I was paying $800 a month for food. They just couldn't pull it together to keep my business. I can't imagine that they will stay in Business. First go around they were supposed to drop my meal at my office with the receptionist. They would leave it at the back of the building (once hanging in a door handle right below a sign that read ... "No access this door remains locked/ enter on other side of building). They have left it an hour before my delivery window outside the front of a large public Building, they left it in the hallway... not even inside my office suite... it very rarely made into my office. Totally hit or miss getting a customer service rep. Several days left without meals. 2nd go around... talked to them and they promised to get it together. Delivery to my apartment between 6-8:00am. That didn't happen. 9:30... is come home from work and the food would be clearly spoiled. Bags would be left outside of my building instead of at my door as agreed.... Delivery is a serious shitshow. I really tried and was more than patient. Delivery is unreliable. It's like a scavenger hunt on a daily basis. There were issues with the quality, consistency and freshness of the food. Variety often sucks and ingredients... need improvement. They couldn't make it work for someone spending $800 a month. I wouldn't spend $1 That's my feedback. I order Thistle from time to time when work gets crazy or if I just feel like I need a nice dose of healthy/organic meals. The food is always fresh, sometimes a little bland, but I don't mind as much... nothing better than getting home after a long day and already having a meal ready to go! Their juices are great, you can add on as many as you'd like. My only complaints are that some items have been missing from my order. Wilted lettuce leaves on the day of delivery, disgustingly dry cubed chicken, and mistakenly sending me pork on several occasions tops my list of specific transgressions. I REALLY wanted to love this service. To their credit, the food is really good. I have enjoyed every meal I've received. The stars are for the food quality. The convenience and variety of food would work very well for me if the execution of delivery and order accuracy wasn't so problematic. It's been about 2 months and I receive deliveries twice per week. (3 meals per day, 5 days per week) My husband has the same plan. We are paying roughly $1600 per month for this service. I'm now searching for another option, here's why: Delivery #1, received someone else's order (name and address on bag clearly didn't match) and there were only a couple of meals in it. Not what I ordered. Thistle's solution was to apply a credit to my account. Unacceptable after such a poor first impression. They did refund my credit card when I pushed back. Okay, sometimes mistakes happen. Over the last few weeks we've had to reach out to customer service more often than we've received what we ordered. Problems have included, only my delivery being dropped off (husbands never received), Missing meals from one or both of our bags (this is the most common problem), but the kicker for me was Thistle's customer service lying to me about repeat meals. Each meal is labeled (Monday Breakfast, Tuesday Lunch etc). My husband and I both had the option of mixed, vegan and non-vegan meals. He would receive 6 different meals Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday for lunch and dinner. On multiple occasions I received duplicate meals in the same 3 day window. 2 Monday lunches and 2 Monday dinners, exact same meal except one vegan version and one with meat. When I complained (did not want a refund just wanted no repeats in same 3 day window) I was told that's just how it is when there's a vegan/meat mix. Nothing they could do for me. Clearly a lie since my husband had the exact setup I did and never received duplicate meals. Though I did actually get the number of meals ordered in this case it was still annoying. I ended up changing to only vegan so that I wouldn't have repeat meals. When food is missing Thistle's go-to solution is to credit your Thistle account. You have to specifically request a refund or they apply a credit. We'll be canceling and looking for a better option. The customer experience is poor and the waste from the deliveries was starting to bother us too. They will not reuse the plastic wrapped ice packs that come with every delivery. Really wanted thistle to work out, as it looks like it would be good, and I appreciated that the deliveries are in the morning and you have flexibility to swap out meals. The whole week was a nightmare with their delivery people. The first day the driver didn't even read instructions and I had to come get the food at 6 in the morning. The second time, the food was outside my door but it was someone else's food, and the third time the guy woke me up at 5:30am because he couldn't find the right elevator and it turns out he was standing right in front of it. And this isn't even getting into the food. While the breakfasts and snacks are decent, I ended up throwing away half my dinner every night. Before trying Thistle, I had a great experience with KleanLA but it was too expensive so came to try Thistle. Not even comparable. The final straw is when I came back from getting my meals at 5:30am from yet another lost driver and there is chicken in my meal.. and I ordered the vegan protein option. Have been attempting to try out this service for three months and each delivery that arrived was missing multiple meals or was not delivered at all. It's a shame since the chefs are actually doing amazing things in trying to cater to people with dietary restrictions; but, if you're a food delivery service and you never actually deliver the food, then there's a huge issue. Customer service routinely took four days to respond to inquiries about missing delivery items and never replaced the meals, they would simply issue a credit. Not worth it to join right now, huge kinks need to be worked out in the fulfillment & delivery sections of this service. I have been a long time subscriber, but recently realized that Thistle is being purposefully deceptive about the nutrition facts of their salads. When you order from their website the additional calories associated with their dressings are not advertised. When you receive your salad, you have to look closely at the very fine print to realize that they consider the dressing provided to be 2.5 servings. Often each serving is an additional 100 calories and 10 grams of fat. These are not factored into the advertised calorie content of their meals. Unless you like eating undressed salads, the additional toll can be up to 250 calories and 25 grams of fat! read more

This review is based on the absolute rudeness and disrespect I received from this morning's delivery person. I have been ordering from Thistle for a few weeks now. I've been satisfied with the food though I feel it is very expensive. That said, I've continued to order because it forces me to eat lunch, something I often do not do. This morning the delivery person was very angry because he had trouble finding my suite within a complex. He called me "ridiculous" for having the order sent to my work. And proceeded to degrade me because it took him 20mins and I did not give him "better instructions". He repeated "you are ridiculous" at least 3 times in our short 2min interaction. (Let me point out that this is at my palace of work. Coworkers standing around hearing this man degrade me!) I could have been rude back but being at my place of work, I simply apologized and informed him I he would no longer have to delivery my lunch. I was shocked at his behavior. The first delivery person called me when he became lost. Moving forward, I had no complaints or problems getting my food. This guy was out right rude and disrespectful. I hope that Thistle considers better training their delivery staff on costumer service protocols. I will no longer order from this company. I joined Thistle a year ago and cancelled within a week. My delivery was late or missed a few times and I didn't even like the food. Some days were delicious but some weren't so great and I didn't like how I couldn't control what I was getting. I signed up a month ago because I kept getting Facebook ads and seeing it all over my newsfeed. I was curious to see if they had changed at all (was hoping they did because having healthy food deliveried is key for me). I am happy to say they totally did!! The food is now fresh and tastes delicious. They added options to customize your meals so you can see the meal plan weeks in advance and decide if you want to keep that meal or swap it with a different one, which I also love. They have a section where you can filter for allergies and preferences. This is amazing for me because I have severe allergies and I feel so confident knowing that my food hasn't been cross contaminated. For people with allergies you know what I mean-- this is a huge game changer! I also have not experienced any delivery problems since rejoining. Food gets delivered on time and stays cold & fresh. Haven't cancelled yet and would definitely recommend to anyone with a busy lifestyle who's looking to eat healthy in the most convenient way possible. read more

I really wanted to love Thistle, but in the month I used the service there were just too many problems to ignore. And when I'm contacting customer service weekly on average, that's a hassle I don't want in my life. The good: -Food is really tasty. Lots of different ingredients and for it being vegan the menu rarely was boring. They offer a variety of vegan meals I haven't seen with other services. -Their customer service is pretty great. They answer really quickly (within minutes sometimes) via email and have never fought against giving me a credit or refund. The bad: -My first week, my salad had a rock in it (whatever, it's au naturale I get it) -Two smoothies were not properly closed and spilled all over the rest of the food on two separate occasions -Instead of vegan options, meat options were delivered to me on one occasion (I'm not a vegan or a strict vegetarian, I just don't eat pork or beef). It wasn't a big deal but it wasn't what I wanted. -Delivery was late twice by an hour The ugly: -The plastic waste is kind of astounding. Often times, there are up to two plastic ramekins inside the plastic salad or dinner containers. Please work faster on finding a compostable/reusable substitute, Thistle. I wanted to love Thistle because I really like their food. When it works well, it's really convenient. I wish the quality of their packing and delivery was more reliable, because I would love to go back. But right now, it just seems like a hassle. read more

Thistle is awesome! They have meat and no meat options. I choose the no meat option, they make it so incredibly easy to eat vegan. Every meal is also gluten free and dairy free by default. Excellent recipes, and they ask for feedback on each meal through their website. There's also an "up next" which allows me to see what's coming and switch out items if I don't care for them. So far there's only been 1 item I haven't loved or liked. The large juices/almond milks are wonderful! They also have some great delivery options. I choose to have mine delivered overnight by 5 AM. It arrives in an insulated bag with ice packs that can be returned and reused! Same thing with the juice bottles. Love that I'm not wasting anything! The meal packaging is all recyclable. In addition they ask if you want your doorbell rang and work out a handoff if you need. Super amazing company! Price is reasonable for my time and effort. I am a grad student in a intense program, I'm mentally exhausted by the time I come home. Before this I was great at meal prep each weekend, but I just can't even do that anymore; I know, and yes I would like some cheese with my whine. Terrible customer service. Even after calling and emailing they continued to send deliveries to my old address. They take days to respond and when they do it's a form letter which doesn't address the concern listed. When I did try to cancel service they kept sending and billing me for food anyway. I'm on Week 5 of Thistle meals, and enjoying it more and more with each week. Since I live in Orange County, I can't get door-to-door service--instead, OnTrac delivers my food one day per week (it used to be Wednesdays, but Thistle just shifted to Fridays). I had issues with the first three deliveries with OnTrac delivering my food late at night (causing food to spoil early), or tipping the boxes on their sides (causing food to spill all over the inside of the box), but I IM'd Thistle and called OnTrac, who both responded spectacularly, and the last two deliveries have been drama free. This review is only for the plant-based meals--which are vegan and gluten free. With the postal delivery service, I receive 9 meals a week. The breakdown is usually 2 breakfasts, 3 large salads or entrees, 3 soups, and 1 snack; although, sometimes the combination is slightly different. I can't order juices and a few other options available to door-to-door customers only, which I hope changes soon! Also, 9 meals is the most I can order for postal delivery, and I would absolutely order more if given the option. I mainly eat Thistle because I want a vegan option for tasty food that also includes anti-inflammatory ingredients. The only other meal service I tried previously had paleo-type food, but I decided meat isn't my thing right now. Every Thistle meal I've ever had has tasted 100% fresh! The menu rotates based on what's seasonal, and what their farmers are growing I guess, and you can taste the quality. Almost all of the ingredients are organic, and the salads are so fresh I've seen them last as long as 8 or 9 days without spoiling or wilting (with the exception of salads containing squash, which can start to go bad in 4-5 days). You can easily re-freeze the soups to thaw later, so these can potentially last a long time! And, as my husband and I have discovered, the portion sizes for almost every meal are large enough to split in two. With the exception of the soups, I almost never eat all of the food in a package as a single serving. Besides being incredibly fresh tasting, the food is very savory! There's not a lot of salt, so if that's how you prefer to add flavor or distinguish various flavors, know that you may have to add your own! The style of foods vary, as Thistle uses Indian flavors (e.g., chana masala), Italian (e.g., whole wheat pasta in marinara and mushrooms), Thai (e.g., Thai curry stew), Chinese (e.g., Asian salads), etc. In almost every shipment I eat something I've never had before, but love (last week it was Japanese seaweed, this week it's a crisped quinoa bar with coco and cayenne pepper). My favorite meals are too many to list, although I will say that I tend to enjoy all of the breakfast and soup options, the salads are usually winners, and the entrees tend to be my least favorite. Mostly this is because the entrees usually contain some type of greenery on the bottom (like salad or spinach) to be cooked with the plant protein, which I'm not a huge fan of. The only negatives I have are: 1) sometimes there are too many tart flavors (such as soup with lemon zest, and two or three salad dressings with a vinegar base); and, 2) as a shipping customer I don't have access to the full menu and don't get to alter my menu options, although I can preview what meals will be shipped to me each week. Overall, Thistle's vegan menu offers fantastic options for people who want really high quality food and interesting combinations of flavors/textures/colors! It's healthy, it's tasty, and it's quick since every meal can easily be warmed on the stovetop, in a microwave, or in an on-the-go mini slow cooker. read more

This service has been huge in helping me eat healthy while working difficult hours in a challenging job that makes it hard for me to prep healthy meals, but I continue to have issues with delivery. Even with detailed instructions on where to leave my delivery I've now not gotten two deliveries. This hugely impacts my week and ends up costing more money to eat out when it's already not cheap to subscribe to this service. There is no way to resolve issues until the next day, so you're out of luck if their delivery person can't read instructions and you find out at 10:30PM you don't have lunch for your 11 hour day tomorrow. I wish they had better resolution and maybe more support and training of their delivery drivers to improve service. LOVE LOVE LOVE thistle! I am vegan and cooking is always such a hassle - especially after work, commute and the gym it's usually 9pm when I get home. The food is simply amazing and I consider myself a picky eater. The support is phenomenal (quick, understanding, and nice), the food is impressively healthy - I wish I could meet their chef! My carnivore bf loves their vegan food too. The price is really reasonable if you compare to buying a weeks worth of dinner food at Whole Foods. Delivery is always on time and kept cold. Keep up the amazing work Thistle. Consider me a long time customer. The only small compliant I have is what am I supposed to do with so many thistle bags and ice cold packs!? I never post on Yelp, but I'm so disappointed. I liked the food, but out of the 4 weeks I ordered it, I only received 2 deliveries, and one was damaged. One time it didn't show at all, and the other was delayed a day, which made the food inedible (according to Thistle). And what sucks is they aren't able to ship out another order. So now I have to make a special trip to the store tomorrow, which defeats the purpose of having food delivery. If they used anything other than OnTrac, it would probably be fine. That is the worst delivery service I've ever seen. If my food actually arrived, I would have given a great rating. read more

I joined Thistle about 6 months ago. I love the concept and love Thistle when it works the way it's supposed to. Easy, healthy eating for busy people. This girl does not have time for healthy meal prep! However, I'm sad to say the delivery has been an absolute mess. This delivery issue has occurred at both my current home address and previous home address. I have been late to work on multiple accounts because my meals were delivered outside the window. I keep giving it another shot thinking that they must be working on fixing this problem, but it continues. Frustrating way to start the day, for sure. Especially because the purpose is for it to simplify your life, not add stress. This morning was my last straw. I received a text at 6:00am that my delivery would arrive in approximately 14 minutes. By 7:30am it still hadn't arrived. I ended up cancelling the order. Approximate status updates would be helpful if they were accurate. Not so helpful when I readjust my morning based on approximate delivery time and then it further complicates everything when the follow-through fails. I received another text at 11:59am saying my order is on the way and will arrive in approximately 15 minutes. Why am I receiving this way past my delivery window and after I cancelled my order? Not sure. These notifications and deliveries are whack! I appreciate Thistle crediting their customers when there is an issue, however I wish the delivery was reliable to begin with. I'm giving Thistle a break for now. If the delivery part is figured out then I would be interested in signing back on to it again in the future! read more

Really disappointed. I did not receive my delivery today despite being notified by the Thistle team that the delivery was at the door. I reached out to them almost immediately (within the hour) to let them know that I had not received it. They sent me a picture of the front door that it was delivered at. I confirmed right away that it wasn't our door. That was it. Subsequent messages said that they were unable to get a delivery to me this week and my money was being refunded. They were unable to get the wrongly delivered box to me nor deliver a box tomorrow. That was super disappointing and for me, takes Thistle down several notches. The reason I am doing Thistle is to have food reliably delivered to me, and if they are not able to do that, I question their value. Started eating Thistle a couple of months ago and immediately fell in love. Healthy meals with large portions that are delivered to you AND delicious? What could you not like about it. I have really tried to love Thistle but they have horrible communication and big delays in responding - I don't eat pork and they say I can substitute but they forget/don't care and keep sending it. The salads are great and have flavor and texture but the "Asian Inspired" dishes are like leftovers with little flavor.
