This company is inspiring me to write my second yelp review. The meals are very good but the customer service is absurdly bad. On average there is a problem with the order 20-30% of the time. The company just repeatedly leaves out meals and in spite of reporting this each time they continue to make the errors. We've had many exploded meal containers and deliveries a day late are now the norm. We haven't yet found another vegan meal service where we live in the Bay Area and when we do we'll be happy to leave Thistle. read more

i have been consistently using thistle for about 4 months now. I needed a healthy, dietary concerns friendly, and low effort meal service and they hit all of these marks. the breakfast smoothies and oatmeals weren't too appetizing for me, but i add their scrambles when i can because i really enjoy those. the lunches are probably my favorite part, and i am a person who HATED salad before this experience. i say about 80% of the dinners i like, however some i won't enjoy due to my own preferences (although i think the pastas need a lot of work in general). the delivery window is extremely broad and they always end up coming really Early, so i tend to miss the delivery. however the driver still manages to drop the food in my GATED apartment which is awesome. i do wish there was another way to drop the bags or pick up a missed delivery later in the day. the customer service is extremely helpful and this service can really benefit those with eating disorders or any health concerns. as i read through these reviews, about 75% of the complaints people had seemed to be errors that would occur with any consistent delivery services. i see the pros as far outweighing the cons- they havs amazing customer service and are admitting that their service has room for improvement. they simply need to expand over time and I'm sure they will fix a lot of the things people complain about. read more

Food great, delivery BEYOND sucks. Maybe you will get everything you paid for... maybe, but probably not That issue is not the drivers' fault that's the warehouse's issue which also sucks. In the few weeks I've used Thistle, I have yet to get a complete order. The drivers pay no attention to the delivery instructions, ring or call before the scheduled drop-offs (really early in the morning), lie saying they dropped off food when they didn't, or go to the wrong address...duh... and rely solely on their phones to find the address. I will try one more time then I am done. Whoever runs the business has such a great product but horrible people working for them as far as getting orders complete/correct AND to your door, not the neighbor's house down the street. Looking at other reviews it seems this is an ongoing problem.I don't know how this place survives. Come on Thistle! Is this place covering for something else, like the carwash in Breaking Bad? WTH? read more

My main issue with this has, and always will be, with the DELIVERY PEOPLE who are INCAPABLE of following directions. Are you scraping the bottom of the barrel with people? Are you hiring TSA dropouts? Or maybe it's the people who give the instructions to the delivery people, and fill the orders, etc. Whoever it is, ought to be FIRED bc you are losing customers left and right!!!! Though as far as the ACTUAL delivery people, I can't tell you how many times I've had my items misdelivered, stolen, etc. bc they can't be bothered to read my notes. i.e. When the notes say DO NOT RING THE DOORBELL, then do NOT ring the doorbell!! Or do NOT leave them unattended, then leave the items with the doorman!! 1. My main gripe is that Thistle makes it so that you cannot update the delivery address unless it's something like TWO WEEKS (advance) notice!! That's INSANE! The food, from what I understand, is being made in the East Bay, and then being delivered to SF! The one time I needed an address change it would've been a difference of only a few BLOCKS, yet I was not allowed to make the request (and we are talking more than 24 hours notice). That, to me, is insane... 2. The meals sometimes get repetitive. I used to order the lunches, but then I felt like I was eating the same thing every...single...day. I switched to dinners and it has gotten better (though more thoughts on that below). 3. I actually think the portions are pretty great, and I sometimes eat half for lunch and the other half for dinner. 4. I LOVE the avocado and chocolate mousse, and the chocolate flourless bar. However, I WISH there was a way to select the snacks you want for the week, i.e. so that I could order more of the desserts and less of the carrots and hummus snack. So I have a sweet tooth? So what!?!? haha. But for real- if I want my snacks to be all mousses and chocolate, then I should be able to pay for what I want. 5. Your website is kind of annoying when it comes to navigating, logging on, and trying to access and update things. I feel like it is not set up in a very logical or user-friendly way. It ALWAYS annoys me bc I have to scroll in strange places or the opposite direction to access certain info. 6. Again, please do something about your delivery ppl because their incompetence has made me so angry and caused me to badmouth an otherwise great company on a few occasions- and that is not fair to you!! Oh, and maybe switch up some of the meals. I know that can be hard to do as you are trying to stay under a certain price point, but maybe your chefs can come up with items from the test kitchen, and people can opt to sign up for meal samples before they go live? That could offset some of the costs and allow for experimentation? Just a thought. :)) read more

Meal prep was occupying way too much of my headspace, time, and energy. I'm a very busy, fitness professional and need quality food ready to go to maintain my activity levels so I don't crash and burn. I sought out Thistle 2 months ago to try and solve this issue. I love that the food is fresh, organic, and plant based. I enjoy eating vegan all week and then having meat and dairy on the weekends. Yes, there are a lot of salads for lunch. For me this is not a problem. The dressings have all been amazing! I'm starting to get a few repeats but that is to be expected and I look forward to a few of my favorite items returning. Dinners are usually heated up items, like a stew, soup, curry, or stir fry. I also get the snacks, which are the same every day of the week. My favorites are Tuesday's 24 Carrot Gold Muffin and the hummus and veggies on Thursdays, but they are all great. Often I get the juice of the day as well. They are all super fresh and tasty. The green juices, Hunter and Verdance are a must but I love Lava, yum! I plan to do a one day juice cleanse with them soon. I've tried a few of the breakfast items, my favorite being one of the tofu scrambles, but I usually do overnight oats as that is super easy and cheap for me to do on my own. I have had a few issues with delivery. Twice in one week they delivered to the wrong house but I was able to locate it with the live support fairly easily. One day all of my lunches & dinners for Monday and Tuesday weren't included, just snacks and a breakfast item I did not order. This was highly irritating as I had nothing else to eat at work. Another time, the wrong protein was included, pork, which I don't eat. And finally, some of the broth from the ramen spilled since the lid was not properly sealed. Every incident was handled quickly and I was given a credit to my account right away. So far this hasn't been enough to make me cancel as I really love to quality of the product when it's correct. I spend way less time at the grocery store and kitchen and more time being productive. This is worth the extra $80 or so that I am spending on food per week. Thanks Thistle! I hope to continue to use your services for a long time! read more

First time. The Brazilian Chile with Coconut Spoon Bread was really good for who likes salty-sweet. The service was amazing, it was delivered in 2 minutes (not kidding), you got 2 texts saying the driver will be here in 2 mn and when he arrives. And you can even track the driver. Good food and service ! Nice job ! read more

Although the food is just as described last time, we are continuing to have delivery issues. I'm horrible at eating breakfast, even after I do morning workouts. It's so bad that I end up searching for things at my desk to munch on. Often, this means candy at 9am. Really bad, I know. (Hey! The candy is at least sweetened with fruit juice and has 35% of the recommended vitamin C daily value...) Anyway, here comes Thistle. I found out about it by accident. I was drawn in by the promise of organic juices. I noticed their bases were vegan so I tried the food, too - and am I glad I did! To top it all off, they deliver to my office early! I opted for a whole week with breakfast, lunch and juices. The food is delicious and exactly enough to feel full without being over stuffed. The full feeling lasts, too, so you're not reaching for that bag of chips later on in the day. I love that they use mostly organic ingredients and that everything is pretty simple but oh, so tasty! When you opt for delivery, yes, everything comes cold in a cold bag with freezer packs. If you want things to be hot, have a heating method ready if you want to eat right away. I don't think you'll need it that often, though, since lots of their food dishes are salads, etc. One extra thing I wanted to mention is that I had to hold one of my delivery days because I had a last minute out-of-the-office on a Friday and I didn't want them to deliver while I was out. They got back to me within 20 minutes confirming what day they could change the delivery to. Hurray! Thanks Thistlers. Keep the goodness coming! read more

Thistle was recommended to me by one of my favorite Stanford docs. It's her goto meal service anytime she wants to drop a few pounds or is just feeling her diet's been lacking high nutrition. So this is Healthy eating. You're going to eat a salad every day for lunch. Yeah, we actually should all do that. Your dinner is going to be veggie packed. It's very, very plant based, and it's not boring. There, I said it, vegetables are delicious and can taste 100 different ways. You can go totally vegan or add a meat protein. Either way is delicious. So, whenever my work life is demanding huge amounts of time, I find I'm not making time to shop and cook, notice I'm throwing out all those healthy veggies I shopped for, I go to Thistle. I eat well, really well, it's delivered fresh to my door, and life's suddenly all good. Delicious, healthy, convenient, inexpensive. Really, what more could you ask for. read more

Thistle - Food Delivery Services Near Me

Thistle's meals are so delicious and exciting. They really fill you up and keep you on track! That is....if you ever receive them. Monday: I received my first delivery, I received a text just before 2am stating my food had been delivered, it had not actually been delivered yet. Two hours later it was delivered within the window it was actually supposed to be delivered in (between 3-6am). The delivery driver did not follow the directions I have written in the instructions. I had asked them to leave it behind the gate since packages have been stolen on my street. Also the smoothie was not cold due to how it was packed. All of the ice was ok the bottom of the bag. I emailed customer support. I was told they would retrain that driver specifically to pay more attention to the instructions and let the warehouse know about the packaging issue. I was refunded the amount for the smoothie and credited $10. Wednesday: I received my order, no issues. It was delivered as instructed. Friday: I received a text at 1:33am stating my order had arrived. I went out at 3:30am to put it away. It wasn't there. I checked my surveillance cameras to see what happened, no one had delivered. I figured there was a problem with when the text was sent out and that it would be deliver by 6am. I checked later a little after 7am and still no delivery. I called and spoke with customer service, she apologized and said according to what she was checking the bag was not given to the driver at the warehouse to be delivered for some reason. She could not reschedule a delivery in the San Diego are so she refunded me. I am now canceling my service. So disappointing they can't get the delivery issues resolved because the food is so yummy. Two stars only because the food is good and customer service is apologetic, polite and professional. read more

I really like the concept of this business, and I'm VERY impressed with the menu items as they are all creative and well balanced. However, while the food is pretty good, the portion sizes are ridiculously small. I know one pays a premium for this type of food, but comparable businesses (Green Heart Foods, Project Juice) offer bigger portions at a more reasonable price. I wouldn't mind paying an extra few bucks for delivery if it meant that I would get a larger portion for the stated price. read more

2nd day trying Thistle and here's my review on why you should give it a try: 1) Portioned properly 2) Convenience for a busy life 3) Reasonably priced. The amount I would spend on groceries (which at times goes to waste when I don't use an item before going bad) is the nearly the same as a delicious 5-day meal plan (that does not go to waste and is fresh). 4) Awesome delivery service and re-usable bags that you leave outside for them to pick up when delivery of next meal. I've been a happy thistle customer for over 2 years. Thistle delivers healthy, delicious food to my door on a consistent basis. I am very disappointed in Thistle's way of handling my issue. I ordered food from Thistle (Order # if you have that information) and with it came dessert called Lemon Mousse Cup. Upon eating the dessert, my throat start to itch and close up to the point that I could barely breathe or talk! My husband saw what was happening to me and immediately called 911. My young kids saw the entire episode with me not being able to breathe, the EMT's showing up to my house and I having to be carried out on a stretcher! My kids (5 year old and 1 year old) were crying with scared looks on their faces as to what is happening to their mommy and why is she being taken away. My husband was so worried as he knows that I don't have any allergies. At the hospital, the ER doctor told me that I had an allergic reaction to the Lemon Mousse Cup that I ate. He asked me if I had any food allergies and I stated that I didn't. I was then told to go see a doctor and get tested to make sure that I don't have any food allergies. I did get a food allergy test done and nothing came up that I am allergic too. The doctor told me that the reaction could be due to cross contamination with other foods. The disappointment with Thistle is that when I let them know of the issue and also requested a sample of their Lemon Mousse Cup so that my doctor could test it to figure out what triggered this, they have been no help at all! They refused to give me a sample or even basic information such as ingredients that went into the cup. A company should always have their customers best interest in mind, specially when it comes to cooking food! Thistle is definitely not one of them! Please beware of what they prepare and distribute before buying anything from them! read more

Thistle is amazing. WHY?! Calm down, I'm about to tell you, jeez. 1.) Vegetarian meal plans are hard to come by and Thistle delivers (a lot of their meals are vegan-friendly, too). 2.) The food is bomb.com. Everything is packed with flavor. Never are you getting a boring salad for lunch (which is tough to do when you remove the traditional proteins). They load you up on spiced chickpeas, seasoned brown rice, creamy, pesto cashew dressings- and sometimes all three. The dinners are equally as wonderful with spices and recipes from all over the world. 3.) The meals are filling. Honestly, on the first Monday I took one look at the compact boxes and thought, "Man, I'm going to be hungry in an hour." Not the case. They nailed the mix of complex carbs + veggies + protein to keep you full for a while. 4.) The juice is delish! I ordered just Lunch and Dinner meals + juice and ended up drinking juice as part of my breakfast with a light homemade egg white scramble. Give it a try, your tastebuds and your too-lazy-to-cook moods will thank you. read more

I had been seeing this food delivery service all over the internet. So I finally gave it a shot and was so excited to try the food. I had written the wrong address on my account and luckily there was an issue with the delivery service so I was able to change my delivery address! My delivery was pushed back a day so I got a refund which was nice but when I received my food, it was spilling all over and the items were warm to the touch. I emailed customer service and they got back to me telling me not to eat the items. Then I changed my delivery service again because I was so excited to try the meals. I sat down to have lunch and I found a LONG hair in my salad. I give up. I emailed them and got a full refund and cancelled all upcoming deliveries.. read more

I've been using Thistle for about 2 months now and it has been a real game changer for me. I'm not fortunate enough to have 2-3 meals catered at work every day, and I was in a real rut as far as meal prepping/bringing my own lunches (honestly, you can only eat a quinoa bowl so many times per week). With a referral code from a coworker, I signed up for lunch to be delivered 3x per week. At first, I was surprised at how pricey it is, but quickly realized for me, it's worth it. I typically get the lunch options (which are bowls or salads), and they are filling, very fresh, and well-portioned. If I were to get a salad out at lunch it would be between $13-$15 anyways, so when I count the convenience and the potentially wasted food (since I'm meal prep challenged) it's definitely worth it for me. The meals themselves vary from week to week, and I haven't had anything repeated yet in my 8 weeks of deliveries. If you don't like an option, you can select a replacement item the week before. I default to the vegetarian option and typically add the meat protein on 1-2 meals a week if I feel like it. Everything has tasted great so far! I think the deliveries structure could be improved. Currently you select a delivery widow for the night before (i.e. Sunday night for a Monday delivery), and I've set 7-10PM since Sunday afternoon activities are pretty variable for me. You get a text 1-5 minutes before your delivery arrives, which is difficult to be prepared for. Most apps have a time window or countdown, so sometimes it can be a pain to be home for the 3-hour duration of the delivery window and be ready for it at any time. Once I had a delivery come at 10:30 PM which is pushing it for a Sunday night, IMHO (customer service was quick to respond to my inquiry). I hope the kinks can be worked out because the product is really great! Overall very satisfied with the quality and customer service. read more

This is a long-term review of Thistle, as I have been a member for about 2.5 years and I still love them. For me it comes down to three essential elements: the meals are healthy, delicious and superefficient. Healthy - plant-based meals are my go-to if I shop or cook for myself, however, when left to my own devices at a restaurant...let's just say I'm flexitarian! That's one reason I'm happy to have a Thistle nearby when I finally take a late lunch at my desk...it's the perfect antidote to heading to the taco truck. Each meal is nutrient rich and I always feel satiated. CHECK! Delicious - I personally love the element of surprise in getting my deliveries each week. Since I don't have any particular dislikes or allergies and enjoy trying all the new recipes their chefs are constantly rotate into the menus, the single-option menu is perfect for me. They almost never repeat as far as I can tell! Right now I am loving their stews which are international and introduce all kinds of unique flavors. CHECK! Efficiency - I didn't expect to save time and money doing Thistle but that's what happened. Now I only buy Thistle and breakfast. I go to the grocery store half as often, and rarely throw away wasted food like I used to. Most importantly to me, I save myself time which is worth the most. CHECK! Thistle is so effortless and makes me feel great that it just blends right into my life. The customer service is outstanding and the app and website are really well put together. I have recommended them to so many friends and family and do the same for you. read more

I was super duper impressed by thistle's food quality!! Super tasty, well balanced, and nutritious. It felt like a real meal from a restaurant that was sent to my home rather than some processed packaged junk from a supermarket. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to eat super well at home without cooking for themselves. read more

Thistle is a godsend during the pandemic. I was stress-eating low-nutrition food for the first few weeks of the sheltering in place order, and wasn't feeling good, so I decided to switch it up and order meals through Thistle to improve my nutrition and outsmart my impulse-eating. What a difference it has made! I have eaten 12 meals so far from Thistle, all good-sized portions with fresh, healthy ingredients, lots of variety, and tasty combinations. Thistle meals are improving my physical health and my mental health noticeably, for which I am sincerely grateful. I heartily recommend this service, especially for those of us who are lucky enough to still be working long work hours and can use the support. Thank you, Thistle! read more

Another cold-pressed juice favorite! I missed my Living Green juice days and so glad I finally have my juice days back again! I have the honor of drinking these juices lately and so far every juice I have tried is amazing. I have tried Pearl, Verdance, Ruby, Coconut, Autumn, Orange. My most favorite one would have to be the Pearl. It is perfectly sweetened by dates and it's so creamy and almond-y, so delicious! If you are feeling adventurous - Try the Ruby (beets and various vegies). Healthy? Get Verdance (green juice). Thirsty? Get Coconut. Something sweet? Get the Pearl. To pair a meal? Orange or Autumn. They are all so healthy and good, it's almost impossible to dislike their juice. Love their cute little paper tag on each juice bottle as well and the cursive juice name. Very stylish. If only I have these in my fridge at home all the time. I would be one happy camper! read more

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you value convenience and healthy food it's probably 4+ stars. I found the food to be very healthy and pretty good and good variety, but the portions were too small, especially for the price. They do a good job of keeping things fresh, but there's only so much you can do when delivering some meals 36 hours ahead of when they'll be consumed. I'd prefer to bring my own lunch or pick something up nearby. But if you have a job where you can't leave the office then Thistle is a good option. read more

I've tried many food delivery services such as Blue Aperon, Gobble, Home Chef etc. Thistle was kind of a let down compared to all the others. It came out to 16$ per meal (non-veg option), the portion sizes were quite small (not enough calories for the average person) and the taste was very average. It wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. At this price Door Dash is better. On the flip side customer service was very quick to respond and I like the fact that the food is ready to eat. I'll give them a shot again if the prices drop significantly. read more

I can't tell you how bad this service is. I used it for I would say about two to three months. First, their food isn't cheap, at least not cheaper than what you'd pay outside for a reasonable to-go meal, which is important because the meals aren't good. Some are okay but this food isn't tasty. And their menu isn't diverse so you just eat the same thing over and over. That's not the real issue though. The real issue is their service a implementation. It's terrible. If you want to be woken up at 3-4 in the morning (unreasonable and unreliable delivery times), have deliveries not arrive, (I have never had one full week where have I have had deliveries come on time or seamlessly. they've literally left deliveries on the middle of the street or hidden them around LA with no communication), or struggle with a staff the can't employ the slightest bit of common sense, then this place is for you. Plus it just wastes tons of plastic. There is a reason they have so many one and two-star reviews. read more

I signed up as an alternative to Jenny Craig or other portioned food program (because it's yuck). I'm on my first week of deliveries with Thistle and things are off to a bumpy start. My Monday delivery was missing a juice, but the bag was partially unzipped so maybe it rolled out the delivery person vehicle? Today's Turkish apricot salad with pork loin was sadly missing the apricots. :(. Considering even established restaurants can screw up to go orders, this isn't that unusual, but being a startup without superb attention to detail is either unusual or a sign of growing pains. Looking ahead at menu items, everything seems to be a tasty and low calorie line up. I did enjoy their "Autumn" juice (the one I did receive). I'm not sure what I'm going to do once I start traveling for work. They only deliver 2 days worth at a time, and my home address coastwise is not in their delivery zone. I'd love to see some freezable options so that customers could opt for a "travel" week or a once a week delivery option. Price point is a little on the high end for my budget, especially if the orders continue to have mistakes. Verdict is not totally out and I will modify once I've had a few more weeks to try out. read more

I'm in my third week of using Thistle (vegan) and can offer the following about my experience so far: PROS (1) Meals are delicious, nutritious, filling. I've had some I've liked more than others and only one I didn't like (I'm not a fan of bok choy...and the dish was loaded with it.) (2) Overall, modest cost savings when factoring in time spent shopping/prepping/cooking. And there is no food waste with the service (see #1). (3) Lots of variety day-to-day so there's always something to look forward to trying. CONS (1) Delivery service has been worsening each week - no problems week #1 and was really happy with the overall experience; no breakfasts included in week #2 and was disappointed to learn there's no way to have anything redelivered (a credit was offered); no meals delivered at all so far in week #3 (in spite of text messages saying delivery has been made). I notified the Customer Success Team each time there's been an issue. (2) The Customer Success Team isn't available to address delivery concerns in real time - a credit is offered, but trust in the reliability of service is degraded. I'd recommend having someone available to man phones or Zen Desk until delivery is complete so customers can at least connect with someone to learn what options exist. (3) Can be challenging to swap out or cancel items in advance - ie because delivery times are fairly rigid and offered three times per week, if you don't need meals on day 1 (of 2 days delivered at a time), no meals are delivered at all - even if you want day 2. This may be a fluke as I've only tried this once due to travel conflicts. I'm gonna see what the rest of week #3 holds before making a final decision about continuing on. Consistency is key for customer experience and, perhaps these are still growing pains for the company -- though similar things reported in prior yelp reviews. For the price, I'd like to see accuracy in delivery and more responsiveness from "customer success" team when things go wrong. UPDATE 7/15/18: I finished week #3, but continued to experience issues with order delivery being incomplete in spite of confirming details with the customer success team. When my final delivery of the week arrived missing a meal, I decided to cancel. I have provided feedback along the way and hope this will make the service better in the future. read more
