I love the convenience! Thistle delivers to my house before work and I literally grab the meals and go. I used to eat bagels and cereal for breakfast and now I have breakfast that's actually good for me. I feel so much better now - it's amazing. read more

Thistle is the one and only meal prep service that works. I swear by it. I'm not guaranteeing the flavor is always amazing, because it is super healthy, but you will meet your health goals. I've tried every meal prep option in Los Angeles and this is the best. I've had to contact support about pausing my meal plan while out of town and so far so good! No complaints here, the 4 stars is just for the fact that it is healthy so some meals are super bland. read more

I've been getting Thistle for two months now (5 days a week). I like the idea of eating clean and vegan, and that the cooking is very minimal, but the quality of the food that arrives is really a hit or miss, if the food even comes. I've had times where they'd deliver one item of three, and they'd deliver it past midnight instead of 6-8am that I stipulated, and the food just sits out there for hours (my neighbour across the street saw the delivery man drop it off and told me the next day). I've also had food look and smell less than fresh, probably from sitting out there and not refrigerated. After a while, the food really does start to taste the same. I'll probably keep ordering just because I hate cooking, eat out way too much, and I love the snacks and some of the salads, but I'd probably give dinners a miss. read more

I'm not a vegan, but I love their vegan dishes. It's really changed my diet to be far more plant-based, which is great. This would be five stars just based on the meals, but I've had several delivery issues. They've always been incredibly helpful with credits, etc. when things get delivered wrong, but they do get delivered wrong every couple of weeks, which makes it less convenient. read more

Highly recommend this program to anyone who wants a convenient way of eating healthy on a consistent basis. Love the variety, portions can be larger than expected, but it's ok since you are eating all veggies and low, healthy carbs and proteins. I do wish they would change up their snacks. I stopped ordering those because I got bored of the same thing. But their fresh Juices are great and again love the program overall! read more

I have been receiving meals from Thistle since July. The meals are amazing! Their chefs do an incredible job creating delicious and healthy meals; they come ready to eat/heat, and are so good. Have lost over 30 pounds (easily), and am so impressed with this company. Their customer support has been wonderful, too. read more

I have been extremely pleased with Thistle food delivery service. I have tried quite a few different services, and Thistle is superior in food freshness, delivery and customer service. The food selections are varied, the pressed juices are my absolute favorite, and the fresh baby avocados are so tangy and outrageous. I am a very busy executive and nothing makes me happier as I run out the front door on my way to the office than seeing my fresh delivery in its ice cooler bag waiting there for me to grab. Great, health, food. I LOVE IT. read more

Have not had any problems with delivery here in SoCal -- food has been there on time, 100% of the time. Some of the dishes are not my favorite, but as I'm learning, I am able to use the swap-out feature to replace the dishes I don't like with ones that I do. My #1 gripe is that there is never enough salad dressing for the salads, and I have complained multiple times and even suggested offering a second container for purchase, but I didn't really expect they would listen to my suggestion anyway. Has helped me lose a moderate amount of weight. Very healthy food, and for vegan, pretty darn delicious. (I'm a lacto-ovo veg and do miss my cheese from time to time.) read more

I have a mixed review. I like the food. Not everyone is a home run however they are creative, fresh and have good variety. I get the animal protein meals. Operationally, they have been a mess since the new year. Not sure what's up but have had an intolerable number of missed deliveries. I was just googling to see if they have a competitor to switch to after the most recent dropped ball and lack of responsiveness on the customer team side. Get it right folks or you will be gone next year. read more

I am not a frequent reviewer, but I feel obligated to share my two cents in light of some of the reviews below. First, while I like some meals better than others, on average I'd say the meals are pretty tasty, especially considering they are vegan and gluten free (something I am not used to). The portions are generous and generally keep me full throughout the day. Second, I have found the customer service to be very good and responsive. Third, I have never had an issue with delivery. In sum, I am just not sure I understand the basis for the complaints in other review. Thistle is exactly as advertised. Are there better alternatives out there? read more

Love this company. I can successfully diet while eating these salads. Lost 6 lbs my first week. Tastes like I'm eating things that would be unhealthy bc the flavor is great! I would spend a lot more money here if the meatless salads were $10-$12. read more

In love with Thistle salads! They have so many veggies going on and the dressings are so healthy and yummy. I always look forward to my Thistle lunch. read more

Great food but HORRIBLE service! My delivery just never arrived one day, when I called customer support they said the driver was on the other side of town so I assumed it would still arrive at some point and it never did! Called left messages and emailed multiple times for a week for a refund or something and NO ONE has gotten back to me! Really a shame cause the food is good but makes me think it's a scam. Haven't gotten a refund missing delivery and no word from anyone for over a week! Don't bother with them! read more

I've tried about half a dozen different food delivery services and Thistle is the most fresh, healthy and delicious. I started a very busy new job about 6 weeks ago with a considerable commute. Lunch is taken care of 3 times a week with Thistle and sometimes dinner, too. I like that I don't have to prepare or cook anything. I was pretty shocked at the amount of saturated fat and "beige carbs" in the meals with other services, but with Thistle I get really good stuff like red quinoa, blueberry, kale, sweet potatoes, ground turkey, etc. I hope Thistle is doing well and stays in biz! I'm doing my best to help. read more

I tried thistle based on a recommendation. I am so glad i signed up for 3 days only. I am trying the first day's meal (salad w/quinoa) and its horrible!! The greens are wilted, grapes and apples are rotting and turned brown, celery is dry and turned white. The salad has no taste whatsoever. I can live with no taste but i thought freshness is what they are known for!? read more

I'm obsessed. I am a very busy person and hate cooking/grocery shopping. I've tried other meal delivery services and they either had minuscule portions or the food was gross and repetitive. Thistle is delicious, delivered a few times a week to guarantee freshness, and has left me feeling awesome and not craving unhealthy foods. I'll definitely be using it indefinitely! read more

Not only is the food fresh and very healthy (seriously they make eating your vegetables actually enjoyable), but the customer service is superb. The chat box on the site was answered in less by a minute both times I used it, and they even helped me out when one of my meals went missing. I wish more companies cared about their patrons the way Thistle does. read more

Super healthy meals but after 4 months it seemed like everything tasted the same. I tried dinners, lunches and soups. Like the soups a lot. Way too many curry meals, many very bland meals. I enjoyed having premade meals. Even though it seemed like there were a variety of meals, they still ended up being so similar I began dreading the next meal. And remember they look pretty in the picture but you are dumping it into a pan and it's all mixed up and not so pretty when you warm it up. Another thing is the website says "We also reuse our cooler bags and ice packs (leave them out to be picked up during your next delivery!)." This is NOT true - in Vacaville they discard 100% of ALL ice packs. The poor delivery people know this and do not like having to cart back the saggy leaking 2-3 day old ice packs. They also have unfair labor practices like not paying their delivery people for the return drive back to the hub, no matter how many miles away they are sent. Their orientation states they must turn off the tracking app at the home of the last delivery and that is what determines how many hours/miles they are paid. So if they are 100 miles away - their drive back to the hub is free to Thistle and on the driver - how is that fair! They need to be sustainable to the earth and their employees as well. Yes I think I am happy that I am finished with my Thistle experience. read more

Have you ever almost swallowed a piece of scrap metal that was hidden in your food? I have, thanks to Thistle. This company seriously should be out of business soon. Thistle is plagued with operational problems, which means you will often get missed deliveries, wrong deliveries, rotten food, or other indicators of poor customer service. When you complain, they always try to give you a "credit" but never a refund. Every week I had 2-3 problems with food quality, delivery, or both. It was always something, and it was *so* stressful. I thought this company was supposed to take the stress OUT of healthy eating? I would even get woken up at 5am by text messages saying my food was on its way--after opting out of those messages THREE times. Clearly something was not working with their systems. The real kicker for me was when I found a piece of scrap metal in my avocado pudding. Actually, it was in my mouth when I found it--but it came from the pudding. I almost swallowed it! I can't even imagine what kind of medical bills I would have had if that scrap metal had made its way through my digestive tract. Also--why would there be scrap metal in their food? Doesn't Thistle cook everything from scratch, using real food? The metal looked like it was from the lid of a can and got mangled in one of the food processors. Paying almost $1,000/month for this kind of treatment is just absurd. The sad thing is, some of the food was actually good. Their salads were generally very filling and had a good flavor and mix of ingredients. Too bad that operational mismanagement is sinking the company. Clearly other customers aren't happy either. read more

I used code HEATHER493 for $20 off first week of delivery. I've ordered thistle meal delivery for 3 weeks now as I've adopted a plant-based diet. The food itself is pretty good for the most part. They do tend to rely on added oils sometimes more than I would like but overall a healthy and convenient option for my busy work weeks. 3 stars comes from repeated issues with incorrectly labeled foods - i.e. Getting meat in dishes labeled as vegan and vice versa. The company may not fully be ready to deal with the volume of demand and therefore these mistakes happen. When I reported receiving meals I can't eat I was issued a credit to my account for the following weeks delivery... no mention of replacing meals I paid for and now was left having to scramble to put together a last minute alternative. I was assured that measures were being taken to avoid these errors in the future but this being my 3rd week and the problem still occurring is a big issue. It's a shame because it's so convenient and a great concept but their execution falls short. read more

I have tried other food delivery systems and Thistle blows the competition away! I ordered the vegan option for my teenage son and when we got our first delivery and he saw all the vegetables, he was leery. I'm not vegan, but I thought it looked pretty good. Long story short, we ended up fighting over it. We've only had three deliveries so far but we are both hooked. The meals are not only very fresh, but so far every one has been incredibly delicious. We feel so good about eating healthy. We also really appreciate that the chef/s are not just relying a bunch of spice to substitute for the natural taste.of the food. Bravo Thistle! read more

I'm a meat eater who was looking to get more veggies in my diet. When you're busy, stressed and pressed for time, it's also hard to eat healthily, so I decided to give the Thistle vegan meal plan a try. After the first week I was already looking forward to more. Not a big fan of salads, so I opted to receive only breakfasts and dinners. Everything is quality and so tasty you don't even realize it's all plant-based, even if I do often "spike" some of the dishes with butter and cheese. Overall, Thistle has shown me that vegan recipes can be delicious and non-boring. No problems with delivery either so far. read more

I love Thistle so much, I wish I could buy stock in this company! It is amazing! If they went away, I would be devastated. Seriously. The recipes just keep getting better and better. Learning to cook is on my to-do list, but really....why bother? Thistle is delicious, healthy, and keeps me from wasting money (I buy food, then run out of time to prepare it, and ultimately compost it). Seriously, you will not regret signing up for Thistle! read more

I had a few problems with delivery early on but they've gotten sooooo much better in the last few months. Plus, their CS team always reaches out and corrects any mistakes. read more

Healthy meals delivered to my door? Yessss. Makes eating healthy a no brainer. So down with this service.

I love thistle. The food is fresh and super healthy. No added sugar, pure ingredients. The customer service team has been super helpful every time I have called. I have the 4x a week lunch plan and 3x per week dinner plan. Perfect way to get through my busy work week without having to eat unhealthy food out at a restaurant where you have no idea if sugar has been added or if wheat has been added to everything or if the ingredients are fresh. Love love love this service. read more

I really hoped this was going to work but like so many other reviews the orders have been messed up 2 out of 4 times. The food is decent and healthy but when you don't get what you ordered 50% of the time why bother? They should get their act together before attempting a delivery service. I have had 2 other services for months and not once did they miss or mess up an order. Customer service is good and they do refunds but that's not the point. Sorry Thistle but we gave you one more shot and you blew it. Never again. read more

So I have tried every food delivery service you can think of. I tried the very expensive ones (Freshology), and the very cheap ones (Diet to Go). I've done Munchery, Power Supply, Plate, and many others. I've tried pre-ordering from The Plant or Blue Barn for easy lunch or dinner pick-up. And I've finally found THISTLE! Thistle is definitely the BEST one I've used. I don't want to "diet" ... I want enough calories to get me through my workouts, but I just want my food to be healthy, wholesome, real food that tastes good. The reason most people try a delivery service is to make eating healthy "easy" ... Thistle definitely does that. My food is always at my door by 7am (they also do overnight delivery if you want), and delivered 3x a week, so it doesn't go bad. I choose to get 3 meals a day, plus a juice and a snack. Sometimes I don't love the juice, but it's not because it's not well-made, it's just because sometimes I don't personally like the flavor. But 4x out of 5, I love the juice. They let you substitute certain snacks and meals if you don't like one type of snack. I eat meat, so I get the meat version, and they have a pretty good variety of meats. Look, you're not going to get fresh salmon or steak, it's mostly chicken, pork, and ground turkey. But they flavor their meals really well, so it works out. The breakfasts have gotten a lot better and are now very hearty and sustaining. I eat gluten and dairy, but it is nice that for my Monday-Friday meals I am not consuming those items, because even though I love them, I know they are inflammatory. In the beginning, I wished that Thistle would do a 7 day/week delivery, but now I'm glad that it's only M-F. It gives me an opportunity to be flexible with myself, which keeps me on track. For me, food delivery is all about 1) convenience, 2) healthy options, 3) not starving myself, 4) affordability. Most food delivery options only offer 2 out of those 4 options. Thistle has all 4. It is not cheaper than buying groceries - not at all ... but it is much cheaper than buying a healthy meal at a restaurant for each meal. I am always full enough, and I can get through my workouts with no problem. On especially hard workout days, I might supplement with some extra fruit or snack bar that I have handy, but not usually. If I go out of town, I can pause my order for a week, and then it starts back up whenever I want it to. I've been doing Thistle for over 2 months now, and it's really great. With old food delivery plans, I would get really bored after a few weeks, but this one is easy to stick with. I've written to their customer service twice, and they always respond immediately and address everything I've asked for. I highly recommend that you always use a big mixing bowl or a separate plate when you get your meals, because the veggies are usually on bottom, and you need to get the dressings onto the veggies, so you'll need to remove the top items first to properly mix. I'm writing this review so that more people sign up for Thistle and so they can stay affordable with a lot of subscribers! I'm a big fan. These 2 pictures don't do the taste justice, but I'll upload more pictures next week. read more

Thistle - before it's all mixed up - Food Delivery Services Near Me

See all

I tried Thistle for 8 months and just cancelled the service for several reasons. 1) My house is literally 20 miles from their kitchen in the East Bay, in fact I AM in the East Bay! Yet I am not allowed full access to their menu and no delivery - only 2-day shipping. I am only able to receive the Wednesday and Thursday scheduled meals with no changes, no substitutions. It's either Weds and Thurs meals or no meals. 2) They SHIPPED the meals as 2-day shipping! They didn't charge for shipping thank goodness but still, you can do personal delivery to San Jose but not Contra Costa County? So then I had to deal with discarding the large shipping box, packaging inserts, and "blue ice" myself, no chance for a delivery person to pick up the next week. 3) Because of the whole 2 day shipping thing, my salads were made on Sunday but I didn't get them until late Wednesday afternoon so, yes, I'm going to be a bit suspect as to the freshness of that salad. Fortunately none of the salads seemed to have gone bad but they seemed just on the verge of it so I always ate them the same day I got them. 3) The food containers are flimsy and food frequently leaks out and a few times the containers were broken (again, why shipping!). I was refunded for those that were broken after a difficult time getting in touch with customer service. 4) The meals are heavy on the vinegar side! Pickled this, pickled that, and what's not pickled (ie. vegan pasta) has a heavy vinegar sauce! Now I am a bit fan of vinegar and pickles and pickled things, on my own I use vinegar frequently in my own cooking. But EVERY single Thistle meal - pastas, salads, everything was pickled and/or had an overall heavy vinegar taste and it just got to be too much. My theory is that they make all the meals on the weekends and so to ensure that the meals stay "fresh" for the week's deliveries they mix vinegar into everything, which is a natural preservative but hey, too much is too much. 5) Very little rotation of meals. I seemed to get the same (Weds and Thurs) meals over and over again. On the plus side a few of the meals were very excellent, restaurant quality for an affordable price. I loved that everything is gluten free, lactose free and never had to worry about the ingredients. Their business model is commendable and love that they are using local ingredients, and their prices are super affordable. But in the end the negatives outweighed the positive and decided it wasn't worth it. read more

I live in San Jose and I'm really into food delivery services and the whole convenience of it so I thought I would give Thistle a try. I tried it for about a month. Unfortunately I did end up canceling my subscription. The first week my order was not correct, so I received food that I wasn't able to eat which I wasted. There seemed to be a misconnect with the people who are packaging the orders because this happened 3 times during the month. The staff that answered the phone was happy to help and did credit my account so I wasn't charged for food I did not enjoy. Secondly, the food tasted great for about a week. It's super healthy but after about a week it starts to all taste the same. I had a hard time eating salads twice a day. Also I would have preferred more protein and less carbs. I also did get some juices too. Most of the juices I did enjoy. Except maybe one which was a turmeric and almond milk combo. The breakfast mostly were carb based and small which had me crashing a couple hours later. They also did not follow my instruction for drop off at my house. Overall as you can see there were too many negatives about this service so I had to cancel. They have a great concept, I hope they are able to improve and thrive. Competition is tough out here in Bay Area there are so many food prep services that do a great job. read more

I'm surprised to see so many low reviews. I've had several weeks of delivery with no problems, always on time, with all meals correct. The portions are generous, full of vegetables, and good variety. If you're looking for a convenient way to eat healthy, it's a great option. I appreciate that there's no delivery fee either. read more

Pros: Prompt and free delivery, nice packaging, easy orders, clearly labeled ingredients with most of them being organic and reasonably priced (depending on how you see it - more note on this later). After eating Thistle meals for 3 days now, I feel "healthier." Cons: My husband and I are relatively healthy eater, and we would like to think that we have flexible tastebuds. With that said, Thistle meals so far have been pretty challenging to stomach. The flavors are flat, and they lack texture. Most meals we've had so far are seasoned with uninteresting seasonings, and they frankly all taste similar. Moreover, most meals we have tried so far have some kind of goopy/mushy content (most of the time starch or sauce) that are mixed in with other ingredients. By the time they arrive at my doorstep, all the ingredients pretty much get all mixed together in the container, and we have pretty much been eating goops with sprinkles of greens that have become soggy. I get that whether I like certain flavors or kinds of foods is totally subjective. But I have decided that the way Thistle meals are prepared is not my cup of tea. I also find the appearance of the meals unappetizing. I get that it is really difficult to "plate" fully cooked food that pleases your eyes when it's packaged in a plastic container. But as I mentioned above, the goopy component of the meal ends up making everything else soggy, and the vegetable appears like they have lost freshness. Thistle claims that the ingredients are supposed to be of superior quality. However, I find this also not the case in my experience. For example, I received spinach salad with strawberries for lunch today. I got 3 slices of strawberries (slices, not each strawberry). Another breakfast came with peeled clementines that dried up (?). Lastly, am I supposed to eat every meal cold? It is unclear whether I should heat it up or not. But if I am supposed to eat them all cold, that is something I cannot sustain long term. Overall, I am not excited for the next Thistle meal knowing that they all taste similar, are not tasty, looks unappetizing and do not consistently have superior fresh ingredients. In fact, I struggle to finish each meal, and I usually have to supplement my meals with something else because I cannot finish Thistle meals. The price tag for Thistle may be one of the more reasonable ones among other healthy meal deliveries, but I am not sure if it's worth it if I am unable to finish Thistle meals and need to get supplemental side foods every time. I had really high hopes for Thistle, but I am saying good bye. read more

Had two orders coming this week- neither received! How am I supposed to try if they don't deliver? So disappointed. First order was confirmed delivered, but never came to my door. The picture confirmation was too close to tell where they left it. If at a neighbor's, they must have enjoyed! Second delivery they texted (6 times): "Oh no! It looks like your Thistle Co order couldn't be dropped off..." I cancelled my subscription after I didn't receive the first delivery, however was hoping to change my mind after receiving the second delivery. I almost feel like they don't believe me, however again I REALLY wanted this to work, as I love the idea and pricing is better than local grocery stores! I hope this doesn't happen to others. Other reviews looks great- best of luck!!! read more

Regrettably, I've stopped using Thistle. As if almost by magic, as soon as I reviewed I had several delivery issues (with strange customer service responses) and felt that the meals went downhill with the switch from mostly salads to stews (which were really water logged and separated). I've switched to other meal prep services that I feel are a better value. read more

I've been getting vegan meals from thistle for several months. I love the variety and interesting meals they provide. The only thing I don't enjoy are the stews, they end up being the same price as a lunch or dinner but aren't filling and consist of mostly broth. I've asked to switch the stews out for a lunch or breakfast item but they aren't able to; otherwise, I would give them 5 stars. read more

Pandemic healthy eating (after weeks of unhealthy pandemy eating)! I really enjoy the lite bites (4 salads and 4 soups + a treat or two). I end up doubling the recipe by adding more spinach/kale to the salad or broth to soup. Delicious and we're never hungry after. As to the price, I could spend the same on ingredients for soup and salad each week, but might not use the produce before it spoils. I do think the plastic is a concern. I know it's got the 1 on the bottom of the container (meaning the container can be recycled into new containers, pallet straps, paneling, carpet and clothing fibers, and fiberfill for soft furnishings and sleeping bags). I hope that's where it all goes . read more

I have been a Thistle customer for several months. Three lunch meals per week. I have now cancelled my service. - The meals were decent. Tasty - healthy - decently portioned. - All ingredients were not always listed - in a world of allergies, why this is so boggles the mind - onions in the meal where no onions are listed, etc. My largest disappointment was with their delivery service - it's inconsistent and after several missed deliveries - I am done with Thistle. I have had four mis-delivered orders to date. Unacceptable in my book. Customer service is always apologetic when issues occur, that doesn't fix the issues. read more

Week 1 down with Thistle, and I am pleased. I cook, but my mom and in-laws both live nearby, and both cook food for my family all the time. While this is definitely a great advantage, much of our own food at home goes to waste and (coming from Filipino families) it's difficult to control the type of food served to us at family gatherings. Not to mention I'm pregnant, so I am trying to eat as wholesome and nutritiously as possible. I've tried other food delivery services before but didn't like (1) having to prepare my food after paying a premium price and (2) not having organic ingredients... after paying a premium price. So I gave Thistle a try, subscribing to their vegan menu to better balance our omnivore diet at home. Here is what I like so far: 1. The food is organic and really fresh. One of the things that turned me on to Thistle was having healthy, organic, prepared meals sent to my home. At the grocery store, most of the produce I buy is usually organic. The trouble with produce is that it doesn't keep very long in the fridge and much of ours can go to waste easily. The food from Thistle lasted until the second delivery (granted, I tried to eat the fresh/raw meals first). 2. The ingredients are packed with nutrients, simple and wholesome. No preservatives. No guilt. 3. The meals go a really long way. Realistically, both plans are designed for one person. However, the meals are dense and hearty enough to split with my husband - since we always have other foods in our fridge (prepared by family and meals we prepare for our little boy). *Note, that while I can split with my husband - my husband can probably eat 3x the amount I eat. :) 4. The cost pays for itself. If I didn't have a Thistle subscription, I could easily spend a similar amount between the grocery store and eating on-the-go. Not to mention, the cost of my personal time cooking, cleaning up the kitchen and cleaning out our fridge. 5. At the end of the week, I still have food left over. Again, we still prepare food for our son and always bring home food from our parents who live nearby. So, our home has no shortage of things to eat. But at least with Thistle, I'm able to save some of my own cooking time and balance out our diets much better with an ever-revolving menu of fresh, organic vegan meals. read more

Hi-- I wouldn't give this a low rating due to the meals being amazing. But delivery issues are problematic. It seems the owner is active in reviewing these so hopefully I'll get a response. I might be in a slightly different situation. I manage this account for my father who is elderly, on restricted diet due to health issues, and is also currently apartment bound until we can get him rehabilitated. We do not live with each other and I'm trying to keep him as independent as possible given his challenges. So, these deliveries are actually more a necessity than a convenience. When delivery is skipped, it puts me in a situation where he might not eat until I can rush other meals to him. And he's reactive to the heavy restaurant foods. I don't want a credit--I need delivery from today's skipped delivery and definitely need next week's deliveries until I can establish a new service (which I hope I don't have to do). I'm having difficulty in regards to delivery and can't get anyone on the telephone. Hoping for a reply, thanks!! (side note: i have already been in email contact with thistle reps a few times but no resolution. i'm nervous about next week's deliveries.) read more
