In my several years living in this area, how have I not known this optometrist to exist?? I've been…read morehaving some issues with my contact lenses, and decided to find a non-commercial optometrist to take a look at them. I called and made an appointment with Dr. Gary Pence, who was actually very helpful and didn't push anything on me I didn't want or need. He made helpful recommendations for future contacts and helped me make an order for some new soft contacts lenses. He took the time during the fitting to teach me how to put them in and take them off, then made sure they fit properly, as well as ensure that these new contacts fix any of my prior problems. After my first appointment, Dr. Pence provided me with plenty of samples for 7 days supply of daily soft contact lenses. During my follow up, he made some adjustments before providing me with a few more samples to tide me over until my official 3 months order were delivered. I came back in a few days to pick up the order. My only complaint was how expensive my contacts were. I'm sure it cost way more than daily contact lenses I could find anywhere else. Even so, I decided if the contacts didn't work out, he would help me more with finding new lenses if I ordered through his office. Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience with Dr. Pence at Georgia Optometry Group. Dr. Pence is very experienced and has seen many situations, so is very good for when troubleshooting current problems. While it seems sketch because it's located in the Kroger shopping plaza, it's anything but shady - rather, I may prefer it to the fancy building optometrist offices.

Because of the transition to the new company, there was some doubt as to whether this would be covered. The current optician (unfortunately, I don't have her name) really went to bat for us. It took several weeks for resolution, but she called me to keep me up to date regarding status and kept the issue alive with her management. In the end, my daughter got a replacement frame. Wait in the next room... and staff is extremely rushed. The office visits when you finally see the doctor is generally now five minutes or less. Maybe if they didn't book so many patients in one day they would have time to actually think about you. Obviously, all about money.

When I mentioned it, the staff member responded, "I'll clean it off." My immediate thought was -- but when? That kind of oversight raises serious concerns about hygiene and professionalism. The overall environment is unpleasant, and the level of customer service is unacceptable. Furthermore, Ayman's behavior was unprofessional; interrupting and finishing my sentences while I was explaining my concern shows a clear lack of leadership and respect. We had a much different experience than than the experiences of previous reviewers which suggests they have resolved some of those issues. This is a very busy practice - always has been - and Dr Johnson and the staff are very capable of…read morehandling that volume - in fact, I do not recall ever having an appointment that was late - 01/14/2025, was no exception - i was seen for initial tests very quickly and on time - then i was sent back to the waiting room where i did sit for a bit longer than usual - and when in the exam room with Dr Johnson, we were interrupted on x3 separate occasions by the staff (again, highly unusual) HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED - there was an elderly patient who was in the middle of a potential medical emergency that Dr Johnson had discovered during the patient's visit - and Dr Johnson and the staff were doing whatever was needed to get the patient the treatment they needed - and the patient was not cooperating (due to costs i think) - so while they were trying to see me for my routine annual eye exam, they were serving the needs of a patient who was at risk and really did not understand it - and here is what was amazing to me - not only did they get the patient the care they needed, but they completed my exam, including ALL of the tests, and stayed until my visit with the optician (Aquiel - who is a whole other level of amazing on her own!) was complete - see, this was now after regular business hours - Dr Johnson and the staff continued to offer apologies for "my inconvenience" - which really was not much - this is a people centric practice (and they have updated their lineup of high end frames) - i highly recommend!

Dr Johnson is a very experienced optometrist and has a very nice bed side manor to examine your eyes. He incorporates high tech in the examination that eliminates the need for dilation but you can still get that if you prefer. Anyway. the whole process from paperwork,exam, etc. to picking out your frames is efficient and professional from the staff. Also, there is a wide selection of frames at different prices. I advise making an appointment ahead to save on wait time. I recommend Gwinnett Eye Clinic for eye exams in Gwinnett.
