A friend and I made a trip to upstate NYC, which could hardly be complete without apple cider donuts and cider in the autumn! We went to Thompson's Cider Mill last November given a high recommendation. They sold a variety of local goods, e.g. fresh apples, cider, baked goods, and hard cider tastings among other products. We washed down the fresh apple cider donuts with cold cider, and the moment was heavenly! The cider was refreshing without being overly sweet or acidic. The donuts were a perfect, slightly dense, but super moist cake that seemed to both crumble and melt in your mouth. We opted for the sugar dusted donuts, which were also not overly sweet, but had a nice textural contrast to the donut body. The donuts are also rather filling! The staff was friendly, and they gave us the impression of a well knit work family. We purchased a quart of cider, a dozen donuts, and quite a lot of apples from their variety for approximately $32, which we felt was overall a good deal. I believe the farm grounds go deeper and is open to the public (with activities for kids), but we could not explore further because we were already running late having had to make a detour because the address listed on Google was different from where the market was set up. During autumn, they open shop at a different main address to allow for more parking, and the entrance addresses may be inconsistent. Thompson's Cider Mill will reopen on October 19th They sell fresh apples and cider, local raw honey and a collection of their in house hard ciders that are exceptional. An artisanal blend of crisp natural flavor, burst of apple, semi-dry without the synthetic taste that store purchased cider have. Open weekends, we will return for the fall harvest next year. Keep in mind they taste hard cider, apple picking is not offered. It is similar to a wine tasting atmosphere, so I would not bring kids. read more

We were here in October afternoon. When we found the place, their location were closed but you can find their hard cider at the Sundial Farm which is only few minutes away. We bought a bottle of their cider and it was good. There were only few tables at Sundial Farm and the place were pretty busy when we were there. read more

My husband and I have always been big fans of the cider from Thompson's. We do a yearly trip around Halloween to the Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown area so we make sure to stop at Thompson's Cider Mill. The first time we visited was in 2019 and it was at the Cider Mill. All the times after that they had their cider and donuts at Fable Farms. We were excited this past weekend because they were selling their cider and donuts at the cute mill because of the rain. I was also excited to buy a hard cider or two since they only sell that at the Cider Mill. We met up with my brother and sister-in-law and their two boys. It was their first time at the mill. They purchased cider, donuts, and hard cider. I got the same. As we ate the donuts and drank some cider our kids were playing on a little grassy area near the mill. Some other kids came to join in and they were all having a grand old time. Well, I guess they were having too much fun because the owner came up to my brother in law and said we had to leave. I overheard him say something about parking. I was floored! I couldn't believe this cute place we hyped up to them just kicked us all out. I was so embarrassed. I could totally understand if he asked us to leave nicely because there were no spots (it is a small area) and people were waiting, but that wasn't the case. There were open spots and not a car in sight. After reading reviews here and elsewhere online, apparently this is the owner's MO. If he's had enough of you, off you must go. I also assume that's why they sell their donuts and cider at the farm, so the owner doesn't have to deal with his customers. If you do end up going to Thompson's Cider Mill and you have children, make sure they don't act like kids, otherwise you'll be kicked out after spending $60+ there. read more

We decided after a hike at Tea Town Lake Reservation around the corner to take a walk down the street when we saw the sign for the Cider Mill (less than a mile away)-we weren't sure what to expect or even if it would be open. Upon walking up the driveway the owner Jeff happened to be outside with his dog and opened up the small barn door for us even though I don't believe they were actually "open". It was such a nice and unexpected surprise! He could not have been nicer and more accommodating-he gave us an on the spot tasting of his entire repertoire of hard ciders which was over eight different types. He also talked to us about the process of producing the hard cider, a little history of the Cider Mill and I ended up buying a bottle to take home since it was so delicious. Each hard cider we tasted was delicious and I could see drinking these on a regular basis. I look forward to going back again one during the "season" and perhaps buying some more! I am also looking forward to getting some of the cider on tap at various locations across Westchester where it is currently being served. Anyone who is in the area it is absolutely worth a stop to this small and very charming Cider Mill-I believe the bottles are $25 each and the tasting was super fun! read more

This place was very underwhelming. I came here on a Saturday in the middle of the day. It was pretty busy and there were kids running everywhere. The parking lot is super small. If there are more than a few cars here, it could get very difficult to get into/out of the driveway. You can't go into the orchards at all. This was disappointing because you can literally only go into the barn here. There weren't many people working and there were lots of people here when I was here. They seem to be very under staffed. I wouldn't come back here because this wasn't a pleasant experience at all. I'd rather go to a more spacious orchard where I can relax and enjoy my time. read more

I wrote a nice review for this place and its cider three years ago, and finally made it back last weekend. I have no idea what happened to their cider since my last visit, but this time 'round it didn't taste, smell, or age well whatsoever. From my first glass, it wasn't nearly as tasty and didn't smell as fresh, and within only three days of opening it, my cider somehow developed carbonation and acidity...so I had to pour out the rest of it. Considering how isolated this place is, this was not only a waste of money (it's overpriced), but also a waste of time. They need to do a better job quality control-wise, going forward. Thompson's Cider Mill might not offer pick-your-own apples, but the adorable building still makes for a lovely day in the country. After following some signs down a windy road, you will find a gated entrance to the mill. You drive up a hill and past a beautiful home to find the red building at the top of the driveway. Behind the mill are rows of apple trees to stroll through, though there were few pieces of fruit actually left on the branches when we visited mid-way through October. The shop focuses on selling full-sized items, but allows patrons to sample mulled cider, chilled cider, and even their vast array of apples. However, purchases are limited to bottles of juice and barrels of apples. Pastries, such as cider donuts and apple-pumpkin muffins, are also for sale...exclusively. Both the cold and hot ciders were delicious, but the warm one had been infused with spices, making it extra soothing and seasonal. Both were made right in the mill earlier that day. I also simply loved the option to slice into the apples, as they had close to 20 varieties, many of which I had never heard of. Sampling helped us decide which types to buy. My only issue was that the owner tried to encourage us to pick half-sliced apples from the bins and cut into those versus starting new apples. I understand not wanting to waste food, but I was also not very enthusiastic about eating an apple someone else had touched and that was browning from the open air. Regardless, Thompson's Cider Mill offers a colonial view into juice pressing and makes for a quaint afternoon stop. read more

We have been coming here for many years. The reason we keep coming back is because you get real apple cider with nothing else added, and you can see it made. Yes, the parking is limited, and yes, there are times you have to wait, but Jeff is always accommodating, and will usually spend a few minutes with you if not pressed. He is now also selling hard cider in four different varieties, all of which are great. Well worth the trip and effort. read more

Apple, cider, & cider donut junkies rejoice! I've tried the cider from every apple orchard within a 50 mile radius. This is by far the best. It's pressed the day you buy it - and if you're lucky, right in front of you. There's no pick-your-own apples here, and I kinda like that. Keeps the massive droves of people away (*cough* Barton's & Harvest Moon - what friggin' madhouses!! You can keep your bouncy castles!) There are a variety of apples for sale & you can sample any before you buy. Their cider donuts are worth the trip as well. Buy a half dozen and enjoy a nice fall hike at Teatown around the corner. But trust me - you want to stock your fridge (& freezer like me cause I need this nectar in my life year round!) with this delectable cider. read more

My friend and I were visiting Croton-on-Hudson for the nearby Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor and we decided to check out Thompson's Cider Mill to help fill the time while we waited for our ticket entry time. While this cider mill doesn't have pick-your-own apples, it's definitely still worth a trip up if you're in the area. Sadly, we missed the official cider making demonstration as we came on a different day, but the pressing still seemed to be going on when we visited. The barn that was open seemed a bit small, but they offer an incredible number of varieties, including several neither of us had heard of before. We split a basket of apples and each ordered some cider donuts and cider. The cider donuts were incredibly soft and rich, a far cry from some of the unsatisfying, drier versions I've had at the farmer's market before. The cider donuts here are exactly as I had always imagined them to be. The cider itself is by far the best cider I've ever had. The freshness and variety in the apples really shows in the complexity of the flavor. Best of all, they offer samples of cider as well as knives for visitors to go around with and cut off a piece of each apple variety. Extra plus was the adorable dog I played with while we waited for our taxi to arrive. read more

We used to come here maybe 5 years ago And it was great. Just visited and how they've changed! Blinn Rd stand by their apple orchard and press now only has hard cider for purchase. To purchase apples or cider, you have to go to Fable Farm on Kitchawan Rd. There should be a sign at turn in to Bliss Rd to tell you this. Small cider mill donuts are a pricey $9 for 6 which they put in a brown paper bag (no boxes no matter how many you buy) - supposedly the best in Westchester County but not! Cider is $9 a half gallon. No tea, no coffee. There is only a porta potty for bathroom. There are animals (chickens, goats, cows) but they are behind an electrified fence (watch out, kids!). Don't know why they don't have all products at both stands. Not worth the trip. read more

A cider house that sits atop a hill is a perfect reminder of why we don't live in the city. Thompson's is the type of place that makes you want to quit your day job and start growing apples in your backyard. Freshly baked goods and warm apple cider make for a perfect fall afternoon. I pulled up the driveway looking for a decent cider. I left wondering whether or not the seeds in the apples I bought would take root in my girlfriend's parent's backyard. It's a small cider mill behind the owner's house. Don't get me wrong, it's charming in the back of someone's house kind of way, but I was expecting something like a real farm with more than six parking spaces in a driveway. The apple cider is good, the hard cider is ok, the apple wine was nice. The apple donuts are small and like any other (actually had some better at Yorktown Grange Fair from a vendor I forget the name). The apple pies are not made there. They buy it from a local bakery, which when asked, they don't remember the name of the bakery (how is that possible when they sell like 8 things). But either way, it wasn't good sadly. The Pie Lady at Chappaqua Farmers market is so far better than most. It's a cute place, but not what I expected. For their Cider Fest, it wasn't very "fest" like. Not even a Spotify for music. Just a small barn with room for 8 people and a register. Go for the cider, but that's it. read more

I love coming to this place based on the beautiful surrounding scenery and quality cider. However, I think that yesterday was my last visit. As soon as we entered the barn, I hear the owner angrily telling a customer that he can't talk because he's too busy and he scampers off somewhere. Then, even worse, my wife pours herself a sample of the apple wine and he proceeds to scold her, saying only staff members can divvy this out. Way to make us feel welcome! There are no signs saying as such and the bottle was sitting on a table next to a jug of cider that everyone is sampling. When you go to a place such as this, you expect a relaxing day in the country, not to walk around with kid gloves hoping you don't upset the owner. Very soup nazi-like.This guy is just far too uptight. You need to just calm down, man. I get that you put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into your business and I respect that but if you if have to be that uptight and treat your customers this way, then pack it up and enter a business where you do not have to interact with people. It's sad because I really like some things about the cider mill but I can't let someone get away with this type of behavior. What elevates this type of business to the next level is a quality product and stellar customer service. The latter is obviously lacking here which is disappointing. read more
