I recently moved to Upland from Northern CA and was looking for a good spot for mechanic work. I was glad to find Orr Automotive. I have brought both my Dodge Durango and my wife's Toyota Yaris for oil changes and some diagnostics. Ken had great customer service! He gave us an estimate for the time it would take for each oil change and the price, and both were right on. The real reason I'm writing today is another experience we had recently. I had a family member visit from Northern CA, while they were here they managed to blow their engine in their Ford Expedition!!! Obviously we were in a panic. I called Orr right away for an estimate. I spoke with Nate, he was professional and very courteous. He was able to put us at ease regarding our engine blunder. He quoted us a price and estimated how long the process would take. We had five days total before my relative needed to head back home. I called several other mechanics locally and no one was able to beat the price Nate had quoted me. In four days my relative had their vehicle back and was able to make it home safely. We would like to say thank you to everyone at Orr Automotive for making what could have been a very stressful situation into a smooth transition. I have a unique experience today I never had entire life. I went to check my transmission fluid leaking second opinion because my last routine oil check, I was told that there may be possible transmission oil leak and may need replacement of gasket. I went to Orr Automotive for second opinion and I knew Mr Orr before and lt has been several years. I noticed that there are different guys this time. I asked what papered to Mr Orr and they told me He is working part time only. Anyway they told me that I have to leave my car at the shop and they will provide shuttle service to my home. It was around 10:00 am. I did not hear anything by 1:00pm . I called them and asked that they checked my car. He told me that he called my home phone and I already gave them permit to repair my car. I told him that I never got phone call from him and I have been home ever since they gave ride. I asked what they are going to repair and he told me that they found oil leak on transmission, water tank and engine oil costing me $955.00. I protested that I did not receive phone call regarding this and absolutely I did not give them repair permission. They keep telling me and threatening to hang up phone. I realized that they are so rude so I decided to go their shop. I went to there and I saw my car. I asked what they did anything so far? They said that they did not do anything yet. I told them again that I will pay their diagnostic job and I do not repair my car in their shop and wants to take home. They keep repeating that they got repair permit through phone on my home phone. I told them that I am the owner And I never gave them permit to repair my car and never talked to him regarding this. Because they are so sure through phone conversation before, I already check with my phone company that they did not make phone call to my home before I return to their office. I bagged to take my car so I can take my car home. They told me that since my car is in their property, it is entirely up to them and it may take 2-3 weeks. I finely told them that I may have to talk to my lawyer and they become really nasty and two owner? Keep talking that once my car is their promise, it is law that it is entire on their decision that when I can take my car back. At this point, there is no sense to talk to them anymore and I went to my lawyer's office to discuss this matter. My lawyer was not in office and I talk to office clerk to arrange to meet my lawyer. When I drove back home, I got phone call that they made mistake that they talk completely different person with different car and different phone. I am not sure why they found it now. I asked phone number they called and name of person they spoke when I was their office. They insisted that time that they were acting like their phone in front me at that time and told me my house phone number and my first name they called. When I got their office, he handed me my key without any apology or explanations I found that old owner mr Orr is not owner anymore. What a experience and my BP went up probably double. So i went to the subaru dealer to get my oil changed, only because I had a coupon, and they told me I needed new brake pads and new struts. They quoted me an astronomical number, so I decided to get a quote from another shop. My friend referred me to Orr and I could not be more thankful. Orr told me I still had about 50% life left on my brake pads. They quoted me a price that was half as much as the dealer would have charged me for my struts, and this price was for upgraded struts! Overall I'm very happy to have found a trustworthy shop, it's so hard to find today. Once the work on my car commenced I had no way of getting home, so they drove me home! I can't even begin to explain my frustration with Orr Automotive. (Who ever answers the phone in the morning is rude. Nate is helpful, kind of?)I took my car in for a check engine light/ac/heater and a few minor checks. I was quoted a day for everything to be good. A week later, finally got my car back. Not even 2 days later the check engine light was back on and my A/C unit was broke again . Took it in, they payed for a rental. Maybe 4 hours later I got a call saying it was ready, came back to ONLY my heater working. Waited about 45 minutes and the had to put me in another rental. 2 weeks went by without a single word of contact before it was finally finished. My car was finally fixed. Not long after, I realized none of my break lights worked (all 3) called them, and they didn't remember the exact case or what they did. Found out they didn't put the fuse back. Ended up just going to store and watched a YouTube video on how to replace it myself. Never will I ever do business with Orr Automotive again. Save your time and money.... read more

I was in a desperate situation so their ability to take care of my daughters car in short order was very much appreciated as it was Friday and she needed her car to be able to return to the Bay Area by Sunday afternoon. This review is for all the auto shop skeptics. I've been burnt by shops all over the country - some overcharge, some are dishonest, some do a half-ass job, and some even tamper with parts so you have to pay for them (happened to me ). Then, Yelp led me to Orr Automotive. I just bought a used Jeep and it broke down on the side of the highway... the tow truck brough it to Orr. Orr later called me and said the fuel gage was off, so it simply ran out of gas. I was relieved, and they only charged me a discounted diagnostic fee... They even filled the car up a bit for free. I was ready to spend the money to fix something big if I had to, and they were honest from the beginning and saved me some dough. Next, I brought in my 2005 Honda Civic to get a full 100K mile tune up. A guy named John helped me, and took care of everything I needed in a timely manner. He got me an amazing deal on a new & freshly painted bumper, and he even detailed the car once I showed up to pick it up. He went above and beyond! Once you work in customer service you expect the best out of people because you do the best for your customers. With that said. I'm not an easy customer. I went here after being given a very costly quote from VW. I will say that I was happy with the service given its very hard to trust any mechanic as a female. Give them a chance. I've been here twice now and I'm very pleased with the service. I'm the stereotypical girl who doesn't know anything about cars. But, that doesn't mean I'm stupid. I think the mechanics here are awesome. If you show genuine interest they will explain what they are doing so that you are informed. I relied on the 5 star reviews to find this place and I haven't been let down. Like many others stated, I am very pleased with how I was treated and updated on the needed repairs. My car's oil pressure was low and the maintenance light AND check engine light were on and of course, not knowing what those mean, I was a bit worried about my car. They explained the work to me and even gave me a discount since it was close to $1,000. I'm not sure why other people have had bad experiences here but I can't speak for them. As a girl who knows very little about cars (I would need to google how to jump start my car) I appreciate that I can rely on them to take care of my car and explain things so that I do understand how engines/cars, etc. work. Came in with my car making a loud clicking noise when I turned it on. Of course the noise stopped when I got there. After waiting and inspecting the car they said that they were not going to charge me for their time. I forgot to do this almost over a year ago but I have to say that I have alway been skeptical on mechanics but Nate and the guys have alway treat me so well and they developed a great relationship here. I had my car worked on today and they helped me out with the pricing and the best part is they took me to work and picked me up. Never heard of a mechanic doing this. I have been meaning to write this review for some time. I took my Lexus IS for its routine service there. They marked all the components they checked obviously it included tire inspection. About 3 months after the service I saw my tire pressure light was on took it to tire shop where it turns out both the front tires were completely worn out to a point the wires were visible and they were about to burst anytime. I can't believe it wasn't picked up when I took my car to them for scheduled maintenance. I got new tires for the car and decided never to come back here for any further scheduled maintenance. I feel they may be good people and my experience with them customer service wise was not terrible but I felt possibly due to their negligence for not checking my car tires, as they claimed they did, I could have had a disastrous outcome for me and my family. I received a message today by owner Nathan threatening me a legal recourse if I don't take this review down but the fact of the matter is I wasn't happy with their service and in my opinion they deserve the poor review and rating I have given them. A friend had recommended this place to me since he had just come here a few weeks before. Just came to get an oil change the other day and was told I needed some extra work done on my car, which is what other places usually tell me and pressure me to get work done on the spot. Luckily, this place is not like the rest. I didn't feel pressured to get work done, but was informed that it was highly recommended to avoid future major problems. Absolutely amazing service!!! I called and spoke to John, been told that I need shocks on my Camry by two different places. I needed a shop that is open on the weekends so I decided to call Orr Automotive due to the 5 star review on Yelp. John gave me prices right away and his suggestions, then proceeded to call me within an hour and says he would like to check out my car because thinking my problem might now have to do with the shocks. Took car down there...within a few minutes was told my shocks were fine...wear and tear on not so old tires (shaking at 45 mph) was caused by a right front axle that was bent. WOW finally honesty! LOL I thought was going to be outrageous but cheaper to fix that then get the shocks! Plus rotated and balanced tires to get me a few more months in so I can save for new tires. I have definately found my mechanic (being I am a woman) and will go back for my tune-up in which I have already gotten a quote. The place is really clean and they have a Keurig! Great coffee while you wait. Highly recommended and will tell all family and friends. read more

Started off by having some suspension work done on my girlfriend's car after a pretty big accident and was more than pleased with both the work and ease of handling the whole process. Nate helped us out from the moment we called to making accommodations for picking up and dropping off our vehicle. Since fixing my lady's vehicle went so well when it was time for me to my Tc serviced where to go. It's pretty great to find somewhere that meets all of your service needs. Not only are they masters under the hood but they sell tires at great prices too! I treated it to 4 new tires, brakes and an oil change. I suggested paying to have the rotors replaced and they told me it'd be unnecessary at that time. Imagine that!! Doing business with people who respect more than just the dollar!! Just before I was about to drive through the desert (in July) alone with my four kids from California to Tucson, my van broke down. I took it to Orr, and not only did they spend extra quality time making sure everything was in proper working condition, but their customer service was phenomenal! They were very friendly and made us feel comfortable by turning on a kid movie while we waited. They were very thorough with the repairs and it's been 3 months and my van is running great! And when we went to leave, they loaded up my van with waters just Incase my van had any mechanical problems in the middle of the desert (which it didn't). Today the owner of Orr, Nathan, gave me a call. He had read the review I posted, remembered my situation (and even where I told them I was headed camping after stopping by their place), and gave me a sincere apology for my experience. In my previous review I had had absolutely no complaints about the work that was done to my car -- they had fixed everything I asked them to and did it quite quickly-- but I had some complaints about the other parts of my experience. After telling him why I had felt a bit hoodwinked, he explained why there had been some confusion and broke down their pricing and discounting for me, but expressed that he understands why I felt that way. After hearing his explanation, I really do believe he was trying to find a way to give me the best price he could. In my specific case, there were a few discounts (including the yelp discount) that were initially applied although in the fine print of the yelp discount it says you can't use it with other discounts. He also expressed sympathy over the fact that I couldn't legally drive my car off the lot (i could have it towed if I wanted to) due to California laws concerning brake caliper damage. What was clear from my talk with Nathan is that he wasn't just looking to get a review changed (he didn't even suggest that I do so -- I told him at the end of our talk that I was going to), he was really looking to get input about how to make his business better in order to serve the customer better. I told him about how I had called his shop about the 2nd set of repairs and gotten a much higher estimate than the other places I called, and he explained the reasoning behind this -- a commitment to better quality parts (which inevitably cost more) as well as a commitment to pay his employees fair and commensurate salaries as well as provide them benefits. He also offers a 24,000 mile/2 year NATIONWIDE warranty on his labor -- something I was not told when I got the estimate and something few (if any) other shops in the area offer. Part of the reason he does this is because he acknowledges that many students from the Claremont Colleges (of which I am one) are only here for 4 years and then they and their cars are in different parts of the country. This is just another mark among many during our call that he really thinks about his customer and what's best for them, rather than what may be easier for him. In my case, my car isn't going to last much longer, so I would rather have the cheaper parts and no warranty. He was understanding of this situation and explained that they always offer to match prices when possible, and when it's not, will always try to work something out that works for the customer and realizes that in some cases the customer might rather have the cheaper price than the better parts and the warranty. At the end of the call he told me that he really tries to build a relationship with his customers and wants them to feel that they can count on him when it comes to car trouble. He even told me that I should feel free to call him anytime to ask anything about my car or get a second opinion on an estimate. I really feel that for someone to take time out of their day to personally call a customer shows and extreme dedication to their company being the best it can be. It would have been easy for him to brush off my review as it's the only one below a 4 and Orr still has a 5 star rating. But he didn't. Not only did he apologize (which would have been impressive in itself) , but he took the additional time to really listen to me and then run by possible solutions. Now, I think I should be the one apologizing for jumping to conclusions about Nathan and Orr. He's clearly a stand-up guy trying to do what's best for both his customers and his employees. I highly recommend that you give Orr a call if you're having car trouble and if you get lower prices from somewhere else, I'm sure Nathan would do his best to match it and explain the reason for the difference. read more

It pains me to write this because I like to get my oil changed here but I had a not so great experience. Last Tuesday, I called and made an appointment for an oil change for Friday at 8:00 AM. I was so excited that they were going to be open. Well, when I arrived, there was no appointment. Whomever I spoke to did not write the appointment down and they were booked solid. They offered to take me in but it would be a "few hours" because they were booked solid. They even offered me a ride. However, I felt like I wasted my time calling to set an appointment. Moral of the story (but not that it will do anything): Get the name of the person you made an appointment with. read more

It was my first time. I checked in and got $10 off my oil change. They have three options. I got the basic oil change and it came out to $24. Great deal, great service. Needed all 4 struts replaced on my Corolla, called all of the top rated automotive repair centers in my area and these guys gave the best price. They did a free diagnostic and found that indeed the struts needed to be replaced. They also said that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. Did some research on what they were talking about and it was legit so I went with it. The customer service here was excellent and they were very willing to help me fix my problem. They even drove me to and from my house when the car was being repaired. Overall, best customer service at the best price. Would definitely go again and recommend to a friend. read more
