Loved the coffee, it was a perfect pregame to the hike to Waimea falls and the botanical garden. We got the matcha and Ube latte which was a refreshing wake up call. The staff were really nice and the drinks were out within 10 minutes. The specialty drinks were really interesting.

Pleasantly surprised on the quality of the food within this "touristy" spot. We got the shoyu chicken and the veggie burger with fries. The fries were perfectlyyy crispy. Everything was yummy! Service was great as well!

Burger combo (they forgot the fries; got it after informing them of mistake). Salty burger. Good with beer.

Not bad! Really surprised that they had simple spam musubi to a gourmet beet salad that was reasonably priced for the amount. I would eat that refreshing beet salad again! Also, the bar right next to it is typical $8 per beer to $12-16 mixed drinks for those that need the cool down after the long trek back. Shared a beef burger with zuchinni. Didnʻt expect the zuchinni to be deep fried battered zuchinni. Thought would be grilled so that was disappointing and the patty was salty. Washed it down with beer which made it delish. Ahi fish burger is tasty! Chicken plate- meh. Loved the kope cafe on right.

I was expecting meh food but it was quite good. The chicken and fries were tasty and went quickly. Also appreciated that they had an unsweetened tea option for drinks. Tad slow service but I am on island time so all good.

We grabbed some food here on the way out after walking through to Waimea Falls. It smelled so good and the hurricane fries caught my eye. They have plenty of seating but we took it to-go instead. There was a sign on the window to request any utensils or bags. When our food was ready, I asked if we could get a bag since I didn't want anything to spill during our drive and he just said he couldn't give us a bag. No idea why, or maybe they were out of bags, but I thought it was an odd response. Hurricane fries were delicious! The actual fries were cooked nicely and I loved the sauce on top with the furikake. If only they had the option to add meat, it would be a perfect meal. We also ordered the garlic shrimp plate. It was a bit light in flavor and not enough garlic but adding the spicy sambal sauce was good. I even used some of the sauce for the fries. The menu said it came with pickled veggies but it was just a regular tossed salad.

We stopped here to use the restroom and grab some hot beverages before continuing our drive around the island. It was a rainy, chilly day in Hawaii so hot coffee and tea sounded perfect. Hale Kope caught our eye, particularly their cardamom lavender syrup. I chose black tea with the cardamom syrup and my mom had a coffee. The syrup was so good and flavorful. We both enjoyed our drinks. They had great flavor and were served at a good temperature. Plus there was no line when we arrived and the employees are friendly. It was quick, easy, and affordable to grab warm up with a delicious beverage. We recommend this establishment to others!

No trip to Oahu's north shore feels complete without a stop at Matsumoto Shave Ice. The line may be…read morelong, but they are incredibly efficient, and it moves much faster than you'd expect. One thing I really appreciate is the variety of Japanese-inspired syrups you won't find at other shave ice shops. I went with flavors like Kyoho grape, yuzu and ume, which were refreshing and vibrant. They tasted much more natural than the typical artificial syrups. I added Japanese mochi as a topping, which is the perfect complement to the fluffy shave ice. The ice itself is light and fine, soaking up all the syrup without becoming icy or crunchy. Can't wait for my next visit.

I tried Matsumoto's once during an afternoon when the line was out the door, but the line moved…read morequickly. I went with a small for $3.75 (an affordable price in Hawaii!) with Blue Pineapple, Ume, and the limited time POG, and no toppings, as I prefer to enjoy shave ice as is. Though I liked the price and ice texture, the overall shave ice left much to be desired. I still enjoyed eating it, but I don't believe it would've tasted better to me if it had a snow cap or other toppings. Shave ice should be yummy on its own, without any additons. Matsumoto's has an extensive list of flavors. I don't know much about the syrups they use, but I noticed that these flavors didn't really pop out as much as those from other shops. I thought that pineapple, plum, and passionfruit-orange-guava would be distinct from each other, but they kinda had the same level of syrupy sweetness. Ume was the only one that had a hint of tartness, which I appreciated, but it was overwhelmed by the generally sugary, juice-like flavors. Ice texture was like an elevated snow cone. It was slightly crunchy yet still smooth, melting and combining easily with the syrups. They give you a spoon and a straw. Service was ok. The person at the front takes your order, then you keep walking in to pay at the counter, then you keep walking down towards the end of that counter to pick up your order. Staff weren't as chipper as I thought they'd be - they were simply going through the motions, fitting for what looks like an assembly line of making shave ice. There's lots of merch inside, from snacks to shirts to tote bags. Seating is only available outdoors, but there are plenty of benches and tables in the little quad there.

We happened in to HI Pie and were surprised to discover such a hidden gem. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was $13 (reasonably priced for a handmade fresh mini pie). Sorry babe, we don't share HI-Pie Pineapple Cream Pie no more. I recommend anyone trying it get your own. The Pot Pie was easily the best Pot Pie we've ever had - seasoned perfectly, creamy, and the crust was flakey on the outside with a little heart cutout on top making it enjoyable for our toddler to eat.
