Admittedly I first went in for a hair color at Thrive because it was a convenient salon for me to get to, and the reviews looked promising. I was able to find availability and book an appointment online, so even better. Now several trips later, I am so grateful I found Devin! She is an amazing stylist and does such a phenomenal job. I'm extremely appreciative when the stylist really listens to the client requests and executes flawlessly. One star is generous. Im going to make this brief. TLDR: I was over charged 90$ by Angie a JUNIOR STYLIST. I usually have a stylist back home, but the recent weather forced me to go here. I requested a bleach and tone (150$) with Angie, a JUNIOR STYLIST, unsure if that was the service that my hair needed. I go to my appointment early so i could have a mini consultation. Upon arrival i find out the service that i want is a full highlight. I think nothing of it, ive been getting my hair done for a while so I know services are priced differently. My appointment began at 4 pm. I did not leave until 11:00 pm. Im not sure if that is typical for Angie but back home im in and out for the salon in 4 ish hours. The appointment it self was okay minus the too comfortable personal life details Angie was telling me. Mid appointment I realize she has never told me the price for the new service I am getting (full highlight based off consultation), so i ask her and she tells me she will get back to me. An hour or two goes by and she comes back to tell me the service will be $300! $300 for a senior stylist I understand. But for a junior stylist service?! And when I said that her prices online where different she laughed in my face and walked away, which left me having a nervous breakdown. I asked for a junior stylist because I am a college student and my budget is tight and I like to have my hair done to make me feel nice. I didn't question it because hairstylist prices are usually firm. However, today, i got email saying Angies prices have been increased. I decide to take a peek. I have been seeing the stylists at Thrive since before they even started this collective together. It was so lucky that when I first moved to Chicago I found such great people to help me look my best! Megan does the best highlights - she really takes her time and you feel like you're getting the best possible experience. She also knows how to do small tweaks throughout different seasons and over the years to keep you looking fresh, but still like yourself. I've also seen every other stylist as well for cuts (Taylor and Devin) and also for Hot Heads hair extensions (Natalie), which I can highly recommend for special events! They all are very busy so you do have to make sure to book well ahead of time, but that just shows how good they are! Why do I have a conscience? I want to keep them my little secret so I can always get an immediate appt. But they are so awesome and it is my Yelp duty to let everyone know of their collective awesomeness. They are the top 3 award winning stylists from the now closed Red 7. Yep - it's team Megan, Natalie & Taylor. They opened up shop in the cutest loft space in a brand new building in the west loop. Megan was the lead color educator at Red 7 & she has mad coloring skills. One of my pet peeves (of which there are many) is when the person doing your foils doesn't make them tight & you just got your hair done & there are already roots grrrrrrrrr. Megan does them tight and really takes her time. She also creates a natural look which I love because I hate chunky highlights. You might love them but I don't - we can still be friends though. She is a hair wizard. Natalie does both cut & color. I haven't had the pleasure of getting color from her but she is amazing at cuts. She gets thin fine hair and does an amazing job it getting it that lil extra oomph for every bit of volume. Not many stylists can do that. Sure your hair looks great after a professional blowout, hows it look the next day? Usually its back to its sad flat self. I always feel a Natalie cut looks almost as good when I style it and it holds its shape for several weeks. I've never had a cut by Taylor but I'm sure he's amazing as I know he was one of the top stylists. read more

The team that started Thrive were the heavy hitters at Red Seven, aka the VIP's/most requested stylists and colorists within the shop. Bottom line, this crew is legit. They are cool, nice and incredible people to boot, and truly passionate about their craft. I have crazy curly hair and Natalie cuts it perfect. Every.Single.Time. I've been going to her for 7+ years and she continues to deliver. I've been seeing Natalie for over 6 years for cut and color. When I can't get in with Natalie for color, Megan is my go to gal. Both of them are brilliant with color and Natalie's cuts are flawless. Then I found Natalie and Megan and haven't looked back since. They are both exceptionally talented. I've loved my hair ever since I met them. Not only are they great at what they do, they're also genuinely great people. Both Natalie and Megan are completely down to earth and fun. I've been going to Thrive Hair Collective and Natalie has been my hairstylist for almost a year now and she is amazing! The salon is modern, clean and a super cute space in the West Loop. Natalie is very busy but she always makes you feel like you're her most important client. She really listens to everything you ask for and gives great suggestions especially as far as color and style. She is a very talented colorist which is not easy to find in just one stylist. And she is a master at hair extensions, which after experiencing mediocre results at other salons I greatly appreciate. As another reviewer mentioned, I'm able to style my hair almost as well as she does in between appointments which is so nice to finally be able to achieve. My hair is fine and used to fall flat, but with Natalie's help my hair has never looked better. The salon pricing is very reasonable, especially for Chicago, and she even offers touch-ups in between regular services if needed. I will never trust anyone but Natalie again with my hair! She's also a great person, both with people and animals, volunteering her time at a local animal shelter. read more
