Upon arriving we were greeted right away, the owner is so nice! She checked us in and her boyfriend showed us a tutorial on how to throw the axes. We played several challenges and games. I was nervous at first but everyone was so encouraging! We came at 4:00pm on a Friday and we had the whole place to ourselves! I posted videos and photos on my instagram encouraging all of my other friends to try axe throwing out! Hands down best customer service, and best experience ever! Booked on their website which took less than 5 mins. Arrived 45 minutes early and the owner said she would try to get us a lane right away. We waited 10 mins and she made it happen. My friends and I have been to a few axe throwing places before and they're all very similar, but this one stands out amongst the rest. They're super friendly, and great at teaching the new comers. We didn't have to waIt long for a lane to open up and were taken pretty much right away. When we first arrived we were waiting for the rest of our group to get there, so in the mean time we played on all their arcade games in the mean time. Idk if staff/owners where just having an off day. I know the current homeless encampment at SD convention center is really ruining such a great downtown. Which is affecting the safety of businesses just as much as gaslamp visitors. I was super stoked to throw axes for 1st time. There's a few different similar businesses but I chose this one based on reviews & drove 20min to Throw It!. It was actually my Cancer Anniversary and i kinda regretted going there as part of celebration. The vibe inside killed my excited vibes. Im an outgoing person and felt like I was inconveniencing them by being there. The dog especially put me on edge. Definitely could use training if going to be around public or that could be a liability waiting to happen. Added to that was the lack of their ability to maintain doggy-parental control. I thought he was going to jump over counter a few times. With the cities current terrible control over homeless they sheltered in prime location of SD. I understand dogs needed as a guard. Popped down to Throw It on Thursday with a friend. Upon entering, it's slightly intimidating being around so many people holding and throwing their weapons, but the employees there were all so sweet and have their adorable boston terrier behind the desk ready to greet you and make you feel comfortable. unfortunately i don't remember the name of my instructor (Gage or cameron..??) but he was a very handsome and sweet boy that had seen me feeling defeated numerous times from the lack of sticking a single axe, each time he had noticed he quickly ran to our aid to give some throwing tips, which very much helped! I also had the pleasure of meeting one of the store owners, even with a broken arm she was killing it with her advice and really took the time to help us follow through with our throws. definitely will be coming back as this is not only fun, but a wonderful stress reliever! 100% recommend this place to anyone who wants to try a new activity and get a nice core workout lol read more

Girlfriend was very hesitant to try it while on an anniversary trip. It was within walking distance of downtown and something I've always wanted to try so one night I just said "I have a surprise" and took her there. She loved it. Neither of us were great but something about throwing large pieces of steel at wood is beyond exciting. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We had no idea that this place is closer to our favorite burger/bar place called Bubs, we are so happy to know that "Throw it" also give 15% off discount to first responder, military, and law enforcement. David is a very cool guy, he encourages me to throw and coaching on how to hit the target. Realizing it was Pride, we knew we couldn't compete with the crowds heading to the area, and would not find parking (they don't have parking-- street parking only). My friend and I were doing a 1 day trip to SD and wanted to do something a little different than eat and drink. An actual activity, since I knew we were going to eat all day! I looked up things to do and came across Throw it. They had good reviews and pictures and it was in Gaslamp area so decided to stop by. We did not make reservations as it was just us two, but saw on their website that walk-ins were welcome. And being a Tuesday, glad to see it was not busy. In fact it was just us! The lady at the front (part owner) was very friendly and welcoming. She mention the rules, guidelines and helped us through the process. We signed a waiver, because let's be real, its freaking axes! I like that she was honest when we asked her if any accidents happened, to which she did say 2. It was scary, which made me hesitant to follow through, but she kept me at ease. As long as you listen to their instructions you will be fine. They have different price listings for the amount of people. For 1-5 people it's $30 for 1 hour. I believe it was one person per lane. But because we were the only ones not sure if they let us use 2 lanes. We were taken up the stairs, and the guy (other part owner) showed us the 3 ways to throw the axes, as well as the 3 different size and types of axes. They both knew what they were doing and helped us step by step. It was a bit overwhelming at first, and took some times to get used to it and the skill form of it. The lady informed me that because guys do have more upper body strength, she showed me a tip to use my legs for a little bounce to help with the throwing. It was mostly all about the timing of releasing the axe. I got in a few bulls eye but a lot of it was a hit or miss. Overall great experience, service and prices. They have several games in the lobby area, if you are waiting around for you turn. As well as games in the axe throwing. She played some music for us, which was nice and offered some water. Who would've thought throwing axes would be so fun? Definitely not me. I found this place when search for date night ideas in SD. I am so glad we came down and tried it. The owners were really friendly and had openings for us even though we did not make a reservation. They explained everything from how to throw an axe, axe games we could play, and basic safety. They came by often to check on us and offer any tips or answer any questions. The vibe of this place is very chill and laid back. They have good music playing in the background and there is a lot of comic art work on the walls - bonus points! The standard reservation time is an hour, which is plenty of time to enjoy yourselves. There is no on site parking but parking on the street is not metered past 6 (at least on weekends). If you have to park far there are plenty of lime scooters around to get you there quicker. If you are looking for something cool and fun to try, I definitely suggest coming to Throw It! I think this place would benefit from maybe selling beverages - alcoholic or non alcoholic. read more

Came here this past weekend from LA for a bachelorette and let me just tell you, my friends and I will definitely be back for more fun! The owners are super nice and welcoming, and the axe expert was super helpful and patient with us since we're no experts. However, after this experience I'm well on my way thanks to these guys ;) They even let us put pictures of our exes for some motivation to hit that bullseye. They took the time to explain everything and checked up on us frequently to make sure we were okay. Although we reserved lanes ahead of time, when we got in it was packed, so we were expecting a little wait, but no these people managed to get us in BEFORE our reservation time - talk about efficiency! No sure what this negative Nancy review under mine is saying because this place was happening! They have music, life size board games annnd arcade style video games. Oh and did I forget to mention they have the sweetest frenchie (Capone) there to make you feel right at home! They worked one on one with me any my friend until we got the technique of throwing axes down. The only CON to this location is parking.. we had to pay $25 to park at a lot and walk to the location. Terrible customer service. We were visiting from out of town, wanted to do something fun, and last minute. We scheduled a time slot for 10pm and quickly upon the discovery of the mass amounts of traffic, closed roads, and time frame, and parking issues. We were not making our axe throwing adventure. My husband called explaining that it was Cinco De Mayo, the roads were closed, there was no parking, and we had been stuck in traffic for 45 minutes trying to find any sort of parking. The lady on the other end told us there was a no refund policy but she could try her hardest to reschedule us for another day. We told her we leave in the morning we're from hours away and was just visiting. She refused to help us any further, and told us to email the company. Good thing our bank, is amazing because this place is too expensive for no refunds. There is another location in San Diego with much nicer people, who are much more understanding. We decided to try this place out for Father's Day, as it seemed like a great GUY thing to do but I think the girls in our family were even more competitive than the guys were. What a fun experience it was for ALL of us; and I can't say enough about the owners who were so flexible with our large party, even when we realized we'd be arriving a little late.
