Great breakfast sandwich. Brings you back to the 80's. You can play video games while you wait. Could have use a bit more seating.

Boy, I gotta say I was not disappointed as soon as I walked in, I got a sense that I was definitely in the right spot. The look , feel & smell of it immediately brought me back to my cherished Jersey City roots. Everything on display looked fresh & inviting. The guy behind the counter (damn I don't recall his name) was super friendly & helpful in assisting me with my choices. Ordered the Godfather Sammy, roasted peppers, sun dried tomatoes & pulpo salad. Everything was delicious ! I travel will be back to NJ several times a year but I think I found my new "Go to spot" ! Just writing this review & thinking about my next trip up (in 3 days) has me salivating for another trip to this place. I will follow up this review with another very shortly to ensure that this wasn't just catching them on a good day but I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed. Stay tuned & I promise to include the counter guys name as he was Aces !

When I was in there, I saw the stuffed bread. After a bit of a conversation about what was in them I opted to get two of them one with broccoli Rabe And one with mixed vegetable vegetables. Boy were we both unhappy with what we got. My boyfriend's father found his braciole and sauce to be so salty it was inedible. He likes food and he is rarely disappointed in an Italian meal. But he said it was so bad that he couldn't even eat it. He ended up throwing it away. I was equally disappointed. Maybe more so. There was no way that vegetable roll was made that day let alone any sooner than two days before. It was so stale. It was hard as a rock. And I hadn't even heated it up. I cut into it right after I brought it home. It also tasted stale. I ended up throwing it away too. Broccoli Rabe roll was a tad better. It wasn't hard as a rock. But it wasn't fresh either. It tasted meh. The only thing I was happy with are the prepackaged taralli. They were imported and were lovely. Go there for the prepackaged imported food products. Don't waste your money on the dicey homemade food experience.

It is celebrated the Thursday in the week before Ash Wednesday, whose tradition is unique since it dates back to at least the Middle Ages, and is the perfect excuse to eat the famous and delicious Polish pastry. Pączki, pronounced "poonch-key," are Polish deep-fried donuts that are filled with some sweet filling such as jam, custard, lemon curd, or chocolate. They are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing, glaze, or dried orange zest. Located on Jewell Street in Garfield, we've been coming here to Kohout Bakery for a couple of years. Greeted by the friendly staff, my partner and I were lucky to have the whole establishment to ourselves. Like a step back in time, this small bakery sells freshly made bread, danishes, cookies, strudel, and some deli meats. Patrons have raved about the perfect balance of flavors, particularly noting the distinction between glazed and powdered jelly varieties. We picked out a couple of their donuts, whose price was very reasonable and cash only. This bakery continues to celebrate the joy of baking and the flavors of generations past, which we can recommend.

This review is based on the hot hero sandwiches. I got the Chicken Ala Vodka which is breaded chicken, melted mozzarella with their homemade vodka sauce which was alright. I split this with my friend. My friend got the Crusader which is sliced steak, potato, onion rings, peppers and American cheese which was also alright. I think they mashed the potatoes with the sliced steak, not overly mashed potato texture though. I think my expectations were high but it's still a solid neighborhood spot. The place gets busy and seems people order in advance for pick up. The amount of food and fair prices definitely makes it worthy to stop by but I will stick to the cold sub heroes next time. * Street parking * Indoor dining * Fair prices

There is something that I felt like conveying. Mike is an awesome owner and an upstanding guy. This is a real great neighborhood place and parents absolutely should welcome their kids going there. I was online yesterday and one of the children was short a few bucks. Mike never even hesitated and proceeded with the girl's order. That to me is a standup guy. Parents should absolutely know that their kids are safe there and Mike will alwsys take care of them. I hope the parents know that and will continue to support this great establishment. I just wanted to pass along my praise. It makes me feel good that there are still some great people in the world and this is a great high quality place.

Bolstered by the rave reviews, my husband and I made a special trip to visit this humble sandwich…read moreshop. Right off the bat, the presentation deserves gold stars. These sandwiches aren't small; each half is likely a pretty hearty meal on its own, and when served on decorative wax paper and a wooden serving board, it's a pretty sight. That said, nothing really wowed. I ordered the vodka parmigiana sandwich while my husband went with the sausage sandwich. The orders took some time to come out, which felt like an assurance that things were being prepared fresh, but I was surprised at how lukewarm the chicken cutlet, sauce, and sausage pieces were. On the plus side, the bread is the seeded variety (in my book, the ultimate type for a sandwich) and nicely toasted. My husband thought his sausage sandwich needed some sort of a sauce, to which the owners happily obliged with some ketchup. It helped, but his overall impression of his meal was similar to my own - good, not great. While our meal didn't blow us away, what everyone else has shared about the owners is true. These are the nicest, most welcoming folks behind the counter. They greeted us the moment we entered and guided us through the bestsellers of the menu.
