Hoot-N-Annie is VERY particular about what they take in to consign... but this means what they sell is quality, and they are responsible in taking care of your items. The shop owner Tina, and the sales associates are pleasant and happy to help. At my baby shower, I received a beautiful baby girl outfit as a gift, but I unexpectedly had a baby boy. Since it was a gift, I wasn't aware of the store's strict 2-week return policy. Between postpartum recovery and caring for a newborn, it was impossible to return within that timeframe, and I went in 3 weeks after giving birth hoping for some understanding. Unfortunately, the manager was not empathetic or willing to help, even though the item was brand new and unusable for my baby. I understand stores have policies, but some compassion and flexibility for new parents would go a long way. Very disappointing experience from a store I previously enjoyed supporting.

For Easter they have an assortment of gift bags shaped like bunnies, Peep inspired bunnies and place cards for your table, and modern pastel bunnies that are all so cute! Being a fan of Peeps, I had to get the place cards! They carry adorable selection of children's clothing, a rack on one wall is filled with beautiful and high quality items. The accessories are just as fun! Whimsical barrettes, earrings and jewelry, even someone fashiond dolls. Paper plates, journals, task pads, gift wrap, fun kitchen towels (Paris, you are speaking to me!) and coffee mugs - all adorned in beautiful florals and graphic patterns that will add a splash of color to your day. Small but nice assortment of Hobo crossbody bags, totes and purses. Whoever curates the products at Village Cheer is doing a fantastic job! So happy we discovered this gem!

The woman helping me was very friendly, happy to help but to give me space. I bought a top for my babe and when I was looking at it she mentioned she had a navy colorway, which wasn't out on the floor but she went to get it for me to take a look at and I MUCH preferred it to the green one I had seen and was considering. I can't wait to see her in it! It's not a cheap shop, particularly if you're looking for clothing. But they had a sale going on when I was here and the two racks were packed with stuff. The woman who was at the store--the owner, I think, based on our conversation--was friendly and super helpful. She knows her merchandise inside and out. She carries clothing here that I've never seen before at the children's stores I usually visit in the Chicago area (I've already told the owner of one of them that she needs to look into these brands!). I really appreciated that she explained the sizing system since I was a bit perplexed at first (maybe she saw my confusion)--since some are brands based in other countries, they're sized by centimeter but the American sizing equivalent is on the back of the tag (though can we talk about that cm/in sizing system for a moment, because it would make my life infinitely easier when trying to buy kid clothes....) Almost the moment I walked into the shop I zeroed in on this adooooorable pantsuit for my daughter, and a darling dress. I'm buying a little larger for her since she's a high percentile child and I'm looking forward to seeing her in these when she's big enough to wear them. They also sell local goods--I bought a Portland-themed t-shirt for the babe. I asked about a local shoe company I'd heard of that listed BW as a retailer and though they don't carry that brand any longer, she showed me a different local brand they carry called Ozznek (which has super cool shoes with removable soles!!) and I bought two pair for my little. This lovely little store was worth the visit; I will definitely return and I'm keeping an eye on their socials. I think they ship as well so between that and stopping in when I'm home visiting my mom I can keep my babe in cool duds. Parking is on the street, and it was easy for me in late morning/early afternoon on a Thursday, but I'm not sure if they have any parking lots or garages for visitors to Portland's Boise neighborhood.

The team here was amazing -- they patiently walked us through each option and gave clear demonstrations. What really stood out was that they allowed us to take the strollers outside for a real test run, complete with a demo baby. All we had to do was provide our IDs. This made a huge difference since testing a stroller on the sidewalk feels totally different than just pushing it around indoors. They have a great selection of strollers and car seats. The clothing struck me as being very original, as all of the items were reversible: Reversible overalls, reversible shorts, and reversible dresses and jumpers. The fabric combinations were clever, fun and colorful -- just the type of thing you want to dress your little ones in. And upon close inspection, I could see that the products were very well made. The owner of the booth, Linda, explained how she uses high quality quilting fabric in her designs and that all of the components - from the metal snaps to the thread and elastic - were all American made. Plus, the stitching was top notch, too. But, I couldn't get over the reversible nature of the products; it was almost like getting two pair of overalls for the price of one. A pretty good value, these days. I ended up purchasing a pair of reversible overalls for a little friend of mine, and she just loves them. In fact, her mother says they have become her favorite thing to wear. So much so, that the mother has to sneak into her daughter's room at night to steal them, just so she can launder them! I have since purchased a dress and a couple of pairs of shorts from her online. Her turnaround time was phenomenal - especially considering it was a custom order, and everything arrived just as promised. If you are looking for quality, handcrafted children's clothing, I strongly suggest you check out Nana's Creations at Portland Saturday Market. Or make it easy on yourself and order from her online.
