If you're in Covina and craving legit Chinese food this is the spot! Food is delicious and nostalgic for someone who grew up eating Chinese cuisine. The interior is bustling and filled with chatter of patrons, very casual. Service is abrupt but straight forward, as is usually standard in good Chinese restaurants. Highly recommend!
decent dumpling spot. beef noodle soup was pretty good, but not the best. dumplings in chili oil were good too but nothing too special. all in all, i wouldn't come back with so many options in the area. also very crowded and a weird ordering system on your phone
Thumbling (West Covina) ALWAYS overflows with customers. It's sincerely delicious and affordable, but the long wait times always dissuade me from dining in. However, if you order To-Go, the process is very EASY and smooth. On a weekday, I ordered the Crab Roe & Pork Xiao Long Bao ($15 - 8 Pieces), Fish & Coriander Dumplings ($14 - 8 Pieces), Shanghai Shrimp and Pork Wonton ($15), and Crab Meat Egg White Soup ($15) on the phone for To-Go. The lady on the phone spoke fluent English, and she spoke with an upbeat and cheerful personality. My food was ready for pickup in 30 minutes. Concerning parking, it's not too bad. Parking is available but competitive. The location has many cars searching for spots since this plaza includes the popular 85 degrees bakery. When I'd arrived that Monday, there was already a HUGE line of people waiting for Dine-In. I just walked in to approach the counter. Staff requested my phone number for pickup, and Staff moved very efficient and business-like. Regarding the food, it was DIVINE. The flavors and textures were impeccable. I happily feasted. The dumplings, wontons, and xia long bao all had the springy, sought-for texture. And each piece was STUFFED with fresh ingredients. SO TASTY! And the Crab Meat soup overflowed with crab and hot liquid which left me satisfied and full. I felt so happy... Overall, Thumbling (West Covina) continues to be a must-try if in the area. The food is very authentic, affordable, and delicious. Personally, I'd only order for To-Go since the crowds are a bit intense, but Thumbling (West Covina) deserves all the love. 5 out of 5. If curious, just go.
First time trying this and I we ordered to go. I selected the honey walnut shrimp and the brown sugar milk tea with boba. After seeing the pictures and comparing to what I got, i must say the drinks look like just milk with boba. Very disappointing and the honey walnut shrimp was good but nothing to rave about. Visited 5/20/26 - Black Pepper Udon with Chicken 17 Typically eat this with beef but it was decent with chicken, for those being mindful abt red meat! Flavor is good, I honestly thought it was Hong Kong cafe level good. - Chicken XLBs 11 I would definitely opt to get this in pork only moving forward. I would say this was almost passing.. Skin was on the thicker side so no spillage! - Pan Friend Pork Dumplings 10 Not pictured but I always have to get this. I love that they add a dumpling skirt and the presentation was beautiful. Usually a dumpling purist, who only uses vinegar but it comes with a thick sweet sauce that was too good to pass up! - Cucumber Salad 7 Standard, I love that the plated it like DTF. On the more flavorful side, if my picky vegetables eaters are wondering. Would get again. You queue outside with their touchpad, no yelp waitlist. You also order with QR code. The staff were SUPER tentative about the water. I went on a monday so not busy but be careful on weekends for long queues! Didn't get boba this time but usually opt for the fruit teas! If you are in the IE and dont want to go all the way into SGV, thumbling is the go to!
I was so surprised by how popular this restaurant is. We arrived at 5 PM on Sunday and there was already a wait. They only accept walk-ins so make sure to come early. There were four of us and we ordered an appetizer, pork soup, dumplings, crab soup, dumplings, spicy sesame noodles and a beef roll. Everything was delicious delicious and the service was warm and friendly. The restaurant isn't very big and crowded quickly, so arriving early is definitely a good idea. It's located in a plaza with plenty of parking, and the prices are very reasonable. I especially love the soup dumplings. The wrappers were incredibly thin and delicate definitely worth trying.
I had an amazing experience at Thumbling in West Covina. The place is very clean, with a nice vibe, and the service was timely. Every dumpling I tried was flavorful.the spicy chicken wontons had a fantastic chili oil sauce, and the beef roll was a standout: crisp cucumbers, sweet hoisin sauce, and fresh cilantro. I loved the variety, from pan-fried to steamed options. My only downside was that the appetizers were a bit pricey,though the dumplings themselves were fairly reasonable. Still, a great spot I'd recommend,especially for large groups!
I came for brunch with my sister and it is already packed. Luckily we were able to get seated pretty quickly. There is a QR code that you can scan which will give you the digital menu which you can order off of right away without having to wait for the waiter. If you're not sure on what to order the menu tells you what is their popular dishes to help give you an idea of what's good. We order the marinated cucumber salad, Shanghai spicy shrimp and pork wontons, pan fried pork dumplings, pork xiao long bao, and the beef tenderloin udon with black pepper. My favorites were the Shanghai spicy shrimp and pork wontons and the beef tenderloin udon with black pepper. Both are considered spicy dishes but I have a weak spicy tolerance and I did not think that they were spicy at all! The pan fried dumpling skirt was crispy and instantly melts in your mouth. The xiao long baos have a small amount of soup within and the cucumber salad was so refreshing. The food comes out quick! The staff work quick to ensure you get all of your food fast. This place is one of my favorite spots to grab some dumplings. Highly recommend!
Better than DTF and cheaper. I got 4 items: spicy wontons, beef roll, cucumbers, and the crispy pot stickers = $50 after taxes. And all of the items were good The spicy wontons isnt that spicy but had a lil kick to it and the sauce is good. The cucumbers is similar to the dtf one but just with thicker slices. Beef rolls meat could be more marinated but not bad. Crispy pot stickers were crisping. Definitely come early because theres always a long wait.
Came here with my partner and overall it was just okay. I wouldn't call it great, mainly because the food didn't taste the way I expected, and unfortunately it's not somewhere I'd return to. I've visited twice now, and both times were disappointing. The biggest letdown was the pork chop with egg fried rice; the rice was completely unseasoned, which really ruined the dish for me. The udon was decent, but nothing memorable. The xiao long bao was also just okay, which was surprising since that's usually a standout at dumpling-focused spots. On a positive note, the staff were great, very friendly and helpful, and most spoke Cantonese, which I appreciated. Ordering is done through a QR code on your phone, which is convenient if you prefer minimal contact, though I personally still like having a server take our order. Overall, nice service but the food just didn't deliver for me.
I cannot believe this was my first time trying Thumbling! This place is a West Covina staple and 9/10 has a large group of people outside waiting to get a table. I think that this is a pretty comparable restaurant to Din Tai Fung, just not as upscale. For service here, you order via a QR code on your table. However, the staff still comes around often to check in and grab drinks. The food here was hot and flavorful. We loved the beef roll, xiao long bao, green beans, and beef fried noodles. Now if they could only add the DTF chocolate xiao long boa to the menu... I would love them forever.
It took a few attempts for my boyfriend and I to try Thumbling. The first time we came by it was so busy they had a long wait and we decided to go elsewhere. The second time, the estimated wait was reasonable enough for us to wait it out. We were seated at an extremely TIGHT counterspace where the depth of the ledge was really insufficient to enjoy a meal comfortable. The space inside the restaurant really seems like the squeezed in as many seats as they can, while compromising the comforts of the customers. It's one thing if other dumb customers keep bumping into me... but it's annoying when their staff keeps bumping into me cause the walkway is insufficiently tight. To order, you scan the QR code and self order. So not much service here either. We ordered a Pork Xiao Long Bao ($8/6 piece), Sauteed Spinach with Garlic ($14), and a Beef Tenderloin Udon with Black Pepper ($18). We probably could have eaten more but the space was not comfortable for me to enjoy. The udon noodles came out first, then the xiao long baos, then the spinach. The food tasted decently. The xiao long baos skin were thin and they were juicy and flavorful. The udon and spinach were average, just like any other business that offers these dishes. I feel like the reason why people love this place is the price. The food isn't anything mind blowing or special enough for me to put up with the crowd and cramped space. Definitely not worth waiting too long for. To each their own. I'll leave this place to others who align with what they're offering.
I was really excited to try Thumbling since I kept hearing comparisons to Din Tai Fung, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. I called shortly after opening and was quoted a 25-minute wait for takeout. The timing was accurate and my order was ready right when I arrived, which I appreciated. Tried the pork XLB ($8 for 6 pieces), HK Shrimp & Pork Wonton Noodle Soup ($15), Chicken Egg Fried Rice ($15), and Beef Fried Noodle ($17). Most of the soup inside the XLBs had already leaked out - though that's probably just the downside of getting them to-go. The bigger issue was that the fried rice and noodles were pretty bland and needed extra soy sauce and chili for flavor. The chili oil itself was purely oil, so I'm not sure what went wrong there while packaging. The service also felt a bit rushed. The gentleman assisting me quickly handed over my order and walked away without much interaction. Staff seems to speak limited English but can understand enough to get by. Thumbling is located in the same plaza as 85 Degrees and Dave's Hot Chicken. It's a large plaza, but parking can be tough during peak hours. I was surprised to see Thumbling almost completely full around noon on a weekday. Unfortunately, the food just didn't quite meet my expectations.
This place has been popping ever since opening and I finally got to try it out for myself. I arrived around 7 pm and a Tuesday and joined the virtual waiting list. I think it's fairly safe to say that there will almost always be some sort of wait due to popularity. After getting a text saying our table was ready, we headed inside only to be told that the text was sent five minutes ago (it was not and I had receipts). We ended up having to wait another 10 minutes before getting a table and I saw this happen to a few other groups, so I definitely think they need to improve their system. We order the beef noodles, cucumber salad, xiao long bao, and chicken potstickers. I would say everything was tasty, but the xiao long bao and potstickers were up there with the best I've ever had. They have many other options on the menu that looked interesting enough to try. I think I would stick to dim sum for the next time I visit. Parking isn't too bad in the shopping plaza. They also didn't bring us an item we ordered and cancelled that item. I would say it was a decent enough experience overall, but service and the whole seating issue is something that is still lacking. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS!!! THE STAFF AT THUMBLING ARE SCANDALOUS ASF Be mindful OF WHEN YOU CHECKOUT WITH THE STAFF BECAUSE THEY CHARGE A TIP WHEN YOU PAY WITHOUT ASKING... We came here two days ago and everything was fine up until one of the waitresses took our card and decided TO VOLUNTARILY TAKE A TIP WITHOUT OUR CONSENT...AND THERE WAS ONLY TWO OF US SO ITS NOT LIKE WE HAD A HUGE PARTY FOR GRATUITY..She said she applied the tip already and took off ...I had every intention of giving them a cash tip however there staff is SUPER RUDE and basically HELPED herself & is TAKING from there customers?charging our card without asking first? Come one what kind of shithole is this lol.. I will speak to management and I hope they don't continue to do this to there customers !!!!!!!! Never did I expect a good Taiwanese restaurant located in West Covina. Only shows how long it's been since I've ventured in this area! I loved that we could order from our table using the QR code and that everything came out quickly, although we did come when they first opened on a Sunday morning. The servers were attentive despite us ordering from our phones, which was a nice gesture. My boyfriend and I LOVED the fried pork chop (a la carte) and it even got him reminiscing about his childhood. The beef noodle soup was on point, without the soup base being overly oily which tends to happen at restaurants. Our least favorite dish was the scallion pancakes because we prefer ours to be slightly thicker but the dipping sauce was delicious! Will come back next time I'm in the area! read more

Looked delicious! Tastes average. Questionable value for money. The food overall was okay. It was enjoyable, but lacked depth of flavor. Lots of MSG was used yet many of the dishes tasted quite bland. Fried Pork Dumplings - bread bao was not soft texture whilst the meat inside was dried out Pork Xiao Long Bao - soupy, but quite tasteless Udon noodle stir fry - the best thing we had, lots of flavor Beef noodle soup - delicious but nothing special 5 items for $100 is quite hefty, I can't really rationalize coming here again, but fulfills the craving nonetheless! I Love this restaurant. Any order from their menu will be amazing. I am a returning customer. I really enjoyed the food in this place This time I placed my order through Uber Eats. The prices were higher than the actual menu, but I was craving siu mai and dumplings so it was convenient. I ordered the following: -Shrimp and pork siu mai -Crab roe and pork Xiao long bao -Shrimp and pork steamed dumplings -Salt and pepper squid not spicy As I said everything in their menu is so delicious. I came here for Sunday lunch time with the family. Lines get pretty busy, on a first come first serve basis. Get there early on a weekend. Food: Authentic Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant. They specialize in XLB, and other dumping house and noodle house. We ordered the steam fried dumplings, crispy dumplings and XLB. All were delicious and really authentic. We also ordered the beef and broccoli. We really enjoyed them. The meat is sliced very thin and soft. Beef with noodle stir fry; fresh noodles and thin sliced beef. Fresh and great flavor. Restaurant: busy and well staffed. Very convenient to order your food. There's a QR code you scan with your phone. You can order through your phone and always can add more. Every time you order they send out a receipt to your table. I wish most busy restaurants or Asian restaurants would adapt to the system of ordering food. At the end you can have the Option to pay with cash or card or split with two people. Parking: It's in a plaza with other restaurants. I can see how weekends can get busy but we didn't have a difficult time getting a space. I highly recommend this restaurant. Looking forward to coming back here soon. Give them a try. I love Thumbling! I have visited this restaurant 4 times and was impressed with the speed of service and quality of ingredients every single time. If you're looking for a Din Tai Fung dupe, Thumbling delivers in taste, but gives larger portions for approximately the same price--all in the 626 area! My go-to entrees are their garlic green beans, pork XLB, and shrimp fried rice which are always seasoned well. I have also tried their pork pan-fried dumplings, shrimp and pork siu mai, shrimp and pork steamed dumplings, shanghai pork wonton soup (you can ask for egg noodles on the side), and garlic chicken wings. All dishes were fantastic! Ordering is incredibly convenient via QR code and service is quick. There's ample free parking available in the plaza. read more

TLDR: Beef Noodle Soup: 4/5 Pork XLB: 4/5 Overall: this ain't Din Tai Fung, but if you're looking for something similar at larger portions, this will do the trick There are many people comparing this place to Din Tai Fung, and I don't believe that's a fair comparison. If Din Tai Fung was Nordstrom, Thumbling would be some form of Macy's. Sure, you can get a lot more at Macy's for your dollar, but the quality of items Nordstrom's is much better. The same can be said for Thumbling and Din Tai Fung. At Thumbling, you will get XLB that are much larger in stature, and beef noodle soup at larger portion than that at DTF. However, the XLB are folded much more elegantly, the skin is much tighter and much crisper, and the quality of meat is better. Additionally, the ambiance at DTF is implied to be more upscale, whereas Thumbling is more of a casual dinner/lunch spot. The main difference is at Thumbling, you will actually get full off a couple of items. At DTF, you can keep ordering and end up spending large amounts of money until you're finally full. Additionally, the XLB and beef noodle soup are solid here. You get what you're looking for taste wise, and there's not much to complain about. All in all, Thumbling is a much better bang for your buck than DTF, but I wouldn't come here expecting the SAME stuff as Din Tai Fung as some people are saying. read more

I loved everything about the food here, so flavorful and delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything you order because we just ordered a bunch of things that sounded good and it all turned out to be some great choices. The food comes family style so it's a good place to bring family or a group of friends. The menu feels endless but that is always good because they have something everyone can enjoy. The service is also great, food comes out pretty quick. 10/10 recommend read more

Those soup dumplings are LIFE. The texture and flavors are on point and the fresh ginger and dipping sauces makes everything POP. The cucumbers are a must! Tons of flavor and so crisp and crunchy!! The garlic green beans are a game changer in getting your greens, I love garlic, so I won't turn away and dish with lots of garlic. The taro buns are the perfect dessert treat. The hot and sour soup, was not as I expected but good. I prefer alot more vinegar and spice. I highly recommend the honey citrus tea, reminds me alot of the Starbucks "medicine ball" but fresher or more refreshing. read more

My favorite was the soup dumplings literally gave me the feels... scallion pancakes bomb so soft and buttery...the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it's small in there... the tables are so close together you barely have any privacy but service was good and I like how you order on your phone as you go...I will forsure be back! read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. We ordered our food at 6:01pm. One of our noodles arrived within 15-20 minutes. Our dumplings and wonton soup arrived AN HOUR AFTER ordering. We notified a waiter within 15-20 minutes after receiving our first noodles that were missing the rest of our order and they looked confused & lost. They came and informed us that the reason why it is taking so long is because most likely our order ticket got stuck in the machine. Really? So how did the tables next to us, who arrived about 15-20 minutes after us, get their entire order before us? How did their order ticket print out correctly and not ours??? It was very frustrating to see MULTIPLE parties arrive AFTER us and receive their meals + leave BEFORE us. At the end of our long awaited meal, my boyfriend kindly asked one server if we could get some sort of discount because of the terrible service we received. He said he would go ask. Then another serve came by and she said she would ask the manager to see if we could get a discount. She comes back and says the manager said they couldn't give us a discount & all we could do is not leave a tip. Very disappointing!! We did our very best to be understanding and patient as they were having a dinner rush. BUT TO WAIT A WHOLE HOUR FOR FOOD??? Very disappointing with the service and management! read more

I was pretty disappointed coming this time around. We ordered the spicy wontons, sesame noodles, pork xiao long bao, shrimp shumai, and beef roll. I feel like the quality really went down. The xiao long baos tasted fine but most of them were stuck to each other and kept tearing and one even came already popped so it defeated the purpose of soup dumplings lol. I didn't exactly love the taste of the beef roll either. The wrap was kind of doughy and was drowning in sauce. There was more cucumber than beef so maybe it's more of a cucumber roll lol. Usually beef rolls are my favorite but this was such a let down. The service was also not the best. They're kind of rude and hard to get ahold of. I'll be honest, I don't mind bad service if the food is good but my entire experience kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. read more
Came here for dinner with a few friends the other night after hearing about it on social media and it did not disappoint! Thumbling is fast casual located in a busy plaza, but you can easily find it by searching for the crowd of people standing outside the restaurant. Parking can be a bit of a mess during peak dinner time. They have a waitlist system (similar to yelp waitlist) but you can only scan the QR code and sign up in person. For a Thursday night, our party got seated pretty quickly and the restaurant was completely full. We ordered a bunch of items to share: Beef noodle soup - 5/5. Truly the star of the show. Really rich broth with a good portion of meat and bok choy. So good! Beef rolls - 4/5. Really good ratio of hoisin sauce, toppings, and beef. Wish the scallion pancake was a little crispier but still really good. XLB - 4/5. We got an order of pork and chicken, and both were really good. Lots of hot soup inside! Noodles with pork - 3.5/5. Exactly as described. Some ground pork and cucumbers over noodles. Kinda boring but not bad. Took some home for leftovers and it was better the next day because the sauce absorbed into the noodles. Spicy wontons - 4/5. Good spice flavor with a slight numbing! Green beens - 4/5. Average. Exactly what you expect, but a little on the oilier side. The food was delicious! We had dumplings, pork bun, and wonton soup. The chile sauces added great spice and heat to our food. The staff had masks on and weren't too friendly. Even with a mask on, you can tell if someone is serving you with a smile. The dining area is very tight! Lots of people packed into this small space. Fun watching them make dumplings through the glass! No paper menus, only scan a QR code on the table to order! Long wait to get in and not of a wait to get food. read more
Unbelievably good! The reason I decided to come here was all because of the salted egg yolk XLB. I really love eating salted egg yolk buns so I was pretty amazed seeing Yelp photos of salted egg yolk XLB. Like how is it possible?? I heard of sweet XLB like the red bean but salted creamy egg yolk XLB??? I gotta try! Ordered spicy wontons, the stirred fried udon, and Shiu mai. I pretty much enjoyed every single item that was ordered. The udon was packed with flavor. The shiu mai was interesting. It wasn't the average siu mai you get at other places. This one has a piece of shrimp on top and inside the pouch was filled with juice and meat. The flavor was lacking a bit to me but my friend thought it was good. Salty egg yolk XLB...it was creamy and good but not great. I do have to say the skin was not so good. It wasn't smooth and didn't blend as well when you're eating the buns. The spicy wontons were the best. It was so flavorful. Not too spicy. I can enjoy it with a smile. Service was ok. The gal needs to be more patience and not so grumpy. 10/10 Customer Service I checked in and waited about an hour. There was 12 party's ahead of mine,Reasonable. Host does a great Job in trying to clean and help everyone inside and out 7/10 Decore is simple and cool just gets a little Hot and Snug. 10/10 Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings, Flavorful,Crunchy ,dipping sauce goes along great. 10/10 Wontons , not overly spicy. 10/10 Pork Xiao, soupy and very Flavorful 8/10 beef Noodles the Flavor of these noodles are great! Beef is cooked well not chewy. 10/10 piggy's are so cute ! Buns are topically Dry so if you aren't a fan don't . Red bean great! 10/10 Fried rice cooked very well simple and great. I checked in and there was 11 parties ahead of me, so I ordered to go. While doing so, I got a text saying my table is ready.I requested to be seated and the worker said no, that I can't eat my food there because I ordered to go. So I told her I'll just order more item and she said no. Because I already ordered to go and can't eat my to go food in the restaurant. I reassured her I will order more food and she started talking crap to her coworker and they decided to seat me next to the trash can. When I clearly saw a few empty tables. I drove from Hesperia to get treated like crap. I ended up just having Udon beef noodles for about 19 dollars read more

Date of visit: 12/23/2021 I would have given this place 5 stars if not only for the kinda-rude service that we got. Food wise everything tasted sooo good! We ordered both pork and crab juicy dumplings, fried rice with pork chop, potstickers, wonton with spicy oil and sesame sauce noodle. All delicious! You can also purchase frozen juicy dumpling and steam them yourself at home. Highly recommended! read more
