I visited this restaurant twice before its permanent closure on April 15, 2026. Some dishes were excellent, while others were just average. Szechwan DanDan Dry Noodles w/ Peanuts: Excellent. It was a bowl of dry noodles topped with green onions, crushed peanuts, and sesame sauce. It tasted like an upgraded version of sesame noodles with a better texture. Ding's Special Cold Plate: Excellent. This signature appetizer platter was one of the restaurant's best. It included five items: dried tofu, seaweed, pig ear, beef tripe, and spicy beef shank. Fried Pork Chop + Green Mustard Fried Rice + Spiced Eggs: A must-order. The fried rice had great "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The fried pork chop, which had a bit of fat, was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The juiciness and the texture of the melted fat were perfectly handled without being greasy. Shanghai Sesame Fermented Rice Dumpling Soup: A must-order. The portion was huge and enough for four people. It used mini tangyuan (rice balls) with sesame filling, and the combination of osmanthus powder, fermented rice, and egg drop was excellent. Also, it wasn't overly thickened with starch like at other restaurants. Soybean with Bean Curd Leaves: Very good. The moisture was reduced to just the right level, and the flavor was as satisfying as a meat dish. In addition, unlike the cold appetizers served elsewhere, this one was served hot. Braised Pork Belly: Good. It came with two translucent-looking spiced eggs and four pieces of pork belly. The sweet sauce was well-absorbed, and the meat was stewed until it was quite tender with almost no "porky" smell. Overall, it was a good dish, but the version at Blue Magpie in Arcadia is even better. The following dishes were good but not must-tries: Pan-Fried Dumplings, Steamed Dumplings, Stir-fried Rice Cakes, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Shrimp & Pork Wonton Soup, Fish Fillets in Rice Wine Sauce, and Stir-fried Spinach with Garlic. Steamed Stinky Tofu: Highly not recommended! Is this even Jiangzhe cuisine? It tasted more like Sichuan-style poached stinky tofu. It was way too salty, so much so that I stopped eating after about 60% and didn't even have the desire to take the leftovers home. Shanghai Style Salted Chicken: Highly not recommended! The chicken texture was quite dry, and the worst part was the abundance of small bone fragments. This plaza is not very large, and the parking spaces are small, so it's best to avoid peak dining hours. Otherwise, it gets very crowded, and just trying to find a parking spot can completely kill your appetite. I hadn't been to this restaurant for at least five years because none of the dishes ever really stood out to me. When we arrived, the staff were having their meal, which made us feel awkward about interrupting them. The interior is really clean and big. This place can fit large group of people around 10-12. We ordered three bowls of noodles (the texture of the noodles was very average), one plate of pork chop fried rice (the pork chop was quite good and very juicy, and the fried rice would have tasted even better with the sauce from the soy-sauce duck), and a half order of soy-sauce duck (I've had better versions at other restaurants, so this one felt fairly ordinary). The total came to nearly $90. The food was acceptable overall, but at this price point, it doesn't make me want to come back. read more

I've been going to this place for their spicy pig ears. It's the best I tried so far in this area. I usually order fried rice cake, pork chop rice, or beef roll. I feel it would be a bit better with less peanut butter as substitute for sesame paste. Other than that it's solid with accompanying preserved vegetables on top. Would ask for more if possible. We have been going to Ding's Garden for over 30 years. I love all their food listed on the menu. As soon as I found out that the restaurant provides 私房菜， I reserved a table for 12 with our closest friends for tonight. With the help of the restaurant owner Florence, we came up with 16 dishes. The food was very authentic, not sweet and not spicy, just the way we like it. Every dishes not only look good and also tasted fantastic. They have a large table that fits 12 comfortably. hubby was in the mood of reasonably priced noodles tonight. most of the places near us are almost $20/bowl of noodles. we thought of this place that we haven't been for a while. came in a little before 6pm on a Monday night. only 1 table of 3 people were ready to leave. the place was empty until another group of 6 came in a few minutes after us. throughout our dinner there's only us 2 tables of guests. we ordered beef/tendon noodle soup, pan fried pork buns (my childhood favorite), 2 appetizers: Shanghai-style gluten puffs and salted chicken. the chicken was very dry, not what we expected. gluten came in a pre-packed box, they didn't even bother to plate it. noodles soup was tasty with tender meats. the bao tasted good but the shapes were not appealing as I'm more used to the dough gathered on the top. we didn't order their famous mixed appetizer as each dish is almost $20 now. This little restaurant closes at 9 pm and we arrived at 8:40 pm. Luckily, they allowed us to come in even though it appeared they were getting ready to close for the night. I was in the mood for some porridge or congee, but they didn't have any, so I decided to try the Two Flavor Won Ton soup which the won ton was made of pork and shrimp and had some spinach in it. I always crave for soup when it's cold and if I'm not super hungry. The soup had 8 won tons and it was so tasty. It really hit the spot. This plaza is located at one of the busiest intersection. The parking could be a hassle. Once I got to the front door, it didn't look too busy. I decided to give it a try after 13 hours of work, and too late to cook. I ordered braised pork chop fried rice. The price was slightly higher than medium for this platter. After a short while, it was served. The braised pork chop was tasty but a little on the salty side to me. The fried rice texture was spot on but a little but oily. I ate the whole plate anyway except the plate itself and the utensils. Overall, it was not great but it was decent. The decor wasn't anything special. If I could rate it in number, it's more like 3.7 out of 5. So it gets a lucky 4 stars in my book. See you next time! read more

Used to come here all the time for three things: Dan Dan noodles, beef noodle soup, and pig ears. Today, the beef noodle soup was subpar and lacking any sort of braised beef flavor. It tasted more like soy sauce water. We complained (politely) to the staff and they brought it to the back to "fix" it. We didn't know what that meant because this soup takes hours to cook. We then told the staff that we didn't want the same dish, but instead to exchange it for something else. The staff was rude and told us to wait, they were fixing it. We just wanted to change our order to another dish so we asked again for the menu. The head chef came out and started talking to us, apologized and said that the beef soup wasn't seasoned properly but they're working on it now. We said again we wanted a separate dish, so she started to suggest other dishes. The head chef was very nice, but we ended up not wanting anything in the end. The braised beef was very tender and paired with the al dente noodles made for a nice textured bite. The broth packed just the right amount of spice. If you're going to order one thing here - try the Shanghai style pan fried wontons. This, my friends, is a pan fried dumpling on the outside, and soup filled on the inside. How is this possible? I do not know, but check it out for yourself. Both the fried pork chop dish + spicy wontons are family favorites. The wontons, unlike other places, are substantial in size. First review of 2021! One of my favorite restaurants in the Rowland Heights area. I'm glad they were able to expand their space years ago, but nowadays, I guess that isn't very significant. Their menu is super extensive, so there is something for everyone. My favorite item here is their cold dish combos with the pig ear, sliced beef, tripe, etc. Their portions are very very generous at a very good price as well! I've gotten their rice dishes, beef noodle soup, beef rolls, xiao long baos, chive pockets and a bunch more stuff, and they are all very solid! It's definitely beneficial to come with a few people so that you can share different menu items with everyone. My latest experience was going with a group of 15 the day after New Years (pre-COVID) and they were super accommodating in trying to fit our entire party at one table inside their restaurant. Service was great the entire time although they did miss a few items, but they were also courteous with fixing them. Haven't been able to visit during COVID but I do plan on visiting in the near future. Definitely try them out! read more

It started very small and gotten bigger as the business grew. Its located at a very busy plaza. It will be challenging to find parking especially on Friday and weekends. Each restaurant have little spot in front of the store but that gets packed super fast too. I've went back twice after my initial visit. Have to say I am lowkey addicted to their dan dan noodles. Love how its perfectly spicy. I know they have other stuff to try but I am such a creature of habit. Their pan fried dumplings are great but their steamed dumplings are even better. They also sell side dishes you can purchase at the restaurant. One of these days when I eat less I have to try their dessert. I always get too full after my dinner I usually have no room. Located in the busy plaza with Baekjong, Sun Nong Dan, and Boiling Crab...Ding's Garden isn't the star of the plaza. However, that doesn't mean that they don't serve good shanghai/taiwanese food! My fiance loves their spicy pig ears because the chili oil has that slight heat and you don't get any funky smell/taste from the pig ears. Pro tip: if you have members of your party that don't like spicy, just order the non-spicy and they have the same chili oil on the side for you to add your own. I enjoy their Beef noodle soup and XLB the most. The spicy beef noodle soup is where it's at, the broth is rich but not overly salty and the beef is tender. The XLB are juicy and have a thin layer of dumpling wrap surrounding the pork mixture. While those two dishes are great, there are some things that you can pass on because they're just average in my opinion. Their shanghai style rice cakes and beef rolls were nothing spectacular. The rice cakes seem to be overcooked most of the time as a bunch of rice cakes would be smushed together. Overall, Ding's Garden is a solid place to go to when you're craving a bowl of beef noodle soup + XLB. Don't forget to order the pig ears! read more

But I was here in Jan of 2022, and you can obviously tell there's been some kind of ownership change. Ordered a shredded chicken cold noodle, and I was literally dumbfounded by what showed up to the table. The chicken looked like cut strips of processed and reconstituted chicken meat, not actually shredded chicken from a real piece of chicken (like it used to be). There was no peanut paste in the sauce (like there used to be), just some measely crushed peanuts. It had almost no favor compared to what an authentic cold noodle dish should be. A total disappointment. The stinky tofu was barely stinky, it was basically just fried tofu. The passionfruit ice tea was a joke. It's basically just passionfruit syrup and water.
