Very friendly workers, food came quick, good portions. Outstanding blueberry pancakes. They were dense but fluffy, moist but not too moist. Very sweet. The country fried steak was tender and tasty. Tourist trap . Went there around 10 am got seated took the waitress 12 min to acknowledge me or even offered coffee or water another table that got there after me got service before I did . Food was horrible omelette over cooked & rubbery potatoes taste old and stale like they been sitting out for. A while . the food didn't live up to the hype they don't take cash there is a atm with a charge ofcourse :) I would give this a miss and suggest exploring other restaurants that offer better customer service , food and that doesn't have a feel of am already established I don't have to make any effort . read more

I picked the Thumbs Up diner for breakfast because that was my recently deceased father's signature response to "how are you?". The place is warm, friendly and VERY casual ((both of the attractive bus girls were wearing sweat pants). Jennifer, my server, was sweet, attentive and accommodating. She happily turned my Hippy omelette into a scramble, happily added tamari tofu from another menu item, and checked back regularly. She also carried on friendly (and authentic) conversations with all the other customers at the counter. And the other customers were also friendly. Went here for a very early (7am) breakfast. The coffee is free flowing (thank you), the service is friendly and very efficient. We had a mixture of eggs with bacon and chicken sausage. I had the Steak,Eggs and Spuds. My steak was nice and juicy just how I liked it. My guest wasn't as satisfied. The pancakes are made with a grainy batter so they were unhappy with them but was satisfied with everything else. Long story short: long wait. Worth it. Now..We came in at around 10 am on a Sunday morning. There was already a wait. We put our name on the list and sat waiting with the 8 or 9 other parties also waiting to be seated. The diner is pretty small and everyone seemed content to wait so safe bet that's normal. On to the food. Omg! I tasted some of everyone's food and it was all soo good. I had the seafood platter which comes with a fried fish fillet, a 1/2 order of eggs scrambled with salmon and other things, and a small order of shrimp and grits. So good. My only complaint is the texture of the grits were not to my liking, kind of runny I prefer them thicker. My companion had the steak and potatoes which was also well seasoned and exceptionally cooked. The potatoes were hot and delicious too. Mini companion enjoyed her pancakes and some of her moms French toast as well. This place was super friendly and delicious! It's definitely a must go for breakfast spots in ATLANTA the low country heap was DELICIOUS. Sierra was our server and she was awesome! She was very knowledgeable not the menu and checked in on us before and after we got our food. She even helped us decide what we wanted. The place is Cash Only and they do have an ATM machine in the diner but it's a $2 charge. There's a CVS and Wells Fargo near by. Thumbs up is a staple. We are here at least once a week. The food is delicious, however, the icing on the cake is the customer service.

This is my "go to" breakfast spot. I love their hot chocolate! The food is also really good and decently priced. FYI they are cash only, but have an ATM in the back. Also they get crowded on the weekends, so I would suggest going early. read more

We wandered into Thumb's Up after a morning spent touring the MLK Historic District (about 1 mi away). It was bustling though it was after 1 pm and the food was brunch/breakfast like. We were blown away by the scramble of the day (veggies, sausage, smoked bacon) and biscuits. Other diners were feasting on catfish, chicken and waffles and a variety of egg dishes. Portions are big, service fast and friendly. No sandwiches or burgers but a great place for a hearty breakfast or lunch. read more

This diner serves breakfast all day long. The menu is excellent and the prices reasonable. This is southern comfort food ... cooked home style. Thumbs Up is always crowded AND ESPECIALLY ON THE WEEKENDS. My husband and I are new to ATL and are learning our way around. We drove a distance to dine at this eatery. We ate here on a Saturday about 1pm. Our wait was about 30mins ... not bad for the the long lines of waiting diners. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, and a Fried Fish Breakfast Plate. The presentation was nice, taste was as good as "cool" tempered food could be .... our food was not hot, barely even warm. We think that our meal may have been plated and sat for a while before we were served. No matter what happened this was very disappointing. Only because we had waited for a table, then waited for our meal, were hungry and had another stop to make afterwards, we ate our "cooled down" breakfast. Again, this was verrrry disappointing. We've eaten at the College Park Location. The food was excellent and served as soon as it is plated ... piping hot! When in Decatur we may try the Edgewood location again and hope that our food is served hot the next time. The Eggs were nice as were the Grits, but an interesting fact about the traditional "Thumbs Up" sign so often seen in Gladiator Movies. It in fact meant the exact opposite of what you might think. It indicated dispatching your opponent by slitting their throat. And I guess that applies to their Blackened Bacon. read more

Thumbs up to this place! I was in the area a few Saturdays ago and there was a long line of people waiting to go in. People were sitting all on the outside just waiting to go in,everyone we asked about this place had nothing put wonderful things to say about it. I love the little court yard area on the side of the restaurant where you can sit and wait for your party to be called. Today we walked in fifteen minutes before closing, (we didn't know what time they closed until we got to the door) we were not treated any differently, we were not rushed or felt rushed. Everyone was so nice. That's so important especially for your first visit. I will definitely return again and again. The service was thumbs up too. They closed at 3pm. Oh bring cash because that's what is accepted, they do have an ATM machine located inside. I didn't like using it however I'll be prepared next time. read more

This place gets so much right, it's amazing. From the friendly staff and the EASY check-in, the whole process of getting our table was a breeze. They have an iPad on a kiosk right up front where you join on Yelp waitlist. You can also join Waitlisting advance, which I MEANT to do before I left my apartment. But fret not, the wait in a weekday morning was less than 20 minutes. I've seen the lines on the weekends, which look way longer than 20 min, but it's worth it. I promise. I'll start by saying that I was a pain in the butt. I had friends in town who really wanted to try Thumbs Up, but I'm on a really strict diet. Their menu is lots of traditional diner food (grits, pancakes, waffles, scrambles, etc...), along with some lighter options ... but they still didn't comply with my diet. For my order, I pieced together so many random stupid things and the kitchen made me a MASTERPIECE. Their potatoes are freshly sliced and grilled up to perfection. I ordered potatoes, spinach, feta, grilled chicken breast (which was actually SMOKED chicken, but a welcome surprise!) and a poached egg. I expected it to all come out as a hodgepodge if random ramekins of sides, but they essentially made me healthier smothered hash browns! It was so good and SOOOO APPRECIATED! It's hard to eat at a diner when you have allergies AND other dietary restrictions, but Thumbs Up Diner did it with ease. My friends got a ton of food and loved it all. Their coffee is better (and STRONGER) than any other diner coffee I've ever had. Just got a chicken susage biscut from Thumbs up Edgewood .They had a list on how you wanted your egg cooked. I ask for over easy. I don't like hard eggs. The egg looked and tasted like it was cooked for ten minutes. So basically I just paid them and got nothing. Ubereats will not do anything and apparently Thumbs up doesn't answer their phones. Why do people take your money and could careless about the finished product or the customer? Well you got my money sooooo. Stay away... Also the bag was opened and not stapled shut. I laughed when my boyfriend said he HAD to take me to Thumbs Up while we were in ATL. Since eating there, I've apologized to him for laughing - this place is no joke! Food is amazing! We went for breakfast on a Friday morning and the full-to-the-brim parking lot and patrons waiting outside were my first clue that this is the place to be. We were expecting a long wait but opted to sit at the bar. Our waitress was super sweet, attentive and patient as I fumbled over what to order. He immediately ordered 2 "Uptowns" - (real Southern) sweet tea & lemonade heaven in a glass. Since having an Uptown, I crave it constantly - too bad I'm back in NY. He went with the Fried Catfish & Grits - I chose the Chicken & Waffle. I'd never tried catfish for breakfast before and it was cooked perfectly. My friend and I came for a late 'brunch' here. We arrived around 2:30pm and was seated around 3pm. This place is really popular so we ended just taking our seats at the bar. The staff was friendly and got us water immediately and gave us time to review the menu. There are quite a few things on here that I wanted to try - but the fried catfish and grits caught my eyes because it offers a little bit of everything (catfish, eggs, grits, and biscuit) for only $9.50. My friend built her own breakfast plate and ordered a huge piece of french toast (one is PLENTY). Maybe it's because we were here close to closing, but our food took a while to come. When the food did come, my friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The fried catfish was very good. The grits wasn't very flavorful but I liked it. The biscuit feels very homemade and was good with jam. For about 10 bucks - I was SO FULL. Definitely a good place for brunch/lunch if you don't mind waiting! read more

Visited this place on a Friday around 8am, we directly seated our self given there was no waiting. I believe this place only take cash so make sure you have some. The place is very budget friendly though. I went with the pancake special which is a LOT of food. It comes with two eggs any style you choose, substituted potatoes (spuds) rather than grits, a choice of meat and two pancakes. The highlight was the pancake which went really well with the syrup.
