Smoked Chicken Wings & Waffle Breakfast
Shavon C.

A friend took me here for breakfast and the food and service were really good! We added our name to the waitlist online so and the table was ready once we got there. I got the smoked wings which was tasty, the waffle was fresh and flavorful, and the sweet potatoes fries were good. Definitely plan to visit again!

Omg where to start? Thumbs Up Diner has to be the closest to a home cooked, grandma's kitchen type of breakfast spot. It has such a local, down home feel and Jessica was so sweet. There was so much to choose from but I eventually decided on the pork chop breakfast. The pork chops were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I have to be honest. I wasn't able to finish my food till later because I overindulged with the biscuit. They use real butter and provide a homemade compote that's to live for! Later on in the evening, I ate my second porkchop and potatoes from the to-go container without reheating. In my opinion, that's the ultimate test and they definitely passed it. I look forward to trying more things from their menu-especially since it's so affordable!

Casual diner that serves with southern hospitality and large portion sizes. They have a small parking lot but plenty of street parking. Décor is more on the older side but food is delicious. Would recommend adding yourself to the waitlist on weekends about 10 minutes until you reach there so that you don't need to wait as long once you arrive. There isn't any waiting area inside unfortunately (which can be inconvenient when it is cold outside) We got the smoked chicken wings and waffle and the skillet heap. Both very delicious! Would recommend to visitors and locals alike

Fried Fish and Grits Breakfast

Thumbs Up Diner is my go-to for out-of-town guests. I brought my family from Virginia this morning, and they left full and happy. The food is delicious, portions are huge, and prices are fair. We had the fish and grits, seaside breakfast, heap skillet, and everyone got a Lou's coffee (coffee + hot chocolate + whipped cream)--so good. No liquor, but if you're after a solid breakfast, this is it. Join the waitlist before arriving, and make sure your whole party is present. Come hungry!

This was my first time visiting this diner, and unfortunately it was a terrible experience. The woman working the counter was extremely rude and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. I was there with my family, and her tone and attitude were so disrespectful that we chose not to order at all. Instead, we left. No one should feel uncomfortable simply trying to eat out. Customer service makes or breaks a place, and this experience was enough to ensure we won't be back.

This is truly a wonderful diner. I only found out about this place because another Elite recommended it and I am glad they did. There is a small parking lot on the side and plenty of street parking. This place is on the older side as far as decor, furniture, everything else but the food tastes amazing. The staff are wonderful. I ordered the Ultimate Seaside Breakfast. 1 gigantic piece of fried catfish, small side of shrimp and grits, sassy scramble (eggs, salmon, veggies), and biscuit with jam. Everything tasted amazing and was filling.

Wow what an incredible diner experience! True-to-character atmosphere with excellent food pairings - be warned, the portion sizes are gigantic! The fried catfish was the star for me - absolutely so tender and crispy at the same time and beautifully seasoned. The French toast was also delicious! Service was very attentive. If you're thinking about coming here, just come.

Always a fan of Thumbs Up!! I usually go to the West Midtown location so finally checked out the O4W location. We found parking on a residential street and walked over. There's almost always a wait so we hung out, it took about 45 minutes. Thumbs Up always feels like a classic diner and I love their cozy booths. When we finally got seated, I ordered an orange juice and a Skillet Heap with grilled veggies added. The portions were generous and I loved the grilled veggies and cheese in my skillet! Overall, classic ATL breakfast spot that always hits the spot.

Thumbs up gets 2 thumbs up;too bad I only got two thumbs!Attending a conference @ a nearby hotel but really wanted a hearty breakfast/brunch that doesn't cost a fortune. We found this treasure! Dynasty our server was legendary! Friendly & attentive. She noticed the small things like hubby's fork he put on his plate that was cleared nicely. I ordered the "build your own" breakfast & added the large grits because I thought the small wouldn't do it. Thank God for take out containers! The scrambled eggs were perfect, not overcooked just like I asked. The country sausage was savory & not too sagey. Hubby ordered the Low Country Heap skillet. The country potatoes seasoned just enough. The shrimp was not overcooked but tender. Chicken sausage was a good change. The biscuit was a multigrain biscuit;unique but good & fluffy especially with housemade blueberry berry jam! Then, we had to have breakfast dessert! The pancake was large plate size with a vanilla flavor. If I ever make it to Atlanta again, I'll be here for breakfast & maybe even lunch as I hear their smoked wings are epic!

This place has been here for years! I love it ! I used to work off of Auburn Avenue and walk here for some spuds and a pancake at least once a week. This was approximately 10 years ago and they've been going strong for over a decade. This week I came in with a graduation party. We had a great server who accommodated all of our requests. So sorry I don't remember her name. My only issue is that my meal was pretty burned. I ordered one of those skillet scrambles that come with the spuds and eggs and a meat or veggie protein. I was starving so I started plowing through my food and as I swallowed thinking that it didn't really taste that great but I was hungry. I got the rest to go and when I got home and the excitement from graduation had worn off, I opened the box and saw how burned the potatoes were; not scorched but burned. It was by far the worst I have ever gotten here. But I will definitely be back and overall this is a great spot. I just got the bottom of the barrel for breakfast this day.

We had to make a decision quickly when we were pivoting, and when we came across the great reviews and photos of the food. we didn't think twice about checking to see if we could make it happen. When we arrived, the staff was already preparing our table, so we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. The space is pretty tight, and you're going to be close to the tables near you, but we were able to sit comfortably. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders, and afterward she came back to answer any questions. Most of the food was ready at the same time. We appreciated that it came out as it was ready and wasn't left sitting. And everyone enjoyed the food! The only "complaint" one of my friends had was that she thought there was a little too much sauce in her shrimp and grits dish. She felt that the sauce, while it tasted great, overpowered the dish and she would've liked to taste more of the grits flavor. All in all, I'd say we'll likely be back to try something else on the menu.

That said, the aesthetic feels less Buckingham Palace and more whimsical London antique shop -- charming & eclectic. I ordered the blueberry lavender matcha and a breakfast plate. The menu names were definitely on brand, but not quite catchy enough for me to remember them later. Both were solid, though, and hit the spot. Service was a highlight. The cashier really leaned into the accent and took the time to thoroughly explain the menu, which made the whole experience feel more immersive and welcoming. Parking was easy on an early weekday afternoon -- always a win. The space works well for small parties, but be prepared: tables are small and seating is close together. One tip: avoid sitting upstairs in Eden. It's noticeably warmer than the rest of the restaurant, and you'll likely leave smelling like breakfast. Overall, a fun, themed spot with great service. But I don't think I'll be back.

Seating is casual - find a spot to sit and then order from the digital menu at the door. Orders are taken at the counter but entrees and drinks are brought to your table. The owner Josh was extremely accommodating! He gave us some tastings of coffee, tea and the French toast. 10/10! I personally ordered the Blueberry Matcha and a Bowl (done keto). Everyone's meal looked amazing and not a crumb was left. We left with some of the canned whiskey drinks - Strawberry Whiskey Sour and Kentucky Mule made with bourbon. Josh said best enjoyed mixed together! The photo opps, food, drinks and aesthetics are so good here. Only comment is that the tables are pub or cafe style and best for small groups or just takeover a section like we did. Enjoy!

One thing I really loved was the photo booth outside in the parking garage--it was such a fun touch and made the visit even more memorable. The only downside was the parking. Unless you're lucky enough to find street parking, you'll have to park in the garage, which wasn't my favorite. Other than that, everything was great. The bartender was incredibly kind and patient, especially since I'm very picky about drinks. She helped me choose one that I ended up loving. The atmosphere inside was also really nice, with a fun and welcoming vibe. I'd definitely come back!

SUPER unimpressed with my visit here…read more Based on the decor, especially the photo area in the parking deck and the fake flower arch outside, my first impression was that this was going to be a "TikTok trap": a restaurant focused more on aesthetics than food or service. Unfortunately, that impression ended up being accurate. It took forever for our food to come out. The parties around us were clearly frustrated as well. I watched one table become visibly irritated, while another guest stopped a server to ask if the food being carried out was theirs because they had apparently been waiting over an hour. As the wait dragged on, I started paying closer attention to the decor, which I personally found tacky and gimmicky, especially the fake greenery hanging across the ceiling. The fried green tomatoes and sweet heat wings were really good, and I started to rethink my initial assessment of the restaurant. Everything went downhill from there. My "Rich Boy" sandwich itself was good, but it came with completely unseasoned fries. When I mentioned that I was supposed to have the "Rolex" fries, the server told me the plain fries were what I got. After clarifying with another server, they brought out the actual "Rolex" fries, which appeared to just be fries with a little parmesan and parsley on top. Supposedly they were truffle fries, but there wasn't even a hint of truffle flavor. My partner ordered the veggie sausage, which was overcooked and dry. Their eggs came out over easy instead of over medium, and the "signature grits" were more like cream cheese with a little bit of grits mixed in. We were told more grits would be brought out, but they never came. Another person in my party ordered the Southern seafood pasta, which had literally one piece of spinach in it. When she asked about it, the server responded that there was "more spinach coming." At that point, it became clear that Barney's is selling the illusion of luxury in order to justify premium prices for subpar food and service. It really was a TikTok trap after all. To make matters worse, when the check came, we were charged an additional $1.50 for eggs that already came with the meal. The explanation was that the eggs "came from the shell." Others in my party were also charged extra for liquor on top of the listed menu price for their drinks. Overall, I absolutely did not enjoy my experience here, and I will not be returning. Oh, and that other party that was visibly irritated with the wait had to wait even longer because there was a hair in their food.
