I tease my husband asking why he likes these subs. But Now I get it. Thundercloud is consistent from establishment to establishment- they have a specific savoriness unique to only their subs, from the way they shred their lettuce to the sort of "biker bro" nonchalance of the staff. People come for the subs AND the unpretentious vibe.

Well if you and your family are hungry and you're trying to be gluten free this is a great place for lunch. The staff was friendly. Cool art on the walls and welcoming. The sandwiches took a little bit, but they were good. The kids enjoyed the ham and Turkey sandwiches. I enjoyed my Italian on gf bread and it was great. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather too. Great stop for a family lunch or during work.

I used to rave about your sandwiches but you guys are oputting less and less on each sub and chargong 7.00 a sub with tax. That is some expensive bread and I am lucky if I get 3 olives and very little sprouts on my sandwich, sand you charge me extra for these toppings.

This sandwich is a vibe! The special sauce the offer really sets it apart. It almost takes like a thousand island/chipotle mayo. I got the turkey sandwich on wheat with provolone cheese and added jalapeños, including all the fixings. A little bready for a wheat (hard not to be, I know), but loved the rest! Also - they only serve Pepsi products. Turkey Sandwich

How in the hell do you run out of the meat that you are running the specials. Aren't you suppose to order more when you are running the specials. The tables are dirty and the floor is sticky. Dam I mean this is bad for even for a fast food place. The employees are so busy smiling and talking among themselves, they ignore the customers completely. I mean My sandwich is ok, but my god how about some service or better yet how about not running out of the special when you are running them. Came in here with high expectations, leave with disappointments,

I guess this is one of those instances where the phrase "your mileage may vary" comes into play. Seems like I've been spending lots of time lately in various Thundercloud locations, and I'm happy to say that while this location isn't my absolute fave, I've eaten here enough to pass on what for me has been a predominantly happy vibe. Agreed that there are pseudo-emo staff at these places, but seems like I usually end up with nice ones; the dude that made my sandwich today was extra friendly, almost perky, even, which you might think would conflict with the Emo Credo. The guy actually made my day a little bit better. Case in point, the barrell-chested cowboy next to me was loudly talking on his Yugo-sized cellphone without a care in the world: holding up his sandwich maker, the people in line behind him and so on. And when my phone rang, it didn't occur to me at the time that what the cowboy was doing was an imposition...I was focused on my sandwich. So I asked the caller to call me back. It went a little like this: - Scene Opens - (Crowded restaurant. Long queue of potential diners patiently wait. Team of four or so sandwich makers bustle about. A giant cowboy yammers away on his cell phone from the year 1992. The place is bustling, slightly uncomfortable. Cowboy is jamming up the juju.) THUNDERCLOUD GUY: Hey there, man! What can I get you? KEVIN: I'll have a large turkey sandwich. THUNDERCLOUD GUY: Awesome. (making sandwich) KEVIN'S Phone rings. KEVIN: (answering quickly) Hey, I'm in line at Thundercloud, can I call you back? THUNDERCLOUD GUY: Dude, you are AWESOME. (Glares at cowboy) Not everyone is like that. KEVIN: That's how "accidents" happen. THUNDERCLOUD GUY: That's how "incidents" happen. - End Scene - For the record, my sandwich was groovy.

I've been really disappointed with thundercloud lately...not just one, but several of the locations have seemed to go downhill in food quality and service. I was pleasantly surprised by this one though. We happened to be in the area, and wanted something cheap but healthy. Considering the other nearby choices were a mcdonalds, a pizza place, or a donut place, we opted for thundercloud. The guy making our sandwich was super nice. Amazing what a remarkable difference just that one thing can make! We tried the weekly special, the texas tuna, even though I'm not much of a tuna lover. But alas, he really wanted it so I said "what the hell, we're already at a sandwich place I've started to hate, why not?" I was surprised for the second time when it was actually pretty good! Not terribly fishy, and the jalapenos they put on there seemed to counteract the blandness. Plus there was lots of thunder sauce and black pepper...yum! Definitely try this place over the other one on burnet...and possibly the rest of the locations in austin!

I definitely wasn't disappointed by the experience. This location is a bit rough looking, but it's overflowing with character. The staff were friendly, though maybe a bit...forgetful? Nevertheless, they were amiable and humorous. The veggie sandwich wasn't particularly memorable, but it was decent and inexpensive. The environment is incredibly relaxed, and overall I'm happy to have experienced this Austin classic.

The Burnet road location near Anderson lane is my fave. Always solid. The Italian rocks, and the green chile corn soup is great.

For $7 I'd rather get 2-3 decent sized homemade ones. The side of hummus was literally a small ramekin that salad dressing usually comes in and was $1.50. The flavor was decent but a little chunky compared to what I'm used to elsewhere. The cheesy garlic bread was pretty good. I feel like it could improve with packaging that doesn't steam it during transport though (wrapped in sandwich paper and then foil). Perhaps a box or styrofoam container that can vent would help it be less chewy and retain some crispness? The marinara has good flavor but was super watery, not sure if that's the usual since this is my first time having Cheba Hut. I'll likely try this place again but a sandwich next time, since other people's pics looks yummy.

After saying "we need to go there" at least 30 times, we finally went there and boyyy howdy it did not disappoint! The Cuban and club were 10/10 perfect! The bread was so fresh, crispy where it needed to be, and buttery in all the right places. It was a perfectly balanced sandwich ratio, not too thick, not too thin, and came with chips or potato salad. The in-house beer is great, and there's something for anyone's tastes, plus non alcoholic options. We sat outside with our pups on the dog friendly patio, which is fully covered and shaded, with tons of great seating options. I recommend going into the shop and seeing every thing they have to offer that isn't listed on the menu, plus the GREAT beer tap and can selections they have in store!

The parking is shared and gets packed in the evening or you have to pay to park if you are unable to find anything in the lot or on the street. Handsome Dans has a sign directing you to the back where they are located. The vibe is true to a bait shop/diner it's casual with a rustic feel, they have a large covered patio adjacent to Stargazer bar. I highly suggest sitting outside if possible because the inside does get a bit claustrophobic and smokey when it's packed and they are smashing paninis on the press with no proper kitchen overhead vents. The type of greasy smoke you get when you are making super buttery sandwiches on a hot press. The sandwiches are ok but not something I would go out of my way to have ,our kids liked the hotdogs and Frito pies which were also kind of "upper class" gas station quality. Most of the stuff here is food that probably tastes way better after drinking several beers. It's like any normal sandwich you could make at home and toss in a panini press to be honest. Really good beers on tap and friendly staff who seemed to disappear to the back quite a bit and came back confused. They didn't know if they had already given me my food because I was ordering and paying for extra food after more people in our party arrived. They literally saw my food I already had on the table from my previous order and thought they gave me double of what I ordered hahaha. I can't make a judgment because I have no clue what they kept dispersing to the back for but can just say the confusion was real, LOL. All together if I had to come back it be because someone I knew wanted to try it. Otherwise for me it's a one and done. I got the pictures I stood next to a sign ,I had the Signiture sandwiches, now I'm moving on. I can say I've been there done that. I'm guessing that a college crowd or just being a single person who just wants to be amongst people that this is the type of lowkey place to go if you're not into the typical Longhorn hangouts. You stop in ,have some beers, eat a low budget ingredient expensive panini sandwich and chill till you have to call yourself a Waymo cause the beer is good and strong.

Back then, Austin needed a bakery so badly that easy tiger was a standout savior. Fresh bread (still great today!) and pastries were so welcome. At some point after Covid, quality started slipping. Pastries weren't changing. The croissants were soft with no crunch. The chicken schnitzel which is used to be thin had turn into a thick blob basically a giant chicken nugget. The pretzels I always loved tasted stale like they baked them and left them sitting under heat lamps for hours. Sandwiches tasted noticeably worse. Still, we continued to come here. And then they were sold in the last year. New owners and what's the first thing they do? Fix issues? No that would be hard. They raised prices. A LOT. Coffees cost more than anywhere else in the area. Lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids meal hits $90 with zero leftovers. Every time I come here I feel so squeezed and it's never worth it. So this is it. After 7 years I'm through. The place has so much potential but whatever is happening here I cannot support. There are far better bakeries (looking at you sugarwolf) and far better coffee places (literally dozens). Here is to hoping for a turnaround.
