I don't really eat here but my girlfriend and I came to try it out on their $1 a sub promotion. I got the Vito and she got the Pepe. In a world where everything is pretty salty/sugary, I appreciated the freshness of the Vito, and how the simple ingredients all played a part. It wasn't over flavored. But it wasn't bland either. This is my first time coming to a Jimmy John's and I was not at all disappointed. They don't offer toasted sandwiches which kinda sucked but the ingredients tasted fresh and light on my stomach. I've been to this Jimmy John's a couple times and there is not much wrong with the store here, but there isn't anything really stellar about it either. They serve your typical sandwiches as other Jimmy John's, my favorite is the Ultimate Porker with chips (same cost as a gargantuan). The staff is really friendly and the only bad thing about the place is the location and seating area inside. There isnt much seating but there usually is no one inside anyway. I've ordered from here a bunch recently, and the orders always arrive super fast. Always super tasty, always hits the spot. Also, the portions are great: at most places, if I ask for "extra" something, the sandwich ends up drowning in it. This place understands the difference between light, regular, and extra portions, and they never under- or overdo it. This one is a little thing, but I like that their drinks come in bottles, so there's no chance of them spilling during delivery. I've been a huge Jimmy John's for many years now, dating back to my MI days. When I got to Austin in '99 I was disappinted to see that there was only ONE Jimmy's here at the time (this location), however, I'm glad to see they have expanded operations into several stores. The key to Jimmy's sandwiches is their bread - it's awesome. You can even buy day old bread for $0.75 a loaf (and it's still good). My favs are the #12 Beach Club (Turkey, sprouts, guacamole), #9 Italian Night Club (genoa salami, italian capicola, smoked ham), and #7 Gormet Smoked Ham (applewood smoked ham & cheese). When it comes to subs, Jimmy's is one of my favorites in town. You don't always get great service there, especially at this location where it's right in the middle of UT and usually employs a younger crowd, but the food prep area is right there in front of your face so you can keep an eye on quality control if need be. Like I said - the bread is awesome and it's why I love JJ's so much, but only 4 stars here buddy! This location is also open extremely late - - I believe 1am or even 3am on weekends! read more

The employee who made my sandwich was very upset at the fact that I complained and kept insisting I was wrong. He made it seem like I was dumb enough to think he'd actually put meat in a veggie club and didn't let the other employee make me a new sandwich until I proved there was something wrong with it. Quick delivery and open late is a plus for students. One star because there is HAIR in their sandwiches. Think twice about what you eat from there. They obviously aren't paying attention to food prep. The hair was so long it didn't even budge when I tried to pull it out because it was so well wrapped into the sandwich...puke. Took much longer than usual, the delivery guy tried to come into the building, balked at there being no tip (there was one, I always add it to my card) and then when I sat down to eat, I have the wrong cookie AND the wrong chips. Super friendly staff at this convenient location right off the UT campus in Austin! The sandwich creation time was quicker than average and there was a TON of seating at the restaurant. Ever notice how those Jimmy John commercials have become increasingly disturbing, what with gang members and SWAT team bomb disarming and all? Clearly, though, they work. After I'd parted ways with some clients the other evening, I found myself in my old 'hood when I used to work for my West Campus broker. I was tired. I was hungry. I had to pee. Jimmy John's seemed like a logical choice for a pit stop. It had just gotten dark and I parked on the side. I walked in, and the girl behind the counter looked utterly exhausted, but she smiled and I was welcomed warmly. I don't know why I bothered to look at the giant menu on the wall, I knew what I wanted: #12 BEACH CLUB® (Fresh baked turkey breast, provolone cheese, avocado spread, sliced cucumber, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and mayo! "It's the real deal, and it ain't even California.", they proclaim proudly. I usually eschew white bread, but the French bread bullet subs they use are just too irresistible. I'm a little disappointed, and more than a bit surprised, that they do not have a suitable wheat version; ordering on wheat gets you thick sandwich-style bread that's nothing like the original subs. But that's just me being a nit-picker; I freaking love the white bread. When I ordered, I made sure to request no cucumbers. As I was sauntering away, I heard her tell her equally exhausted looking co-worker: "#12, no cukes", but what I heard at first was "#12, no pubes." Well...I don't want those either, actually... My sandwich was ready in the blink of an eye, and I took my seat at a tall table by the bulletin board. My fellow diners included a common UT hipster and a woman with her child. Nobody too interesting. As I ravenously devoured my sub, I scanned the room and realized this was the first time I'd ever eaten inside of a Jimmy John's. First thing I noticed was the place was plastered with signage of a meaty, well-loaded sub with the ludicrous question "Is it blasphemous to worship a sandwich?" Now, I don't recall Moses losing his mind over the Israelites worshiping a golden Jimmy John's sandwich, or the Sanhedrin accusing Our Lord of blasphemy for bowing down before a Beach Club sub, but the short answer is yes; yes, it *is* blasphemous to worship a sandwich. Bring it down a notch. For some reason, they had Warren Buffet's 10 Tips to Success or what-not on the wall next to me. I can only remember #5--"Watch Small Expenses: Exercising vigilance over every expense can make your profits--and your paycheck--go much further." Crap. I already broke that one by ordering the $5.95 sandwich. The bulletin board had the usual campus hippie announcements, but the only one that stood out was "Free Julian Assange!". Who, me? Like, when--now?! How would I go about this? Please explain how I can parlay this bodacious California sandwich into a weapon of freedom for a guy halfway around the world who's wanted by most of the world's governments, and would probably reveal my deepest, darkest, most depraved secrets just for Shits & Grins? I'm tired, girl, I can't get into any political crap now...especially at a Jimmy John's. I just want to eat my sub. Let Julian handle his own business. I kinda wish the guacamole was more on the "fresh cut avocado" side, and less on the "squeezed out of a bottle" side. But this is a minor quibble. As I was crumpling up my trash, my friend behind the counter asked if I was coming back later that night at 11. At first, I thought this was a clumsy, misguided come-on from a straight girl, and only after she saw the confused/horrified look on my face did she complete her thought and graciously inform me that it was $1 sub night around that time. I can't be entirely sure, but I believe this was a Thursday. While the price was enticing, I don't see why I would need another sub in five hours from the same establishment unless I lived across the street and was stoned out of my mind. Just the one will do, thanks. I'm not going to start building an altar or sacrificing animals to their sandwiches, so they'll have to settle for me giving them 4 stars. That way, Jimmy John's gets another good review, and I have one *less* reason to be sent wailing loudly into the fiery pits of hell. So, it's a win-win. read more

Absolutely the best sandwich I have ever had. I don't know why either. The sandwiches are very simple, White French Bread or Thick Wheat Loaf, lots of mayo, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and occasionally some avocado or banana peppers. Seems easy enough. But like Superman with his kryptonite; get one of these sandwiches around me and I get weak in the knees, lose all motor function, drool like a baby then devour the whole thing.
