One of the reasons I keep coming back (beyond the incredible gift selection and stylish, inclusive clothing) is because of the owner. She's owned this family-run business for over twenty years, and you can feel the love and intention behind everything in the store. She's one of the kindest, most humble people I've ever met, and every interaction with her reminds me why supporting small businesses matters so much. What really blows me away is that she always remembers me. Every time I walk in whether it's been a month or six she greets me by name and asks about my family. She remembers the little things: that my best friend I normally shop with here got engaged, that my dad fell ill last year, even what kinds of gifts I usually gravitate toward. It's such a rare and genuine connection, and it makes shopping there feel personal in a way that big stores could never replicate. Beyond the amazing people, the store itself is beautifully curated. You can find gifts for everyone !! From toddlers to grandparents, quirky coworkers to stylish best friends. Every item feels handpicked, and the range is both thoughtful and playful: hilarious greeting cards, cozy home goods, funky socks, beautiful clothes in all sizes, and unique accessories you won't find anywhere else. A careful walk through the store reminded me of the legendary Wilkes Bashford on Sutter Street, back in the 1980s. Like the original Wilkes, Button Down offers beautiful Italian and European styles, along with famous brands and their own private label. They also carry luxurious accessories for men and women. Greg, who had also worked at Wilkes in its heyday, helped me put together an entire ensemble. It was like a trip back in time, with the same quality, personal attention and service that is nearly impossible to find anymore. Button Down is located on Sacramento Street in Presidio Heights, and it is well worth the visit.

While the boutique has an emphasis on Hello Kitty products (including clothes, undies, and the usual store you'd see at a Sanrio store), they also carry a variety of young women's clothing. I wasn't too familar with many of the clothing brands but I imagine its similar to the brands sold at other Haight St stores like XGeneration. The prices are also not too pricey. I also got to chat briefly with Sarah (who Im assuming is the owner) who is very cute and friendly! We we talking about Hello Kitty most of the time but she definitely has love for her boutique. While leaving the store I also noticed that they carry a small collection of Harajuku lovers up at the register. The material is thick, warm, and absolutely worth the price. It feels well made and durable, and I can already tell this is something I'll be wearing for years.
