Well, it's Doc Martin, if you love them, this place is heaven. Many of the customers walking in were wearing their Dr. Martins, looking for another pair. I had a great experience, a super friendly & quite knowledgeable sales person was very patient as I tried on shoe after shoe, and probably bored her with tales of my hard to fit feet. Like how many times a day do they hear that? They even showed me a photo of their 4 year old pair of Chelsea boots to prove they do break in. I just wasn't convinced these obviously well made fashion statements were for me. So much work to break in, so much pain. Why do they have to be so uncomfortable? I couldn't get one pair off my feet! So I walked out, went a block, turned around, went back in & bought the Chelsea boots. A thousand pair walking down Haight Street can't be wrong. I wore them around the house, slathered the inside with conditioner to soften, bought thick socks to hopefully stretch the leather a bit.... Then boldly stepped outside on day 3. Walked about a mile, hey, not bad! Alas, I started to limp the last few blocks as a big sore was developing on my heel. Four bandages later I'm wearing them again for short distances. My feet feel like I've been through a major trek through the wilderness. I've worn them outside, so they're not being returned. After all this effort I cling to hope that this will all be worth it, and the next pair of shoes I'm wearing is slippers. read more

I'd bought a pair of boots online which are unisex and not available in the store. They were not the right size and I wasn't sure which would fit so I called ahead explained my predicament and asked if I could come in on to try on in the shop. Heidi the manager was super helpful and nice (and had a similar pair to the ones I'd bought!). She helped me find the correct size (I returned and repurchased the correct size at their online). Value, the price is a little high compared to online but they have to cover cost for brick and motor some how and you get to try the product on before you buy so no need to ship back 5 time looking for the right fit. I have never received as good of service picking out a pair of boots or shoes as I did here. I'm a seasoned Doc wearer so I went in already pretty much knowing what I was looking for, but Tait, the gentleman working, was incredibly helpful with even the smallest concerns I had in regards to sizing, comfort, and past experiences of pain with the breaking in period (worth it), he addressed them all and had a possible solution for every concern my wife and I had to bring up. What could have been a quick thing turned into a longer boot selecting experience, but I do mean that in a good way with the exemplary service I received. Have always gotten them through other dealers like Robert Wayne and whatnot, but I'm glad I made the trip out to haight street to go to the actual doc store, it was a great experience all around. 5 stars well deserved. read more

Why are all of the sales reps in Haight so snobby? You're in customer service. If you don't like dealing with customers/ people find a different job. Usually I've had good experiences coming into this store until i came in a couple weeks ago- I've been meaning to make this post. One of the young ladies that was helping was incredibly rude and sarcastic toward me. I even saw her roll her eyes about me to someone else just because I wanted to check a few other stores before buying that pair. I was actually quite surprised at how good the visual merchandising was in this store. It kind of reminds me of a Ben Sherman aesthetic, back when they cared about holding onto some of their earlier roots. As for the product itself, it is what it is. If you've ever had a pair of doc martens, you know what you're getting into. The quality has certainly gone down since they moved their factories overseas, but fortunately they now have a made in england series that's a lot truer to the originals. And most importantly, to me, they carry a small vegan line too. Having now seen it in person, I'm pretty impressed with the quality. However, it's a big bummer that the "cherry red" variety looks nothing like the leather version of "cherry red". Hopefully they'll figure that out down the line, and maybe expand the vegan line even more. read more

I've been shopping At the Doc store on Haight because of the great selections and customer service, especially from Jesse and Jewel. Jesse was so accommodating and really went an extra step beyond to give me good customer service. I love my shoes. They open the store at 10am on Fridays and I love the old classic photos on the wall of the London punks in the late 70s and the vintage ox blood sofas and chairs. Please don't change the decor style and make it modern. The past is what made Dr. Martens shoes what is it today. They also have great and beautiful leather bags, brief cases and wallets. read more

The service here has always been pleasant and very knowledgable when purchasing. Though I have plenty of shoes and boots I was enticed by the large sale signs in the window. I go in and am greeted kindly and was helped quickly though there were a lot of people. Why the one star? The girl who was helping me was either mocking me or trying way far too hard as she began talking to me with an accent when she noticed mine! I had not noticed it when she said hi to me and started paying attention to how she was speaking to others as she turned it on and off just for myself. I asked her about it as she told me she had lived in England before for a brief time, my husband lived in England for 6 years and he didn't even pick up the slang let alone a full blown accent! I was so disgusted I left without even thanking her. Nothing makes you feel like someone will do anything to get you to make a purchase than butchering the queens English; I couldn't trust her after that. Today I went in store to buy my first pair of docs and I had a pretty awful experience. Looking at all the other reviews that people gave maybe I just got someone that was hangry since she mentioned that after she helped me she was going to take her lunch. She is the main purpose why I'm giving 2 stars. I'm pretty excited about the the shoes that I got and can't wait to try them with different outfits. Any who, on to why the 2 stars. The gal got my shoe size, but holy god did they hurt! My toes felt they were scrunched, but she told me that after breaking them in it will stretch out to be a size and half bigger. She's the expert, but after walking in the a bit I really just wanted to try the next size just to be sure. She was right the next size was too big. So I bought the smaller one. When she proceeded to ring me up the shoe came out to $179.95. I thought to myself wait, I just bought it online for $170 so I asked her why they were more expensive than the ones I bought online. She then asked me why I was in there then. Excuse me??? Is it wrong to come into a store?? I told her it's because I wanted to try them on and thank god I did because I got them too big. She then told me that they have a price guarantee and no other retailer is allowed to sell it for more or less. I told her that I bought it from online for that price, but she didn't believe me. She then asked me if the site was real and maybe that's why it was cheaper. She then told me some story that they were $170 a couple of months ago and they raised the price. I told her I bought it from the actual Dr.Martens website yesterday and showed her my order confirmation. Girl still didn't believe me so she said let me check online. Sure enough $170 online!!!! At that point I was pretty irritated. She called out to her co-worker and told her they were ringing up differently. The other girl comes and looks at the price and says well we have to call headquarters and let them know because their online price is wrong. So the girl price matches it and says thanks for my patience. No admittance of being wrong or some type of sorry after all that, but that's when I heard "I'm going to take my lunch after this."
