I do prefer mine more juicy; should have asked them to put in some pico! There was a little wait as they seem to make them fresh to order. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I've been here many times and have always thoroughly satisfied my appetite. I always get their chicken quesadilla with guacamole. Soo delicious. Pro tip: don't forget to get some of their spicy sauce. Their food truck is located right across the Whole Foods parking lot entrance. They get pretty busy because they're so popular so I recommend you call in your order ahead of time. Thyda's is so ono! Hands down the best burritos on the island. It's fully loaded with ingredients, it's the way a burrito should be made but we don't often see it loaded at other establishments. Swung by to pick up lunch. There was 4 people in front of me that had already ordered and got their food pretty quickly. I knew I wanted a burrito but with the 6 choices of proteins, I was having a hard time picking. The owner, I assume, asked if I had any questions with a huge smile. I let him know I was torn on the carne asada, barbacoa or lengua. He took the time to explain each of them. Even offered that I could choose multiple meats if I couldn't decide on one. He said his favorite was the barbacoa, super tender and moist how it's cooked. I was sold. Order was ready in less than 5 minutes. Oh my gosh, the burrito was a piece of heaven on earth. I ate the whole thing in like 5 minutes it was so good! They have home made hot sauces right outside for you to serve yourself. Highly recommend! I've seen nicer prices for tacos in this size, but having barbacoa tacos in the menu and the amazingly hard work we witnessed totally made up for it. What day is it? Why, it's Tuesday so that means...TACOS! Actually, any day is a good day for Mexican street food especially when it's authentic, flavorful, portioned well and priced for a good value in Hawai'i. Yes, folks, O'ahu doesn't have very many options for Mexican food and no, I don't count that fast food chain as an option. We're usually in this neighborhood and have passed by Thyda's (pronounced "tee-dah") Tacos frequently as we'd eye-out the lines of people (mainly construction workers from Ward Village projects and some workers) wrapped around this food trailer/truck. So, today, we had planned on watching a movie at nearby Consolidated Theaters and having lunch either before or after. Located on Queen Street near the corner of Kamake'e Street but directly across from the parking entrance of Whole Foods Market, you might find a few free on-street parking spaces right next to Thyda's Tacos. I think you might also be able to temporarily park at the nearby business. We chose to park in the movie theaters' parking structure and walked only a few hundred feet over to Thyda's. We got in line and perused the Taco Tuesday menu and placed our order for 2 carnitas and 2 lengua (beef tongue) tacos. We also got a bottle of water to share. Our total bill only came up to $10! Being that Thyda's is a food trailer/truck, there isn't a dining area. Take-out or to-go are the best options. Thoughts about "smuggling" our lunch into the theater crossed our minds but we just walked into Whole Food Market and dined in air-conditioned comfort. The tacos were street taco size (about 4") so don't be expecting a larger size. For us, having eaten at Los Angeles' Guisado's, ¡Lotería! and many other Mexican restaurants, we expected the street size and they're the perfect bite without going into food coma. The carnitas and and lengua fillings were flavorful, juicy and tender. However, I wished there had been just a tad bit more filling. At the order/pick up counter, there were 3 house made hot sauces (orange = extra hot & spicy, reddish/brown = smoky and medium spicy and green = mild with a low spice level). Also, you can choose commercially available hot sauces such as Tapatío or Valentina. Service was very engaging, friendly and fast. We waited for about 5 to 7 minutes before our order came up even though there were 4 customers ahead of us. Thyda's packaged our tacos on to 2 separate plates that were sealed with aluminum foil. My favorite Mexican food in town so far. I love the vibe of the place and the guy who runs it is very nice. The parking situation isn't amazing, but if u really want to you can always park at ward and walk over. A nice little pup came by and was strolling around. So happy to have finally found a good taco spot in town! I've been meaning to try this place for probably a few years now. The lack of easy parking always held me back. This time I decided to park in the Whole Foods parking lot and walk over. I called in my order when I parked,then walked over and only waited a few minutes for my order after paying. Easy enough! I tried the carne asada, carnitas, and barbacoa tacos. I loved the flavor of the barbacoa and carne asada the most. I'm really picky about tacos and prefer them street style and with doubled up tortillas. This place checks all the boxes, plus they had a good house salsa. Craving street tacos? Get your okole over to Queen St across from the new Whole Foods. This little food truck has been there for almost a year and it puts out some amazing street tacos. Next best thing to being in Ensenada Mexico. You can tell when a flat grill has been seasoned from the depth of flavor in the food. I've haven't seen Barbacoa Tacos ( beef cheeks) before and it did not disappoint. The Carnitas (pork) and Pollo ( chicken ) tacos were equally as delicious. Got 3 tacos and a bag of chips & salsa for $11. They make to order so expect to wait 5-7 minutes but it's totally worth it. Go get some before they open a brick and mortar store and raise the prices. Small location with difficult parking.... But absolutely worth it. Best burritos we have had on island in the last 6 years, would give SoCal a run for its money. The jackfruit and pollo were insanely fresh with amazing flavor and FAT. The bag felt like it weighed 2 lbs when I picked it up. Food was good and healthy. It was a good sized portion. I tried the jackfruit bowl. There were a lot of onions for my taste but you can probably ask for less onions if you don't want too much. I kind of get it. THE OWNER is AMAZING. . . As I sat and watched construction workers walking over from the Whole Foods site, he knew all of them BY NAME and their usual order. Super impressed! THERE WAS FRIED CHEESE in the bottom of burrito. And it was pressed to create a crunchy tortilla. Why can't everyone press the burrito?! Just as I was about to write this place off... the bottom of my burrito happened and it was glorious. For those two reasons I will return because maybe I didn't order the right thing or maybe because it was Cinco De Mayo and they were skimping on protein to be sure they had enough. What I don't get: * Jack fruit- was there even Jackfruit in my mulita (son of the taco and quesadilla)? There were more onions than jack fruit and I couldn't even taste the flavor. Again I could be wrong but check out the photos and help me to identify the jack fruit... flavor- none. * Salsa= water. * Carne pollo- I am extremely picky about my chicken and I had at least two weird bites- chewy weird cartilage. Best Mexican food I've had in Hawaii! As well as being in the top 3 best Mexican places I've ever been to. Unique little place with its wide variety of stickers all over the truck. Staff are pretty cool, and give off a vibe that they've been doing this a long time, so they really know their stuff. They also clearly have a rapport with their customers since every time I've gone there they talk to some customers as if they are friends. As for the food... delicious. I've gotten the carnitas and barbacoa burritos, my partner has gotten tacos and mulitas. All delicious, savory, and very satisfying. The pico de gallo accompanying the nachos is very tasty. They also have a nice selection hot sauces, from mild to hot. I look forward to coming back here once we return to Hawaii! read more

I was on my way to a different place for lunch and drove by Thydas's. All of a sudden tacos sounded like the better option and so I did a u-turn. I ordered a carnitas taco and then they told me about the mulitas which I've never had. They made it sounded good and glad I ordered two because they were incredible! A mulitas is described as a quesadilla but amped up. It was so good that it's my new go to dish. For lunch, I two mulitas and one taco was the perfect amount of food. My wife wanted to get some Mexican food, and we wanted to support a local business during these tough times, so we were happy to find Thyda's on Yelp. Plus it's down the street from where we live, so we had to try it. Our experience didn't start out well. My wife called in our order, and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. When I got there, they said they were working on it. It's a tiny kiosk, kind of like a food truck, with 2 people working in there. I waited and waited, and it was finally ready after another 23 minutes. I don't understand why they didn't tell us 30-40 minutes instead of 15. They seemed to do a better job with other customers after me, telling them there's a wait and to come back after shopping at Whole Foods. When we got the food home and tried it, all was forgiven. Wow! We got the Barbacoa Burrito and quesadillas, which they recommended, and they were amazing! We also wanted to try a pork taco, but that wasn't nearly as good. It was well worth the wait. The food was better than any other Mexican food we've had in Hawaii. They were very friendly, and despite the misstep on the timing, we'll be back. It's so hard to find a good taco truck here in Hawaii. This is as close as it'll get to taco trucks in CA as this is a taco stand. It's located in front of Tint Shop Hawaii (colorful stand). After seeing some people check in at Thyda's Tacos, I had to bookmark them. Since I've found them on Queen St, I haven't had any luck in trying to sample their tacos when I stopped by. Literally tried like multiple times to sample their tacos. Finally I got to sample their tacos on 12/14/17! I only had time and room in my stomach for two tacos so I ordered my go to tacos (Carne Asada and Legua). It came out wrapped up for take out shortly after I ordered. There were three hot sauces you could add to compliment your meal (mild, a smoky hot sauce and their spicy hot sauce). My favorite after trying the smoky and spicy hot sauce was the smoky flavor. Tacos were good and customer service was very friendly. Definitely a spot I could see myself going back to. read more

I don't know why it's taken me this long to write a review, but Thyda's is, hands down, our FAVORITE place for tacos and burritos. The flavors are out of this world and you will NOT find mediocrity here. Also of note are their salsas. They have mild (I think), medium, and hot, and their hot is actually HOT. Score!! I hate it when I want a spicy salsa and there's no heat, but Thyda's BRINGS THE HEAT!! Honestly, the tacos and burritos are amazing and we've always mopped the plate when ordering from here. The parking is terribly small (only a couple stalls) BUT THE FOOD IS WORTH IT. Trust me. They do also take phone orders, so if you're in a rush, that would be a good option. Prices are more than reasonable and their portions are good. If I'm kinda hungry, I can usually eat 3 tacos and be content. The burritos are large and filling.
