Tuesdays are the best deal. $2 for pollo or carnitas tacos. $2.50 for asada, barbacoa, jackfuit, or lengua tacos. All are amazing. Try one of each if you got a big stomach. And don't forget to add some of their salsas. They have three of their house made salsas to choose from: mild, smokey medium, and habanero hot! They also have burritos, quesadillas, rice bowls and mulitas. Everything is amazing here. They don't make it till you order, so place a phone order if you plan on grabbing food for lunch. Line and wait time can get kinda long. They have a low bench for you to sit at to enjoy your food, or u can take it to go. I work nearby and one day I forgot my wallet, but was able to scrounge up $3.75 in change from the floor of my car. Around here, there isn't much you can buy with that, but at Thyda's you can get tacos for really cheap. Went there, and was really impressed. They shove a lot of people in that little box, which is good I guess. They also give you lots of food, which is definitely good. Very impressed with them, and it's really nice that they provide cheap tacos to all the bros in the area. I heard they getting extorted by those Chun bros tho, and gotta pay $$$s or else no more tacos which seems pretty sad. Make sure to go on tuesdays because it's taco Tuesday people! read more

It was taco Tuesday, and after seeing lylas review and pictures of Thyda's, I knew I had to go. I do miss the taco truck that would open nightly by my old apartment in Queens. So I was pretty excited for some authentic grinds. Since it was Tuesday the prices for tacos ranged from 2 bucks to 2.50 dependent on the type of meat. I opted for one carnitas, pollo and asada. It was placed on small tortillas that I was used to so size was not an issue for me. My first bite of the chicken(pollo) was delightful. The squeeze of lemon, onion, and cilantro married very well with the tender pieces of chicken. I felt the same with the pork(carnitas). They both were incredibly flavorful. As for the grilled steak(asada) it was a bit tough to chew and swallow. The homemade hot salsas to dress the tacos were genius. I love spice so I chose the red which my stomach did not regret. Wow! So being in Hawaii, I miss eating Chipotle and Qdoba. I've tried other places that have the big burritos but doesn't compare. Well Thyda's comes pretty close! It's a small little wagon located on Queen Street right across from Whole Foods. If you're not looking good or take your eye off the street, you might miss it. Parking is challenging here. I think they have one small stall right after the wagon. I actually parked at a furniture store right before Thyda's which I could've got towed. So I got a carnitas burrito...my favorite meat! It also has beans (pinto or black), choice of salsa, sour cream and veggies. You can also get verde or rojo sauce to also pour on after each bite. I suggest you try both as they have different flavors which really enhances the burrito. Oh, get the burrito grilled. Normally, I'm not a big fan of grilled burritos or toasted bread, etc but I'd suggest you try it. It kept it warm and really gave the burrito great texture. I finally had a day off so I could come try this taco truck. It's located across of Whole Foods on Queen Street. There are a couple of stalls in front of the taco truck but parking really sucks there. I parked at Ward and walked over. The good thing is, I came on Taco Tuesday so tacos were $2-$2.50. They have tons of proteins to choose from: Pollo Carnitas Asada Barbacoa Jackfruit (only vegetarian option) Lengua We got one of each! The tacos are served with limes, radish and some spicy veggies. The tacos were delicious. It's hard to say which was my favorite but I would have to say the lengua. The lengua chunks were tender and flavorful. They also have 3 sauces to choose. I got the green one which is the least spicy and I could handle. I never heard of a mulita so I got one to try. It's basically a taco and quesadilla in one. A flat fried taco. After talking to the crew they told me to always check yelp because they update it often, if they're closed they ran out for the day The service is great and makes you feel welcomed! Very helpful with whatever questions you may have. The prices are very reasonable and more on the inexpensive side compared to most Mexican food places on the island. The quality of the food was good as well, I suggest getting your burrito grilled! It gives more texture to your food, also suggest getting sauces on the side to maximize your experience! I went up and was about to order 4 carne asada burritos and 8 tacos but I was abruptly interrupted as the girl said " I can't serve you until 11:00am when we open". I've been wanting to write this review for a while. Thyda's deserves more than 5 stars. It's kind of my happy place. I've been here probably 5 or 6 times I. The last year, and I've never had a bad experience. The burritos are my go-to. I'm always raving about that piece of fried cheese that they throw in. It just makes it pop! But the best thing about this truck is the owner/manager. He's like a food truck superhero. Somehow he always manages to be cooking, packing, taking payments, giving instructions to the cooks, taking phone orders, cleaning and helping customers all at the same time. I don't know how he does it, but he makes it look easy. He is sooo nice too! When I looked tired, he pulled out a lawn chair and offered me the last spot of shade while I waited. Very much appreciated! They also encourage phone and text orders since there's really no parking. Makes it pretty easy. Just call ahead and the food's ready when you pull up. Best burrito i ever had. period. First of all, the tortilla was cooked very well. It wasn't too crispy but had a crunch to it and wasn't soggy like some other burritos. Also, the cheese in the tortilla really made the burrito in my opinion. It gave a nice deep taste compared to the grilled taste of the meat. My search for wonderful places that serve Mexican food, especially my fave Carne Asada Burritos, took me to a this food truck/cart off one of the side streets behind Ward 16 Theaters. I loved all the fresh ingredients and that the burrito was a good size and tasty. They can be easy to miss as I initially missed it on my first pass around the block. There is parking in front of their cart. In addition, the business next to them seemed cool with me temporarily parking in their driveway. I got to chat with the Owner, Magic, and his great coworkers as they prepared my burrito. They are from Los Angeles and saw the need to fill the void of great Mexican restaurants on the island. Absolutely delicious tacos and burritos served up by some awesome people! I finally checked this spot out and wish I had sooner. Burritos are grilled adding a nice crispness to the tortilla and also contain the genius addition of grilled cheese on the inside. You know when cheese oozes out of a grilled cheese onto the pan and gets crunchy and f'ing delicious? Yeah, they take that and put it in the burrito. Yes please! Tacos were delicious as well, accompanied by grilled onion, jalapeño, and reddish with your usual onion, cilantro, and lime. The lengua is on point! If you are a vegetarian, the jackfruit taco was excellent as well. They had three salsas as well, a rojas (smoky), verde (bright with some heat), and a habanero. People were great and super friendly! Hooked my dog up with some treats as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this place and it beats any other "Mexican" on this island ; ) Can't wait to go back and try their Mulita... something I haven't ran across yet in my taco eating years. Personally had the barbacoa and jackfruit tacos - sooo good! Jackfruit kind of has the texture of shredded chicken but tastes kind of like a chewy vegetable (def not a meaty taste) in a good way! It was a good balance with the more heavy/greasy barbacoa meat. Love their verde salsa :) read more

After 6 years since I found this place, still my go to for burritos and mulitas. I always add the works and guacamole to my burrito. I like that they grill the burrito a bit after wrapping it up so it has just the slightest crunch. I usually choose my protein based on how I am feeling in the moment. The chicken, beef or pork - any choice has been great. But the jackfruit option is a surprise winner when you are looking for a meatless option. I also love their orange pink hot sauce. So spicy but such amazing flavor. If you go peak lunchtime, be prepared to wait. But it so worth it and I usually just call at least 30 minutes ahead. Having been to Texas, I've become quite the taco critic, but this is as close as I've come to the double cork tortillas, fresh and tender meat, and simple, but necessary toppings. Thyda's Tacos saves me yesterday! My go to place was closed. I'm so glad They we're able to take care of me and my account. This place rocks! The vegetarian burrito with jack fruit was great I was told. I love that option for my vegetarians. It's not the usual beans burrito with veggies. Since it was my first time I stayed with the carne asada burrito.....very good!! I want to come back and try their Carnitas. Maybe next time tacos instead. I love their food! I'm so glad they're right down the road from my office. Flavorful and hits the spot! I've tried all of their protein choices, the Lengua (beef tongue) and Jackfruit are my favorite! I really like their pickled veggies, and the rice they use for their bowls and burritos actually has flavor (unlike some other Mexican restaurants). This place is so good that we ate twice within an hour. We ordered a bunch of tacos (carnitas, carne asada, barbacoa, and lengua) and the mulita (barbacoa and lengua) and ate it all on the side of the road with our dog then re-upped to get another barbacoa mulita and some rice. The food is delicious and the owners (I think?) are so nice and chill to talk to. I saw the little shack coming out of Whole Foods before and usually drove by when they were closed. I'm so glad we finally tried it because we are hooked! We went back a week later after our first visit and went right before closing and the carne asada was out so now I know to come a lot earlier. Love it! The prices are fair and the portion is pretty generous.
