Best tacos I've had still dreaming about them . So friendly best customer service ever felt very welcomed, can't wait to come back!

On the eternal search for good Mexican food on island, I had heard about Thyda's and even passed it by many times on my way to Whole Foods Queen or to work, but it never seemed to be open or the right time to go. I finally got the chance by serendipity when I had a free lunch hour and was headed to WF for some grocery shopping. WF seems to be the best choice for parking (if you're going to shop there anyway) since there is maybe 2 parking spots in front of this tiny taco stand on Queen Street across from the WF parking garage entrance. While I was there, they told a guy in a truck he could park in the driveway of the tint shop next to it - guessing they have a deal with the owner for quick parking? This place does a brisk business, so you'll want to scope out the large menu on the wall of the building before going up to the stand and ordering. Your choices are Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas and Rice Bowls with Carne Asada, Carne Pollo, Carnitas, Barbacoa, Lengua and Jack Fruit as your protein. I wasn't that hungry (but couldn't resist the opportunity to stop at the stand and try it) so just got 2 tacos - Lengua and Carne Pollo. After ordering, I heard someone ordering horchata, so I went back and ordered that - other drink choices are water, sodas (in the coolers, check them for selection), bottled Jarritos sodas, and Agua Fresca. There were several people ahead of me, as well as some pickup orders, but my order came fairly quickly. I was at first shocked at small two tacos for $10 ($5 each) looked - but they are standard street taco size, and the fillings are sizable. More importantly, THEY ARE WORTH EVERY BITE - especially that Lengua, it's hands down the best Lengua on Oahu. I would pay more for that Lengua, seriously so good. I didn't care for the horchata but that's my own taste preference - tasted different than other horchata I've had at other places on island or even my own when I make it, so maybe they use or add something else? Will try the Agua Fresca next time - I will be back!! read more

First time coming back after 6 years (I was also unimpressed last time). I ordered all of the tacos (6 total) with "the works" to share with my boyfriend. They just dump a small pile of "the works" on top of my whole plate with not enough of "the works" to be used for each taco. Look at my photo! So rude they give me enough "the works" for only one taco even though I ordered and am paying for six. There aren't even six slices of radish, so I can't possibly stretch this across 6 tacos. Super cheap and stingy. The tacos are overpriced at $5-6 each too. I thought taqueria el gallo Rosa was overpriced but wow this place puts them to shame (same price for inferior / smaller tacos). Hate leaving negative reviews over inaccurate information but there needs to be accountability. We travelled all the way to this location only for it to be closed on a day the website has listed as open. The voicemail also said they would be open today. She pointed out Thyda's Tacos and - with an "I dare you" look in her eyes - said that these are the best tacos in Honolulu. Really? Hah! So, I read reviews by my friends, Bruddah Fran, Lyla D., Rod U., and Daniel C. I trust them... And you should, too! PARKING: there are two makeshift parking stalls next to this taco stand. I wouldn't recommend parking here because you'd have to back out into busy Queen Street. I parked at the Ward Village parking structure (also known as the Whole Foods parking structure). It's much safer! LOCATION: on Queen Street, near the Kamake'e Street intersection, across from the Whole Foods building. It's a colorful, tiny structure with four people amazingly working together in it! SERVICE: the man at the window was EXCELLENT! He's efficient and polite! He was able to recognize loyal customers and call them by name! One customer had a problem with Apple Pay and was told to come back later... Because he knows him! Wow... That's trust! FOOD: I got three tacos - carnitas (roast pork), carne asada (steak), and lengua (tongue). They sure looked like what I would get in Los Angeles on a dark street at night with the cold wind blowing. Today, it was sunny with a cool, gentle breeze at 85 degrees. My takeout plate was covered with foil. I carried my treasure across the street and ate standing up at the trunk of my car. I enjoyed the raw slices of radish which gave a nice crunch to a few bites. The double flour tortillas held up well to the generous toppings! I appreciated the fresh lime wedges - I squeezed the juice over the tacos for an added pop of flavor! The grilled onion rings and raw diced onions were delicious! My New Mexican spot on island for sure The owners are from LA & stayed in Mexico that inspired them to open up this precious gem My personal favorite is their pollo burrito with guacamole! They also change their Aqua Fresca daily so it's best to call ahead if you're craving a specific one It's a very small area but there are seating areas to wait for your food! It's most definitely a grab & go type of place so parking is right next to the cart for convenience. They also take phone orders so you can always try to grab your food on your way there! Usually they're on it but this day they weren't as busy .. but got my burrito that I ordered and of course I was excited as I have eaten here a quite a few times and it's really good! I'm not sure what happened but the tortilla was completely covered in a thick cheese like they were gonna make a quesadilla but realized they were supposed to make a burrito and took it off the heat and made my burrito! To say the least was very bummed out! I guess I fit the profile as won't know the difference so shame on me! But shame on them for actually doing that to me! This has got to be my favorite Mexican spot on O'ahu. There isn't any table seating so it's more of a grab and go vibe. It's a tiny little truck but they pump out really delicious food. My go to is the chicken bowl. It's has rice, choice of meat, beans, onions, sour cream, pico & cilantro. On top it has a delicious fried cheese. I really wanted to love it after my coworker gave this place a mention but honestly it wasn't what I hoped for. I walked up after someone else finished their order and no one said anything. Waited a little and still No acknowledgment, I said hello and still nothing so I waited and looked at the menu only when the worker finally looked up for me to give my order he looked irritated. I proceeded to order and ordered two separate orders of mulitas carne and two orders of salsa and chips only to have to come back because they combined two orders of the mulitas into one so I ordered another one since it was for two separate people. Vegetarians beware. I ordered a pollo (chicken) burrito for myself and a jackfruit burrito for my partner. The burritos arrived wrapped in foil, labeled "pollo" and "JF." I got a head start and ate about a quarter of what I thought was my pollo burrito, only to realize there was no chicken. Turns out, the burritos were mislabeled! Luckily, I caught the mistake before my partner took a bite--had it been the other way around, they would have unknowingly eaten chicken. This spot is located across the street from Whole Foods. They have limited parking near their stand, but you could park in the Whole Foods parking lot and walk over. The food here is pretty decent. I tried the quesadilla and it was simple, yet flavorful. The best part though was probably the hot sauce. It really added a kick and some flavor that helped to enhance the dish. I went down a star because my friend's bowl had a fly in it (probably got caught while cooking) - but it was right at the top and you would hope that they would have seen it before serving the dish. I thought it's OK... I had their lengua tacos. Not only the tongue was not tender enough, it was small for the price I paid too. The seasoning was also not enough. I tried another taco but it was also just okay. I went in there with high hopes but I wasn't impressed. I am so HAPPY I finally found Thyda's Tacos!!! I had this place on my radar for a very long time, but finding this little taco trailer isn't the easiest task until one day when I was heading to American Savings Bank on Queen Street, I suddenly passed the backside of Whole Foods Market, and low & behold I found Thyda's Tacos!!! This little taco trailer has been around for a few years, and after having over 335 reviews on Yelp, I must tell you that Thyda's Tacos is LEGIT Yo!!! Located on Queen Street, just on the back side of Whole Foods, if you see a business called - (Zmana - Smart Security Solutions), you will find Thyda's just next door in a parking lot. The menu is posted on a wooden board just outside of the trailer and as you walk up to the trailer, you will notice that the trailer is super small. I was literally amazed that (4) people were actually working inside of that little trailer, and the workers were like a well oiled machine! One guy to greet & take the food orders, and the other three people who made the delicious Mexican grindages. Besides Tacos, Thyda's also offered - Burritos, Quesadilla, Rice Bowls, & Mulita. They use an array of meats like - steak, chicken, pork, beef cheek, tongue, & Jack fruit for the vegetarian eaters. As for me, I like my burrito and got myself a Chicken Burrito. For $10 bucks, I must say it was DEALAGES!!!! When the clerk handed over my burrito in a paper bag, da buggah was heavy! And ya know what that means when it's heavy........it's a BUMBUCHA of a burrito!!! Lol! The clerk also asked me if I wanted some hot sauce? I told the girl I wanted the "hottest" hot sauce they had, and I kid you not, da buggah was HOT!!! I gonna pay for that when I sit on dat porcelain throne!!! Buwahahahahaha!!! This place is situated next to Whole Foods downtown. They have great prices for taco Tuesday $2/2.50 per taco. I was drawn in by their delicious tacos and several different homemade salsas. I got their lengua and Barbacoa tacos. They were tender, moist and flavorful. The salsas were very good, and the corn tortillas were tasty as well. First off let me just say that I'm spoiled. Spoiled because for the last near 30 years I've lived in Los Angeles and have been privy to taste some of the best tacos the city has to offer (hence the ok rating). That being said, I was excited to try to tacos at Thyda's as many people have raved and given good reviews of their savory offerings. Just across from the Whole Foods in Kakaako, parking is a bit of a hassle as there is none in the direct vicinity of the stand. I parked about a block and a half north of the stand and walked down. I tried the carne asada, carnitas, and barbacoa tacos and they were good, some of the best I've tasted on the island. Their hot sauces are excellent though. Going with the suggestion of the owner, I got a medium and a hot version and mixed them for a kicking mix that elevated the taco eating experience a few points northward. I drive past here ALL the time, but finally tried a burrito last weekend after getting my dog from day care. It's been on my must-try for a while, but I often drive by when it's not open. This time, I arrived just a little after opening at 11 AM on a Saturday and put in my order for a jackfruit burrito with guac and I appreciated that they asked whether to keep it vegan or not (I said or not) While I waited, I had a lovely time chatting up the staff as well as another newcomer to the taco stand and we became fast friends. All in all, a $12 burrito loaded with the good stuff, the opportunity to enjoy it under the umbrella with my dog and the salsas was a great experience. I didn't find the jackfruit filling particularly memorable, and I actually think I would just take the burrito without it for a beans and rice version over the jackfruit filling. If anything, the whole burrito might need a little salt, but the tomatillo salsa added the necessary zing and seasoning that I needed. This is my favorite stop through taco truck in a Kaka'ako! If you call ahead they are always ready with your order super quickly. It's a small truck on Queen and not much parking nearby, so plan ahead if you can and save some time by ordering via phone on your way. First off I've never been dissatisfied with anything I've had here and it was one of the first trucks that reminded me of the ones I went to when I was younger on my way home from work in Oregon. Small perfectly executed menu of exactly what you would expect plus barbacoa, which if you eat meat you gotta try!! They recently added some more options for all their items with a jackfruit meat replacement, which I will update you all on as soon as I taste it because I will definitely be back! They have a cute little bench spot that you can wait at or eat at but the beach park is also only a block or two away with plenty of parking and lots of places to stop with your order. read more

Raw sliced radish, spicy pickled carrots, pickled roasted peppers and charred onions scattered through the plate add the perfect finger food foil. Carne asada - still moist, flavor throughout. Carne pollo - good smokiness, properly cooked. Carnitas - juicy, greasy goodness with good use of spices. Barbacoa - See carnitas (can't tell the difference in taste). Lengua - beefy, well seasoned. Who doesn't like tongue? Mix and match. Note: 15 - 30 minute fulfillment time. Very friendly service. COVID Note: Due to the layout, it is not possible to social distance when ordering or picking up. Further many customers are maskless TOURISTS. All were respectful enough to put them on when asked by locals. Your choice.
