We stopped in after my kids' appointment today and had such a fantastic experience that I had to leave a review. The service was honestly some of the best I've had in years. Our server was absolutely incredible. She was warm, personable, great with my kids, gave excellent recommendations, checked on us at all the right times, and even helped coordinate some menu substitutions for my picky eaters. I completely forgot to get her name, which I am kicking myself for now, because she was an absolute rockstar. We will definitely be requesting her the next time we come in. The restaurant itself was spotless, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the food was delicious. As someone who is extremely sensitive to food textures, especially when it comes to meat, this was a huge win for me. I usually end up picking around pieces that are too fatty, gristly, chewy, or just "off" in texture, but every bite was perfect. The chicken was tender, the steak was exactly how I like it, and there wasn't a single bite that made me pause. If you're texture-sensitive, you know what a big compliment that is. I also tried the spicy watermelon margarita and it was absolutely outstanding. Sweet, refreshing, and just the right amount of kick. What surprised me most was that it wasn't busy while we were there, because this place deserves to be packed. It truly feels like one of those hidden gems you stumble across and immediately want to tell everyone about. We left happy, full, and already talking about when we'll come back. It takes a lot for me to be genuinely impressed by both the food and the service, and this place absolutely delivered. I think we may have just found our new favorite restaurant. read more

The menu was a very reasonable size, unlike most Mexican restaurants with an overwhelming number of options. We ordered the elote and it was amazing. In fact, there were some somewhat unique and unusual appetizers that I wasn't used to being offered at your standard Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa tasted smoky, which the rest of my family really enjoyed. I ordered a veggie bowl which was really good-but we also ordered burritos, fajitas, and enchiladas. Everyone loved it. The happy hour drinks were cheap in price but not taste. The decor was appealing and the restaurant looked very clean. Service was great. My only complaint was the temperature-it was a little colder than I'd prefer. But that's really nitpicking. read more

I give Tia's a thumbs up for sure. The food is amazing! My favorite is the veggie quesadilla with chicken. Omggg. Let's not forget the amazing servers and my favorite bartender Krystal L.... The inside looks a bit small and was pretty busy for lunch but we still were able to be sat right away. The host was very friendly. The server was amazing from start to finish and made sure we had what we needed before even asking. I really like the chips here. Much better than most other restaurants. The salsa was also very good with a hint of spice without being too spicy. Started with elotes which were very good. Was told it was bigger corn cut to 6 smaller ones but only 5 came out. That was ok because it was still quite a bit for a starter. The lunch Pollo bowl is big, very filling and tasted amazing. Others at the table had carries bowl and fajitas. They loved it as well. Wanted to try the fried ice cream but was already full. The price isn't too bad especially for the portion we had. Definitely will be back for more and can't wait to see what the patio situation will be when it warms up! read more

I'd love to start this review with this - this is a brand new restaurant and I'm sure things will be different over time. The staff and owners are wonderful and were very attentive and wanted feedback on the food and drinks which was wonderful. Service - place was absolutely packed but everyone was very kind, attentive, and excited to be at work. Things were slow at times but every seat in the house was full and we completely understood. Ambiance - very cute and clean, modern, but VERY loud. Just a heads up. A nice place for a lively evening when it's packed. Food and drink - The margarita flight was delicious and none of the flavors were too sweet. I'd for sure say that these are absolutely some of the better flavored margaritas I've had and would absolutely come back for the tamarind one. It's apparent to us that the food is made to cater to SOMD taste palette so we did try to keep that in mind. Overall, we felt that items were lacking a little bit of flavor, but we really believe that was to accommodate individuals not liking spicy food or things that are too flavor forward in classic Mexican flavors (cilantro and spice). My partner and I didn't like the rice or beans which made up a bulk of my entree. I understand some restaurants use the same style of rice they do as it doesn't get mushy and is reliable over time - however, the flavor doesn't taste like traditional Mexican rice and isn't light and fluffy. It also contained a lot of corn which I want a fan of. The beans were too thick and needed some more salt and flavor. I'm also uncertain that the beans are vegetarian and they come in the "veggie" entrees. Just be sure to ask. My veggie burrito tasted heavily of frozen spinach and again was mostly rice so I didn't enjoy it. It also had a piece of carne asada in it, and as a vegetarian did not really fully appreciate that. But they did comp my meal and I really am thankful for them seeing that it was important. My partner got a trio of tacos. Overall, their impression was that they were a little dry and again, just lacked overall flavor. The tortillas fell apart and the meat was just a little bland for their liking. The tomatillo salsa that came with it to go on top was really mild and just wasn't the perfect addition to the tacos. I was by no means blown away by the food. I thought that the queso was a Stand Out addition to the menu and I don't normally even enjoy queso that much. I would love to give this restaurant a second chance when it's been open for a little bit longer I do hope that they change the rice and beans up. I would probably save this as an appetizer and drink stop if that doesn't happen. All of this being said we did have a great conversation with the owners and they are looking forward to adjusting the menu over time with feedback. We went to try this place out because it just opened. The place is much bigger then it looks like from Outside and has a bar. Lots of servers, trying to learn the menu. Our waitress kind of abandoned us. Another waitress noticed that we were waiting for our check and boxes (for 15 minutes) and got us out of there. Overall the tacos I had were dry. The rice was dry. I don't think I'll get them again. My husband loves the chicken quesadilla. It really was fabulous. So I'd recommend this place for a drink and an app. Dinner, not so much. read more

This was my first time dining at Tia's Cantina. I'm originally from Arizona, where authentic Mexican food is easy to find, so I was curious to see how this place compared. The menu felt pretty overpriced, so I stuck with something on the cheaper side: the pescado tacos. Unfortunately, what I got was probably the least authentic-tasting Mexican food I've had in SOMD. The food arrived quickly, but none of it was hot, which was surprising since it was around 8:30pm and the place wasn't busy. The rice had some crunch to it and very little flavor, and the beans didn't improve things. The tacos were okay, but the chipotle aioli was definitely doing all the heavy lifting. The cilantro didn't add much, and that can really make or break a dish. On the bright side, the salsa was decent. I ended up mixing it into the rice and beans just to finish them off. Overall, the food itself was two stars. The third star goes to the staff. Steven and a young trainee served me, and they were attentive, friendly, and on top of things. No blame on them whatsoever. As for ambiance, the space is nice with casual lighting, but it doesn't really give off a Mexican restaurant vibe beyond the name. When I used to DoorDash, I noticed it was always incredibly loud inside, but on this visit it was much more comfortable. If you do want to try Tia's, I'd suggest going for a late dinner when it's quieter. Suggestions for Tia's: Focus on serving food hot and fresh, even during slower hours. Put more attention into the basics. Rice and beans are staples that should stand on their own. Consider leaning into authentic flavors and presentation, since that's what sets a great Mexican spot apart. It's a decent place to grab a quick bite if you want Mexican-American food. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, and there were no complaints about the service or the staff. The trio appetizer is a must-try; the guac was fresh, and the queso was delicious. We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas for our main courses; they came out pretty hot. They weren't anything to rave over, but they were good. It was pretty loud inside. The tables are close, making it quite challenging to get comfortable without hearing strangers' conversations or getting your table bumped. Have only ordered delivery, so will need to update when I visit and try their cocktails, but the food was so good I felt like I had to drop them a review. The Combination Fajitas were perfectly cooked, and the portion size was a tad bit insane for the price (around $20 after tax). You can easily get two meals out of it, and with all the different fixings (Eastbound & Down has ruined that word for me) you can have a different bite each time. The rice also had a great seasoning blend, and the refried beans had a smooth texture that was perfect for constructing a tortilla. My only critique is that the chips & salsa didn't seem to be salted at all. I actually prefer that so I can add my own Celtic salt, but I know some people will complain. read more

Service is had a slight hiccup, but overall it was great. Manny checked on all the customers at all the tables and spoke with the staff to tweak the service as needed. My go-to dish at any Mexican restaurant is Chori Pollo, but here the chicken was overcooked and dry, with only a minimal amount of chorizo. It was topped with a thick, fluffy sauce that did not resemble traditional queso in taste or texture. Stopped by with a friend for lunch today. They were running a special on some of their Tacos for "taco tuesday" for $3 each. Upon walking in, the place was super cute and clean. We were served by a very friendly young lady named Faith. We did not order alot, but what we did order was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The complimentary Chips and Salsa were fresh and tasty. The Carne Asada was flavorful and tender(not at all dry like most places), the shredded chicken(im guessing Tinga style?) was a bit Cumin heavy but otherwise absolutely delicious, and the star of the show was the Diabla taco(not on the special) This thing was pretty spicy, juicy and out of this world. I have never had a Taco quite like it and I could have easily eaten about 5 more. The ingredients seemed of very high quality and super fresh. The only complaints are that we only got one slice of lime for 4 tacos and there was no kind of Salsa Verde, just a small cup of the the normal Salsa that also came with the tortilla chips. My friend enjoyed her Carnitas taco and her Flautas(I tried one and was amazed at how good they were..especially the sauce that they came with) Overall I was super impressed and will be putting this place in normal rotation. Food was flavorful but COLD. The plates were warm, but everyone except the people that ordered fajitas got cold food. We had a party of 10, and we were super excited to try this restaurant. The waitress didn't give us enough utensils and the ones she brought got placed on the bare table. Our drink orders were fine, but the food didn't all come out together. There was about a ten minute difference from the first plate to the last plate. Waitress couldn't care less. Manager insisted that the food came out hot. 8/10 people had cold food. If I had been at home, I would have put my plate in the microwave. I would not come back and I wouldn't recommend it. The service wasn't great and neither was the food.​ Also when we talked to the manager it took about 20 mins for her to call someone and get the okay for her to take money off. Went here with a party of four during the second week the restaurant was open. It was very busy which was to be expected. The waitress and staff were very polite and kind. The owners/managers checked on us several times to make sure everything was ok. The food was great and the portion sizes were adequate. Timing could have been a little faster, but as stated this was the second week the business was open and the restaurant was very packed. The ambiance was comfortable and welcoming. The building used to be a Truist bank and I could not even see any traces of the old bank interior when dining. My one complaint is the customer noise. It would be nice to have some kind of way to muffle the noise inside of the restaurant during busy nights. I would recommend Tia's Cantina to anyone interested in trying out some Mexican cuisine! read more

Went in for lunch with my family. The restaurant is very small and crowded for the amount of people they cram inside. Our waitress was beyond amazing and very friendly. The manager was very attentive and came by our table several times to check how everything was going. The food was OK. We order cheese drip to start and it came out within 5 mins however was very cold and inedible. I got the Tilapia Asada which was very good. My wife got the Chesapeake enchiladas and was not a fan due to the amount of cilantro hidden throughout it. My son got the kids Chicken tenders and said they are the best chicken tenders he's had at a restaurant in a long time. We dined in on a Monday evening and it was very busy which I expected since they just recently opened. We decided to sit at the bar to avoid waiting for a table. The restaurant is small and loud. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. The spicy margarita was the best part of my meal. We also had an El Jefe at the recommendation of the bartender. I didn't particularly care for it but I think it's just personal preference. It was very sweet. We ordered the chicken flautas for an app and they were significantly cheaper since it was happy hour. I was glad for that because right when they sat them down my first thought was I can't believe they're charging $12 for this. It was two, small and very greasy flautas they cut in half. It seemed like they were trying to make it look like you were getting more than you actually were. They also didn't come with the pico de gallo as advertised. I had the shrimp fajitas and as another review mentioned, it's obvious they're catering to the SOMD crowd. I was hoping for something more authentic. I found everything to be bland. The rice was undercooked, dry and lacked flavor. The beans needed salt. The salsa also needed salt. My husband actually put some salt from his margarita rim into the salsa which helped. He had the diablo tacos and he thought they were good. I tried a bite of the meat and the flavor was good but the meat was dry. They've only been open a week and a half so I'm sure they're still working out some kinks. read more

Nice renovation of an old bank which made for a beautiful space, but it was slightly loud in there (nothing terrible and they were super busy which added to it). I rate this establishment with a 1/2 star. OMG, the food was awful, the rice tasted like minute rice with tomato flavoring. My meal was served with cold tortillas. We had to tell the server to return the tortillas for a warmer order, the server forgot about the tortillas (poor service) The food is awful not authentic at all. I'm very disappointed of the food and service. I don't recommend and will not be a return customer. I suggest Taco Bell over Tia's any day. (My opinion) read more

Ordered the Chorio Pollo. It was probably the worst thing I've had in awhile. It came out and the chicken wasn't fresh. It resembled the Tyson chicken strips unseasoned, and the chorizo had no flavor. They just dropped a bunch of cheese sauce on top of the chicken and chorizo. Is there a reason my review keeps getting removed? Honestly, this place doesn't deserve any stars but they're getting one star as their server seemed OK and the management attempted to make up for the inedible swill they tried to pass off as food. Shall we start from the beginning? The drinks were absolutely terrible and this includes the sodas, water, and liquor we were served. Both diet sodas and regular sodas were entirely syrup, the water actually tasted dirty, and the island whatever drink we ordered was so terrible that the drink was left mostly full. The server warned us the drink was strong but with seasoned drinkers at the table, we can easily guarantee that the bar was attempting to pass of "bad" as "strong." Two of us ordered carnitas tacos, but can anyone explain why the carnitas came out on two separate plates and two very different colors? One of us had a plate of clearly overcooked and recooked dark brown carnitas while the other's carnitas did not share the same dark brown pallor but definitely looked off, dry, and overcooked. However, I digress, that wasn't our biggest complaint about the carnitas. It was the fact that the carnitas was clearly seasoned with the entire salt content harvested from the Dead Sea. One of my favorite things to order at Mexican restaurants is the chorizo cheese dip. I'd been looking forward to this all day and I wish I had a picture to show what was served to me. It was off-white with a sprinkling of chorizo and tasted like melted flavorless, gelatinous cheese substitute. The chorizo had no redeeming qualities either, providing neither flavor nor the desired kick that people look for when ordering chorizo. The rest of the food could easily be described as below average. My husband does not complain about food, ever. And he had nothing good to say, his tacos were mediocre at best and the rice that was served to us clearly came from a box, which if that's the case, we should be charged accordingly. Next time, I'll just roll down to target and pay $1.49 for boxed Rice-A-Roni Spanish Rice. Tia's Cantina boasts that their food is all fresh and all they have is a tiny freezer. Perhaps, Tia should consider a larger freezer and refrigeration for their cantina because the food that was served to us was not acceptable. Somehow, all five of us left with upset stomachs and two confirmed cases of food poisoning with a late night hospital visit. I'm not blaming Tia or her Cantina outright but that was the only thing we ate that day. And ultimately, while management comped us $15 for the 5 carnitas tacos (that we didn't even finish), it certainly doesn't make up for the fact that l've been peeing out my butt the last three days or that my husband dropped more than $100 for 3+ days of misery. read more

The food and our server were good. It was quite loud and I was a bit taken aback that the bathroom didn't have handicap rails. Neither bathroom had a handicap sign so I figured both were assessable however the first one does not have any rails. I'm unsure about the second one. read more

The enchiladas and guacamole were delicious. However, the rice and refried beans could use a little more seasoning. We got our food to go so but the service was pretty good overall. When I placed the order it was super loud and the person had a hard time communicating with me. It might be a good idea to have someone be away from the restaurant dining area take orders to allow for a better experience. read more

Visited Tia's Cantina during the end of their first week and it was fantastic! My husband and I shared the queso, both got the spicy margarita, and mix and match tacos. I had the el pastor, carnitas, and carne asada tacos and each meat was fantastic! I lived in California for over a decade and ate tons Mexican food and this was some of the best carnitas I've ever had. Also really enjoyed the spicy margarita and queso. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu - so happy to have this new option in SoMD. read more
