I'm a shopping addict. There, I said it. Now that we've gotten that out of the way... TIA'S PLACE IS UNREAL! I'll admit, I was nervous to leave NYC's shopping scene behind when I made the move to JC. I was considering living in Hoboken for a while, and Washington St has a ton of really great boutiques. Jersey City? Not so much. There are bars and restaurants as far as the eye can see, but when a gal needs some new clothes a new tapas joint popping up every week just aint gunna cut it. Tia's place is everything that it needs to be. Price points are very reasonable, think similar to Forever 21 or H&M. The clothing selection is stylish and trendy, and if I buy a shirt that goes out of style next season but I get a few good wears out of it I won't feel that bad. They are all stocked up for summer and there was a bountiful selection of maxi dresses and light and flowy chiffon tops when I was in the other day. Tons of cute costume jewelry and tote bags as well. I was hoping that they would have jean shorts but to my dismay there were none. I didn't have my wallet on me but I'll be in again ASAP to buy some cute summer staples. read more

Champagne Thursdays! Very cute, two story boutique on Grove Street. Tia's Place has a very girly feel about it, the way you would think a girl's walk in closet should be. Necklaces are hanging on tree stands, lingerie is draped on pink chaises, and it just feels like a huge 2 story closet filled with Tory Burch, Rampage, Max and Cleo, Hale Bob, and lots of other designers. read more

Tia's constantly has good sales, and you can often find high-end items at half price. You just need to know where to look within their store. Don't be alarmed that sales staff will follow you as you shop; This is downtown JC, afterall, and I'm sure they see their share of would-be shoplifters. They've recently started hosting cocktail events where you can get sample free wine and indulge in other little extras while you shop. Get on the mailing list to see what's happening. Tia's Place is definitely one boutique that doesn't look like it's suffering from the economy. The women were shopping and they were women with money. It was a far cry from the ghetto atmosphere of Jersey City that is forever imprinted in my memory. I can say that. My family has lived here for over 32 years. I've seen it change and Tia's Place is a boutique you're more likely to see in cities like San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia. It's a sprawling two story and every item feels special. And there is a lot in this store. A lot of quality stuff. I was really impressed with the variety of the goods. There was a mix and match of known and unknown brands. Items along the lines of BCBG and Trina Turk were definitely more pricey but there were a lot of independent labels as well. Of course the no name brands were much more affordable. In fact I was really surprised to see many fall coats so stylish and affordable ($75). Plus they were lined. Dresses were also going for as cheap as $39. There is also a sale section on the second floor but the items there were the last of each size. There was nothing unattractive at Tia's Place. They even have underwear, a section of double sided tape, shoes, candles and votives, and mirrors for sale. You can buy everything at Tia's Place from what you need to what's hanging on the walls. While Kanibal Home is a smidgen the size of Tia's Place, it gets five stars because it is inviting and low key. Tia's Place is a bit more pretentious and just as Lucy W says, the sales people do follow you and are over eager to "help". I appreciate a bit more breathing room while I shop. Nevertheless, I think Tia's Place is a great addition to the neighborhood. It's ritzy. read more

When I first moved to JC, I frequented Tia's -- back when it was two stories. Their quality of clothing was excellent and I also liked that you could buy the furnishings. I bought some great dresses, shirts, and accessories. I don't know what has happened in the past year, but the quality has declined rapidly. First, the people they hired are terrible at customer service. Second, when I walk in there, I feel like I'm in a dance club, with music blaring. Third, the quality of the clothes is not up to par for the prices they charge. It's really now a VERY overpriced Forever 21 or H&M. Not that I don't shop at those places -- because I do -- but if I'm going to get a piece of clothing that is going to fall apart in a year, then I expect to get what I pay for... not to overpay for a shirt or dress that looks like something out of Snooki's closet. Perhaps Tia's is now catering to a hoochie-clientele. The clothes are cheap. They look cheap in terms of style anbd presentation. It definately lost a lot of "class" points and really lost it's image, in my eyes, as an upscale boutique. Which is very unfortunate. read more

I have walked by Tia's a million times and never poked my head in. I wish I had sooner so I could have realized that behind those doors! When I walked in this JC boutique I got hellos from three different gals working there. BIG UPS right away. Not only do they have clothes, but they have all kinds of jewelry, purses and other accessories for any occasion. They have a pretty large selection catering to quite a few tastes - which means the price range goes from low to high to a little higher. I am totally going to be stopping in more often. read more

This store rocks! I went in once about a year ago for no reason other than I had some free time, and have loved it ever since. The dresses are great and this is my typical go-to store when I want something awesome to wear out or to special occasions. They have a semi-annual sale which is AMAZING- in addition to getting a few pieces of clothes, I also got heavily discounted voluspa perfume and candles. I love voluspa but it's usually too expensive, so this was perfect! Regularly, their clothes are fairly reasonable- no Forever 21 prices here, but also (thankfully) no Forever 21 quality. Their clothes are well made and I'm happy to pay a bit more for that,. The employees are all super nice and very eager to help you out. They have great sales and special promotions- I'd recommend signing on to their mailing list if you're interested- it really pays off! Love you Tia's! read more

Stopped in this little shop in Grand Central while I was killing time until the next train. (There's also one in Jersey City.) It just happened to be 10% Off on Everything Day! What a delight! Bought a black and white costume jewelry necklace for $22 that I like better than the $148 number I purchased at Bloomie's just a day earlier. Probably would have spent more if I had the time. This is one of my go-to places for girly gifts for my sisters and friends. They always have something cute: great candles, dangly jewels, and a selection of designer clothing and accessories. I've found their jewelry to be reasonably priced and the sale racks to be worth checking out every once in awhile. The store does a great job of visual display as well as creating fun events to treat current customers and get more in the door! Definitely worth a stop in if you're visiting. This is a great example of a store you might find in Hoboken but because its in Jersey City, the attitude and nuance are slightly different. Nestled between restaurants on the main Grove Street drag, their location suits itself to a shopping spree after brunch with the girls, or before a night out at the wine bar two doors down. I wasn't sure if there were any non-grungy, non-hipster, non-artist fashionistas [read: those of us who are so decidedly uncool as to be deemed yuppies] living near Grove Street, but I happily found my kind at Tia's Place. There, I also found all manner of fashionable items carefully curated by the owner and her staff. Fun costume jewelry, accessories, casual wear, and cocktail dresses abound - all for reasonable prices...especially when you factor in the lack of sales tax on clothing in the great state of NJ! :) Good place to find gifts for my girlfriends, too - or to hang out with them on Champagne Thursdays! My friend purchased a birthday gift here for me a few weeks back - it was a gorgeous infinity scarf in shades of grey. I actually cannot wait to wear it - but its been so warm lately that even my down coat went back into the closet for another week. Cute boutique with some really cute clothes and jewelry. Just be very cautious when purchasing a sale or clearance item. I bought a super cute black dress that was 50% off without trying it on because I was short on time. Once I got home I realized the zipper on the dress was broken and there was a huge hole in the dress as well. Tia's policy is that you can't return clearance items so I'm now spending more repairing the dress than I did on the actual dress. I don't mind that they discount damaged items, but at least let the customer know it's damaged when they're buying it. read more

Would like to give Tia's Place A Negative 1 (-1) review but unfortunately it is not an option. And in today's SUPER SHADY news...What had happened was...I popped into a small boutique downtown Jersey City today by the name of Tia's Place today. While not what I would consider to be a regular customer I have purchased from there several times in the past. I spent maybe 30 minutes or so browsing and settle on a few end of summer t's & a tank. I had to wait a few moments as the only cashier working at the time was taking care of another customer before me and then it is my turn. She rings me up, I hand her my card, and then...wait for it...wait for it...SHE ASKS FOR MY ID! Now at this point I have a sour puss on my face...why you ask...because she did NOT ask the woman she rang up right in front of me for her card...I am peeeeooooodddd! I ask: A. Where is there written policy? B. Why she did not ask the person in front of me for JD? C. And finally is the ask for ID policy restricted to person's of color??? Tia's Place if you are going to ask for ID when making a credit card purchase might I suggest that you: A. Instruct your staff to require it of ALL patron's and not just the ones of color in Baseball Hats. B. And post your policy prominently so as to avoid any confusion...because today I can only assume that the cashier's reasoning to have been... 'ummmm maybe I will just ask this random woman of color for her ID because she is making a $50 (yes FIFTY dollar purchase)...because I need to make 100% sure that it is her card she is using for that $50 purchase'... Really????? Am I offended? You bet and vowing to NEVER spend another dime in your store. ALL people regardless of race, age, gender sexual preference, etc. DESERVE to be treated EQUALLY WHERE EVER THEY GO! I will save my energy and shop at the Mall from now on and I suggest that other Jersey City'ites and/or those shopping in the area do the same as well. read more

Pretty cool selection! Lots of trendy (but not ridiculous) tops and beautiful statement jewelry. For this area downtown, most items I saw were at a surprisingly decent price point (read: still above my pay grade, but not by so much as to anger me). There are also 2 sales racks with discounts ranging 10-50% off. Didn't buy anything yet, but may come back if I need a unique dress and have to upgrade from my current H&M lifestyle. read more

Very cute boutique with lots of clothing and accessory options. Prices are decent. However my complaint is that EVERY SINGLE TIME I go into the location no one offers to help me or even greets me. In a boutique setting, there things aren't very sectioned off you do many times need help finding what you're looking for, but no one ever has offered to help me. Less than good customer service for me is an issue, and it's unfortunate because I love their product! read more

Ton's of great selection. This is a great place to look for a dress for a wedding, holiday part, special event. They carry tons of great brands and a huge selection of jeans. They have a small selection of lingerie, shoes, menswear, jewelry and hats. Most of the furniture in the store can be bought with prices display prominently. The only downside is the sales associates although very friendly they do tend to follow a bit too closely. This is a split level boutique and when you go upstairs the sales clerk follows right behind you. I know they are just watching out for shoplifters but you can't help but be a bit annoyed because they think you might be one. Other than the whole lurking thing. And actually reworked by the owner and her mother- really makes you want to collect every piece in the store- especially at the price- you really can't find pieces offered at this price in regular antique shops. Clothing and accessories are well edited with a nice range in price so that everybody can find something. Great gift buying destination for special items. Although a lot of the clothes I tried on weren't for me (I'm curvy and busty anyways) the service was really exceptional. Multiple attendants worked hard to find me different outfits and offer their opinions without being too pushy. I was never rushed. The clothes are moderately priced and I found a few special pieces. Tia's has a pretty good selection of things, and I would say it's the place to go if you don't want to venture outside of Downtown and want something cute to wear. It's not super expensive, but the items are not totally unique, so I think you could find similar looks for less, ESPECIALLY the accessories. I think that Forever 21 or H&M would have similar jewelry, and the $30 scarf that my bf got me for my birthday and I lost and rebought out of guilt just had a little "Made in China" label in it and probably would've been less expensive on a table at a street fair. That said, it's convenient and if you need something to wear, you probably won't be disappointed. read more

I really want to love this place. I have been in the neighborhood for over 10 years and have frequented Tia's Place many times over the years. The shop is set up very nicely and they tend to do a lot of floor changes to keep the product assortment looking fresh. They have beautiful window displays as well. However, the pricing is and always will be an issue for me. Although the store is merchandised well, the actual assortment is just sub par. Too many fast fashion pieces that are either dated and old or too trendy to constitute the price. I just don't ever find myself actually making any purchases. Honestly, most items are not branded and just do not reflect the price on the quality. Just my opinion, although I will keep frequenting- because I love to support local small biz. read more

Tia's is one of my favorite boutiques in downtown Jersey City! Expect to find fun and trendy pieces that are a priced a bit higher than Forever 21. One of the best parts of Tia's is their accessory selection, as other reviewers have noted, they have an extensive selection of unique costume jewelry, sunglasses etc. They focus on items for either going out or relaxing on the weekend, I wouldn't recommend going here for investment piece (most items are polyester or synthetic blends) or work-wear. Dress prices range from $50 to $120. While the staff is friendly, they seem more like very fun and stylish girls rather than experienced sales associates. For example, when I was looking at their jeans (they carry premium brands such as Paige), they basically brought me every pair in the store. If I'm going to spend $160 on a pair of jeans, I would like them to be able to filter their selection by what they think looks best on me. read more

I will start this off by saying that I rarely write reviews, but I am extremely frustrated as a customer right now that I wanted others to know too about my experience. About a week ago I bought a really cute top from Tia's Place. I got a ton of compliments on it and really loved it. After wearing it I hand washed it in cold water per the directions and it shrunk! It was a pricey top that I wore once and can't wear again. The most frustrating part is that the store won't do anything about it. I understand that there is a no return policy once you make a purchase but I think a faulty item should be an exception. Many other stores would have easily taken it back. Definitely won't be shopping here ever again. read more

I've always appreciated the great selection here, but recently they gave me even more reason to love them. I bought a dress here which for some reason fell apart after 1 wash. I stopped by and spoke to the manager and she immediately took my contact info, got in touch with the manufacturer and arranged for me to get a new dress. What great service! read more
