Ownership changed at this restaurant and it is no longer Tibet Kitchen, it's a Chinese restaurant. They haven't updated the menu or signs yet. I went in yesterday and they didn't have menus to offer and the owners hardly spoke English. I was confused and showed them Tibet Kitchen photos from Google to order, but they kept saying they didn't have any of those dishes. I wanted dumplings, lentil soup and chai. They brought me some other pork dumplings with no sauce and a clear egg soup to try. It was Chinese food. I saw them bringing out random food for other customers saying things like "Just try it maybe you will like it." I saw other confused customers returning dishes to the kitchen. My fiancé and I stopped in for a late lunch while traveling from Ojo Caliente back through SF on our way to Albuquerque. We had spent a few days in SF prior to that and as a vegan, I really struggled to find vegan options in the area. I am a huge fan of Nepali/Tibetan food and was confident this would be a winning choice. I called ahead to confirm that the noodles used in the chow mein were vegan and the person who I spoke to confirmed they are. We were the only people in the restaurant when we came in around 2pm. It is cozy, bright, and clean. There are colorful prayer flags strung from the ceiling throughout. We were greeted warmly by the server who answered my questions about what was vegan without hesitation. We started with the Laphing (cold mung bean noodle) which I had never tried before. It was tangy, refreshing, and a little spicy. Not my favorite, but fun to try and I would eat it again especially on a hot day. For our mains, I got the veggie chow mein & the veggie momo (both are vegan). My fiancé got the chicken chow mein and chicken momo. The chow mein portions were a little smaller than I expected, but the taste was divine and we were satisfied! Very friendly staff and decent food. I love Tibetan food and it's not easy to find. We had the buffet so I can only speak to that- the food was just ok but I will still give it a 3 star because it is buffet food which is rarely ever great. The rice and noodles were edible but not great especially the rice was dry. I liked the idea of the tofu and green beans but it was just lacking in seasoning. The best two things were the curry chicken I really enjoyed and the vegetable momos. Flavoring inside was very similar to a samosa. I found their momos a bit on the thick side for the dough I've had thinner ones before and I enjoyed that more. I order from Tibet Kitchen on doordash regularly because the food is always consistently good and wrapped with care. My absolute favorite dish is the Mo-Thuk. It is sooo good and nourishing! It comes with 5 or 6 large beef dumplings in a delicious bone broth with veggies. I could eat this everyday. The Spring Roll with chicken is one of the best fried egg rolls in Santa Fe. The Chowmein is decent, but not my favorite. I've also had the Halwa which reminds me of oatmeal and the rice pudding is pretty standard for a dessert that is not too sweet. Really delicious! I was thoroughly impressed with the chillie (spelling?!) chicken, pakoras and fried rice I had there. Everything was cooked to perfectikon and spiced very generously. My husband and I have been touring Arizona and New Mexico for two months. This place is hands down the best food we've eaten on our trip. We went here on a Sunday lunch. The server was new and did not know a thing about the menu or when they serve buffets. He went inside for all 3 basic questions of us. They were out of vegetarian momos, so we ordered just a chow mein. It came in less than 2 minutes, which was surprising. The noodles were warm at the most. The noodles weren't stir fried and the chow mein hardly had any oil. We added the chutney (sauce) that came along with it and it was awesome. Since the wifey was fully onboard the vegetarian train, Tibet Kitchen sounded like a perfect fit, and it was. We shared three yummy plates: the vegetable momos, chow mein and Laphing -- cold mung bean noodles in a spicy house sauce. We left with leftovers. We were the only diners that evening but plenty of to-go orders were keeping the sole chef / owner plenty busy, but he was kind and attentive. We had food delivered through Uber eats to our hotel. We got chicken fried rice, spring roles (veggie), spicy potatoes and lentil soup. The chicken fried rice was the best item. The spicy potatoes were bland, spring roles were okay and lentil soup was more of a broth texture then what I'm used to with lentil soups that are closer to a stew consistency. It was delivered quickly and reasonably priced. If we ordered again we would get the chicken fried rice for sure, I could pass on everything else. read more

I went with a friend during Covid so expected service to possibly be slower and the menu possibly adjusted. I walked into the restaurant and waited for 10 minutes before someone came out to see I was there and to get a table, I called out a number of times, called the restaurant (no one answered) and finally walked enough around to finally catch the gentleman working's eye. I wasn't sure they were open so asked vs just taking a seat in an empty restaurant. If I hadn't been meeting a friend I would have left vs waited. I believe he was the only person working so understand he had to juggle serving and cooking. However, we were the only table for a bit and only a second table was filled later. I was seated and my friend came. She mentioned she had eaten there pre-Covid and wasn't impressed but was willing to give it another try. She and the server had a conversation about the spelling and pronunciation of the dish. It was a cold day and she ordered soup with noodles and beef. I mention this specifically because she wound up being served vegetarian lo mien. Very politely, she mentioned to the server that this wasn't what she ordered and there was no beef. He disagreed with her then said something like "well this is what I told you I was going to make" then walked away. I couldn't believe it. He didn't remake the dish, bring her beef to add to her noodles (which weren't soup), or even apologize! I had a beef and potato dish with wood ear mushrooms and rice vermicelli. It was very simply seasoned, the broth was very nice, and the potatoes and meat were tender. There wasn't really anything impressive about the dish, so while I wasn't disappointed, it isn't something I would crave. We shared the beef momo and the filing was juicy and tender. We both thought it could have used more salt or seasoning but the filling was good. The dumpling dough itself was on the thick sisde - this was my first time having momo so I didn't know if that was traditional. They were tasty, I would have liked a condiment or even salt to boost the flavor. There is a sauce that comes on the side, which I didn't care fro as it tasted like spicy onion puree. The server didn't bring us plates so we asked for some (so we weren't eating off the same plate, which seems like a reasonable accommodation to at least offer even outside of Covid times). He brought only 1 plate. I didn't taste the noodles, but they looked fine. The server forgot my colleague's drink and we reminded him. I am really disappointed in my experience at Tibet Kitchen. I was so excited to go and hopeful for its success. The service was really poor and the food was not exceptional. I would go again if a friend wanted to go and try it. They have a buffet, what I like best about the buffet is that the serving trays are shallow, in that food is not sitting for a long period of time before it is replaced w a fresh portion. Very delicious and should be a destination spot for something different. Let's break it down: Location = easy to get to and plenty of parking, the interior is nothing to really rave about. With the rich culture and unique architecture of Tibet, the interior could use a little more decorations to lively up and authenticate the place but then again, you're coming here for the food. Service = little slow if you're a big crowd and the food tends to come out of the kitchen whenever a plate is ready to serve. This isn't really an issue as many of the plates are served family style, so order and split the plates among your party. Food = OMG! Order the veggie momo for sure. Those are basically pouches of palate pleasing flavors! A food critic of the place said, "if you've never had momos, you haven't lived" and that is spot on. Sooooo good. We also tried the tempura, which was crisp and fresh. The chilli chicken was a wonderfully, blended plate and not too spicy either. Went for lunch, told the owner/server I'm waiting for a friend. He gave be 2 menus. In exactly 2 minutes he came by and asked me to order. My friend wasn't there yet. I was the only guest there at that point. The food was microwaved for warmth, the dough on the Momo patties was chewy and not hot, greasy like they were originally fried in Luke warm oil. The grease was going down our hands. Everything else was mediocre at best, and the unpleasant owner was the part that pushed us over the edge . Still eating, he put the bill on our table. Had dinner at the Tibet Kitchen for the first time tonight and we loved it. As much as we love living in Santa Fe we miss really ethnic food, so we were delighted to discover this great place! First disclaimer, the two of us ordered enough for four, ate enough for three, and have lunch for tomorrow. We started off with the Pakoras. We were served a generous basket of deep fried onions and chiles, with a yummy sweet and spicy dipping sauce. We then moved on to veggie momos that were very tender. On their own they were on the bland side, but they came with a wonderful chile sauce that brought them alive. Then came 3 entrees (remember the disclaimer!), beef chowmein, chili chicken, and spicy potatoes. All generous portions and each very tasty. The noodles were filled with a generous amount of beef and veggies, and were great with the chili sauce. The chicken was lovely, just the right amount of heat and nicely spiced. And the potatoes were amazing. This is where we tasted the strongest Indian influence, they are a meal unto themselves. As good as the food was, what made the experience go from very good to exceptional was the service; from our lovely waitress to the owner, GT, we were made to feel like welcome guests.
