I'm still thinking about her spring pea soup with truffle oil. Every course was fantastic. But Kualani is not just a chef, she is a true hostess. She and her partner Richard came into our AirBnb and handled literally EVERYTHING. She brought beautiful plates and flatware so we didn't have to rely on the AirBnb's stash. She decorated the table. She even made my niece a grilled cheese sandwich while she was prepping. And then, at the end of one of the best meals of my life, they cleaned everything up and left the kitchen better than they found it. Having worked in restaurants and catering for many years, I know first-hand that chefs are not always hospitable. It is a completely different skill set and it's the reason restaurants need a front-of-house staff. But Kualani is the rare exception that is truly capable of curating a perfect evening.
