Tied House is such a great spot, especially if you're heading to a show at Schubas since they're connected. It's the perfect place to grab a drink or a bite before or after a show. We sat outside by the fireplace, which made it super cozy, a really nice spot to relax and chat. We ordered drinks and the poutine, and both hit the spot. The poutine was yummy and comforting, and the drinks were refreshing. Our server was kind and attentive. Overall, great vibes, good food and drinks, and a convenient location. I came for an early dinner and enjoyed my experience at Tied House. It's a cool spot and a great date location on a nice summer day when their patio is opened up. In January, when I came, it's cozy. The food is good, and worth a visit. I ordered the Beef Cheeks, a cocktail (Heartland Sour- razzberry & rhubarb), and a glass of wine. The beef cheeks were good- I thought the beef itself was a bit dry (where one star was lost for me) but the potatoes it was served with were AMAZING however. The service was prompt, friendly, and welcoming. All and all, I would recommend Tied House for cool but cozy vibes. I have a feeling if I ordered something else this could have been 5-stars. This restaurant has great ambience and is connected to Schuba's. The entire staff here was so polite and prompt. Our only downside was the steak came to our table luke warm/cold. The manager offered to make a new one but we were running late to the show at the Atheneum. Very kind of him to comp the steak. Loved the fries that came with the steak! We also had the risotto. It was good and the parsnip was a nice touch. The rice was a tad al dente for me. My friend tried a couple cocktails and loved them both (cinnamon girl & blackberry song). Be sure to stop by on Tuesdays for all day happy hour for 1/2 price draft wines, draft cocktails and draft beers. I tried a non-alcoholic cocktail (girl on fire) and it was pretty to gaze upon but was a tad too tart for me. I thought it would be a spicy drink due to the Fresno pepper, however, it was not spicy at all. We will definitely come back to try other dishes. I'm surprised I have never reviewed Tied House as it has always been one of our favorite places to stop by, either for a cocktail and a snack, or a reliably fresh and delicious dinner. The thing with Tied House is they're always trying something different, either with the seasons or to fine tune the execution. And they're usually doing something right, from the tasty and creative elote dip, to the surprisingly well-crafted rigatoni, to their chicken parm sub, which, quite honestly is one of the best in the city. I know it's seasonal, and will likely be gone by the time I type this, but paired with the wonderfully dressed side salad it is a star on its own. Highly recommend. I want to make sure I highlight one of Tied House's excellent servers, Emma. I've been lucky to have her our past three visits, and she has remembered me (along with my wife) each of the last two visits, from drinks we've had to entrees to music preferences. She is extremely knowledgeable, and will nudge you one way or another on a particular dish. An absolute delight with a clear passion for service and people, you'll be lucky to spend your evening with her. One note: Tied House. I cannot say enough good things about this place! We came here before a snow storm Lincoln Hall otherwise I would have never come across this place and i'm so glad I did! Our server was kind and attentive and just all around really great. The ambiance of Tied House is wonderful... but that's where the positives end. I went in a group of 3 and we ordered several bites to share. We all agreed the food was mediocre at best. Never have I had a mac & cheese that needed more salt but it did at Tied House. The chicken was extremely bland and overcooked. The beet dip was decent and likely the best food we ate all night. On top of that our service was terribly slow. We were left with empty water glasses many times, we weren't given plates to use when sharing dishes, and we sat for a long time waiting for the check. They have a decent happy hour and nice patio, but I don't plan on returning. read more

Came here with friends for Tuesday ALL DAY happy hour and I was blown away that draft cocktails, beer and wine were all half off! The cocktail that I got ended up only being $6, which was so shocking to me. Interior is nice and we sat in the outdoor patio area which was modern and very comfortable in the Chicago summer temps. For a party of 4, we ended up ordering 3 shareables and 3 entrees. For shareables we got the roasted Brussel sprouts, Little Gem salad and Mac n cheese. The little gem salad was the most delicious of the three; had bacon, cheeses croutons and fresh raspberries. Mac n cheese was a big portion. The shareables are in order of increasing size on the menu. The entrees of rainbow trout, lamb pasta and chicken sandwich were all ok. Lamb pasta was probably best. read more

I would rate this place 10/10 f for both food and ambience. The interior is beautiful, lovely fireplace in the courtyard and the service is spot on. Food is delicious. I had their sweet potato pierogi with bacon bits and they were amazing as well as the chicken burger on a pretzel bun and it was really good. I ate everything on my plate. I recently took my partner to Tied House for her birthday dinner and it was delightful. Would recommend. The service was excellent, every part of it was good, and I appreciated small touches like changing our silverware out after appetizers to match what we'd ordered. The décor and ambiance are very clean and crisp, and we specifically noticed that the tableware was unobtrusive except for beautiful plates meant to compliment our main dish. We split the whitefish dip and poutine and both were excellent, I wouldn't change a thing. She had the pork tenderloin and I had the mafaldine. Both were very well executed, every complete bite was perfect. We noticed that individual components of each dish didn't shine on their own, but that's a very minor nit to pick. The only place that was just good were our drinks. We both enjoyed two cocktails, and they were all good, well-balanced, but not outstanding. No single taste note was the star, and the on-tap cocktails both felt like Summer drinks being served off-season. Again, good, would recommend, will eat again, just this was the weakest point in an otherwise excellent performance. I would say price was good for the quality of the meal, it certainly felt like a deal, and we'll be going again with friends. read more

Busy bar, not so busy restaurant. The laid back, dimly lit scene draws couples and families alike. Service was spot on but food was hit or miss. Loved the spices & flavors of the kale squash salad; it was like fall served on a plate. Beet dip and flatbread were fine, nothing to rave about. I did quite enjoy my trout which was cut thick like a filet of salmon and served on a bed of lentils swimming in a dreamy veloute. For dessert we shared the peanut butter chocolate tart. I was hoping for crunchy textures. The PB cream layer was too thick for my taste but the caramelized pretzel sticks were a welcome surprise. I would not order the roasted chicken again. The smoky seasoning rub was OK but the chicken was very dry and the bean purée and broccoli underneath were almost burnt. Fantastic! The bartender was knowledgeable about drinks and gave great insight to my questions about certain spirits. Service was on point and just all around great people! The food! We shared our meal which was plenty. We started with the mussels which was perfect! The sauce/juice was delicious and nothing left. They brought the sliced Crostinis on top and it soft and piping hot! YUM! We also ordered the smash burger which was equally phenomenal. I know, its a smash burger, BUT, it was seared, crusty, salty, beefy, and played very well with the salted french fries. We sat outdoors which was nice as it wasn't too hot. This place is located right next to Schubas and has an amazing patio + the inside space is also open to the outside so come when the weather is nice! We were able to walk in without a res on a Friday night we just didn't get a patio spot but we were seated right next to the patio and since the restaurant is open to the outside it was essentially the same thing. All the food was delicious, I especially liked the brussel sprouts and the salad with bosc pear in it. The pasta was also great, I don't even like peas and I like it. Love this cute restaurant that has both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a cool room upstairs you can rent for meeting, party, wedding...etc. Lauren, the events manager, was very helpful and showed us the event space and answered all our questions. The food was great. We started with the chips and dip. The dip had a slight dill flavor, which was very good. My husband and I split the chicken dinner that came with a pepper sauce that was mild and tasty, and yucca fries, which we had never tried before. They were sort of like a potato, but not really. The chicken was very flavorful. We ended our meal with a raspberry sorbet that had flakes of sea salt in it. Different, interesting, but good. We definitely recommend this restaurant. The service was very quick and our waiter was very friendly and helpful. After dinner, we walked over to Schubas Tavern which is a landmark bar. Space was phenomenal; size for 70, lighting, set up, decor and seating with a coat closet at entrance. Dinner for 12 then reception with savory and dessert food items. Food wasn't bad, but wouldn't be back. We ordered mussels (a bit overpriced) which didn't come with bread, so naturally I asked if they had any bread. I was told of course, but was told nothing about an up charge. This is what we got - 1 slice of white bread. For 3 people. We checked out bill this morning and saw we got charged $4 for that 1 bread slice. Ridiculous. Shameful. We also ordered the pasta, which wasn't anything to write home about, and the burger wasn't special in any way. I like to give places second chances, but when an establishment rips a customer off the way they did - customers aren't their focus. It's the profit that matters. Take your money elsewhere. Chicago has too many great restaurants that treat customers properly to waste your money in places such as this one. read more

Can you say YUM?! Absolutely loved the Mac and cheese and cheddar biscuits. They have a Saturday happy hour until six which is almost unheard of in the city. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and they were still able to accommodate us. Such a beautiful venue, I even found easy street parking on fletcher. I met up with two girlfriends for dinner last Sat and we had a great time. The space is beautiful and the food was good. Emma was our server, and she had positive energy and gave useful suggestions. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and I probably ate half of it by myself. It's one of those things that once you start eating, it's hard to stop. For entrees, two of us ordered the chicken biscuit and another had their burger. All of the dishes were tasty. The biscuit was on the firmer side which was helpful so that the sandwich didn't fall apart as I ate it. I would definitely order it again. It's also pretty filling and after eating so much of the appetizer, I maybe ate 1/3 of the sandwich. It still tasted great the next day! read more

Absolutely gorgeous venue with an eclectic menu. The menu has a select range of items from mac and cheese to burgers to pasta and steaks. The menu is not extensive but has something for most palates. We came for burgers- one plant-based for me and a single patty for my date. The burgers were delicious, a standard American cheese, pickles, lettuce, dijonaise. I would've liked tomato and onion for good measure, but I'm sure if I would've asked, I could've had it. We also had mussels and fries as an appetizer, as well as the chickpea salad. Both were good enough. Our reservations at a place around the corner were canceled abruptly for no reason ( they were closed ) so having already paid for parking, we wandered over to Tied House and I'm so glad we did! Beautiful space, and we were seated immediately at 6pm sans reservations. We ordered drinks and all were great - especially the Rikkis Number one. We had the Brussel sprouts and the goat cheese salad and they were both excellent. For entrees we had the Lumachie with lamb sausage, the halibut with curried mussels and the Chicken with maitake mushrooms duxelle. All were astoundingly good - although the pasta dish could have used a little more of the lamb sausage. In short, Tied House turned our potentially bad evening into a really memorable one. I really wanted to like this place more than I actually did. First, it took them 15 minutes to take our drink menu, and another 15 minutes for our drink to come, then they walked away quickly before we could order anything. Food came fairly quickly, but the plates we got were extremely small. I love beets and would highly recommend that plate. We also got the fingerling potatoes (I don't remember the puree that was under), which were, not memorable. The potatoes were dry and...meh. I just don't have many words one way or the other for it. There are a lot of other places in chicago where you could get more food, better atmosphere, better service, and better selection of dishes and food. I am going to be brutally honest here. This place won't last long, and there are several reasons why. Four of us came here as we were visiting from Portland, which is a foodie paradise. It was new and trendy so our hosts suggested we all try it, and we love trying interesting places. The menu was fine and offered some good choices..."on paper"....literally and figuratively. The waiter explained that the lower priced items were "small plates," and the larger priced items were "large plates." Fair enough. So we chose about four small plates to start. The raviolo was meh. Kind of bland, and the flavor of the sauce was not the best combination. The bone marrow was tasty, but was literally about the size of a half teaspoon. The bread and smears (a bastardization of shmear) had so much promise. The bread choices were lackluster, and all of the smears were overly salted. The best one was the chicken liver. The best of the small plates by far was the sweet potato, which was creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. None of us were that thrilled so far, but we were still a little bit hungry so we decided to get one of the "large plate" items to share thinking it might be too much for one person and would be a nice finish. So we got the $28 short rib. They brought out four clean larger plates and within minutes the short rib arrived. The waiter walked away and we all stared at it then each other. The ONLY thing that was big was the ACTUAL plate. I guess we misunderstood. It was one very short rib with four half melon ball size scoops of Yukon gold potato. It was a good thing it didn't fall on the ground or our 3/12 lb Yorkie that was with us would have consumed it in one swallow, and he can only eat puppy size kibble with his little mouth. We considered desert, but the choices were lackluster and only the wedding cake sounded interesting. From our experience throughout the meal we decided against buying what would probably turn out to be a $10 thimble size piece of angel food cake. The waiter was delightful, and that is what the one star I gave was for. This place had promise with the decor and a good chef, but we won't be back anytime we are in Chicago. I have no problem paying high prices for an excellent meal, but the portions were so small it reminded me of a comedy skit I once saw. I digress.....the flavors were also not worth the price. Nothing popped or had any of us having even a momentary mouth orgasm. The chef is trying too hard but completely missing the mark. There are too many great places in this city to eat at to waste time here. I would have been equally satisfied with the flavors and food itself if I had just called in my credit card and told a random person to charge $150 on it then went somewhere else to actually eat. read more

Tied House is a solid spot right next to Schubas on Belmont. The inside and ambiance is great and the bar is gorgeous. It is very nice but also has a casual element as well which is great. The food was good, we got the meatball sub and the gnocchi. Highly recommend getting the sandwich but the gnocchi was a smaller portion size. We also got the cocktails on top which was super fun, so recommend getting one of those too. We sat at the bar and had really great service and good conversation from the staff! read more

My Boyfriend and I went here for restaurant week and it was awful. The menu is normally very limited and the restaurant week menu was gross. I had the parsnip soup for starter and even after dousing it with a lot of salt and pepper, it was just bland. No real flavor except for blah. The braised beef cheeks, which the server said was similar to short ribs, was nowhere near that. The meat was very gamey and the texture was slimey not tender. The parsnip "risotto" was also crunchy and bland (yes, again with the parsnips). The whole meal smacks of ChEAP products. If you're going to go cheap with the meat, at least put some effort into a real risotto. If this is your best foot forward for restaurant week to bring more people into your restaurant, this was a failure. And also to top it off, the meal took forever. I will never go back to this place. Try harder, Tied House. Oh one more thing. I had maybe one bite of my entree and sent it back. The waitress made a look. But didn't take any price off of the bill or offer to bring me something else. I got bee tea cocktail on draft for half off so just 6 bucks and it was so refreshing! Their wine selection is decent too as well a beer. Now for food: Had their chicken sandwich and burger split half and half with a friend and I enjoyed both. The chicken was crispy with a hint of blue cheese. Burger was cooked to perfection and the buns on both sandwiches must have been brioche since it was so soft and good. Their fries are cooked to perfection. Everything came out warm and delicious. We came here on a Friday night for Restaurant Week and the place was packed. I love the decor and overall vibe of the restaurant, sort of modern art-deco look thing going on. It was lively, but not too loud, which is a pet peeve of mine, so I was happy with that. Our server and all the staff that we interacted with throughout the night were on point, exceptionally knowledgeable about all the dishes that were delivered, the drinks/wine menu etc. There was a mix up unfortunately with one of the dishes we ordered, but it was addressed very quickly, but this is the reason for the 1 star deduction. The food from start to finish was amazing. Super tasty with nice flavor combinations and I think perfect portions for a three course meal (with the bread course that we ordered on top of the restaurant week menu). Highlights for me were the pork cheek which just fell apart in the polenta and the Cheese Creme Brûlée which I initially was hesitant about based on appearance and the fact that it was warm (I'm a creme brûlée traditionalist!) but was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the dessert was. Other than the one mix up on one of our entrees, this would have garnered 5 stars. Will be back and will be recommending to friends! read more
