We came here on a Friday night for Restaurant Week and the place was packed. I love the decor and overall vibe of the restaurant, sort of modern art-deco look thing going on. It was lively, but not too loud, which is a pet peeve of mine, so I was happy with that. Our server and all the staff that we interacted with throughout the night were on point, exceptionally knowledgeable about all the dishes that were delivered, the drinks/wine menu etc. There was a mix up unfortunately with one of the dishes we ordered, but it was addressed very quickly, but this is the reason for the 1 star deduction. The food from start to finish was amazing. Super tasty with nice flavor combinations and I think perfect portions for a three course meal (with the bread course that we ordered on top of the restaurant week menu). Highlights for me were the pork cheek which just fell apart in the polenta and the Cheese Creme Brûlée which I initially was hesitant about based on appearance and the fact that it was warm (I'm a creme brûlée traditionalist!) but was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the dessert was. Do not sleep on Tied House! After walking past it for years, we finally tried it, and it did NOT disappoint. The cocktails, food and ambiance were amazing. I had a gin-blueberry cocktail that was perfectly sippable. For food, we had the olive and rosemary foccicia, the house salad, fried chicken salad and salmon entree. Everything was extremely tasty and perfectly seasoned. Staff was pleasant and knowledgeable - steering us to great options on the menu. Highly recommend. read more

I want to start by saying that we had a poor first dining experience over the summer, clearly an off-night for Tied House. However, Meredith, the GM, invited us back in to make things right. We had no idea what we were in for and were so pleasantly surprised! We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience. All of the dishes were delicious and Meredith's expertise in creating pairings was quite evident! One of our favorites was the Ricota Cavatelli, YUM! Such a creative vegetarian dish. Don't forget the Tiramisu for dessert, a fun play on a classic. We now have a new perspective on Tied House, that we had been longing for. The design of the building is beautiful but lacks internal substance. I went here for the first time last month for a first date. I had been eager to try Tied House for some time. The experience alone harmed the date experience, as I am sure others can relate to the nerves of a first date, so to be met with issue after issue was quite disappointing. Never have I waited so long for service. It was about 30 minutes before we were seen, despite the restaurant not being busy. Then there were mistakes with the order (I am gluten intolerant), small portions, and bleh cocktails. Because of this, we kept the meal brief, despite anticipating staying at Tied House longer. My first time there it was great. I was here for my friend's birthday celebration. We had Into The Woods on draft and it was good. For appetizer we had marinated eggplant which it was amazing. For dinner we had a chicken sandwich and I order without mayo and it had mayo on it. That's the reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. But they remade the order with fresh French Fries too. This place is ahhhh-mazing! The food, the drinks, the ambiance, the staff - is highly recommend for all occasions. We got the tomato salad (pictured), which was suuuuper fresh and savory. It was also shared by 4 and we each had a fair share of the dish. I thought the beer risotto was delicious but you have to really have an appreciation for the flavor of beets. It packs and punch! Lets get the good stuff out of the way first...This place has a beautifully designed interior with nice color scheme and outdoor patio with green painted fire place with shelves holding pickled veggies in mason jars while decorating brick exposed walls...Just gorgeous up and down...It sets you up to think the food will be fantastic and with prices fairly high you will be expecting top quality food...But Nope its a bait and switch. On to the food...Mostly mediocre thrown together dishes like waffle fries with pulled chicken on top...Or big salad with everything but kitchen sink thrown in or how about a ham sandwich with fries and for dessert some watermelon sorbet that tasted like funky feet with salt and peach ice cream that was honestly some of the worst peach ice cream ive ever had in my entire life on earth...Only thing i could think was that the ice cream was made with rotten peaches...lol...Hell even the cocktail was pretty bad...Anyhoo the bill was over 80 bucks and now add 18 percent tip and you have just been robbed by a food establishment I wont even go into the bad service because whats the point...All I truly care about is the food and it sucked so bad weird service doesnt mean a thing for me. Tied House is a gorgeous restaurant tucked into a small building next to Schuba's. The whole vibe is very trendy and there is awesome outdoor seating in the climate controlled patio. It feels like you are in a secluded location far away from the bustle of Lakeview. Staff was very friendly and they got food out quickly for brunch here. I really was impressed by my selections here. The bagel with lox schmear was excellent. For $6 a bagel should be very good and this lived up to the price. I really enjoyed the short rib hash. This was a fun presentation of a familiar dish with a few twists. The short rib was so tender and flavorful, while the potato chunks had some really earthy seasoning and a nice crunch. There was a coddled egg on top which gave the dish even more decadence. The warm biscuit and fresh butter was an excellent add on to the meal. The only let down was my wife's breakfast ramen. It just wasn't good at all. I liked my Nitro cold brew, but $6 for a small glass seemed a little high. Check this place out for a chic brunch with excellent ambiance. read more

Tied House is a superb new restaurant that might be a bit too nice for its location. With an entirely separate entrance from Schuba's, Tied House certainly makes an impression as you walk up to it. Most of the lot shows off the outdoor seating area, with an understated door on the south edge. Upon entering you'll walk down a long dark hallway to the maitre d'hotel, an elegant entrance more likely to be found in River North or the Gold Coast. The dining area and bar is airy but substantive, with ethereal blonde wood flooring leading to cognac leather banquettes and then gorgeous aqua walls. In the evening sunlight it feels nearly Californian, and at night it has the richness of Paris. So much sumptuousness awakens an appetite! You really must start with the bread plate, with the chicken liver mousse. The mousse is supremely creamy, right up there with Table, Donkey and Stick. We started with the sweet potato and raviolo. Both were quite good, with the sweet potato edging out a slight victory - it had a sui generis texture and richness which was simply amazing. The raviolo was fine, but was a bit watery, for the "fish" nature of the dish relies upon a fish based consomme, garnished on the raviolo and duck egg tableside. Still quite good. A note on pacing - order the bread before you order anything else - or order it with cocktails. Our starters and the bread arrived all at once, and it was tedious. Delicious, but tedious. For our main course we had chicken and rack of lamb. Both were impeccable. They did a fine job searing the rack rare, to my taste, and the chicken was lusciously juicy. For desserts, go with the madeleines and the chocolate mousse. Both were perfection. My noble bourbon boozers will find much to love here - I recommend the Boulevardier. The wine list leans Old World and is a wine lover's delight. It is organized by grape, which is a bother, but they do have one of my favorite Gigondas producers - Domaine Raspail-Ay. Order a bottle for yourself and it may become a favorite of yours, too. The owners and the chef have certainly reached their gustatory peak, and I admire their ambition. The name is a bit of a misnomer, however, because it is, thematically, tied to nothing. Tied House definitely merits many happy returns, but probably not for visits tied to seeing a show at Schuba's. If music is your motif for the evening, the food is too pricey to merit a visit before a show, whereas if you are dining out, its too rich for a high energy show as a second act. Mon Dieu! Host your events here! I hosted my husbands bday last night upstairs in their private room and rushed to write this review! The space, the food, and the service couldn't have been better! Their pricing is fair and they went above and beyond! Special shout out to Katie and Lauren who made planning so easy, Katie hustled all night making the night perfect, i didn't have to worry about a thing! Also hired their in house dj Connor for the night, who played the perfect array of music and even ordered lights for us, everyone kept asking where i found the him! We were quickly seated at our table and given water, but then waited over 20 minutes to place an order. Fortunately, they righted the situation by giving us a round of drinks free. Waitress and atmosphere were lovely, and that's why I'm giving 2 stars. But other than that, I couldn't believe how average this place was vs portion size vs how unbelievably overpriced it was. I spent $50 on a measly and not very tasty watermelon salad, beef tartare that sort of tasted like Hamburger Helper, and a coke. My friend spent $40 on the tiniest plate of gnocchi I've ever seen and one gin & tonic. How in God's name is that a $100 meal between the two of us?! Like maybe if the portions and food were more measurable and we were drinking more alcohol, but they're acting like you're at Alinea or something. I didn't even get to see the actual bill either. The waitress came over with one of those portable credit card machines and we were expected to hand our cards over just like that. They also charge a $30 cancellation fee if you have a reservation and cancel under 24 hours, which is ridiculous considering there were like a dozen open tables at 7pm on a Thursday in the summer, which is when we went. Overall was super disappointed on the $50 I wasted here and will not be returning. read more

Tied House is absolutely excellent. I don't give out 5 stars often on Yelp but this place earned every one. My girlfriend and I went on opening night and the excitement from the staff was palpable. In fact, they were so excited that at a few times they rushed the table with our food or to clean up. This was the only knock on the night and it's something that will be worked out the longer they're open. In terms of food we got one appetizer to share and one entree each. For the app, we ordered the house bread with the honey comb and creme fraiche spread. That spread is hands down a winner. Despite creme fraiche usually being an additive in most dishes, it really stood out on its own here. And the honey was really actually harvest from a honey comb. I got the milk braised pork for my main, which was absolutely delicious. Not only was it perfectly cooked, but the flavor profile was intense in the best way possible. It was salty, sweet, and umami all in one. The only downside was that the portion size was on the small side, but that was made up by the bread, dessert, and drinks. My girlfriend ordered the short rib which was as reliable as a short rib should be. When it was brought out the waiter served it with the jus it was roasted in, which really added to the dish. Without it the short rib wouldn't have been half as good. As for drinks, the wine menu seemed rounded out, as did the beer (although they could use a few more in store, seeing that they're attached to a bar). The cocktails were also well done; I recommend the Number Three which has tequila and Malort. Yes, that Malort. It was delicious, and not in the evil way people say Malort is. Tied House makes Malort... elevated? Lastly, the atmosphere seemed like something that used to be more at home in the Loop, or maybe the West Loop, or the Gold Coast. Fortunately, Tied House is in Lakeview, and Lakeview should be proud to host it. It is clear that chef Debbie Gold is using Tied House as an opportunity to make an entry into the Michelin Guide. So let me make a bold prediction: Michelin Guide in one year, Michelin Starred in two. In the meantime I will be happy to give Tied House my business again soon. read more

Worst restaurant experience. Arrived when they were half empty. Martinis were very short poured and not very dry as ordered. I ordered a vodka rocks instead and poured my martini into my husband's and the 2 drinks filled 1 glass! Food took a very long time and while we waited several other tables who came in much later than we did got their orders, several the same items we ordered. When we mentioned this to waitress we were told they were very busy and those people ordered salads. BS many ordered same hot dishes we did! We told them to cancel our food and walked out as it finally showed up 45 minutes after ordering. Don't waste your money on this place! It might look pretty but lacks so much more! I made an evening reservation on a Friday for a girls night out. We are foodies and the Tied House came up as a place we should try. Let me start by saying the interior decor was beautiful. It's a really lovely space. However, after a long day at work and a reservation over a month ago, we were seated at a high top in the bar. With a reservation I would have expected the dining room scene. After a while in the bar, you were shouting at each other due to the noise. The bread and creme fraiche honey comb was phenomenal. Our starter was great! It was a beet porridge that had really nice flavors. This was my favorite dish. We also ordered the mackerel and short ribs. Least favorite dishes. Food temp was fine but hardly any flavor. The mackerel was mostly skin. My favorite part of dish was the green onions. For dessert we tried an angel food cake with red currants. This also was a great dish. The presentation of all the food was spot on. But primarily the main courses, lacked love and flavor. The server was great. I would not come back for the food. Pretty space, but the back of the restaurant was really dark on a sunny Sunday morning, and that's where we got sat. There was never a line, so if you hate waiting this could be a good choice! I had the Lox plater which comes with a house made Bagel, the platter had a lot of rustic accompaniments, it was good. For dessert we had the chocolate mouse $8, it was about 6 bites worth, which seems a bit pricey. It was really rich, and pretty dense. I wouldn't get it again. We also got the Binget's $4, they were small, and just really a crusty outside, the inside was all hollow. I mean fried food, if served hot is never bad. I didn't love the jam they were served with. A friend from out of town was visiting and suggested Tied House to catch-up and have dinner/drinks. Gorgeous place and decor - cool bar - large windows with lots of natural light. There were 5 in our party and we were seated at a high top near the bar. It was quite busy this night, however the volume wasn't overwhelming, which allowed for discussion without yelling or difficulty hearing. I ordered the Raviolo for my first course and it was delicious, especially the dashi which was poured into the bowl tableside. Other reviews have commented on the temperature of the food and I'd have to agree - the dish was lukewarm. For my entree I ordered the short rib and it was tender and tasty. Demi glace is poured onto the dish tableside. The portion size was small and again the dish was only warm. The bread and rolls were fine and the bone marrow butter was merely ok. We skipped desserts. The service was excellent. Interior is gorgeous and offers plenty of Instagram-able picture opportunities. I wasn't the biggest fan of the menu and perhaps I didn't fully appreciate the nuances of the ingredients and dishes, nevertheless I ate everything on my plates and left content. read more

I'll start off with the positive. The place is beautiful. The vibe and atmosphere are awesome. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with heat lamps. On a kind of cold day, a nice and rare option in Chicago. The bad: the food is very hit or miss. One small plate was great and the other was gross, no one in our table had a second bite. I had the "large" plate of arctic char and it was under seasoned, slightly fishy and small portion. Menu is small, so not a lot of options. I left the place hungry The service was bad, for some reason our waiter interrupted me three times to chat about the food. Like I'm mid sentence and he just interrupts my conversation three times. Wish I could have had an experience at this restaurant however as many others stated, the hostess, Anita deterred that. I came in on a Saturday night at 7:30pm and asked for a table for 4. I received a quick response of 30 min from the Anita however no follow up. I asked to put in my name which was quickly followed by a request for name and number. As soon as I provided that, Anita told me with a condescending tone to "have your phone ready and available when we text you." I had to laugh as I'm in my twenties holding my phone like that wasn't going to be the case but I agreed and went next door to Schubas to get a drink. Approximately 3 min later, I got a drink for myself and the three others in my party, i received a text that the table was ready. I told the ladies I was with to take there time but quickly finished my beer to go back over to Tied House where I was told by Anita that I needed my whole party to be seated. Obviously frustrated because less than five minutes prior we were told 30 minutes and were rudely told to "have our phones ready" then the script had flipped. This hostess single handedly ruined our dining experience with Tied House and thankfully Chicago is lush with restaurants so we didn't starve. Won't be back and neither will the four of us nor our friends because this was disappointing. Best of luck but I would freshen up the hostess staff. I wish I could give this place three and a half stars, but the look of the place, the patio, and our server push it to four. Why would I give it three? First I'll say that the starter bread we got with green tomato Jan and honey butter was awesome! The entrees were a bit on the skimpy side for the price, and parts of them felt attempted fancy for no reason. For example, why flatten one bok choy leaf on the plate and present it as bok choy? Just give me some bok choy. The duck breast special was slightly over cooked, and the rhubarb/strawberry dessert was like a breakfast yogurt parfait. My wife and I have had several excellent meals in the past at Tied House, including wonderful service and good wine and cocktails. We recently visited again in early July for our first visit to eat at a restaurant since the lockdown. Tied House has a lovely outdoor seating area, and I very much appreciate that tables are not right out on the sidewalk like they are at many restaurants in the area. I don't like inhaling car exhaust, or worse yet, joggers without masks passing nearby. Tied House has a row of shrubs that section you off from the sidewalk. Our server wore a mask the entire time we saw him, and our tables were appropriately distanced from nearby tables. Disposable menus were used. Overall, we felt good about the procedures in place here. I was at first disappointed to discover than the menu was totally different from what we've experienced in the past at Tied House, which was pretty high end farm-to-table type food. Instead, the menu is more like the one from Harmony Grill next door, same owners I guess. Sandwiches and salads, mostly. But guess what? Everything we ate was TERRIFIC! My wife had a Kale Caesar salad with chicken, which was delicious. I had a BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich, which I feared would be pretty boring. Brisket can be too lean for me. But this was about the BEST brisket I've ever had (only the brisket from Smoque compares). It was very thinly sliced, which is unusual, and the edges got a little crispy, which I Iiked. And it was on a good quality bun (potato bun maybe?). And the fires were excellent as well. We both had a nice cocktail, sorry but I can't recall now what I had but it was a refreshing summer drink. Tied House has a small but good beer list, so my cold Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale from Lagunitas was an excellent companion. The service was very good (I'm a former server myself in a past life), though he did disappear for to long at one point. I have wanted to try it here for awhile, but sadly it didn't quite live up to the expectations. On the positive side they have a great wine list and I would definitely return for drinks. Sadly, the food all sounded delicious, but was just ok. We stopped in for a few small plates and shared the venison tartare, butternut squash porridge, and the dark chocolate brownie. The venison tartare just wasn't very good (I love tartare, so was really bummed); the flavors just didn't meld and the venison was almost somewhat dry. The porridge had good bites when you got the crab and spices, but other bites were also very bland. The brownie was also somewhat dry and just "ok". I am glad we had only stopped in for a few things versus coming for a whole meal. The space is very nice, but at the busiest point when we were there it was quite loud. There were times I felt like my husband had to yell for me to hear him. As things got a little less busy, it was less loud/easier to hear. Definitely bummed about the food, but would come back at some point for the wine. read more

Great food, service, and ambiance! Decided to head to Tied House during their opening week and came away very impressed. Immediately, the staff was welcoming and and friendly despite the restaurant being extremely busy. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with marble counters all over, a well stocked bars, and what I can imagine will become a very fun patio that you can see from the dining area. There's also an event area upstairs that seems like a great spot to accommodate a large group outing. As far as the food goes, I also came away impressed. My personal favorite of the evening was something off of their 'bread smeer' list. It's essentially a servings of various bread and you choose the type of spread. I had a honey based spread and couldn't get enough. I ended up getting a few other plates to share and was happy with it all, especially the fish item that I received. The dessert was also excellent. My only complaint would be the portion sizing, it seemed slightly small. Drinks were tasty too, and if you're in the mood for wine there was an extensive wine list. I could definitely see myself stopping by for a cocktail if I wanted to go out somewhere nice. Overall I would give this place a 4.5/5, but since it was opening week I'm rounding up to a 5. What to say that hasn't been said? They spent a shit ton of money on the aesthetics and a minimal amount of attention to the food. It was not horrible. It just wasn't that good. I'm writing this three weeks later and I hardly even remember what we ate. That's a bad thing. After we finished appetizers, we quickly realized we shouldn't have ordered our entrees up front. Lesson learned. These beautiful spaces in the scene are becoming more common but the food must always come first. This place is beautiful. The food is alright, the service is okay. Let me explain: Stunning decor. Beautiful ambiance. It's simultaneously hip and modern but cozy. The food was okay. My fiance and I shared a few small plates and an order of bread. The raviolo was tasty. We really enjoyed the short rib, and the mushroom dish. We enjoyed the cocktails - I had something with Malort in it (purely for the novelty), and it was super good. Overall, portions were small and expensive, but we would be willing to come back. The service, on the other hand, was so bizarre. Our water was clearly trying to bump up his tip by selling us items - and not based on our wants/needs. I understand trying to share some insider tips, but every decision that we made was met with a modifier on how we could make better choices ("Are you sure you don't want dessert? We have a fantastic .... , Really though, you should try it... No? What about this other dessert? Also fantastic!" Seriously, we don't want dessert right now). At the end of the night, we decided that it may be a good place to take some visitors from out of town. BUT. Where I decided I wouldn't ever go in there again was when I tried to make reservations for a a happy hour. The hostess wouldn't reserve a table because we only wanted to get beverages and I wasn't aware that we would be ordering food. Which is fine. But when the hostess tells me over the phone how great the food is (after I've told her multiple times that I've been there and that's why we were looking to make reservations) AND tells me how "sexy" the bartenders were, I was outraged. This place has a fantastic chef and you're trying to get me to make a reservation based on your attractive bartenders? Ridiculous. I was so uncomfortable from her hemming and hawing over her hot bartenders that I decided never to come back. This is a good restaurant - not a chippendale bar. So my review is from last July. To be honest I couldn't remember the name of this place until I finally drove by it again the other day. I came here with two friends from high school to catch up after just moving from Wisconsin. Hands down such a beautiful place. My whole experience from start to finish was 5 stars. The food was amazing, the drinks were (strong -lol) and the staff was so nice. First of all, the bathrooms. Clean bathrooms are a big deal to me (like they should be most people). These bathrooms were super clean and well taken care of. Second, the aesthetic of the restaurant is something out of one of my dreams.
