I will not go back! Service was awful! I didn't get to try the food... I told them I CANNOT EAT PORK OR MUSHROOMS I asked for steamed rice and no soup. Meal came with MUSHROOMS. I sent it back and she was more concerned about the to go orders than ours. I got my meal back no MUSHROOMS but, fried rice...full of pork! There were maybe 4 tables full in there restaurant My husband gave his meal back to them and we walked out! All their good reviews make no sense! I moved to the area and was so hopeful about this cool little Asian restaurant in Columbia Falls. But the food takes forever and the tofu in my stir fry tonight was rancid and inedible. We are committed to trying new things around the valley, so after a very long day in the park, we decided to try this award winning restaurant. Being that we have lived in the SF Bay Area, we are always hesitant to eat Asian food in Montana. But, this place gets good reviews and people seem to like it. It is a very casual place and you can tell they are popular for carry-out orders. They have a decent number of tables. The sign states that you take a menu, grab a seat and then come to the counter to place your order, so again, a very casual set up. We ordered vegetable rolls, sweet & sour shrimp, ginger scallops and veggie lo mein. They told us two of the dishes came with rice, fried or steamed. I love fried rice, so I opted for that, but failed to realize she said "combo rice". It wasn't until we got the food that we figured out they do not offer vegetarian fried rice - all the fried rice has meat in it. This is why I am docking them a star. When our food arrived, it came in to-go containers on a tray with plastic forks and paper plates. Vegetable rolls were great! Sweet & Sour shrimp was great and we should have gotten the meal size, not the appetizer size that only had 8 shrimp. The ginger scallops were full of flavor and fresh - we loved this dish! The lo mein was also incredibly flavorful and fresh. The food is 5 stars, the flavors were bold and fresh. The atmosphere is 3 stars for dining in, casual and simple. The lack of vegetable fried rice is 1 star, this was disappointing. The service was 5 star - the young lady at the counter was awesome. Would I dine here again, yes. We have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Columbia Falls, MT. I had been all over Asia with the military for 5 years and was hungry for some good Chinese food. Most people recommended Tien's because it has won so many awards here in the Flathead Valley. We went on a Tuesday night. There is no "table service", only "take out", although they do have tables where you can take your take out to sit and eat. There is no "ambiance". We chose to order take out and eat there. I'm glad we did. I had Mongolian Beef. My wife had Almond Chicken. Together we shared Fried Rice. The wait to put in an order was not long. The wait to get our order was 45 minutes! My Mongolian Beef had a weird "kinda-off" taste with no onions. I don't know what this was but it was not Mongolian Beef. I didn't eat it. I left the full container sitting on the table. My wife said her Almond Chicken did not taste good either and she was having trouble finding the almonds and the chicken. I actually gagged when I tasted it. We left that full container on the table also. We both though "How can any one screw up Fried Rice?" They managed to do it. Absolutely tasteless! To me, the rice, and vegetables, tasted like they had been frozen. That's a big no! no! Another full carton left on the table. We got chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, soup, salad and an eggroll. The salad has chicken, peanuts and cilantro. Super healthy. The soup tasted like a crab tomato soup. (This was our favorite part) Eggroll is more like a spring roll. Not the huge greasy type egg roll. Everything had flavor. Came with many sauces. Also, the staff were extremely nice. No wait staff... Dinning in or take out, all comes in "to go" containers. Regular customers happily go into the kitchen to socialize and slow the help down even more. It must be greed... Great spot. We really enjoyed our lunch portions of Mongolian Beef and Cashew Chicken. As I said in my tip, get the combination rice with your meal, it's only $.50 and worth every penny. The ambience is casual (and admittedly a little cheesy--lots of random pictures and posters) but I still enjoyed it. It gave it kind of a homey feel, and made me feel instantly comfortable. Most of the things on the wall were thank you notes from local classrooms or sports teams, and I really appreciate that they invest back into their community. I had the Vegetable Lo Mein today. I am a vegetarian and a very picky eater. I went through Yelp and found a lot of 5 star and 1 star reviews for Tien's so I was not sure what to expect. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is a very clean and spotless kitchen. The Lo Mein was excellent. The sauces they put in it made it very tasty. I only wish the noodles quantity was a little more. The dish comes with a side order of rice which I said I did not want. I think they reduce the noodles quantity because it comes with rice. If I come here next time I will ask them to not give me the rice but instead give me more noodles. If I am ever in GNP i think Tien's will be my first stop for dinner. Ignore the one star reviews. I had heard good things about Tien's. We decided to grab dinner there. We were hoping to "beat the heat" and enjoy some AC while we ate. Their AC was working poorly. We were able to sit under a fan, but the restaurant was very warm. We both ordered Mongolian Beef (Hot) with combination (fried) rice. The Good: *Service was good, drinks were refilled quickly, the bill came without delay. *The portion size was fairly large, and seemed like a good amount for the money. *The combo rice was pretty good, and they brought more without charging. *They offered to remake my dish when I had an issue with it. The Bad: *The carpet was dirty, the booths had tape on the seats, and it was rather rundown, *My Mongolian Beef was swimming in celery. I don't believe that any traditional recipe for this dish would include celery. I pointed this out, and was told that is how they always make it. I might be wrong, but I do not believe the description on the menu mentioned it. They did offer to make the dish for me again. I did not want to do this as my dining companion was already eating, the place was overly warm, and I did not want to hang around. Been wanting to give Tien's place a try ever since he and Charlie Wong's owner split up many years ago. Finally got a chance to tonight, and was pleasantly surprised! Really good fresh quality food, spice level was perfect (I went with a four out of five) and everything had great flavor. Going inside it appears as though he has quite the local cooking accolades, and you can see why. I will certainly be back!
