To say I love this place is an understatement. I went here a few nights ago and it was amazing. I got the connection dinner and it was superb. When I was there they only had one waitress and she kicked butt. We got our soup and main corse faster then I have ever seen anywhere else. I stopped here for lunch during the week. I haven't found much good Asian food in Montana since I moved here in 2000. I have to say this spot is great. I have been here in the past and had good experiences, but it had been like 7 years since my last visit. I got the spicy kung pao chicken and egg rolls. The egg rolls were great and came out hot. The kung pao chicken came out soon after and was great too. The service was good as well. They came and checked on me regularly. Worth a check for sure. read more

Can't say anything good about this place. Used to like it years ago, certainly went down hill. For one the place is so dirty and unsanitary, smells like rotten fish and the floors and tables are sticky. The food was bland, kung pow chicken which I generally love had an off taste and had little chicken and veggies, mostly rice... sad. Same with the Alley Delight, had two pieces of broccoli and way too much ginger! Shame. The service wasn't great either, had to wait 20 minutes for a flat beer. Not going back again. read more

Massive disappointment. I ordered broccoli, chicken and egg foo young to go. They did not have egg foo young so I ordered cashew chicken. Got home And discovered a fried loaf of chicken with almonds all over it. Broccoli chicken has about 10 anemic looking pieces of broccoli in it. The chicken is seriously dry. Mind you I picked this up at noon today when it should be the freshest. Very salty throughout and the fried rice has absolutely nothing in it other than rice. I called to let them know orders were switched. They said no I ordered almond chicken. I've never ordered it in my life. I don't like almonds. I would skip this restaurant. Great service and food! The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Its one of my favorite places to eat.

The portion size for the price is outrageous. I have never seen one small/medium carton of an entree with a very small rice cost $16. Also the meat to veggie ratio was way off, it was so overloaded with vegetables and there was hardly enough meat, and very small pieces. I spent $22 on egg rolls and a dinner meal to split with my boyfriend and we weren't even full. No leftovers! The food tasted decent, didn't have a ton of flavor or spice but was ok. the egg rolls were pretty good but unfortunately were smaller than the typical egg roll size. read more

This is what giving up taste like... I don't know how else to say it. The beef chow mien literally had ramen noodles in place chow mine noodles... The pork fried rice was literally just rice and some chunks of pork... 2 ingredients, nothing else... The Mongolian beef was... just there... eatable but bland and kind of a mess... The fortune cookies was the best part for me because it meant I was done with this meal. Possibly this is because of the economic pressures of Covid-19..? I don't know because I am from out of town so I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt that this isn't that I didn't receive a typical meal. Well , the water was really good! We walked by the establishment and decided to try it for dinner. My wife ordered pot stickers and egg rolls and they were terrible. They were freezer burned as well as burned on the outside and tasteless. The egg rolls my wife said were okay but just had cabbage inside. I decided to try the kung pao chicken with fried shirimp rice. Well I have today I have had a lot of kung pao at many establishments and this is by far the worst ever. It was inedible. It had no chilies in it the wrong vegetables as well as sauce. If the owner or chef happens to read this review there is a great recipe online that tells you how to make this. The rice was well presented and looked tasty but was tasteless. If you like Chinese food that taste bad this is the place for you. I really feel ripped off!! The service was prompt but a little to prompt as the waitress would be gone in a instant. My soup was forgotten but to my advantage it was tomato crab, that doesn't even sound good. So in closing I just want you to be ware upon trying this restaurant. read more

Not from the area, went there with a friend. Turned out to be a very good choice. The appetizers were hot and good. The amount of food was ample and very flavorful. I am not sure where to begin, one I trusted you yelpers and can't believe so many people gave them an above 2 star. They got a two star because they are so damn nice to you in Montana, even when they are serving you a plateful of some flat flavored food. The town of Kalispell closes up shop at 6pm, so a handful of restaurants are still open. We had their menu from the hotel, checked yelp to see what we were getting ourselves into, and then walked the few blocks to get there. They had people in there, good sign. The soup of the night was hot and sour soup. My meal was $11.95 and included it, my husband got the family style kung pao chicken, for $8.95, they charged him an extra $2.00 for soup and another $1.00 for what they called fried rice, which had nadda on the flavor. I was starving to death, so I thought going over there, no matter how bad it might be, it won't be that bad due to imminent death if I don't eat in the next five minutes. However, if it was as good as the reviewers said, then Chinese heaven was waiting for me on the other side of that glass door. The wait staff is friendly and service was good, as I said. The hot and sour soup, she warns us is WAAAAAYYY spicy.. That's fine we tell her we can take it. The soup was obviously microwaved or it was sitting a long time, it was gelatinous and room temp at best. It reminded me of that Chung King you used to get in the can in the 1970s, mixed with something. It was completely flat, no spice at all, not even the standard vinegar bite you get with hot and sour. I could not finish it, that right there told me it was bad, I can tell you for a fact, I have choked down some mediocre food. Okay, still in a good mood, the egg rolls look pretty and promising. They had those little rice noodles in them that you see in the Thai wraps, interesting. It would have been really good had there been some kind of flavoring to it. I do not eat hot mustard sauce, and I ended up dipping it in that for flavor. I don't like bringing the bad mojo to the table, so I was not going to say anything to my husband yet, I didn't want to influence his dinner. I gave him the other egg roll and he asked me if mine had the flavor since his didn't. While we were waiting for the main dishes, they seated a table of three older guys next to us and I heard of the guys tell one of them there was no way he could finish that soup it was so bad, so they brought them the same sad soup. Our food comes out pretty quickly and I was happy to see some big pieces of chicken for the sweet and sour. The chicken chow mein had big pieces of white meat in it, which might have been good, but they were so dry I got the hiccups. I had two bites of it and it was so soy sauced that I couldn't finish it. Then the sweet and sour chicken was going to be my saving grace so I didn't die from starvation right there and then, no it was the same dry chicken, only in a ball form with that same flat sauce I had for dipping the egg roll. I have never left so much food ever, There was no saving it with anything, the chicken was just so dang dry. Now, my husband is always going to be more diplomatic about bad food than me, and he took a couple of bites off his kung pao and I said, why is it sitting in the dark sauce? He said it was like they poured soy sauce all over it. We were done. That I can tell all you yelpers is a FIRST, we are food junkies and both of us have choked down bad food analyzing it with every bite where they cook went wrong, but we could not get this down for further analysis, sorry. He immediately started looking for another place on yelp to go eat, but I was not up for dropping another dime on dinner out, which is tough when you are holed up in a hotel with no kitchen to go home and raid. So, here I sit low blood sugar and experiencing one of the first times of leaving plates of food. Then it did strike us on the walk back to the room, they had sat us practically on top of this lone guy eating. He asked for his check as they were seating us and he left almost as much food as we did. I can't get my head around the four and five stars, except maybe there is nothing else around to blow them out of the water. I don't know. There is a Chinese buffet up the street but we didn't want that experience tonight, and then there is a chain Mongolian grill up the street about 5 miles or so and we didn't want chain. I am glad I got to try something new. I can eat authentic Chinese, complete with sea urchin, which we do at home in Oregon, or I can eat the complete-candy-apple red- Americanized sweet and sour chicken. I've had it all and I am open minded, but to have no flavor and flat soup that is room temp and reminding me of canned 1970s Chinese food, is where I guess I draw the line? "The Connection" as many like to call it, is the place I hear spoken of the most by the locals as the favorite Chinese restaurant in Kali, particularly by the older crowd. Alley Connection is in a neat old building downtown, which I think is one reason it attracts so many. Parking is difficult when it is busy, but there is always a seat to be found inside. It's appreciated for its cheap lunch and fast, efficient service. Truly, the waitresses here during the lunch hour are on top of their game. Alley Connection is a pretty good take on Chinese food, a similar profile as Saigon Garden and Charlie Wong, but compared to the other two, it's a little pricier and seems to offer less portion-wise and flavorwise. They've also been under seasoning their fried rice lately, but rice is never the highlight of my meal anyhow. They are uber fast for take-out (10 minutes), have a terrifically seasoned Won-Ton Soup, and their wontons, both fried and dumpling are the best in town. (You know how the dumpling won-tons get mushy at some places? Well, this doesn't happen here. And they must change the oil often, because when they fry won-tons, they are perfection!!) I have to say I'm in love with with their Vegetable Stir Fry Tofu with crunchy noodles too. OMG, it's so good! My favorite Chinese in town is Charlie Wong, but when I can't get on the other side of town and I want quick takeout, I'll hit "The Connection." read more

Sichuan shrimp and vegetables didn't have much heat. Tails left on the shrimp made for a messy affair. It was mostly chopped onions. Combination rice is not good at all. Steamed white rice was dry but a tad bit better. Curry chicken with vegetables was decently spicy, but it hardly had any chicken. We won't be going back. read more

Very nice people and very well located. I would no sooner call this a Chinese or Asian restaurant then I would call it a McDonald's. The food is very moderately very reasonably priced and presented in a very clean dining room with very pleasant employees. The food is delicious but it's not typical Asian food. It is what you would expect from homemade midwestern food with an Asian influence. It's a good bang for a buck and the dumpling soup is spectacular and the best thing on the menu. read more

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the owners and staff are warm and friendly. It has been a Kalispell staple and favorite of many I know, but for me, the food is lackluster. My husband and I were very very disappointed today. We've been going to Alley Connection for 28 years, mainly for lunch. We do take-out most of the time and we know exaclty what to expect...great service and great food. Today we ordered 2 orders of the pork & noodle soup and an order of wontons. We opened the styrofoam container the soup comes in and they were both half full, containing mainly noodles and onions and hardly any broth. One didn't have any pork, and neither of them had any greens to speak of. He called to complain and he was told, "we can give you more soup." Well it wasn't worth the drive back. Our thoughts are that maybe it's under new management/ownership?? $26.00... really? We'll never go back! read more

Absolutely my favorite Chinese food. I've been eating here since they opened years and years ago and I can say there is nothing that compares. The egg rolls, tomato crab bisque soup, and low mein are the best. I drive eight hours to get here and it's always the best food I can find in the Flathead Valley. The signage said they were short staffed but we had great service and the food came quickly. I look forward to enjoying their food until the doors close and it will forever be my favorite Chinese food. Every time I come to Kalispell I will make a point to stop here. read more

I can't tell if some reviewers are being cruel, or are just too 'foodie' for their own good. My wife and i are from a major city in Canada where we have a huge Chinese population, so we eat a lot of Chinese food. Every year were in eat we visit Kalispell we always eat here and always leave satisfied. The ginger chicken and potstickers are fantastic. It's not fine dining, but its not pretending to be. I ordered a combination fried rice...I could count the few tiny pieces of pork, chicken and scallions mixed in with 2 cups of white rice. Why call it crispy lemon chicken if you're gonna drench it in lots of lemon sauce-soggy lemon chicken to me. Portion so small. A lovely woman named Carol served me a delicious chinese dish: Long island scallops with vegetables. I ordered the combination rice and asked for it to be extra spicy. I got the veggie roll appetizer which included a sesame hot mustard sauce. The price was reasonable and the service excellent. I will be back soon read more

I have been to the connection a few times, mostly take out as the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, IMO. It's always good and most items are reasonably priced. Be sure to get the egg rolls and pot stickers if you have room for extras! read more

Staying at the hotel next door and it was snowing, so we went next door. The name sounds generic. When we sat down and opened the menu it was Chinese cuisine. We thought let's try it. My order a steak with salad and steamed vegetables, while I ordered Sesame Chicken. Wait was short and the food came and it was delicious. The steak was well seasoned and the veggies were cooked yet crisp. The Sesame Chicken was excellent, good flavor and lightly bread chicken cooked in a Wok. It is fresh cooked and very good, the price was fair. The only issue is the time on the door said they closed at 5 and we're open even after we left at 7:30. read more
