I came here today for lunch after hearing about their soft opening on TikTok! I ended up looking into their Instagram too & knew I had to come check them out. (: We walked into such a beautifully done restaurant! The interior decor is something else, it genuinely transports you to a Spanish villa in Mexico. We were some of the first customers in since we arrived shortly after they opened, but people definitely started trickling in as we were there. The service was amazing right from the start. Genaro was the absolute sweetest & you can really tell he genuinely loves giving great service. He was so attentive, on top of everything, took our order right away, got our drinks out quickly, & gave us some great recommendations throughout our meal. I ordered the horchata, which is milk-based rather than rice-based, & it was absolutely delicious. Genaro was even sweet enough to get me a to-go cup when we were closing out, which I really appreciated! We started with the aguachiles verde, which was super citrusy with just the right amount of spice. It had a nice kick without being too spicy for those who can't handle too much heat. I love aguachiles & this was such a delicious way to start our meal. For our entrees, my boss ordered the chicken red enchiladas with rice & beans. He said everything was so flavorful & completely cleared his plate, so I'd say that was a pretty good sign! I decided on the carne asada shrimp plate, which came with rice, beans, & tortillas. I got half corn & half flour tortillas. Wow, this plate was perfection! The shrimp was incredible, the carne asada was cooked exactly how I like it, & the portions of rice & beans were just right. This is definitely a plate I would 100% recommend! I also asked Genaro if they had any spicy salsas & he said, of course! He brought out two different options for me to try & they definitely brought the heat. Overall, this place is a HIT. I really hope more people discover them because the food was amazing, but the service was even better. First time trying this restaurant with my family and my sister's family. This is a mixed review. Although there are lots to like about this place, there is also lots to dislike. First the good. The food was overall good. Not my order, but everyone else ordered well and was happy with their food. The decor was nice and everything looked clean and organized. This was a holiday lunch and surprisingly not busy. Now the bad. No parking. Very slow service. We had a party of 9, and it took 45 minutes to get most of our food. I didn't get mine for another 10 minutes. I'm going to comment on my meal. I was in the mood for breakfast so I ordered the French Toast. My recommendation is please don't offer something on the menu that you can't cook right. That was the driest, most flavorless French toast I have ever had. I guess it's my fault for ordering French toast at a Mexican restaurant, but at $17 I expected something reasonably good. Granted, the rest of the party had decent tacos and burritos, so I've would say the food is overall good. Table side Guacamole lacked flavor... think they forgot to season it. One person in my party got her barria missing the consumè. One person wanted no green sauce on her burrito but got extra green sauce instead. What happen to paying attention to details? Like I said, the place was not busy. Lastly the prices. You are looking at almost $30 per entree. It's pricey for what you get. Table side guacamole for $17 is not worth it. Thank goodness we have a New Mexican restaurant in old town that is delicious and has very good customer service. You get chips and salsa along with some type of bean dip ( which is very tasty). They have a Tuesday taco deal that I'm sharing in the photos I got the Al pastor tj style tacos - they were loaded up and even with the wrap I ended up eating them with a fork. Over solid and good for price. They have one hard worker and a lady who stands at the front desk and avoids eye contact. I rarely rate restaurants a 5, and this was an immediate golden buzzer 5 - a must try new eat in Old Town Pasadena. - - - - - - You've heard of love at first sight, but did you know there's also love at first taste? Yup, that's what I was served here as a Soft Opening special... a lady handing out chips and salsa samples. At first, I briskly walked towards my dinner plans but obliged with 10 minutes to spare. The first crunch and taste, I knew this would be special. "I have dinner plans, but I WILL be back," I said. Well, turns out my friend was feeling adventurous, so we dined here instead on the day after opening night. Parking is fairly easy in this part of town; they're one block from a $1 / hr parking lot for the first two hours. The moment you walk in, several staff members are ready to greet you into a moderately lit dining room featuring dark-brown decor. Within a minute, we were sat and served - the same delectable chips and salsa as appetizers. Their menu is fairly simple, serving classic Mexican eats with some specials, which we knew we had to try. We had their Carne En Su Jugo, which featured a soupy mix of meats and greens as well as their Puerco En Salsa Verde, which featured pork with tomatillo. Carne En Su Jugo - Honestly this was a soupy mix; I felt weird eating this. It tasted like salsa verde soup - initially disgusted but a few sips intrigue became excitement. Layered in the thin watery soup were perfect pairings of cripy, grilled meat and bacon. The onions and chile served as the perfect tangy palate cleansers. Puerco En Salsa Verde - I hate pork, but with a friend and new cuisines - yes I'll suck it up and try it. And suck I did... this pork was inhaled to say the least. We enjoyed with a side of the best roasted potatoes and rice. With both dishes, we had corn tortillas; now these must have been freshly made. For starters, I hate the usual store-bought corn tortillas, but I'm not fighting my friend's order. After trying it, I'm so glad I did. Halfway into our meal, we were asked about dessert, though neither of us could muster up the space in our tummies to take in more food. The pace of the meal felt rather quick, though this will likely improve with time. Paying was fairly easy by tap at the end of the meal. Needless to say, I WILL be back to clean out their Molcajete. No crumbs were left this evening, and never will I leave crumbs here. As the name suggests, it was indeed Tierra Caliente - some HOT tierra indeed. My coworker and I stumbled upon this new restaurant and decided to try it out. The chips were okay, a bit salty and some tasted a bit stale. It comes with salsa and a bean dip. There was a nice crowd enjoying their meals and they even had a live mariachi band. The front-of-house staff is definitely still finding their footing. It took a solid 20 minutes just to get our initial drink orders taken, and the staff seemed pretty scattered throughout the room, rarely coming by to check in on the table. ​Once we got our drink and food orders in, though, the kitchen turned things around fast. The food came out fairly quick. The presentation was nice and everything tasted good. Nothing mind-blowing, but we were completely satisfied with the meal and enjoyed the flavors. The kitchen definitely has its side of things dialed in. ​The service hiccups returned right at the end when we were handed the wrong table's bill. We had to track down our waitress just to get our bill squared away. Overall, it's a good looking spot with good food but the service clearly needs a bit more practice. The food is amazing! I love the flavor of everything I've tried, and I really appreciate the variety on the menu. They offer everything from burgers, seafood, salads, enchiladas, salmon, soups, and breakfast items--there's truly something for everyone. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. The drinks are also incredible. I've tried almost every flavor of their margaritas and mojitos, along with the sangria and the cantarito, and they've all been delicious with great flavor. These photos are from several different visits since they first opened. I've had different servers throughout my visits, but I see Abigail the most, and she's always exceptional. She's kind and attentive. My boyfriend and I are obsessed with the beans they serve alongside the chips and salsa, and she always makes sure we never run out! She also had her colleague Hector help us for a bit while she went on break, and he was just as attentive and friendly. Every other staff member we've interacted with, including Bello, Sebastian, and both hostesses, has also been friendly, welcoming, and attentive. First visit and the restaurant was pleasantly crowded! The service was good, our waiter was hustling and super busy, it took some time to get our order taken but he was attentive. We had the fajita trio but asked for shrimp and chicken only, the chicken and shrimp were seasoned perfectly and weren't drenched or over salted which was a plus. The only recommendation for this plate would be to add more bell peppers and tomatoes, there was only one of each, it was most onion. The rice was great, the beans were good but definitely runny and didn't have a lot of substance to it. The Mexican salad was delicious. Salsa was the perfect. We questioned it and a server escalated it to the manager. She said she would explain it to us. The house margarita was offered either traditional with salt or with Chamoy and Tajín; I chose the latter, and it was delicious. I'm shocked by all the high ratings this place has received. We had dinner here last night and everything was terrible. The margaritas were sickeningly sweet--I actually sent my first one back. The table-side guacamole was made with unripe avocados. My chile relleno was soaked in grease. The service was slow and inattentive. A waitress came over and asked for our drink orders, but rather than put them in, she spent 10 minutes at the hostess stand doing something. Finally got the drinks a half-hour after arriving. The prices on the menu would be high, even for good Mexican food and drinks, and these were anything but. I can't imagine coming back to this restaurant. It just seems hopelessly bad. read more
