Went for dinner and stayed for a huge thunderstorm! I had been craving coconut shrimp and my dinner didn't disappoint. It wasn't the most spectacular meal we have ever had, but the food was very good, service was very friendly, and the margs were solid. The coconut shrimp had a slightly sweet dipping sauce that really was delicious! My husband got a chile relleno con queso and he really liked it, too. The space itself is really cool - near the beach, right on the corner with open air on two sides. They have trees growing out the ceiling! It's a great spot for a nice date. My husband and I have been coming here for years! Probably at least eight years. Probably one of the best breakfast we've ever had in Sayulita. This time we had brought our family with us and decided we were going to do our own taco tour. Came here probably our fourth or fifth stop and said we wanted Baja fish tacos. The cook in the back was so rude making faces that he didn't wanna make Baja style fish tacos. Mind you we'd already been to at least four other places this day and looked forward to trying theirs. We had actually already been there that morning to kick off our taco tour but forgot to ask for Baja style. We ended up leaving because he was so rude! I'm really quite sad because we really like this restaurant and I was absolutely mortified and embarrassed that I even took people to this restaurant and they experienced that rude behavior by cook. I would think there's a lot of people that would cook whatever people ask for to make a living, but apparently it was too much to ask him to make Baja style tacos! read more

Tierra viva had a great location for breakfast. We arrived around 11 and they has both lunch and breakfast, I landed on chilaquiles with 1/2 red and 1/2 green sauce and I got a coffee. The ice coffee was ok, I personally liked other options better. But the service was great! Everyone was super accommodating and helpful to literally everything. They offered to change out my coffee but I dealt with it. While we were wiring for our food the best thing happened, this huge and I mean HUGE iguana was climbing down from the tree house above. This iguana was probably 4 feet long, the staff ran over to feed it something and we were able to watch him eat, it was quit a sight and a treat treat. Shortly after our plates were dropped off, I really enjoyed the chilaquiles. It was unique to get both red and green sauce. This dish was also served with some potatoes and toast. Wow! Oh so good shrimp ceviche to start. Definitely try the Mahi Mahi tacos excellent. The tacos come in a set of three. Bet u can't finish it. Fish was grilled and look how big they are. I was only able to eat two. The margarita on the rocks so good with Mexican lime. I only had one margarita and I'm a little drunk. I also drank a lemonade which was so good. My wife and I had a really good late lunch/early dinner of appetizers and drinks. We had some fresh fish and shrimp ceviche, chips and guacamole, and shrimp quesadillas. These were so delicious. We probably ordered too much too, and left stuffed. I really can't get enough camarones down here. I also had a habanero and watermelon margarita that was really good. The first few sips were hot, but then the sweetness takes over. At first I was worried that it was too hot, but then it died down a little. In any case, it's totally worth a try. Tierra Viva also has great rooftop seating away from the busy street. It is a little pricey (still less than US prices though), but totally worth it. read more

In Sayulita for a sun holiday and came by for dinner as walked by Tierra Viva several times. The room is quite nice and open with local artwork donning the walls. This place had the largest options for drinks that we had come across. The menu is quite large as well and I selected the beef fajita's. I did have higher expectations ordering fajita's here but unfortunately they were not good...they lacked flavour and there was no caramelizing / crispness to the onions/pepper/beef combination. The food presentation was good and the service was okay. If we return to Sayulita, we have no plans to return to Tierra Viva. read more

I'd say this is one of the best more Westernized restaurants in Sayulita. The food, atmosphere and service are all excellent. I got the strawberry margarita which was so delicious and refreshing -- definitely get one of their many margaritas. I also got the banana roll and the spicy tuna roll (way too much for one person with a light appetite, but I wanted to try both.) The banana roll was so unique and I loved it. The sweetness of the banana paired well with the shrimp and avocado. The spicy tuna was pretty damn spicy but also good. My only critique of the sushi is that it had too much rice. i've gotten dinner/sushi here 5 times, so i can only speak on the dinner staff/service. amazing spot. the rooftop is an absolutely beautiful location to enjoy a meal. best spicy tuna roll i've had (i've worked in two sushi restaurants in america). they give you legit pieces of tuna and not the diced up, breadcrumb-diluted stuff at most places. sunrise salad was delicious too. dessert was delightful. and the biggest compliment of all: my sister really liked her food! she is not easy to please haha have not had much to drink there, but my mexican mule was great. the staff is really nice too. definitely try it out! read more

Absolutely delicious. We had The calamari relleno as our starter.. they're made to order and worth the short wait. I wanted to lick the plate clean.... but my boyfriend did first. The Oaxaca mule was great. Mezcal, mint and ginger beer. Perfection. Molcajete was my main dish, as a lover of tomatoes, seafood, avocado and wine sauces this dish was an obvious choice that I did not regret. I was too full to order desert but am frothing at the mouth at the thought of their flambéed plantain and can't wait to go back. I am a frequent visitor to the Riviera Nayarit, and every time I am there I make a special trip to eat in this amazing restaurant. I have yet to have had a meal that was less than spectacular. I have eaten at a lot of amazing restaurants up and down this coast, but Tierra Viva is my favourite. I try to order something different on each visit and fortunately the menu is always changing, and the chef is very creative. This year I was down with a lady friend and we were treated to far and away the best sushi I have eaten in Mexico, and perhaps anywhere else. Those who know me know that I am a sushi snob, and have always loved the traditional styles. California Rolls and the like always left me cold, so when Charlie and Melanie, the owners suggested we try theirs, I was dubious. My companion, however was keen to give it a go, Over the next hour we were served some of the most creative, delicious and wonderfully presented food I have ever tasted. The rice was perfect, the fish wonderfully fresh and the combinations took my breath away. Sadly, it was late, we were upstairs on the Terraza so it was too dark and none of my photos turned out. The restaurant itself has been remodeled in the last year, and it looks great. It is more modern, but still open to the street on the lower level, a great place to people watch, which is always a treat in Sayulita. the Terraza, upstairs is a nice quiet retreat, with a wonderful bar and full menu service. There are also big TV's where you can watch sporting events. Expect hockey and curling. Canadian owners... Service is good, by Sayulita standards. The staff are very friendly and are suitably attentive, and seem genuinely proud of the restaurant and the food. Prices are on par or a little less than other restaurants I have visited on the coast, and to my mind excellent value for what you get. We have visited Tierra Viva in the past and loved their service location and Tortilla soup. We came back with our family and we were seriously disappointed. Wonderful people, outdoor dining, good menu and awesome chef! Our group of 6 adults, a toddler and a baby appreciated the waiter-- when he saw our hungry toddler was getting out of hand, he brought out his meal early and saved the evening. We loved the Cilantro dish, which was mahi mahi in a flavorful wine sauce over tons of grilled veggies. After doing much research for some "nice" dinner restaurants in Sayulita, this was high on the list. Oh and yes the other parameter was: must take credit cards. We were a group of 10, and it would be just easier to put the bill on a single credit card and deal with the allocations later. The dinner items were okay. The price for entree was average. Let's say it is cheaper than what a similar type establishment would charge stateside at any major metropolitan area. The one item that was apparently super rated on Tripadvisor was the "coconut shrimp." The first bite was good. It was like, okay yea this is tasty. I can get on board. However, after the first skewer, and onto the second skewer, the flavor notes were monotonous: sweet and coconut, that's about it. There was't much depth of flavors. The side veggies were okay. The guacamole was delicious, but seriously if you mess up guacamole in Mexico, you might as well just end it right there. I do wish there was more, and more chips also. The drinks were HUGE. $8 for big glass of freshly mulled mojitos. In summary, food was average. You are better off having tacos at a local taco stand. Basically that was the best meal of the whole trip - tacos from a taco stand. read more

We had a delicious dinner here- I got the Sayulita bruschetta- which was absolutely amazing- watermelon and feta with hints of basil and yummy olive oil... you must try, and the stacked vegggie salad- with squash, corn, tomatoes, eggplant, and mozzarella- which had excellent smoky flavor as well! All wonderfully done and perfectly seasoned with delightfully flavored sauces. Service was great but it took a while for the food to appear. Live entertainment trumpet and guitar duo was fantastic. We ate an early dinner here today for my birthday. I love the location on a bustling corner, but not as busy or noisy as some of Sayulita's other intersections. It's open air design feels so light and airy without being in direct sun. Our server was Cesar, and he was truly hospitable and generous. He gave us the best advice on what to order, and what tequilas we would like based on our tastes. The fresh, pulpy passion fruit margarita was awesome. Dripping with the sweet and sourness of the fruit, and kicked up a notch with my upgrade to G4 Blanco tequila. Cesar brought out his 3 favorite reposados for my husband to try, and we couldn't believe how smooth they were! The chicken tostada was great...loved the shredded chicken and crunchy, fresh veggies. The tamarind mahi-mahi was so unique and tasty. The brownie is rich, dark, and gooey, exactly how I like it, (however the vanilla ice cream tasted old and was a bit chewy). We cannot wait to return and try more dishes, and we hope Cesar still works there when we do. read more

This place caught our eye as it have a beautiful lower dining area and an upper level lounge area. Menu looked creative. I ordered the coconut shrimp which was good overall, however the sides of rice and vegetables were smaller in portion than I expected. Good service and nice it's a little away from the square so not as loud. However my partner had the fajitas and did not like it at all. We didn't like the complimentary guacamole and chips - too spicy and no flavour. Not sure I would go back for the price but was a peaceful enjoyable first try. read more
