I have been to Tiger Den several times prior to this year. I remember the wait during peak hours. My recent visits were all during the closing time. The wait staff was very friendly and patient with me as they took orders. I particularly like to sit by the kitchen window because I get to see the actions. I came with 2 friends on 2 separate occasions . One was very talkative and one was a quiet one. The talkative one kept repeating the skewer items as he trying to decide what to order. Finally, he picked chicken with green onion. He was complaining about the dark sauce being overpowering the chicken. The quiet friend ordered chicken hearts and mushroom medley. He also ordered a miso ramen with chicken broth instead of pork. He loved them and he kept eating and not saying much. Except "mmm... I love it." I have tried Tsukemen (the one with meat gravy and ramen separately), chicken ramen and Vegan Ramen. I like all of them, except the meat gravy from Tsukemen was super spicy. When I read the description, it didn't say pepper. But later found out the spicy icons hidden from the background plus the reflection of the menu made it hard to read. I recommend the non-pork options. I avoid eating pork, especially at the ramen restaurants. Because they bring out the pork flavor so seriously. I am not fond of pork. I'm glad they can substitute pork with chicken on the ramen menu.
I think I went in with very high expectations because of how hyped this place was, and that affected my judgment. The restaurant was a bit cramped, but we were served pretty fast. The ramen is supposed to be the star of the show, but left me disappointed. The broth was on the bland side, and the toppings were a bit lacking. I had to add extra chili flakes and salt to mine. Not the worst bowl of ramen I've had, but the flavor of the broth is close to last place for me. The karaage was a redeeming factor though, among the best in texture that I've had.
Heard good reviews here so decided to stop by for dinner. My partner and I were quickly seated as it wasn't packed on a Thursday night. There was lots of seating even tables for large groups, booth, and single. The staff were super nice and friendly. For starters we order the lamb and mushroom Yakitori along with the spicy cucumber. The spicy cucumber were nice and refreshing yet had a nice kick to them so I definitely recommend. As for the Yakitori, I say pass on those as the lamb were too chewy and salty and mushroom were too charred to where that's all you could taste. For main, I ordered the Spicy Miso and my partner got the Garlic Black Bean. The Spicy Miso was flavorful, creamy, had a little kick to it, and the ramen noodles were chewy and perfectly cooked. As for the Garlic Black Bean though it was nice, it tasted kind bland and wished it had a little for of the garlic flavor. Overall, good place though some menu items were a miss but I definitely recommend the spicy cucumber and spicy miso ramen.
Tiger Den has always been one of the most hyped ramen places in Houston for a very long time. It used to be one of the most popular ramen spots with long waiting lines, but it hasn't been as busy these days due to competition around town. I finally had the chance to try it recently for a Friday dinner for two, and the restaurant was not busy. The restaurant's ambiance was dark and moody. We were seated pretty quickly, and our server was nice. Our foods didn't take long to come out after we ordered either. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen, Takoyaki, and Chicken Kaarage. I think the best dish of the night was definitely the Chicken Karaage. It was tender, light, crispy. The Takoyaki was good with a great amount of octopus pieces in the filling. The Tonkotsu Ramen, however, was underwhelming. The broth was bland and not very rich, and the toppings were pretty lacking. Overall, this was about a 3.2 out of 5 for me. I would not mind eating at Tiger Den again, but I would definitely not go out of my way to come back, especially when there are so many other ramen options around town that I like so much better.
Gone here countless of times. Always 5/5 service, food, price. Just go, what are you waiting for?? Food They are all good if you like spicy: tsukemen (dipping noodle) burn your booty hole spicy but SOOO worth it! If you like unami flavorful: tonkatsu or any other noodles tbh. Even the most basic shoyu is stellar. If you can squeeze desert get the PANDAN DONUTS. Trust the cream and airy donut is A NICE MOUTH FEEL. Crispy airy, creamy and subtly sweet with hint of coconut. AMAZING. Parking I went on a week night and we did not have to wait outside, infact an employee came to get me but I was waiting for a friend. On the weekends you may have to place your name outside and they will call y'all in as it gets packed.
My daughter suggested this place because we both love ramen...her and her friends went and they really enjoyed it so I said why not give it a try....I did and I loved it went by myself for a lil solo date...its small and intimate and can get very pack on a Saturday evening...my only issue is that it's very dim so it was very hard to read the menu...but overall i loved the food...the pho was good and hot the calamari was fresh and the beef satay was very flavorful and the tender...I also had the green tea which was good as well....I will definitely go back with my daughter the next time
Tiger Den delivers some of the best ramen in Houston, with rich, flavorful broths and perfectly chewy noodles. The Dipping Ramen and Spicy Miso Ramen are standout options. Don't skip out on their charcoal-grilled yakitori skewers, especially the beef tongue and pork belly. Pandan custard doughnuts for dessert. Do I need to say more? Trust me when I say they are a must. The cozy, lively atmosphere feels like a true Japanese izakaya. Expect a wait, but it's well worth it for the bold flavors and authentic experience!
Tiger Den used to be theeeeeee OG spot but the competition is fierce these days. I remember just loving the noodles and broth and this time around it all felt a bit pedestrian. The noodles were still good but the broth for the black bean and Tonkotsu were kinda plain and forgettable. Service was stellar, they made sure to check up on us and our daughter. Our waiter even helped us pack our ramen as we were struggling a bit with our toddler. Don't. Sleep. On. The. Pandan. Donuts. They still hit every time.
Located at the busy Dun Huang Plaza where foot traffic is heavy, there are customers coming in and out of Tiger Den at a frequent basis. Interior of the restaurant is simple and nice. There are many customers' paper drawings on display at the entrance. They are having a limited time Happy Hour promo now - buy a bowl of ramen and get half off an appetizer or dessert. Part of the Happy Hour promo also includes buy one sake and get the second half off. My family and I got the tsukemen ramen, Tonkatsu, and garlic black bean ramen. I enjoyed the tsukemen ramen as it had the right amount of spice and it was flavorful. However, the other two ramen bowls didn't have strong flavor soups. I am also not a big fan of cabbage in the ramen. The ika geso was crispy, while the Brussels sprouts were just ok. I also had the lamb, and ribeye yakitori. They were good but the lamb skewer could be better if the wasabi mayo was actually on the meat, not on the side. I received great service today. The servers were friendly and attentive.
Challenging to find in the shopping center full of restaurants. Thanks for choosing the smallest font for the sign people. Inside was clean, not too crowded. Tastefully decorated. Wait time was minimal- there was a sign up outside. Service was good. Food came out quickly. The octopus appetizer was flavored well. The Brussel sprouts I inhaled. Yum! I think I ordered the wrong entree- did not enjoy the bean ramen. But I think that was a me thing. The rest of my party enjoyed their ramen and wings.
It is a small place surrounded by many other Chinese places. Yelp said it was good so I tried it out. it was small inside but at 10 pm on a Tuesday night it was not too busy. Not many places stay open to 11 so that is a big plus. I order Ramen and it was great. The service was also wonderful. read more

Best spicy miso I've ever had. This is a dipping ramen and the flavors from the broth stuck to the cold noodles so well. We went back a second time and there will probably be a 3rd,4th,5th etc. best ramen ever. read more
One of my friends from Houston suggested we go to Tiger Den. It's a small place with a chill atmosphere. The food came out a lot faster than I thought it would, in no particular order. So everything was on the table at once. I would have preferred being able to enjoy the starters first because we had three different ones, but not the worst thing to happen. WOW. Best ramen, Best gyoza ever. My husband has been trying to get me to come here for a while but for one reason or another we just never made it. I'm sorry I waited so long. The service was amazing. The food was delicious. They don't have an overly large menu which I really appreciate because the food that is on their menu is very delicious. We had the gyoza and it was so good that we ordered 2. I ordered the Tsukemen ramen. It was spicy and delicious and perfect. My husband had a few of the yakitori skewers. He had the gizzard and the chicken. They were amazing also. We will definitely be back. Also the vibe here is very chill. The music was good. read more

While the food was delicious and filling (I absolutely failed to get photos of the appetizers, but we also had the cucumber, pork belly, and gyoza), and the ambiance was nice - possibly a little dark depending on which side you were on - it absolutely sucked to feel a bit rushed. I'm not sure if it's because we went in early, so the servers had time to constantly come by the table, or if they just wanted a quick turn over, but I definitely felt like I was eating entirely too slow. This place is really nice and cozy, they have good music and the actual restaurant is really cool. They were short staffed when I went so I don't blame the service on the waiter at all. The food was really great I had the spicy miso and my boyfriend got a Ramen that started with a T but he preferred mine so I definitely recommend the spicy miso. read more
I heard this is the OG ramen spot in Houston, but I really am not a fan. I ordered their tonkatsu ramen, and my boyfriend ordered their veggie shoyu ramen. The broth for the tonkatsu isn't that bad, but it definitely doesn't warrant a mention for one of Houston's best ramen places. It lacks a lot of the richness and fattiness that good tonkatsu ramen places have. I do enjoy their noodles, however. My boyfriend's veggie shoyu..was basically veggie water. It was pretty bland and the noodles that came with it were also too chewy and almost tasted undercooked. I wouldn't come back again. read more

This place does get pretty busy, glad I was lucky to come at a time when it wasn't. I mainly wanted to eat Ramen and they definitely had a good variety of other appetizers and entrees to eat. I went for the Tonkotsu Ramen, full of flavor, from the broth to each item in the bowl. I think this is my favorite Ramen spot in Houston now. read more
Tiger Den used to be a staple in the Dun Huang plaza--lines out the door, constant in and out of customers--but I fear the food is not as it used to be. For appetizers, the takoyaki seemed like it was cooked from frozen, and the presentation stacked on top of each other in a bowl was not appetizing. Their lamb could use some work, was overcooked on the grill and still lacked char. Wasabi mayo was decent, but I think could benefit from more wasabi, or maybe instead a cumin lamb option. The ramen itself was ok. It didn't feel harmonious, again with sloppy presentation. The broth, which has a tonkatsu base, was milky but not creamy and rich. Sesame seeds and fried garlic flakes felt like a distractor to the mediocre broth. With so many ramen options in Houston nowadays, it's hard to find a reason to return to Tiger Den. However, the service was very attentive, and they are always on their feet helping customers. read more

Place has always been my "good ramen" go-to. Always great to bring new friends or family here. Love the spicy miso, gyoza, and the meat skewers. Always looking forward for the good food. Waiters always good at picking up as you go and very good at making sure you're not choking by always staying on top of the drink refills. read more

The place was very packed and there was a line outside when I was there, so I had high expectations. Overall I would say that this place is pretty decent for ramen. It might also depend on what you get; I heard the spicy one is really good (but I can't handle that so i got tonkotsu) . I think that my favorite part would be the soup. They also put a decent amount of veggies in the soup, which is surprising for ramen. I was impressed by that. Also maybe something to note: the lighting is quite dim in there. read more
I don't love ramen like those around me but I thoroughly enjoy coming here for their other items. If you are like me, I recommend the ika geso, brussel sprouts, ribeye skewers, and spicy cucumber. Save some room for the to die for pandan custard doughnuts! That's probably my biggest reason why I come here, ITS THAT GOOD! While others complain of the long lines and knock off stars for this reason, I find it ridiculous. They are that good and space and staff is therefore limited. That's beyond their control. Stopped by here on a Saturday night around 9 PM. It was very busy... There was a piece of paper taped to the outside window where you had to write your own name down. When we were finally seated the waiter did not seem to want to answer many questions and seem to want to rush us. The food was OK... We ordered a lot and tried a lot of different things. I'm so glad Americans are now waking up to how awesome izakayas are. Also if you're not quite familiar with places like these. The main courses are not the center of attention here, it's the small stuff. Little plates that goes super well with beer drinking and conversation stuff. The stuff that makes me go, " Ooh la la!" Let's get started shall we. Brussel Sprouts: One of the most hated veggies in the past has come a very long way. These bad boys here are mind numbing good. Takoyaki: The things I order to reminisce my adventures in japan. These boys are actually very good. Makes my mouth happy. Pork Maw: Skewered and grilled over coal is pure destruction. Love the smoky flavor and that sauce tho. Grilled Squid: Ika is the Japanese name and yes,, you can keep that basic bish calamari and give me this all day instead. Super yummy! Pork Belly: Cut up into bite size pieces, these guys are the perfect vessel for smoke and char. Plus all that pork fat flavor just erupts in your mouth. It's definitely a sensation I enjoy all the time. Chinese Donuts with Pandan Dip: On paper, this sounds pretty good. But its alright,, not my favorite thing in the world. #WeakSauce The setting is pretty nice. The smell of char and smoke billows into the dining area is super pleasant. This place is popular in Belliare so I would come here as soon as they open or when it not rush hour. The line can form pretty quick. The ramen options are good like about 10ish ramens to choose from. They even have a meatless ramen option. I got the black garlic bean ramen. it was okay. I would get this if you are feeling a light broth. The only thing i didn't like about this ramen is that the garlic pieces you bite into are really bitter and kind of ruins the whole ramen. I think adding the spicy miso paste to the ramen brings depth to the broth. My boyfriend got the tseukmen. The dipping ramen. That was the better option. It had really good rich flavors. The egg in it is just right but it can be a bit too rich in my opinion sometimes. We also got the Brussel sprouts and whole grilled teriyaki squid. The brussels sprouts were good the sauce they used in it was perfect. The grilled squid has a squid taste to it so beware if you're not used to grilled squid flavors. it reminds me of vietnamese grilled squid flavors. read more

Tasty food, fast, and good value! The tonkatsu ramen was good- noodles freshly made and al dente- broth a little bland. The skewers were great- shrimp and churn with onion were favorites. The squid has good quantity but needs to be grilled so it's crispy - actually tastes like it's broiled abs it's dished in sauce. Casual place with a short wait, but list outside. read more

After hearing rave reviews and then the sudden influx of cold weather, I finally decided to try out Tiger Den! Thankfully, it did not disappoint! The line was a little long to get in but the wait went quickly. I ordered the tantan-men ramen and we received our food within 10 minutes! The ramen was delicious and the perfect level of spice. We got there just in time (they just ended their waitlist), and were seated quickly. Server was so nice and attentive. Got our drinks quickly. We ordered goyza, spicy miso, skewers and tonkonstu. The tonkonstu broth was bland; nothing to write home about (the reason for 4/5 stars). However, the spicy Miso is something to return time and time again. It was delicious! So were the goyza and the skewers! Next time we come back we are ordering 2 spicy miso's! read more
A year ago I tried the tantan-men and thought it was good but not life changing. Today I ordered the SPICY MISO RAMEN and thought the same thing. I felt that it could've been more flavorful / richer. Also it was barely spicy, and they couldn't sub the chashu for minced pork either. Maybe I prefer the tantan-men, but it's been so long so I don't know. Also prices have increased again (covid?). It used to be $11.50, now it's $12.50. The main reason I don't get ramen often is that it's expensive. I tried the Brussels sprouts appetizer ($5), now that was good! I've also had the grilled octopus (takowasa) and the pandan custard doughnut, both of which aren't good enough to get again. There are much better desserts closeby. Still had a short wait during covid, ramen comes out fast but not really hot, service is a bit slow, & some ppl in the kitchen weren't wearing masks. It's good for a ramen craving once in awhile, but I wouldn't go out of my way. I still prefer Ramen Bar Ichi or Ramen Tatsuya (in Austin, never tried it in Houston yet). read more

Finally give this place a try, I've come to the plaza many times but this is the very first time I went to this restaurant. Love the atmosphere here. It looks like a cool bar to me. Service was fine. There was only one server when we arrived but he was pretty attentive and the food came out fast. I tried the dipping noodles and to be honest, I'm not a fan. The soup was great but the noodles tasted a little raw and under-cooked to me. It would be better if they blanched the noodles more thoroughly before served. The Garlic Black Bean was good. The soup was flavorful and the portion was generous. I'll be back and try more of their noodles read more

In an overeager attempt to bypass the hour-plus long wait, my parents swung by Tiger Den 15 minutes before they opened at 4:45PM. They were proudly the first ones to put their names on the list and the first to be seated. Unfortunately, we had just finished lunch that day around 1PM, so we weren't very hungry. As a result, we ordered everything but the ramen at supposedly one of the best ramen restaurants in Houston. We ordered a couple dishes here and there as if they were tapas and our waiter politely thought we were crazy as he kept coming by to ask if we wanted to order ramen. For a restaurant that is famous for ramen, everything else we ordered was phenomenal. The skewers were all tender and accompanied by a fun dipping sauce that suited the seasoned meat well. The wasabi mayo of the lamb skewers was mild and added just enough flavor without overpowering the natural flavors of the lamb. It was easy to tell that the quality of the black angus ribeye skewers was excellent. The beef tongue was an interesting dish that tasted like flattened beef to the untrained palate, but was delicious as well. The chicken wings were also yummy though didn't stand out quite as much as the other meat items. My absolute favorite from that night was the pandan custard doughnuts. The actual doughnuts are like cut up fried Chinese crullers (youtiao) but with more of a croissant/puff pastry texture. The pandan custard dipping sauce is rich and just sweet enough that you could drink the sauce. read more

It forms pretty quickly. I suggest be there right at 5pm when they open, there will be little to no wait.
Can I order to-go or do they accept call in orders?
I just placed an order for pickup. I placed the order at 6:15 pm on a Saturday, and they said it would be ready in 30 minutes.
