A good ramen spot in the Chinatown area. I came on a day where there was a special going on but just FYI: I do not think they sell robata items anymore. Place is surprisingly bigger than I thought (literally thought it was just a few tables but there's actually a whole other area) so that's a plus. Parking is a little difficult to find being in a busy plaza but you'll eventually find one. Ramen is great overall. Got the Tamashi Menn (I think it's their special?) and dipping ramen and would definitely recommend it. Appetizers were good but the edamane might have been in the steamer/boiler for too long because they were kind of soggy. Other than that, everything else was well-portioned and good tasting. This place is a favorite of mine! They've got a few locations around Houston, but I think the bellaire location is their most consistent. Service here is always great, staff always make sure waters are filled and check up on guests at a good rate. The restaurant is spacious and has a decent amount of seating. My favorite dish to order is their spicy miso ramen, but what I will note is that Tamashi's ramen leans on the heavier side so take that into consideration and be aware of if you're looking for a lighter meal or not. Prices are fair here, i'd say I usually spend somewhere between $15-20 on a bowl. I'd say it's in my running for best ramen in town, but I'm still doing my research. Food was out fast within ten minutes but we were the only people seated at that point. The takoyaki was decent, had a crisp exterior with soft octopus on the inside. This place has some GREAT ramen! Although, I only got take-out and ate it the next day, it was delish! I'm sure it's even better if you dine in I got the tonkotsu ramen ($14), which is cheap. Everything else here was reasonably priced too. I should have ordered more dishes! The best part of the ramen was the broth. I had it in the fridge overnight, and when I took it out, the soup was completely gelatinous. This may sound gross to you, but it's a good thing, and it's exactly what you want. It becomes liquid again once you heat it up, so no worries! When the broth becomes gelatinous after cooling, it means that it's not diluted down with water and consists of a rich broth. They're not skimping. You see, to make good tonkotsu pork broth, you need to cook the bones for hours (days, really) to get the fats/collagen/etc. out of the bones and emulsify it into the liquid of the broth. The emulsification is what creates the creaminess in the broth and the fats/collagen become solid when it cools. So, the solidification and gelatinous nature of a cooled ramen broth is totally normal and it's actually what you need for that delicious taste! The flavor was so deep and rich, so creamy, and really hit the spot when I was craving ramen! Just so you know, if broth isn't the highlight of your dining experience when you eat ramen, the other components of the ramen were excellent too! The chashu pork in the ramen was perfect, it was SO soft that it was just about falling apart when you merely pick it up. You know they rendered the fat properly when it's that tender! The ajitama egg was perfectly boiled too with semi-solid yolk that's not overcooked. The noodles were good, no complaints. This is the spot to go for cheap awesome eats! I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in town again! read more

The presentation of the takoyaki in a bowl leads to some pieces having a lot of sauce/mayo/bonito flakes while others not as much. The ramen broth is very salty, a little too salty. For one, their ramen is reasonably priced. I've seen some outrageous prices for ramen around town. Here, for $12, one can get a great bowl of miso, shoryu, or tonkatsu ramen. Of course, one can add on additional toppings to one's liking. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and it was very enjoyable. I visit and enjoy Tamashi at least 1-3 times a month and it never disappoints. I've been supporting since their location in Bellaire first opened, but I was first introduced at the Holcomb location. I recently visited on May 3rd, it was a Saturday. Idk what happened this day but the flavor and richness was reminiscent of the first time I ever tried their ramen. I just want to give my kudos to whoever was working that night especially since I arrived 30 minutes before closing (my apologies). They were able to deliver above and beyond. The menu is quite extensive, if you aren't feeling ramen you may very well get any of the sushi or meal plates. But for this review I'm sticking to the ramen. I ordered the Spicy (mild) Tonkasu ramen and extra chashu pork on the side. What I love about it here is you can customize it as you see fit! Don't like the black fungus or bamboo shoots?
