    Spicy tuna rolls
    Nicole H.

We have gone here 3 or 4 times now when visiting friends in the area, and are always happy. The hamachi sashimi is fresh and tender, and we also enjoy the spicy tuna and spider rolls. The place itself is bright and clean and service is friendly. It's a solid choice for sushi in the area.

I'm so happy to have found this place down the street from my job! Found it on Google, decided to try it for a birthday lunch for my daughter. I contacted the restaurant ahead of time for a question and the host was so helpful and kind. Upon arriving, the restaurant was very clean and quite; service was prompt and extremely accommodating! It was not very busy, not sure why for a Friday but the food was perfect! Our server, Tom was absolutely the BEST; he made our lunch fun and was still very good at his job! Thank you so much for the great food, the kind staff; we will absolutely be coming back! We tried a variety of items such as the spicy edamame, katsu, the angry bird sushi and the Osaka roll...all very good! Thank you!!

I was in the area and needed to pick up dinner for the family. Sushi is one of every one's favorite so I pulled into the parking lot, made an online order for everyone and went inside to pick up. Food was good, portions are big, and service was fast & professional!!

The service could be a little better but in all wasn't that bad. (the waitress we had was a little bit slow that's all.) The shaggy roll and the La La roll was definitely delicious.

King Salmon Nigiri 2pcs and Viking Roll so yum, melts in your mouth!

Honestly such a YUM sushi spot! Came here twice for lunch! The staff are so friendly, and the rolls are GORGEOUS and sooo delicious. The inside is beautifully decorated. Don't let the outside strip mall vibe fool you, it's very clean inside, and the food is FRESH! The king salmon nigiri melts in your mouth The Spicy Toro Maki is to die for (reason why I came back the second time) The Viking roll was ALOT like delicious but it was a mouth full I have an idea of what rolls I want to try next! Thanks y'all!

I wasn't expecting the ambiance to look very aesthetic and cozy. Staff was nice and helpful. The food was affordable and had lots of options. I honestly was not expecting a 5 star rating out of me today. Sushi was immaculate and fresh. The rolls we ordered were delicious. My favorite of today were the viking roll my sister ordered. Their basic rolls are tasty too. Definitely will return to try their other menu items like the poke and noodles.

This was not my first time visiting Izakaya Hi. There's a reason why I keep coming back. The food is always delicious and affordable, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the space is very clean and spacious. They even have karaoke rooms available! It's a great place for tapas and sushi.

Was looking for a sushi spot to try in the area and nothing really came up besides the usual Izakaya Wa (on Boheme). I'm not sure what affiliation (if any) that Izakaya Hi has to that one but it was one of the higher reviewed spots around here. Located on Westheimer is a sleepy looking plaza; there's plenty of parking out front. The interior is very clean and spacious and very empty for lunch service. Immediately it looked like fusion was going to be more out front than the extremely authentic vibe, which is fine. Service was great, our server was very friendly. The menu is huge. Like walls of text and pages of front and back. There's probably over 30 rolls alone, which are somewhat all similar and somewhat all different in one regard or another. There's also Japanese, Korean, robata, and other Japanese diner foods; the menu felt slightly overwhelming. We got brussel sprouts, takoyaki, and some yellowtail sashimi for apps. I was not a fan of their brussel sprouts; they looked great but their sauce was lacking and I expected some kind of a sweet and sour soy based sauce to go with it. The takoyaki lacked the tako part and was 99% batter. The Kewpie mayo was also just a fat line squeeze from the bottle which reminded me a bit of the Halal Guys white sauce experience. The yellowtail sashimi plate had good flavor but the knife work on the hamachi was a bit interesting; thick and uneven slices on all 7-8 slices of fish. We got a couple of the rolls recommended (Lollipop roll and I can't remember the other one exactly). They were definitely a fusion style and were fine. We got some nigiri to round out the meal; akami, chutoro, scallop, red snapper, foie gras, uni, and unagi. The tuna tasted fresh, the scallop was solid was well but the chopped scallop mix sauce could use a bit of work; maybe a spice element or acidic element to help it out. The foie gras was probably the best thing in our meal; it came with a quail egg cooked perfectly over easy and was A1. The uni was west coast uni and was fresh and tasty. Overall, is this the most authentic spot or high end sushi joint ever? No, but if you choose and order carefully, you can definitely have a delicious meal in an area of town with limited sushi options. We had some hits, some misses, and some meh's but if we ordered a bit differently next time, it'll definitely be 4/5 for flavor instead of a 3.5/5. The menu is huge and overwhelming and I would recommend slimming it down to make inventory count more manageable and class up the menu a bit.

We visited Izakaya Hi for lunch recently and had a great first experience. My husband and I shared the shrimp tempura, spicy salmon roll, and curry rice with pork Katsu. It was the perfect amount of food for a filling lunch, and everything was delicious! The salmon tasted very fresh. My favorite dish would have to be the curry rice, which was so flavorful and went so well with the crispy pork Katsu. The service and ambiance were great as well. We hope to go back soon!

Great ambiance, food, & service! Looking for sushi in this area, I found Izakaya Hi on Westheimer with over 1000 pictures. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not crowded, however I did visit at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, so it makes sense it's not crowded on a Sunday before the school week. Greeted promptly and I chose to sit at the bar, there was one other couple at the bar, enjoying their experience. I chose a glass of Salon blanc,Goyza, spicy edamame to start. I was looking for a Maki roll and was thinking I would order Godzilla, Hawaiian, or Osaka roll. I ended up with the August special Re-Mix Roll!

Calamari Tempura - what's left of it!
    Alice H.

Still frequent this place and it's consistently good! Our favorites these days are the calamari tempura, Korean bbq short ribs, and the beef soft tofu stew. All 5+/5 and must try!! The calamari is nothing like the rings you'd usually expect. They're delicately fried little pieces and still tender. Paired with a sweet/spicy sauce and I gobble this up every time. The short ribs come out on a sizzling plate and is a meal in itself. The flavor and tenderness of the meat makes this a winner. Then the beef soft tofu pot... great when you're craving something piping hot. It comes out boiling and is great on rice. Note it is a bit spicy but just in the tolerable range for me. Tofu super soft and plenty of beef. Service is still great and the place is always clean.

    Chicken Teriyaki
    Tiffini D.

3.5 stars! I had hi hopes for this place. I see it promoted on yelp and I've seen insta foodies post about it, so one Friday I popped in at lunchtime. There is outdoor seating as well as plenty inside, and a bunch of people eating on their break from work. My server was attentive and provided recommendations, and I settled on the takoyaki and the chicken teriyaki bento. Sadly, the takoyaki tasted like it was not made fresh and wasn't warm so the bonito flakes didn't dance. I've definitely tasted much better. The bento came and was a good amount for the price, but the rice was a bit too undercooked and the gyoza again seemed previously frozen. The chicken was good and the salad fresh. It's good for a quick lunch stop or a quick late dinner, but there are too many greater options nearby for me to stop in again anytime soon.

    Shrimp Tempura Roll
    Ambreen K.

Shaggy dog - 9/10 Shrimp tempura roll - 8.5/10 La la roll - 9/10 One of the better sushi spots ive tried in town. All the rolls were cooked well and flavorful! I would recommend going during their happy hour They have so many menu items to choose from and also have private karaoke rooms!

After being seated, I informed the waiter that I would place a to-go order instead. About 20 minutes later, our food was ready. At that point, our daughter woke up, so we hoped to continue dining in as originally planned. I politely asked the waiter if we could finish our meal there. We didn't expect him to continue serving us--we simply wanted to sit and eat the food we had ordered. I had already tipped him on the to-go order. His response was blunt and shocking: "No, you have to leave. The table was given to someone else for a 7:30 reservation." There was no attempt to find a solution or offer an alternative--just a direct order to leave. This was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not busy, and there were outdoor tables and other seating available. We felt incredibly insulted by the attitude. When we spoke to the manager, he simply repeated that the table was reserved and backed up the waiter, without suggesting another table or even asking us to wait for the next available one, until we brought up the point that he could have asked if we have an option to wait for the next table?? Then the manager went ok do you want to have another table just because we asked. What stood out most wasn't the reservation issue, but the complete lack of hospitality, flexibility, or basic courtesy. This experience spoke volumes about the customer service here, and unfortunately, it's the reason we won't be returning.

The pepper tuna tataki and hamachili were fresh and flavorful. The karaage was crispy, tender and juicy, and the agedashi tofu had that perfect texture in a savory broth. All were sooo good. The Zen Mega Dragon roll, hamachi hamachi roll, and Extra Picante roll were all fresh and excellent. The only two dishes that didn't quite wow us were the hijiki and the Rock N Roll roll. Both were a bit basic compared to everything else on the table. The yakisoba noodles did take a little while to come out, but wow... they were soooo worth the wait. Savory, hot, and incredibly satisfying. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, which makes it even better. There is free parking, but the lot is small. I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and had to wait outside in Houston's summer heat 93'F. While there are a few benches, there is very little shade, and guests are not allowed to wait inside. When the restaurant opened, there was no clear system for seating guests. Even though I was first in line, several people rushed in ahead of me, making the process feel disorganized. The biggest issue involved a $300 gift card that my friend had received years ago. She simply asked the staff to check the balance. When the server returned, he told us the manager had cut the card in half and that the entire balance had to be used during that visit. What bothered me was the lack of communication. We were never informed of the policy before the card was invalidated. If that is the restaurant's policy, it should be explained clearly beforehand. As two ladies having lunch, spending $300 was difficult, so we ended up ordering far more food than we normally would. The sashimi was fresh but cut thinly than what I've had at comparable restaurants. The hamachi kama, chirashi, and lobster mac and cheese were good. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was the biggest disappointment. For $10, it consisted of three very small cubes and felt overpriced. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly and professional, which helped salvage the experience. However, between the uncomfortable wait outside, the chaotic seating process, and the poor handling of the gift card, this visit did not live up to my previous experiences. While I have many good memories of Kata Robata, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.

Ever crave late-night ramen? After a pool party and some beers, we needed to replenish our salt…read morecontent... so Rakkan it was. Sushi Flight (6 Pieces, 4 Flavors) - Somehow 1,050 calories??? - Raw Salmon x2 - Strangely, I would have liked this colder. It was just okay. - Cooked Salmon x2 - I liked this a lot more than the raw salmon because it had a deeper flavor. - Scallops - Probably my favorite thing on this platter because of the smokiness they imbue with the torching. The sweet aftertaste was definitely worthwhile. - Shrimp - Not as fresh as I would have liked, as someone who's eaten a lot of shrimp, but I still liked the taste. Still, pretty mediocre. Tantan Tsukemen - Very interesting broth. Potent, salty, and full of bold flavor. My friend swapped the pork for chicken, and the chicken worked really well with the broth. They serve the chicken as a cold cut. This is a double-noodle dish with a soy milk-based dipping sauce. I normally would have ordered this because I LOVE tantan ramen, but I had to forgo it for the limited-time Creamy Truffle Ramen. Creamy Truffle Ramen - LOVED the broth. It was very light and creamy. I actually liked this a lot more than tonkotsu ramen. The truffle wasn't too overwhelming--just mild enough to hint at its flavor without becoming the only flavor profile you get. Truffle is like baking with rose water; finding that balance is quite hard. I will admit the whole table smelled like truffles, though. The torched king oyster mushroom paired wonderfully with the dish, and the broccolini was an equally interesting topping choice. I also found bits of melted Parmesan throughout the ramen, which the menu listed as an ingredient. The egg wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still a decent soy egg. As I kept eating, the truffle oil became more intense, and the fattiness started to get a bit overwhelming without washing it down with water. Great flavor overall, but I think this dish is best paired with an appetizer to help cut through the richness. One of my favorite things about this place, which my BF mentioned, was the noodle texture. I noticed it too as I ate--a good bite with a slick texture that was just starchy enough to cling to the broth. We had leftover noodles from the Tantan Tsukemen at the end of the meal and ended up using the Creamy Truffle broth as a dipping sauce. Honestly, no regrets. The cold noodles didn't work quite as well in this dish, but the broth was definitely a banger. This was also the first ramen broth I couldn't finish but desperately wanted to bring home. (Obviously, I did.) Their to-go containers are surprisingly sleek, too. It's a weird thing to compliment, but I almost wanted to keep the container as much as the broth. Special comment on the utensils here--the soup spoons are ridiculously cute! Would love to have a similar set at home. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was thoughtful. The music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. They do play a lot of popular Japanese songs, so if you're an international music enthusiast, you'll appreciate hearing "Mayonaka no Door" by Miki Matsubara.

I love how Rakkan Ramen's broth is plant based, and it really does taste a bit lighter and cleaner…read more I'm a sucker for specials, so I went with their summer Spicy Tantan Tsukemen, which was pretty good. Note that it's double portion of noodles, so come hungry for this one. I'm also super happy that you can swap pork for chicken. My friends are also apparently suckers for specials and went with the Sushi Flight and the Creamy Truffle ramen. There was no wrong pick for any of us today. I'll definitely will need to come back and try their other dishes!
