A disgruntled person who lost money due to one of your reports would be a convenient explanation for my review of you. That is not the case here. I wrote my review as a public service to others. By the way, if this negative review of you should be ignored because the person writing it is not a verifiable client of yours, who is to say the people with names like Regular J. and Mh M were your actual clients writing honest reviews? One reviewer said you gave them names of contractors to contact which seems unethical if you are the one telling them they need to fix something. It is obvious from your response you were not an English teacher. Your "poor me" tirade is littered with misspellings and run-on sentences. Also, it is "due diligence," not "due-diligent" and the phrase is not hyphenated. Since you are so fond of seminars, perhaps you should take a couple on grammar and punctuation so the reports you generate will be readable. There are no nefarious reasons for the review I gave and your attempt to try to tie it to phantom people out there who lost money and have an axe to grind is laughable. If you feel I was wrong in the way I evaluated your lack of skills, you were certainly free to correct the record with your response. You did not even attempt to refute what I said about your paper thin credentials. Instead, you rambled on about people's rights and then you just reiterated what I had said about the importance of hiring a qualified inspector when purchasing a house. Being a licensed inspector does not automatically make you a qualified inspector. There is a very distinct difference. There are many good inspectors out there that know their stuff. You are just not one of them. You obtained a license to be an inspector by listening to online seminars and it is really a shame that both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of Rhode Island set such a low bar for issuing home inspector licenses to people like you. It allows you and others to hold yourselves out to the public as experts, qualified to render opinions about all the important systems of a home. You just do not have the kind of experience you should have under your belt to be giving people such vital advice. You might be a very convincing and affable person but you are essentially a hack. When people hire a home inspector before making a home purchase, they should be getting opinions from real professionals who have a history in the building industry. They should not be getting half baked advice from a former math teacher who may have tinkered around his own house for years applying band aids to his pipes and electrical wires and who now thinks he's an expert. Simply put, you should be required to have years of experience in the building industry before you are issued a building inspector's license. It would be prudent for MA and RI to beef up their requirements for home inspectors so people like Mr. Occhino are not allowed to take a couple of online seminars, pass a test, pay a fee, put up a fancy website touting their skills, and hold themselves out to the public as experts in everything from building integrity to plumbing and electrical wiring when they have never worked in that field. They also get to charge exorbitant fees that are not commensurate with their knowledge. In this case, you certainly do not get what you pay for. Anyone who thinks an online seminar can replace years of hands-on experience in the building industry is a fool. Mr. Occhino's decades spent in the high school math department falls far short of the requirements needed for professions like pipe engineer, master builders, electricians, and plumbers. Even general construction workers most likely have more knowledge than Guy Occhino because they are actually building the houses Occhino is supposedly qualified to inspect. Anyone deciding to buy a house or to not buy a house based on Mr. Occhino's advice should think twice. Or better yet, just hire a home inspector with the right credentials to truly inspect and evaluate your property. You are not going to class to listen to a former high school teacher educating you about a thermostat, you are buying a house. Dispense with Mr. Occhino's 4 or 5 hours of fluff and nonsense and hire an inspector who can determine whether or not the house you are about to buy is a sound investment.

He was patient, diligent, and detail oriented to the extent that he would "geek out" about small details that he appreciated about the house's build, such as the electrician properly removing a knob on the sub electrical switch box. His report was provided to us promptly the next day, and he expressed a willingness to work with the competing schedules of all parties involved. We had an initial conflict doing the radon test and he moved his schedule around to accommodate a time-sensitive task the builders needed to get done. John went up to each of 3 multi-unit buildings, taking photos from above and from different angles on the ground as well to provide a thorough report. He also gave some great advice about preventing water infiltration into the basement and siding repair when I asked. John was detail oriented, generous with providing information and assistance, and very easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend Barber Home Inspections, and would use them again if/when the need comes up in the future.

Doing a web search, Metro was one of many home inspection companies that had a straight-forward website and online booking. However, what set Metro apart from the others is that they listed the available days and time slots that they had inspectors available. They even had the name of the most probable (subject to change) inspector to make the appointment. That was important because I knew when the home we were considering was available to be opened, and I could quickly line up a day/time that worked out for both sides. After the appointment was set, I was called by one of the staff. She called to "talk me out of" the radon and pest inspection services (extra charge) because of the type of home and area it was located, those services were not valuable. The cherry on top was that for the month, they were giving a "gold" discount on the overall cost. Inspection went as planned and I received the final report by the end of the same day. I never had to state that I needed a quick turnaround, but I get the sense they knew based on the dates of our real estate transaction. Just superb service, and really made me feel I could not get as good of a service with any of the other inspection companies I was considering. If we ever buy another property in the metro Boston area, I'm using Metro 100%!

These guys are about to cost me over $2,200 in a missed roof inspection. Theuy claim thay only inspect roofs from binoculars on street level. I am in process of taking them to court. Below is the letter I sent to them. I hope no body has to go through this!!!!! They suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 To whom it may concern at Tiger Home Inspection, The reason I am writing to your company is to make you aware of a mistake that occurred on the inspection of the property I just purchased on March 25th. I had an Initial inspection by Eric Blatz, one of your representatives on 1/24/09. He initially could not inspect the roof due to snow cover. The age of the roof approaching 20 years created concern for me. Given that, I asked for a proper roof inspection due to snow cover on the roof. We had The Bell and Izzy Law firm located on Foster St. in Melrose, MA put money form the sellers account aside in escrow for any assumed damage until a second inspection of the roof could happen without snow. A second inspection occurred roughly 2 weeks later with result stating that a few shingles and nails need needed replacement. Basically, Eric stated that here was no need for major concern. On March 31st, I had my chimney and boiler serviced. At the end of my service, the representative form the company showed me pictures from the roof showing sever decay from rust from the chase cover. He also stated that there was no screen preventing birds form entering the chimney. He stated that my chase cover and roof are in need of repair before any more extensive damage occurs to my walls all the way down to my basement. He quoted me at an off season price of approx. $2,200. He said that during the on season an addition $500 will be added due to demand. These issues could have been dealt with by a proper initial home inspection and paid for out of escrow by the sellers. The representative from the chimney company specifically asked for the home inspection sheet before he notified me of the problem. I have tried contacting management 3 times since March 31st. Once on March 31st in the early afternoon, as well as twice on April 1st, once right after noon and once right before 5 PM. The only response I received was from your secretary that stated that your reps. are not allowed to go on roofs. Given those facts, I took the liberty of calling competitive companies to ask if this was commonplace. It seems that one does not even have to physically have to step onto the roof or chimney to attain the information that the chimney guy attained. Supposedly, a ladder and a mirror would suffice. Your secretary stated that all Eric did was view the roof and chimney from the street with binoculars. Hell, I could have done that! And I did. From the street I could see rust severe rust on the chase cover. Also, there is rust dripping form the cover on my driveway. These are two examples where you don't even need binoculars to observe. These two indicators could have been used to seek further inspection when needed before the purchase and sale was signed. According to these services cut and pasted from your public website, you claim service all of the following concerning home exteriors: * Condition of the roof surface * Exterior chimney * Exterior siding * Exterior trim * Exposed gutters and downspouts * Foundations and sills * Yard drainage and landscape * Basement entrance * Window wells * Exterior outlets and lighting * Any evidence of wood destroying insects * Ground pitch (making sure it is away from the home) * Exterior and interior of garage, decks, porches, walkways and driveways * Retaining walls Given these facts off of your web site, and the fact that the title of your company has HOME INSPECTION on its logo; what part of any roof of chimney is not part of a HOME. Bottom line: mistakes happen! We are all human! Even given the age old fact of human error, I should not have to pay for your company's mistakes. If these repairs are not taken care of by Tiger, I am given no choice but to take you to court. My time is precious as I am assuming yours is. Let's not waste it in a court room. I've used Tiger in the past and always got satisfactory results. However, they recently did an inspection of a mixed use property I purchased and although the inspector was friendly enough, he missed some huge problems. He pointed out that some of the vinyl siding needed to be replaced but he missed the 45x15 foot section of exterior wall that's heavily damaged due to water leakage. He missed the huge section of black mold that was growing inside the wall and all the carpenter ant damage. The only reason we found any of this is because we were running some wiring through part of the wall. Once exposed, I was literally able to push my finger through the exterior wall, which felt like wet paper it was so rotted. The studs, insulation, particle board... all of it has to be removed and replaced. Not only is this costing me a lot of money but it's also putting my completion date behind schedule. I understand the damage to the walls was concealed but my general contractor has pointed out that visual indicators of the hidden damage were easily seen by a trained eye. The wall was warped, some of the siding was hanging off slightly, there was visible mold at the bottom of the wall and a light fixture was hanging off the wall. In addition to all this, the decks weren't mounted to the side of the building with any flashing. That by itself isn't legal or up to code but in addition to all the other problems I listed above should have alerted the inspector that heavy damage was lurking under the siding. It would have been helpful knowing about this damage during my final negotiations on the building. I personally won't use Tiger again. read more

We heard great things and we are first time home buyers so we thought this the best decision. Our inspectors name was Henry and he was nice but we were completely disappointing with our inspection. There was ALOT of things outside the house that the inspector told us he couldn't tell because of the snow which we thought was understandable but it was almost half the report!! We were still billed full price. It was also clear that our report was copied and pasted from another old report. For example the inspector stated the cabinets were unfinished, loose and some had no knobs. There was brand new cabinets and kitchen put in prior to inspection. One of my favorite parts was he said he couldn't find the waste line in the report. Later that day we walked through the house with the contractor and it was a HUGE pipe down the side of the open basement wall in plain site. Another part if the report stated there was no laundry (washer and dryer) hook-up, when there was a brand new laundry room put in with all brand new hook-ups and waste line prior to inspection. He barely looked in the attic and made us worried about ventilation when all the proper ventilation was in place and clear site. My fiance actually had to point the vents out to the inspector by crawling up in the attic himself. Point being we paid full price for a half done job and half of some else's inspection report! As new home buyers we will think twice before calling tiger again. read more

My husband and I had our first ever home inspection yesterday with Steven, and were blown away by his service. He went over every INCH of the almost 2200sq ft house we're trying to buy, explaining everything he saw along the way. The inspection took about 5 HOURS, which might have been a little excessive, but I'm so happy knowing that the $395 we spent was well worth it. We basically got a crash course in home ownership and now, even if we end up backing out of this particular house, we will be so much more aware and educated for the next place we check out. He taught us everything about everything and found so many issues that the sellers were probably hoping would go unnoticed, which we would have found later down the road on our own and been crushed by. Now we know exactly what we're getting into and can make a much better, informed decision. Our realtor was incredibly impressed by how thorough Steven was, she kept saying that usually inspectors just go about their business and act like you're intruding if you try to include yourself in the process. Steven had my husband at his side the whole time, they were crawling into crawl spaces together and brainstorming solutions the whole time. It was very impressive. His report will be our major bargaining chip with this house and I'm so thankful for his thorough, extensive efforts for us. read more

We have purchased 5 homes so we have worked with Home Inspectors before. Please know that not all Inspectors are well trained nor do they all have comparative levels of expertise. During the course of purchasing a home in Massachusetts, we used Tiger Home Inspection twice. From the first phone call to Michele, we felt a level of comfort. She was extremely accommodating and more than willing to make an appointment for us that worked within our available time frames. She provided great customer service. Scott did our Home Inspection and was punctual, courteous, professional, knowledgable, and willing to answer all of our questions. His insight and thoroughness uncovered some very big ticket items that would have become huge issues for us had we purchased the property. Obviously, we didn't. The search went on and upon finding another property we immediately called Tiger. Sadly, Scott was unavailable but they were happy to accommodate us with another inspector named Paul. Paul did not disappoint. Tiger provided two excellent inspectors that took pictures and had a full, definitive report emailed to us the same afternoon. This is my opinion about Tiger Home Inspection. Do not hire Tiger Home Inspection! They do not stand behind their home inspection service. Tiger Home Inspection charged me almost $500 and missed several areas during their inspection, including a deck where my 4 year old son's foot almost went through one of the boards, due to many boards being rotted. I am talking about large rotted holes!!! An experienced home inspector should not have missed them! After giving us the runaround Tiger Home Inspection finally agreed to come "take a look" at the issues. A supervisor called me shortly before he was supposed to arrive to tell me that he would not be able to come because it was raining. I told him that it was very disappointing. His reply was "I am not going to risk my life driving to Amesbury". I had to take the day off from work so I could be home but he did not care. I told them that I would write reviews and let friends and family members know how unprofessional and unreliable they were. Their mistake not only cost me a day of work but now I will have to spend several hundred dollars to have the deck fixed and save. I wish I would never had hired Tiger Home Inspection. Tom was the inspector for our new home. He was at the property waiting when we arrived, about 15 minutes in advance of our appointment. He was professional, extremely thorough and knowledgeable throughout. He took his time to walk the exterior of the property and he patiently and thoughtfully evaluated the garage, basement and entire interior of the home. Most importantly to us, he answered any and all of our questions. He offered up suggestions and asked us questions when we did not realize that we even had a question to ask. He pointed out issues that should be addressed, but was sure to be clear, rather than alarmist when things could wait and when they should be a priority. He also pointed out the great things about the house, drawing our attention to excellent craftsmanship or when the sellers had made a particularly great enhancement to the home. In all,it was a super pleasant, really informative experience and I am so glad that Tom was our inspector. I feel like we will move into our new home with a solid foundation of information about its systems, benefits and quirks. Called Tiger Home Inspections on a Saturday evening to set up an appointment. The lady who answered was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Called back a couple days later with additional questions prior to my scheduled inspection date and a different lady answered. Glad to say her customer service skills were just as good. Finally, on inspection day we got Ralph. Our realtor had arrived early and shared that Ralph had arrived to the property early too! We weren't sure what to expect as first time homebuyers, but Ralph explained everything thoroughly throughout the entire process. He made his way into our new home's tiny attic entryway, patiently answered all our questions, took good photographs for the report, and provided useful insight in his full report (which was issued to us just a couple hours post inspection). After lots of research and careful assessment, I chose Kevin O'neill to inspect my brand new condo. He was extremely informative, careful and precise. Kevin knew exactly what he was doing, what to look for and where. He showed up on time and with a welcoming handshake and a smile (they go a long way these days!). He was able to easily identify external issues and to explain them to me in ways I would understand. Kevin was methodical and made sure he went through every part of my condo, including the small closets and other nooks and crannies. The best service I've had in a long time. Paul Capasso knew exactly what he was doing and what he was talking about during my home inspection. Paul made me confident and comfortable to proceed with my home purchase. Paul began inspecting the exterior of the house including the garage and shed, and crawling under the porches in order to check the structure, I was already impressed and knew I was in good hands at this point! Paul proceeded to inspect the basement and worked his way up to the attic of this 2 family home. Paul inspected every single corner of this home. Since we first had a great experience with Frank from Tiger Inspection, my family has been hiring Frank for every house purchase. Whether it was a single house, or a multi family investment property, whether the house is new construction or a 100 year old house, Frank never disappointed us. He always provided a thorough home inspection work. Frank always pointed out every problem he discovered, from small to large issues. He also explained well to every questions we asked. We have referred Frank to many friends and coworkers as well. My most recent experience with Frank's work was this past weekend's home inspection for a 3 family investment house in Boston. After my brother-in-law suggested a Tiger, I took his recommendation and that proved to be a wise decision. The inspector, Kevin Lemieux, clearly had the best interest of the buyer in mind. He covered every item in the checklist and went through the entire house with a fine tooth comb. We were nervous that they would breeze through the inspection and not inform us of potential problems, however this was absolutely not the case. After Kevin's inspection, we felt as though we knew about EVERYTHING, and because of that we were able to make a very informed decision about the home. Again, he clearly had the buyer's interest in mind, and took his time explaining things and answering questions over the course of the inspection 3-4 hours. Well worth what we paid. I have used them twice, 12 years apart and my experience was the same both times. The agent arrived early and got started and had already put notes into their computer (they brought a laptop with a electronic version of their report that they fill out on the spot, and type in details). Both times they looked and poked everywhere, and took their time. They filled out the report on-site. Told me what would need attention immediately and how long water heaters and other big ticket items have left in their life (roof). They emailed me the info I think same day, perhaps the next day, and provided the paper copy same day. I scheduled the review only a few days out, and pricing was on the low side compared to other companies (not the lowest). If I had the need I would use them again, or refer them to a friend that is in need. read more

I was referred to Tiger Home Inspection from a coworker and I am so glad I picked up the phone and called. During my call Kevin Gould, the inspector, was asking me questions about the property by just looking at the pictures. These observed concerns were confirmed during the in home inspection along with his many findings of safety issues. I am so glad he was there. I could have made an expensive mistake. Kevin was professional, thorough, patient with my questions, made it a point to find me and explain what he uncovered and very polite. The report he prepared was exceptional and contained everything we had discussed at the house. When I called to ask him questions he politely steered me to the location of the information in the report. He missed nothing. I am still looking for my dream home and Kevin will be my first call. read more

We had Tiger Home Inspection come and inspect the house that we bought in April of 2011. They were very thorough and spent about 3.5 house at the house with my husband. However they misses a lot of very expensive and major things that we have had to spend time fixing since we moved in. After we had the inspection and bought the house we found out that just because they are licensed "inspectors" does not mean they are licensed builders, electricians, or plumbers. Here is a small list of what they missed... New vinyl was not installed correctly causing severe rot and mold due to water leaking behind the vinyl 240 electrical line tied into 120 line No inside water turn off Severely leaking windings with rotting window sills Will be using someone else if we ever buy another house in the future. read more

I am not one to write reviews. I was so happy with Tiger Home Inspection I had to write a review. I was very nervous about making the appointment as I have been told about bad experiences. From the first step of calling them to the very end it was pleasant.. I made a appointment and asked if they received a cancellation to call us for a sooner appointment. I received a call a few hours later and was able to push our date up. During the day of the appointment Nicko arrived early and was ready to begin as long as I was ready, which I was. He allowed us to go through every inch of the home with us. He was knowledgeable and as we asked many questions he was happy to answer them. This is my first home purchase and Nicko made the experience excellent. Would recommend them anyone! read more

I highly recommend getting Kevin O'Neil as your inspector. He came early before the appointment to inspect the outside of the property! So considerate! Also he wrote the notes during the inspection so that he wouldn't forget all the details (we had an inspector do all of that at the end and felt like he missed some stuff). Also, Kevin is just a really great guy - while he was pointing stuff out he was very calm and soothing about it - which is important because as a potential buyer in this crazy market you're already anxiety-ridden about possibly losing the house over some crazy issue and having to fork over lots of money for repairs. A++! One star was docked off from Tiger because of a previous inspector that we weren't a fan of. read more

I worked in the real estate industry from 1994 to 2010 as an agent, manager, and trainer. I have seen dozens of home inspections first hand. Overall, Tiger is among the best -- though as with any company, there are a few bad examples. I recently purchased a home and Tiger was the first name I thought to call. As luck would have it, I was assigned John Brady. He was on time (actually about 10 minutes early), thorough, knowledgeable, and completely professional. He pointed out areas of concern but did not resort to scare tactics. He kept within the scope of a home inspectors role and did not try to give opinions about things beyond his purview. Ask for him by name but BOOK EARLY because he is one of the most requested! read more

My husband and I are first time buyers so we are very brand new to this. We recently had a home inspected that we are in the processes of buying. Steve Lombardi was our inspector and I cant say enough great things about him. He was laid back and very personable which made this process more enjoyable. We was at the home before my husband and I even got there, and we got there early. He greeted us as soon as we got there and explained what he would be doing. Throughout the inspection anything I didn't understand he was able to explain in more detail. He was very through and we could tell that he easily had years of experience behind him. I want to personally thank Jack Brown for doing the home inspection on a house I had an offer on. Jack went above and beyond to point out things I never would have seen or thought about. He took pictures and had a detailed report emailed to me the same day! Because of his attention to the details I was able to back out of the deal and save myself a lot of money and head aches. I just found another house and already called to ask for Jack specifically, he was able to set up the appointment within the week. I can't say thank you enough for the help and advice, I would recommend anyone before signing that purchase and agreement get Tiger Homes into the property and cover your ass! read more

During the inspection itself, he was incredibly thorough. For example, he spotted a nail head sticking out from the underside edge of a wooden built-in, in an area that is out of sight. He notices the slightest imperfections. In addition, he provided the most complete and thorough home inspection report I have ever seen. Given my tight timelines, he also provided me with some shorter lists for things I needed to address immediately with the seller. He takes many photos and documents everything. He explained what kind of person to hire for the various jobs when the time comes--pointing, radiators, windows, etc.--and how to tell whether they were doing the job well. It was fascinating and fun to watch him work and learn about the unfamiliar systems and technology. He took a lot of time with us to explain everything going on with the house. The house ended up having a lot of issues that we didn't notice in our earlier walk through. Thanks to Tri-Value consultants we were well-informed about all of the issues with a full report and ultimately decided to not move forward with the home. I moved to the North Shore a little over a year ago and because of the crazy property market at that time, I waived the inspection to prevent the seller doing open houses, locking down my offer. A huge gamble that made me nervous but I have a lot of experience as a home owner. Now that I am more familiar with the area, I was ready to purchase a small income property as well. I was attracted to Tri-Value because of the many stellar in-depth reviews I read, but also, by sheer coincidence because the owners, Michael and Joe Scaduto, have the same last name as members of my family, though there is no relation to these Scadutos. I expected to leave a message, but Joe picked up and I was immediately impressed by his professionalism, responsiveness and knowledge. He was clearly a veteran of the home inspection business and that's just what I wanted. I really appreciate a meticulous, erudite inspection especially when it's combined with outstanding customer service and clear communication. That is what I got in spades with Tri-Value. The actual inspection was done by Joe's son, Michael Scaduto, who is as sharp as they come, and who left no stone or dodgy wiring unturned. I've engaged many inspectors in my years in property-owning and I've never come across this high a level of service and desire to illuminate all aspects of the inspection for the potential buyer. I learned so much! Joe was also at the inspection and they worked as an amazing team of home scholars/investigators. I was made fully aware of all red flags and also everything that was functioning well. Michael and Joe went over and above in my view, at a very reasonable fee, and so impressed am I that I'm now engaging them for the overdue inspection of my own home. Tri-Value is a rare gem.
