It was nostalgic you know but then every time you go back it's the same thing and I know it's got new owners, but basically it's the same thing after a couple hours. You're bored the rise are lackluster there's really no kids area. There's you know what 45 rides now I noticed since I haven't been there in a few years that the variety of food has changed. I'm not gonna say it was great, but it was better than what they had. I was really looking forward to that Italian restaurant but of course it wasn't even opened so I will probably wait a few more years to go back. There's just not enough there to make it exciting. I mean it's like once you've been there that's enough. I preferably would rather drive one extra hour cause it takes me about an hour and 10 minutes from where I live, I would rather go another extra hour to Muskegon, Michigan to Michigan's adventure now that place is worth the same price the Indiana Beach house but they have wave pools and they have wonderful rides and a rapids and I mean it's just you have a lot more to do there for the same price it's worth the extra hour drive!

If you happen to be in the farthest back row, you'll experience what I call an 'ejector-seat' moment; not only will you get airtime, but you'll be momentarily LAUNCHED out of your seat, to the point where you're very glad the ride operator tightened your safety belt. The double helix gives some great lateral G's, and there's just enough pep throughout the ride to make it a brief, but enjoyable woodie. And who says midsized coasters can't run with the big dogs? ARF ARF!

(circa 1958)…read more Frankenstein's Castle might've been novel in its time, but the charm has faded and what we're left with are dark, musty hallways and poorly-timed scares. While I can't say that it's fallen into a complete state of disrepair, Frankie's Place is in dire need of an updating. But maybe Indiana Beach is intentionally NOT updating it for the sake of nostalgia. Regardless, entry isn't included with park admission, so you'll have to shell out $3.50/person. So is it worth it? Nope. Many of the animatronic "pop-out" scares were mistimed or inoperable, and most of the long dark hallways were devoid of anything spooky at all. In fact, a great deal of the wallspace was empty, and on more than one occasion I had to walk with my arms outstretched to find my way around in the pitch blackness. But there were several 'fun house' elements that I enjoyed, like moving floors, a rickety bridge, a room full of misleading (dead-end) doors, and a balcony that suddenly tilts forward when you stand on it. THAT was cool and a very original concept. Perhaps back in the heyday of Indiana Beach this haunted(fun)house garnered a lot more accolades and attention, but in 2014 it's kinda falling apart at the seams.

There are some solid airtime spots over the 2,900 foot jaunt, but it definitely runs rough around the edges. While not as bad as Cedar Point's 'Mean Streak', there's still parts of the HH that need some major re-work. My girlfriend and I exited the ride (our last of the day) with a few bumps and bruises; her, an incessant pounding headache, and me, a sore ribcage and banged-up shin. I'm not saying it wasn't fun, because it was, but our personal comfort is worth more to us than that. This track badly needs re-profiling!

Sitting in a two person car, a powered track takes you through a piratey-themed layout, where you shoot at targets to accumulate points in an effort to beat your partner next to you. Now while DoLT isn't in particularly bad shape, it's not in tip-top operating condition, either. This was easily our longest wait of the day (~30 minutes), since some people were opting to ride by themselves (to "dual-wield" the light guns, which is actually stupid since your accuracy drops substantially). It's still a fun dark ride after all these years.....I just wish the queue line had a fan or air conditioning.

It initially wasn't running when we got there, but it did open up later in the afternoon with 2-car operation. The lift hill is pitched at 45° and takes you up to a height of 85 feet very quickly. The first drop is actually beyond vertical (105°, I believe), and the track layout is wonderfully twisted. Despite a short ride time, it's still a lot of fun to experience the unique elements (banking on the OUTSIDE of a turn, a downward-sloping in-line twist). The over-the-shoulder restraints are a tad uncomfortable, but necessary, as you do hang inverted for several seconds. Steel Hawg benefits from a very small footprint (amount of land it occupies), which is perfect for the needs of a space-limited park like Indiana Beach.

While getting out of the lazy river a lifeguard helped us to the part that gradually gets more shallow on your way out instead the steps, which was fine until we get all the way out where there's no more water just before the cement starts, and first my daughter slips and falls, then just as I'm seeing her fall (and while holding my son) I fall too. Not just a little slip but we completely fell to the ground. It was so extremely slippery in that spot. Luckily we walked away with scraped knees and the top of my foot scraped. Somehow I managed to not drop my son. The place was packed and not a single person asked if we were okay or needed help up. Not to mention the lifeguards blew their whistles constantly at some kids "too tall" to go down the baby fish slide or for standing/sitting on the water spouts by kiddy area. But didn't care about the older boys throwing a full size football nearly hitting people's (including me and my kids) heads in the deeper swimming area. Overall it was an okay time, my kids had a lot of fun and that's what matters most. But I think some changes are needed. I've been there plenty of times even when I was a kid myself but this was my least favorite experience. Most importantly they seriously need to fix that slick spot before someone busts their head or breaks a bone.
