Tijuana Flats and Yelp joined forces to have the elite Yelpers try the new queso crunch burrito. I opted for blackened chicken. The burrito was stuffed with fillings but it would've been better without the tortilla strips. The tortilla strips became soggy by the time I got home with my food. I ordered the food online, parked in the designated spot in front of the restaurant and they brought my food out to me. I didn't think about it until after I got there, but I should've went in and ate. I love their hot sauce bar! I tried their new bangin chicken dip. The chicken is definitely spicy but the dip itself was a little bland. The churro bites were amazing. I preferred the strawberry dip over the chocolate. I'm glad I tried something new here. Terrible. Service was slow and the food, we had two burritos for take out, was simply bad. The burrito feel apart, the other one's tortilla was so hard and dry. I eat a lot of Mexican and take Oita etc but this was not good. I barely leave reviews but felt I should for this one. Went to the location in Brandon FL on Causeway Blvd today to celebrate Father's Day and this place is the absolute worst! Got 2 burritos and shredded chicken nachos. The food took forever to come out. The burritos were cold inside and out, the chicken, beans, cheese.. everything was cold inside and the cheese was loosely in there not melted. The cheese on the nachos was cold and hard on top as if they had been sitting for a while before they made it to the table and the chips were soggy and falling apart. The only hot food we got was the bottom cheese on the nachos was still hot, but they cooked the nachos on some sort of paper so the cheese melted ONTO the paper so every bite we got of hot, soggy nachos included greasy paper. We used to come here often and came back for the good food we remembered but everything was absolutely awful. We will never come here again. When we spoke to the managers (2 of them came to the table, a male and female,) they apologized and offered to remake something if we wanted but everything was so gross we didn't want any more of that food. Besides it all being cold, the flavor of everything was terrible, especially the tinga chicken. In addition, the bathroom was disgusting and the floor was dangerously slippery. I would recommend you stay far away from this place! I'd give zero stars if I could. EDITED TO ADD- I had the regional manager reach out to me and he listened to our feedback and genuinely wanted to make it right. Always a good time to be had at Tijuana Flats, and this one is no exception. It's a tex-mex place, with TJF's own spin on the classics. Chimichangas, burritos, tacos, and all that sort of stuff. The draw of the plates are that they're made to order with super-fresh ingredients, as anyone who has chomped into one of their jalapenos can attest to. They also have the hot sauce bar, ranging from the tasty sweet sauces for chips, to the raging inferno sauces you put on your burrito to impress your dumb buddies and piss off your gut. I find the mid-range heats and slightly higher have a nice variety of flavors, but there is no reason to have a sauce with a Scoville rating over 500,000 on your otherwise perfectly fine food. So fair warning. Friendly, pretty quick service that gets you your refills after you sit rounds out the good stuff here. There is limited outdoor seating too, if it's nice out. But just be careful, that parking lot is one of the worst in Brandon - which is saying a lot, since Brandon in general is an awful parking nightmare. read more

Tijuana flats has easily became one of my favorite places. From the time I walk in to the time I leave its a great experience. I've never had better attention to our needs then at this place, which is amazing because it's not your traditional wait staff setup. I love how you walk in and immediately get to place your order and grab your drinks. Most the time you are just getting to sit in your seat when they are already bringing out some of your food. To say fast service is an under statement. And instead of 1 assigned waiter that gets distracted or busy there is a team of servers that constantly patrol the floor and checking up on guests. I don't think I've even had a drink go half empty before they asked if I wanted a re fill. Major kudos to the staff at this establishment, and even more kudos to the man who designed this setup for their restaurants. To compliment the great service the food is just as much to rave about. Again judging on the basis of the style of restaurant being about speed and convenience, it's a hands down 5 stars. I've been to plenty of Latino places and even after waiting 15-30 minutes for food still doesn't come out half as good as Tijuana flats. Every meal I've had was fresh, pipping hot, and super delicious. I love the options on the menu, especially the pick two. And I love the "enchantments" wether you want to make it healthier or "make it wet". Just talking about this place makes my taste buds salivate and wanting to run back up for more. read more

Had previous to this encounter enjoyed dining here for inexpensive usually tasty Mexican food. It was the reluctance to even consider offering a solution which closes this restaurant down from the many choices available in the Brandon / Riverview area. Cleanly, neat Tijuana flats. I rarely come around this location, however found this Tijuana flats when I came to shop at a nearby store. Just like any other t-flats they have great food and flavors. I particularly enjoy their tacos with black beans. Their ingredients taste fresh and are certainly flavorful. It's a perfect snack or full meal, with multiple textures and flavors. If you are into hot sauces, just like other Tijuana flats, this location has numerous options to choose with a facial pain scale to grade the spiciness. You can actually purchase the hot sauce you like! I like this location as they have wonderful outdoor seating and lots of parking. The service is quick and courteous. Really enjoyed my meal. Got a burrito To go. Ended up having an issue with the burrito and had to bring it back to have them redo it. The manager was incredibly apologetic and kind. Management seems like they really care about the customers & their business, so I would highly recommend based on that fact alone. Food was great once redone! I visited this location due to the special for Teachers they were having that night (we very much appreciate this event, thanks management). The entire staff from the register, to the people delivering food to your table, to the people cleaning and making sure you have everything you need while seated was phenomenal! The place was very busy but they handled it with ease and without a hitch. I ordered the Dos Enchiladas- one with re fried beans and one with black beans. My meal was delicious! It was topped with fresh ingredients and accompanied with their fresh, flavorful chips. My son ordered the chicken quesadilla kids meal and it was cool that applesauce was an available side item. Well as a former resident of Southern California and El Paso, TX, I think I know Mexican or Tex/Mex food. I am not impressed with Tijuana Flats. Real Mexican food does not use Ground beef, pork or chicken. They use Steak, Chicken Breast and shredded or chopped pork butt. The flavors are just not there. It may be a place where somebody thought they knew what Mexican food really is. Biut it's so far from being authentic. This is hands-down one of the best spots to hit on a Tuesday or Thursday. They are 599 deals are to die for the hard tacos are the bomb I don't really like jalapeños or onions so I don't get those but I get the rest including sour cream cheese lettuce and tomatoes and I also grab an extra side of salsa for my chips, Do not get me started on those chocolate chip flauntas . I am not sure if I am spelling it right... That is the best dessert to have after a wonderful taco lunch and sharing it with a significant other makes it all the better. So my wife and I eat at Tijuana Flats every week. Usuallly the one in Wesley Chapel (Closest to our house), but have had occasion to eat at others. They all seem to have one thing in common. Great Service. Food is always great, but Great service at every one we've been to, pretty amazing. Nothing different here, from the person that greeted us as we came through the door to the Manager (Danny) everyone was awesome. Tijuana Flats is a far cry from authentic Mexican food. To me, that is a good thing. Sometimes I get a hankering for some good authentic Mexican food, but most of the time TJs will do just fine. I like how everything is always fresh. This place is good, and consistent. They're also extremely efficient with peak rush times. Everyone has always been friendly, with a greet as we come and go. I usually have the chimichanga, but sometimes I get the burrito. This time I got the choose dos, with a chimichanga and an enchilada. I get them wet, topped with queso. I've never had a complaint about the food. Also, I get chips and queso which, if you didn't know, is bottomless. Their sweet tea is always delicious. Some of the best sweet tea in Central Florida. They also have a hot sauce bar. The sauces range from sweet and tangy, too burn your face off. I like it hot! Real hot! I always get the hottest sauce they have. There so many, I can't remember any one individual sauce, but go and check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Overall, it's a nice and relaxed atmosphere with music playing, and friendly service. The menu is pretty good, and reasonably priced. I'm a big fan of Mexican food. I like it so much in fact, that I am probably part Mexican and just don't know it. This place is good for American Mexican food...if that is the criteria used for reviewing it. Doesn't seem to be very authentic Mexican in taste (if you know what Uncle Julio's is, it is like that), but the ingredients tasted fresh. I would say that the only thing I didn't like was the rice. That did taste like it was boxed. The chips were good though and not greasy. I would probably come here on Taco Tuesday (we ordered takeout on a random night) because the food was decent. I haven't been inside but have heard of the hot sauce bar. I think that's pretty cool. This will not be a place we frequent, but it shouldn't be looked past. It seems like a nice place for a family dinner. The tostadas were good which is what I ordered. We also ordered the trio appetizer. I love guac and they made it well. The queso was good in my opinion, but some might not like it. It tasted exactly like nacho cheese pizza rolls. Try buying the rolls from your local grocery store and you will notice. I used to like those when I got them- another reason why there was a lack of authenticity. I thought that this place was pricey for what it was. On a recent business trip, one of my colleagues recommended Tijuana Flats for dinner. Based on the reviews, and my colleague's perky enthusiasm for Tijuana Flats, I thought it prudent to check it out. I have to say that I was very impressed with the food and the atmosphere. I lived in San Antonio, TX for a few years, and so if there is one cuisine my taste-buds are pretty well-attuned to, it is Tex-Mex. Food: I had the chimichanga. There is just something about meat, cheese, and rice wrapped in a tortilla and dropped into a fryer that really gets my gastric juices flowing! I ordered it with a side of guacamole, and topped with queso. I really wanted to get beef in it, but because I'm fat, I decided on the healthier option and got chicken. For going with the 'healthier' option, I was really pleased with how moist and flavorful the chicken was! The queso was as delicious as expected, but the guacamole was exceptionally good, something that is very rare in establishments such as this. The real highlight though, like many others have mentioned, is the hot sauce bar. Yes, some of those sauces are nasty as sweaty balls, but a lot of them had really unique and pleasing flavors. The 'Asian' flavored ones like the Sweet Thai Chili were real favorites of mine. It didn't taste particularly good on my chimichanga, but it was still delicious with chips. The only downside to the food is that even with all of the great flavors, I have had better food elsewhere. Don't let that deter you from eating here though, because unless your making a trip to San Antonio in the near future, the food here might be some of the best Tex Mex in the immediate area. Food: 4 / 5 (3 for food, + 1 for hot sauce bar and good guacamole) Service: Service was your typical, run-of-the-mill type of service for this type of establishment. The service didn't exactly stand-out, but those who I interacted with were pleasant, in an unexpectedly fake sort of way. Service: 3 / 5 Atmosphere: This is the one category where Tijuana Flats shines for me. It had a really cool, dive-y feel to it, and it significantly contributed to the overall meal. This is totally a place I would come and just chill with a couple of dudes, chat, and maybe even load-up on some good alcohol-absorbing food before going out. The only trick to that though, is getting home before the beans kick-in. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 Price: For what you get, I feel as if you get a pretty good bang-for-your-buck. It is definitely filling, and the wide variety of food and sauces at your disposal make the whole dining experience worth more. Price: 4 / 5 Conclusion / Final Thoughts: I am not from the Brandon area, so I cannot comment on whether or not this is definitively 'the place to go' for this type of cuisine, but I'd be willing to bet you'd be hard-pressed to find something that delivers quality food with a quality experience like Tijuana Flats. I personally have never been to a place with such an extensive hot sauce bar before, so that was a really cool perk for me. It is this personalized connection that they have with their customers, and loyal customers like us that keeps us coming back two or more times a week. I love me some Tijuana Flats! Okay, so, really - a place where I can get a low fat burrito, smother in hot sauce, for like $8, and be in and out quickly = a dream come true for yours truly! I would highly recommend the beef chimichanga wet with queso if you are in the mood for something unhealthy and decadent. My go to healthy option is the steak burrito wet with salsa and power lite (fat free cheese and sour cream). My favorite part about this place is definitely the hot sauce bar. I love to smother my food in the hottest spices possible and they have a variety of options at TF. My personal favorite is the plan old "Smack My Ass and Call Me Sally" habanero hot sauce. Was a bit of a wait as previously mentioned, but the staff was nice and even offered me a refill while I was waiting. Food is fresh and delicious! We go here at least once a month for some fantabulous food. To start we get the chips and salsa. We then add smack my sweet ass and call me sally hot sauce to it. It doesn't add heat but sweetens up the salsa.= while adding flavor. We normally stick to the Norrito bowls with blackened chicken. Drizzle a little Chicken S**t hot sauce on it and its gone within a couple minutes. Always filling, fiancé never finishes hers (more for me!!!). The staff are usually pretty good at getting around to refill your drinks. sometimes when they are busy you have to walk up but that is rare. Worse experience. We order food with vegetarian option (No Meat). Out of three, one order came with many chunks of meats. We informed the staff, they replace order and did other formalities. We did take away that replaced plate. Every thing solve. Now, when we opened that plate at home and we found same chunk of meat. How it is even possible? I have called manager right away to filed complaint about this repatative mistake. As usual, they offer another plate if we visit the store again and apologized for the mistake of food containment. Also did informed me that manager on duty had not checked food for possible containment of food products after I informed them while dine in.
