We went to Tres Amigos to celebrate one of my girlfriends and we had a great time. We were a large party so we had 2 tables and Kudos to our server who provided us with excellent service like a pro. The food was good and everyone enjoyed their meals. The venue is pretty spacious which I didn't realize from outside and there's plenty of parking. The food is good but I don't think the pickup/takeout process needs to be as complicated as it is or was today. I called them and placed an order, go to pick up my order, park in the curbside parking spot and called them to let them know I'm here to pick up my order, THEY LET THE PHONE GO TO VOICEMAIL/DIDN'T ANSWER, then obviously annoyed with an unanswered phone I go to the front door to pick up my order there and tell me why there's literally FIVE people just standing around talking at the hostess doing nothing and clearly not answering their phone. Why?? What's the point of calling for curbside if you don't pick up the phone? Please adjust the way this process is because that was really annoying. The salsa here is pretty bland but refreshing. Was just ok. Not authentic flavor. Visited March 2024, St Patrick's Day weekend; Ordered Tacos Al Pastor- first AUTHENTIC Pastor is an Orange Red color. They charge $13 for TWO tacos- the tacos I got were made with very small cubes of dried pork meat and cubed pineapple with large onion pieces and a green aoli sauce drizzle. The sides were supposed to be Mexican rice and refried beans- the rice was parboiled rice with zero flavor and the refried beans were watery. YUCK! Had a side of Elote- pretty good, again not made authenticity and too much pepper not enough Tajín etc. The Pepsi was served in a severely cracked acrylic tumbler. Also ordered one mango mojito- not good. Hardly any mango flavor and huge mint leaves. The other dish we ordered was the spicy shrimp entre with tomato based sauce. The flavor was a nice flavored heat and good size shrimp and peppers with onions- Not bad but again served with the parboiled rice and beans. Sat at bar area service was good and the place is large with a nice fountain in the middle. The place has so much potential but the food lacks in authentic flavor. Overall visit was ok at best. No spice. Little salt. Found one cilantro leaf in mine. Totally flat. Their margaritas were premade and on the bitter side. Tres Amigos has a DELICIOUS chunky homemade salsa with entire garlic gloves. They also make their tortillas in-house, and you can see someone in the back always pressing and making them. I got their Cobb and added shrimp to it. Their Cobb uses cotija cheese. I wouldn't recommend their Bloody Mary, but their margs looked pretty good. First time to this place. Lived in New Mexico and Arizona for over 35 years you get good and bad Mexican food everywhere. This place was not bad. Food was seasoned. I had the chicken chimichanga. Wife had taco salad. Other had enchiladas, quesadilla, etc overall the food is a 4 star. The queso Blanco is fantastic..but the salsa and chips could be better. Restaurant was ok AC was not very good. Not enough wait staff. Due to AC issues waters sweating whipping head with exposed arms. I bet the kitchen was overheated .. who knows what was going on there. Stopped in for an early dinner during happy hour. Their HH has select items $1 off. Nice atmosphere and we did not have a wait to be seated. Good came out quickly and was good. Slight correction with the margarita I ordered. I didn't want the powdered sugar or sour mix. The drink was way too sour as if they doubled up on the lime juice. Have not been to Tres Amigos in a couple of years. Previous visits, the food and service were good and the pricing was reasonable. Went there Saturday and the food was pretty awful. We both ordered cheese and onion enchiladas and guacamole. The guacamole we sent back because it had some odd seasoning and it had HUGE chucks of raw onion throughout. It was obvious that the enchiladas were made in the microwave instead baked. What we got were tortillas with barely melted cheese and RAW onions inside and just a little bit of enchilada sauce on part of the outside of the tortilla. They have more than doubled their prices and the food quality went down the drain. Our bill was $41 before tip...SOOO not worth it. We could have gone to Taco Bell for a third of the price and much better food...lesson learned. read more

Worst experience at Tres Amigos for mother's day. Thought it would be a good place to eat and celebrate. The taco was plain, so much so that Taco Bell puts them to shame, there was nothing special or delicious about them. The fries and potatoes were burnt and cold upon delivery, plain, not even salt. The cheesy enchilada was a slop of meat covered in cheese, cold as well. The Chicken Tortilla soup is supposed to be broth and flavorful, it was not, it was just water, diced veggies, and chicken tossed in, with sloppy tortillas, cold as well. The entire meal was just sloppy and gross. And it barely was busy tonight. I highly suggest that if you want Tres Amigos at the Brandon blv, don't waste your money. 1/10 in food 0/10 in service The server had the gal to say that maybe my taste in food was just different. We've been going to Tres Amigos Cantina on and off since the day it opened. It's not the same as the Don Pablo's that was there before it, but it's still good. They did keep most of the décor as well as the tortilla making station. The restaurant that you see today is independently owned (it's not part of any chain) and local to Brandon. Just read the story on their website. I totally remember when Don Pablo's suddenly closed their locations and left their employees stunned the day after Christmas back in 2007. Fortunately, the property owner proposed a new beginning for the managers and employees. Tres Amigos Cantina was born from this partnership and has been a part of this community for about 15 years. It's a great story of survival and success. Our most recent lunch visit was a good one. My husband likes to go there for the Tex-Mex. It's not the best we've ever had but it's pretty decent. Most people come for the freshly made flour tortillas and their margarita pitchers. They have a great bar area and an outdoor patio. The chips and salsa are complimentary with the meal. They have a bolder version of their salsa that I swear used to be spicier, but not so much during this last visit. I guess it depends on the produce. I've had their steak and veggie fajitas, poblano relleno, and sopapillas in the past. All were good. Their queso and blanco dip are both very good, but I didn't get that this time around. I decided to try the elotes and carne asada. The street corn was prepared very well. It had great texture and flavor. The 8 oz. carne asada (or skirt steak) was a good size for me. It was cooked medium rare and topped with an herb butter. The only negative was that it was a tad under seasoned. It could have used a little more salt. I added salt later when heating up my leftovers at home and it was perfect. The entrees come with 2 sides as well as flour tortillas. I selected charro beans and the corn cake as my sides. It was all good. I honestly could eat those flour tortillas all day. Also, the corn cake was like a dessert at the end of the meal. My husband's combo appetizer platter was more than enough for him. He ate all of the chicken flautas and steak nachos. We always like their chicken flautas. He saved the quesadillas for later in the day. They reheat very well. He really likes the flour tortillas with their blend of pico de gallo and cheese. Another bonus is that they give a military discount. It's 25% for active duty military. Retired military and dependents with a military ID also get a discount but it's not as high of a percentage. We got a 10% discount this last visit. I think it's great that they even offer one. They're very good with large groups of people. Just call ahead for availability because it can get busy at peak times. The prices are good and there's plenty of parking. Two words: chicken flautas. I'm straight up obsessed with them. The appetizer version comes with guacamole and a melty, mouthwatering queso (next best thing to Bradley Cooper!) for dipping. The dinner version adds your choice of rice or beans and one side. Sadly, Bradley isn't on the list-but corn cakes are-and they're scoops of pure joy-sweet, savory and satisfying. I wish I could tell you more about the other dishes. I know, during dozens of visits over the years, that my friends have enjoyed their tacos, burritos and enchiladas-but I've been all up in those flautas!! Now, I've managed to do a detailed, devoted and diversified study of the margaritas-and after liking them all, I've settled down happily with the authentic. Simple, classic-looks good while posing for pictures in portrait mode. Oh yes, it does right by those flautas. But go ahead, sample the frozen options (especially the "meltdowns," that are topped with liqueur). They have sangria, wine, beer and cocktails, too-plus seven or eight tequilas to choose from. (Ask for the paper bar menu-they don't bring it automatically and the standard plastic ones aren't on the tables during Covid) Speaking of, they do a great job of keeping everyone at a safe distance from each other-it helps that it's a big dining room. The decor is fun and festive and the servers are friendly. If you want to swing by, they're in front of Sam's Club on SR 60 in Brandon-across the parking lot from Chili's. There's outside patio dining and tons of parking. Prices are moderate... and even on a Friday-approaching happy hour time, it's not crazy crowded.
