So you might say Paco introduced us to Tijuana's Tacos. We were craving Paco's Tacos, but barely missed Pomona's finest taqueria because we narrowly missed Paco's 7pm closure time on Sundays. Forced to pivot on the fly, we opted for Tijuana's Tacos based on its proximity to Paco's AND its good Yelp reviews. My bride ordered a trio of tacos, two Pollo and one asada con guacamole. We ordered two Tortas Del Chavo (Grilled Ham & Cheese sandos on spacious Telera rolls) for our sons and I contended myself with an Asada Burrito. Tip: Tijuana's Tacos features a well stocked, serve yourself salsa bar teaming with four different varieties of salsa plus Escabeche (pickled jalapeños, carrots + onions) and a Salvadoran condiment known as (cabbage free) Curtido (Slivered onions, cabbage + peppers, doused with a olive oil vinaigrette + Oregano). My beloved wife loves salsas of all types so of course she was happily canning up small samples of all four salsas! Note to YELPers: Nestled at the corner of Holt and Wisconsin, TJ's Tacos is in one of the grittier parts of Pomona. While the staff was professional + accommodating, at one point the cashier hollered at a down on his luck vagrant to "keep moving" when he began crowding a couple trying to enjoy their meal at the outdoor table. The same employee no doubt provided us a colorful moment we'll never forget when she boasted "Sabes que soy yo!" ("You know it's me!") when a patron asked "Hey which one of these sauces is the hottest?" As for the caliber of our FOOD? My younger son, ever the wit, took a couple bites of his torta then asked, "So you must've gone to Jacobo in the Box cuz this is like a Mexican version of a Breakfast Jack without the egg!" As Jack in the Box's eponymous Ham/egg/cheese breakfast sammie has been an obligatory part of their every JIB order since time immemorial, this comment was not necessarily a swipe. Leti had requested Lengua (Beef Tongue) Tacos but they were out, so she revised her order to Pollo, with one Asada. She drowned her taco plate with two of the four salsas and inhaled them. The quality of the Asada is very good, easily worth four stars. Perfect citrusy twang coupled w/ that quintessential mouth feel (mostly chewy but part crunchy due to the well griddled corners of meat) that tells you you're enjoying a top notch Asada. However, if the top half of my burrito was strong + meaty, then the bottom half quickly dovetailed to a two star, because most of my meat disappeared and I was left holding (and not enjoying) a starchy rice + beans burrito! Takeaway? Ask the cooks to please distribute your choice of protein in a more even way so that you get equal parts of meat with every bite. OR- If you're like me and detest rice on your burrito, consider upgrading to an "All Meat" burrito. read more

There's a few small tables for you to sit down and have a quick bite. Carne Asada tacos: Eating tacos is always a good time- especially when there's plenty of meat on the double-layered tortilla to fill up your mouth full of goodness. The carne asada was so juicy and cut up small and perfectly that it didn't take much for me to chew. It didn't hurt my jaw. Also an absolute great time when they fill up the tacos with guac too. Heaven! Pure bliss. Al Pastor tacos: The Al Pastor was well seasoned and had a nice pork flavor. However, i was disappointed that there was no hint of sweetness in the Al Pastor taco because there weren't any pineapples/sweet marinade. Came here after seeing the opening band N8NOFACE at the Glass House. I was hungry and googled nearby spots and this was about 0.8 miles away or maybe even closer. I was craving nachos and ordered some here and was disappointed when I saw the cheese was nacho cheese and not shredded. I ate the al pastor nachos but wasn't a fan. My father has been coming here for awhile and treated me after an appointment he had. He loves the Burrito Loco and I don't remember the name but we also got a burrito with Chile in it and it was DELICIOUS! Whole family enjoyed. This place is good! I've been here once before just to try it out and I was impressed with the size and flavor of the street tacos. Coming in at $2.39 a taco, it is a little pricey but everything seems to be these days. They load up on the meat and the tacos are not tiny by any means, so I find that it is worth the value. There are only so many variations of meat, tortilla, and cheese you can put together and based on my experience here, it's all delicious! I had the Chile Taco, which came with carne asada and a roasted chile with melted cheese. The amount of meat on that thing was like 2 tacos in 1! Worth the $5! I would definitely prefer to eat here than take the food home because fresh food just tastes better. The seating is mostly outdoors with 2 or 3 tables and a small seating area indoors by the ordering counter. There is also a self-serve area for salsa, limes, and other yummy toppings. Another great part of my experience here was the horchata. Now, I'm not an expert by any means, but it tasted homemade compared to the chalky gritty sweet drink I usually end up with. I felt like I could taste a hint of lechera as it was creamy, perfectly sweetened and refreshing. This place is a little further than my usual taco spot, but so worth it. They have a great menu with specialty tacos and Al pastor on a spit. The workers were so kind to us and told us all their favorites, which was great since they all matched up with the things I normally order (Al pastor tacos are the best!) Their carne asada was juicy, they were generous with the guacamole, and they gave us a little cup to help ourselves to some great beans. Im a huge al pastor fan, and usually rate a taco place based off how good I think the al pastor is and Tijuana's tacos definitely did justice to their al pastor! The server only spoke Spanish to me (I'm noticeably not Hispanic) however she spoke both Spanish and English to all the other customers. I live nowhere near Tijuana's Tacos, however, my sister lives 5 minutes away. I was so upset with her for not bringing me here a lot sooner! The tacos are SOOOO delicious! The tacos are a pretty big decent size with lots of meat (they are not greedy.) ALSO, the price is not bad whatsoever for what it's worth. I ordered an Ingeniero taco and a Taco de al pastor with grilled onions on top (omg, my mouth gets so watery thinking about them as I write this review.) The food was amazing and the employees were friendly and fast! The only con would be how small the location is, nonetheless, I am definitely coming back when visiting my sister in Pomona!
