Tiki Cove is a new tapas Chinese restaurant located right on the Freedom Trail near Faneuil Hall Boston. I was walking by and noticed it was new and decided to go and give it a try. The ambiance was cute when you walk in. They are giving a Hawaiian Tiki vibe (hence the name!) Lol. I sat at the bar and the bartender Lauren was awesome. Very attentive, and suggested me items to try. At first I didn't know it was tapas style until the food I ordered came out. I was thinking this was more of a traditional Chinese restaurant. But it wasn't of course. I ordered the Karrage chicken, some pork dumplings, crab Rangoon (which I was informed after I ordered that they were out of them at 3:30pm on the weekend!) a little disappointed that they didn't have them but I went for the beef and broccoli. The food came out at a reasonable time. I would grade the food 7 out of 10. Nothing too special. Being that I was by myself and wanted to try a few things. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a lot of food. Next time I go with a group, I can try more things to see if I'd give them a higher score. I came here with a friend once, and in a group another time -- and found very little to be desired, in terms of quality, ambience, atmosphere, and overall questionable vibes (and too-strong) drinks -- as well as deeply biased, imposing, and impersonal service. There is both too much sugar and booze in the drinks. For typical going-out Boston alcoholics, unaware and thrillseeking tourists, mediocre men, and capitalists -- this may sound good, but for the passerby patron it is not. Highly imbalanced on all fronts, as someone who is experienced in the restaurant industry. We shall see how (and to which clientele / staff) this establishment shall fare in the neighborhood. My sense is that this is nothing but a passing phase, and Faneuil Hall will see another business within the next half-decade. Perhaps that is from where the misplaced (& obvious) bravado (& weak, weird misogynistic authority) is coming. Karma delivers. And it will be in the form of a whole community never coming here -- friends we know are now expressly & actively avoiding it -- for this staff's approach to service. read more

Came to Tiki Cove during a World Cup game and they were understandably busy. I'm pretty sure they were short staffed the day we came because no server ever came up to us while we were at the dining seats. Luckily we found seats at the bar where we were able to get food and drinks. We ordered dim sum style and everything was properly portioned to do that, perfect for two. We had about 6 dishes, including a noodle dish that filled us up for sure. All the food was pretty good as well. No Tiki bar should make a Mai Tai from a beer tap! Then I ordered a Zombie and did not see where the bartender got it from but it was instantly made! All Tiki drinks should be made and mixed not premade. And they were not good! I am a Tiki enthusiast and would never recommend this place to anyone! I enjoyed my dinner at Tiki Cove! The place is new and so wasn't crowded at all, but I'm sure it'll gain popularity soon. The menu had so many cool options, and my friend and I got a lot of appetizers to share. The highlight was definitely the Mongolian Beef - it was bursting with flavor and was so tender. For my main, I got the chicken teriyaki, and it was good - I just wish there was more sauce. The sauce came on the side and it was very little, and my friend and I needed to ask for more sauce, and it still didn't feel like enough. It was yummy though! The ambience of the place is incredible - it really feels like an authentic tiki bar with the decor and architecture - even the water cups were a cool design! The service was great - our server was so lovely and got us our food very quickly, and she gave us fun flower necklaces to wear to match the vibe of the place! Overall, a great experience! read more

For a bar that caters to a nighttime crowd, though, it was very very bright in the whole place even though we were there on 8:30 on a Friday. Drinks were insanely strong, but we liked all of them! They all came in fun glasses that fit the theme. As for the food, we had a mixed experience. Our main thought was MORE SAUCE. Only one of the 4 things we ordered had a sauce with it, but all of dishes could have used a sauce. Or at least having some sauces on the table would have been helpful. We also thought that the portions were small compared to how much we paid. The beef skewers were sooo good, we could have just eaten those. Well seasoned and tender! The scallion pancakes were crispy. The pork dumplings were good- they were flavorful but the proportion of filling to wrapper was off. They were slightly doughy. Very glad we got them pan fried! And the salt and pepper calamari was interesting... portion was very small but the pieces were hugeee. And overly breaded. The calamari tasted fresh though! I went here this afternoon with a friend, yes, I do know FIFA is playing at every restaurant. We both asked for specialty cocktail that was on the menu, we were told that no specialty drinks were being made during the soccer games. The waitress was like I can do like a tito's and cranberry. I was like ok. my friend got a beer. The waitress came back over and said oh we don't have cranberry juice. So i got another drink. We ordered with two apps. We got a veggie spring roll, when we bit into it the center was still frozen. I realize that they were busy so we didn't even complain. We were still eating our apps when the waitress dropped off our bill. She never checked on us and she never asked us if we wanted a second drink. I don't normally review places but this was the worst service I've ever had. The waiter took our drink order, at which time I asked if we could order food with our drinks and he said "no take your time" - he then didn't check on our table for almost an hour. The bartender or runner brought out the drinks and that was the last we saw of any staff. I know people tend to exaggerate but we got our drinks at 5:48 and left at 6:30 when no one had taken our food order by that point. Disappointing. read more

This is a hidden gem. Located in the heart of Boston, this place offers a break from the traditional "New England" vibe and offering as an escape from the city. The service and drinks were impeccable. We had hands on service that reflected quality customer service and management. All of the servers and bartenders were attentive, but the manager, I believe her name was Sasha, gave us an experience worth coming back for. The Boston Tiki scene is either really high culture, like Wusong Road, or dive, like Tiki Rock. Tiki Cove falls straight, smack dab in the middle as an entry into Budget Urban Tiki. Entrance needs either a 'Seat Yourself' or 'Please Wait to be Seated' sign. This is a high traffic area and cutting down on confusion from the get-go will make flow a lot smoother. The decor gets a low pass, on the minimalist side with no touches of whimsy. Think Hawaiian totem pole and surf board styling with no animals. It's fine but you could probably get this stuff at Target/Home Depot - nothing stands out. What does stand out is the vibe created by the music. Not in a good way. Tiki Cove plays really loud R&B, instead of ocean wave warm, relaxing Tiki music. Quite the headache pounding from it at the moment. This is a huge turnoff and does not create a calm, fun atmosphere. Even low level yacht rock would have been preferable. Listening to Don Ho or the Hawaii Five-O theme would have been better. Hell, anything other than what they chose to play would be better. The music absolutely ruined the visit. Food consisted of small plates. Peking duck spring rolls were hot and greasy. Soup dumplings were typical. The menu called the wings Szechuan but tasted Indian inspired with a Thai aftertaste. Wet naps and chopsticks would be a welcome addition. Drinks were served in Tiki glasses but again, were generic. The Scorpion Bowl could do with longer straws. It was unpleasant straining my neck out and down to drink. Also noting that the Guinness is $12/pint (a bit steep, but you most likely aren't coming here for a stout), so nice that it is an option for the non-Tiki members of your crew. Perhaps add a non-alcoholic drink section with the Vietnamese coffee and some juices/tonics. Service was great. I believe they just opened so most likely working out some kinks. I am rooting for them - Boston needs more Tiki. A few tweaks and they should be fine, especially since they are opening at the beginning of tourist season. Once the weather warms up, I'd be inclined to visit for outside service in order to avoid the terrible music. read more

Good food and great service is what you get here. everthing looks brand new from the bamboo tile in the bathroom to the equipment behind the bar. Very clean. GM David is your host with a smile. Adam yor server is very knowledgeable and will recommend whats on the menu that most people like. Something different than your average Irish pub. Outside dining was rain but i could see from the Tiki decor its a hit on a nice day or night. They recommend you dine and share with each other so put your phone down here, enjoy the food and ambiance and strike up a conversation. read more
