Was thrilled to go here tonight for a Private Party Event Sponsored by Citizens Bank for a private reception prior to going to attend the Broadway show "HAMILTON" at the Citizens Bank Boston Opera House! Once we checked in at the entrance by two very friendly and exuberant Hostess: EMILY JORGENSON and AMY GORDON They handed out Show Tickets in a very stunning Black Envelope with Silver writing. Once in the place was decked out with white cloth tablecloths and the food choices handsomely displayed filled with a Seafood Section of Clams and Oysters on the Half Shell and amazing Shrimp all nested in a bed of ice chips! Very impressive and quite tasty also! They even had a BURGER TABLE with two male servers who gave you several choices of toppings for your Hamburger! But, most of the guests enjoyed the Open Bar and mingled and talked among the guests all dressed perfectly! From 5-7 was very entertaining and the service of waitstaff walking among the invited guest with EXTRA FOOD SURPRISES, such as Arancini, Flat Bread Pizzas, Chicken Skewered, Caprese Skewers and more! Stopped in for a quick bite before a show at the Wilbur. Convenient location within walking distance. We both enjoyed a margherita flatbread pizza. Very good- couldn't finish the whole thing. Service was friendly and attentive- our server was trained to manage the ore-show crowd and timing. We were at a high top- at one point we were straining to hear each other because it was so loud. My friend & I walked in post-show one night, and snagged seats at the bar, which was fine and the atmosphere we wanted. We each got a "sip" - $5 for a sip of wine (which was a much smaller pour than I anticipated) - and split a buffalo pizza and guacamole. It was tasty, but not the most amazing food I've ever had. But they're a wine bar, so that is their focus. There were a lot of things on the menu that appealed, so I would consider going back pre- or post-show. It's so convenient! read more

I appreciated being able to try a couple different styles without committing to a full bottle. Cocktails were just okay -- a bit on the sweet side. Food was... fine. Let it Linger, served up in a martini glass, sort of a cosmo with champagne, somewhat sweet, needed some more balance Notorious F. I. G., a really nice whisky drink, seasonal with vanilla and all spice. Rhythm of the night, tequila/red wine/aperol/lime. Creative and very good. Negatives: Vibe. Just not happening. Bar seemingly not quite designed right for interacting with others. But maybe it just felt that way because it was empty? We had no food so can't comment on Sip's virtues as a restaurant. There's a history of great reviews of the food. We may come back for dinner since we really want this to be a winner, it must have a lot going for it since it has survived in the theater district for 10 years. read more

Always love this place! We always book here when we have a show at the Opera House and it does lot fail! The food is amazing and assorted! They have everything from amazing bites (charcuterie, etc) to the best chicken parm and wonderful tacos! The drinks are great, wonderful wine! The service is way above and beyond! Ambiance is top tier. The menu, for a wine bar, feels very limited with the small amount of wine selections. That said I enjoyed every glass!! The service is very sweet and personable but slow, so if you aren't in a rush I'd say it was absolutely perfect. In my case I was hoping for a quick app and drink before a show so it just didn't work well for my vibe that night. But that's on me! Food was good I got the arancini. I was very happy with this restaurant. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are not required but making reservations could make your experience more enjoyable if they are crowded. They took us promptly and we decided on an outdoor table which was enclosed behind an short iron fence. The menu is online or you can use your camera and position it over the scan code affixed to the table. The drinks were deciduous and the food was very presentable and tasted fresh as well as delicious too. I did not give this restaurant a 5, not because of the restaurant but because of the service. The server was somewhat rude to us and was not familiar with what drinks the bartender can and can't make. Instead of saying let me ask the bartender she told us "we don't make that." We did not eat at Sip, as we stopped by to check it out right before a viewing of Ralph Wrecks the Internet across the street. However, we were very pleased with the overall experience as well as the wine offerings. Sip does not offer flights of wine, but instead allows patrons and those who prefer to taste many different things a "sip" of wine (claimed at 2oz, but our pours were likely more like 3.5oz). This is obviously the way to go unless you are absolutely certain you want a 6oz or 9oz pour of whatever wine you choose. Their selection is pretty robust as well, having choices from all the well-known regions of the world as well as a few up and coming or funky regions. Another plus to this approach is you can try upper end wines for a very reasonable price and not have to worry about if you would like it or not. This is also a great way to "build your own flight" without being forced into a predetermined flight of say all Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, high-end picks, or "budget" wines. The ambiance is modern-chic and feels more like a lounge than a typical wine bar. That's not an issue and has kind of a cool vibe and plenty of seating around a kidney-bean shaped bar. The lighting is low and the noise could be defined as quiet here even when the place is full capacity. The bartenders and wine advisers are all very friendly, prompt, and courteous. We had a great time and never had to wait too long for any service, refill, or additional "sip" which was nice. We will definitely visit again next time we are in the area or catching a movie! read more

Did a wine tasting/wine bar tour on a Friday and decided to add Sip to the list. The inside was completely empty but there were a good amount of tables seated outside. Our server was Thomas and he was very nice and friendly but probably new. He kept forgetting things - once he stopped by our table and said "oh your drinks" and then those came out 10-15 min later. He also forget hot sauce we asked for but honestly we weren't too pressed about it so we let it go. He said the bartender was new? So our wine flight/tasting with 2 oz pours was more like 4 oz pours. When we pointed it out because that's not what we ordered, he promised we would not be charged for it. The food was also mediocre and overpriced for it. My friend said the ahi tuna tacos were not great. My margarita flatbread was decent. The spicy guacamole had a bunch of not spicy jalapeños chopped up and added - the whole table felt it could have used more seasoning. The tuna loin plate was ok according to my friend. The real kicker was the payment. Thomas brought out one of those portable card payment things. Honestly I always feel uncomfortable when they're standing there while I'm looking through the receipt and I couldn't really scroll through so I just paid and tipped, though we all thought the total was higher than expected. I'm really glad I checked my email and looked at it right after because they added two glasses of wine we had not ordered and charged us $30 extra! So I immediately went inside to clear up the issue and Thomas jokingly said "oh we'll fix it! My manager does the billing stuff and sometimes she does this." I laughed it off at the time and they fixed it. Then, as we were leaving the table right behind us seemed to be having the same problem, so I told my whole table about the "sometimes she does this" comment. Does Sip frequently overcharge? I chose the crisp whites wine flight from the daily specials, and definitely recommend it to anyone who likes wine sampling like I do and doesn't want to commit to drinking a whole entire glass of wine. the La Capranera was my absolute favorite, and you can definitely taste lemon curd after you finish sipping. I ate Chet. What? Ok..... let me clarify...... At the recommendation of the very, very lovely manager Emily, who was conscious of my concerns of muffining out the top of my skinny jeans, I ordered the Ahi tuna Napoleon, which was some amazingly flavored tuna tartar atop a huge fried rice cake. It sort of resembled a Shaquille O'Neil sized replica of bite-sized spicy tuna on crispy rice cakes you'd normally find at trendier sushi houses. Except the tuna was SOOO much better. Now, I have to admit at first glance that it reminded me of a character named "Chet" from the movie 'Weird Science', who Kelly LeBrock turned into a pile of...... um... how do I say this delicately...... "shit" (don't worry, I've included a picture). I just found it hysterical. I'm glad to say, however, that the shit tasted amazeballs (pun intended). Seriously, it was amazing. Granted, that's all I have to go on food-wise, so this review is more about the amazing service my buddy Alex and I got from Emily, and Sharon the bartender (who turns out..... is married to a guy that was a college roommate of the owner of Soda Pop's sandwiches in LA.... a place I've seen, yet have never tried.... oh what a small world this is!). I just landed back in Boston from an exhausting 4-month trip away to the terrible awesome beaches of LA.... yuck..... and the terrible 80-degree weather.... barf.... so I was not only sleep-deprived, but completely ADHD. We had a pre-theater dinner here the other night which was fine, especially considering it was Valentine's Day which is always a tough night in the restaurant trade. The tuna tacos were very nice and the spicy girl roll was a good sushi roll. My wife liked the dragon roll but it could probably be just a bit smaller to make it easier to eat. The grilled broccoli was a bit underdone and lacked any special zing, either texture or flavor. We tried 3 different syrahs--the numanthia, pessimist and wolftrap--and did not like the south africa syrah really at all. The pessimist was the best of the bunch but it is fun to create your own flight here. It seemed pretty kid friendly with a bunch of families in pre-theater but the biggest challenge we have is with the setup--we much prefer traditional seating to high tops and a lot of the seating is the latter not the former. read more

Came here Friday night after work and was very pleased with the overall service. What's cool about Sip is that you can have different pours ( 2oz, 6 oz, 9oz or a full glass). I went with the 2oz pours because I knew that I could try a lot of different wines but not spend a fortune or get sloppy. It's really a great system they have. They have tons of different options from sparkling sweet to hearty reds. As a white wine drinker I stuck with what I knew I liked. My friend and I shared the Cobb salad and one of the flatbreads. It's an Asian fusion restaurant. There is lots of sushi on the menu but also typical bar food like pizza and what not. The food was good but you don't come here for the food you come here for the wines. Everything was decent price which is a nice change to the area. Dined here before the ballet, as it's just down the street. Loved the menu which offered a variety such as a cheese plate, sushi, tapas, soups, and salads to meet our needs. I also like that they have differing sizes of wine from sips to half-glasses to full glasses to a bottle. We opted for some wine and sushi and were not dissapointed in either the flavors or presentation. The nigiri platter, dragon maki, and spicy tuna tempura roll were spot on. For dessert, we shared the bread pudding as recommended by our server. I would never have selected that item if it hadn't been for our server's high recommendation, by the way. It was superb! Highly recommend. My only complaint is the volume level of the background music. It just didn't seem to go with the dining experience and made it a tad challenging having a conversation. Honestly three stars is very generous! Wine and Sangria were good. Meatball app had tasty meatballs and portion was good. But a bit plain, needs embellishment, garlic toast points with fresh oven dried tomatoes. Shrimp on soaked bread with sauce? My wife did not like. Needs a remake....serve with foie Gras and cranberry creams (Vin blanc), roasted mushrooms and a little fried polenta. My dish, chicken parmesan was horrible, fried chicken, burnt on the bottom, chicken was too thick, mozzarella poor quality and over cooked. On the pasta with red sauce the chef does not know to finish this dish ala minute. Should take pre blanched pasta, place in hot Rolling water for one minute, then throw into a hot saute pan with olive oil, sizzle for 20 seconds, add enough sauce so its very moist on the plate, add parmesan on the plate, have it a little saucy. Mine was dry, no flavor, no sauce....tough to eat with the dry chicken! Very disappointing! almost gross... FYI, our dinner bill was $100 with 18% gratuity. Waitresses never check on drinks, take forever to clear plates and never check in. This used to be my go-to bar/restaurant with my best friend, however I have since stopped going due to diminished customer service and hosting. First, there is a man that tries to pick up women at the bar. When I complained to staff about him, they told me he was a regular. Nothing ended up happening to stop this behavior, of a 40-50 year old man trying to take a 20 some year old blatantly home. Additionally, I tried coming back here with friends and my dog to sit outside. The attendant had just sat another lady with her dog, and shortly proceeded to make it so difficult for me, my dog and party of four ended up leaving. Edited on 11/21/19: I wanted to clarify my dog is a service dog in training, and did not have his vest that day so I did not advertise as such at the time, since he is training and didn't have a training vest yet. I recall the woman whose dog, along with herself and daughter, were allowed to sit in the patio without a service dog vest on as well. We also requested to sit within the patio, and did so just before her, however she was seated ahead of us. I assume since her party was smaller and we originally had one of our members go inside to check about sitting outside. I don't recommend this restaurant only because the service has diminished over time. Otherwise, the food is great. read more
