Finding a tiki bar on the Freedom Trail could've changed American history forever had it existed back in 1776. If Paul Revere stopped by for a Pina Colada, the colonists could've lost the war, and we'd be singing the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" as our national anthem today. Jamie W. found it on the Yelp app when we started to drift after walking through Quincy Market. I guess we were early because no one else was in the bar at 2:30 in the afternoon. Perhaps Bostonians delay their tiki cocktail consumption to the evening after they have their chowdah and fill their muskets. It was a pretty evocative place, but the chilly weather outside prevented us from daydreaming about being at the Hula Bar on Waikiki. We were also a bit surprised that the signature cocktail selection was limited. Jamie was in the mood for the $15 Mai Tai because it was Thomas Jefferson's favorite tiki cocktail selection. OK, I made that up, but it seems reasonable, doesn't it? It's made with Planteray Rum 3 Stars Rum, Worthy Park 109 Dark Rum, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao, lime juice, and orgeat syrup. The specialty rums made this a revolutionary concoction. Following Patrick Henry's lead ("Give me liberty or give me death!"), I went with the $16 Painkiller. I've never been to Tiki Rock until this past Saturday. However, my most recent experience on Saturday was quite disappointing due to the behavior of the bar manager, Jeremy McCormack. Unfortunately, he was unprofessional and rude, which significantly impacted our experience. We were met with profanity and aggression as we left the venue. All this because he thought we were talking about him which was not true at all. The reason for our visit was a Mexican and margarita bar crawl that Tiki bar chose to participate in and yet chose to treat their patrons unprofessionally. This level of service is not what I expect from a restaurant and would never recommended this to friends and family. I hope the management addresses this behavior, as it reflects poorly on this establishment. I won't be returning unless significant improvements are made in how the staff, particularly management, handle customer service issues. read more

The security at Tiki Rock, while admittedly just doing their jobs, are disrespectful and presumptuous without giving people the benefit of the doubt. My friends and I were there for a bar crawl event when my friend left us at the bar to use the restroom. While he was in the restroom, simply just using the bathroom, security started knocking on the door of his stall to ask him if he was ok and if he "had an accident." When he replied he was fine and then emerged from the bathroom visibly fine, they told him he was lying. They then promptly kicked him out, claiming he had "thrown up all over himself" despite the fact that his clothes were completely clean. I then got a text from my friend saying he had gotten kicked out and when the rest of my friends went to security at the front to inquire about why, they claimed they "found him on the floor of the bathroom, with vomit all over his hands." Again, I would like to point out that not only were my friend's clothes and hands clean, but he had only consumed 2 margaritas over the course of the 3 hour bar crawl - nowhere near the point of getting sick. If tiki rock actually respected their patrons they would actually take the time to think logically and realize that the person they're accusing of something hasn't done anything. If you're looking for a respectable establishment with sympathetic customer service, Tiki Rock is NOT it. read more

My husband and I love Tiki bars, so we were so excited when we saw this was near our Airbnb. That excitement didn't last long though... We showed up for dinner and were quickly seated. Definitely similar atmosphere to a club. Loud music and a large bar area but kind of cool. We had a reservation and got sat at a high top table. They were busy so service was a little slow. It took some time for someone to come to our table and thankfully we ordered everything at once because we didn't really have our server come back to the table too often. We ordered the Guava Lava in a pineapple to share which was pretty good. For our appetizers , we ordered the coconut shrimp and the crispy pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious and so crispy. I would definitely recommend. The pork belly was well flavored but not really crispy. The bottom of the dish was some kimchee and so the bottom of the pork belly was cold and the middle was also a little cold so that was disappointing. For our dinner, we got the Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Cioppino. Both were good and hefty amounts of seafood. The Lobster on the Cioppino though was pretty overcooked and a little rubbery but the pasta overall was well flavored. I'm not sure if I would come back, maybe for late night cocktails. Pleasantly surprised! I've walked by this place so many times and never thought to go in. With a name like *Tiki Rock* it's hard to know what to expect but I wish I had discovered it sooner. The menu is Asian/tropical inspired (mostly) seafood, which is right up my alley! I came here for a corporate work lunch during the week with colleagues. I ordered the yellowfin tuna poke bowl which came with chopsticks (yay!) and it was fabulous. Lots of fresh raw tuna, ample amount of rice and a lovely sauce over the dish. The only complaint I have is that there was a bit too much pickled ginger added in my opinion, but it didn't ruin the meal at all. I'm a super big foodie so I spend a lot of time researching restaurants before we go to one. We needed something where the kitchen was open late and landed on Tiki Rock. It took them forever to seat us even though the restaurant was almost empty. When we got seated, it was right next to one of the only tables in the restaurant and it was LOUD. The music was blasting, the table next to us were basically yelling at each other. We got headaches within minutes of arriving. We mainly came for the oysters, cocktails and coconut shrimp. We tried to order the shrimp and they were out of it. Then I tried to order the crab Rangoons and were told that they only did those during happy hour. I had to direct the waitress to where it says on the menu that they were on special for the full day, not happy hour. We ordered our drinks and oysters and were trying to figure out our entree. We got our drinks and they were super weak. I don't think they had alcohol in them at all. For the price, it was insulting. We got our oysters and crab Rangoon. The oysters were pretty good but the rangoons were foul. They tasted so bad and fishy and spoiled. With how loud it was, how bad service was and the crab rangoons, we decided to get the check and order pizza back at the air bnb. Would never ever come here again. I was very impressed with my two experiences watching the Celtics playoff games there. The service was friendly and attentive. I really appreciated that they took reservations on those evenings too. My favorite of the dishes we ordered was the fish tacos. It's a big plate so worth sharing if you are not starving. Tiki rock RUINED my life. I have come here a few times before in the past and had great experiences, but haven't been in about 3 years. My friend and I decided to come last night before our girls night out on the town. We split a pain killer pineapple bowl and a coconut shrimp app, and then I ordered 3 tacos- one of them being fish. We left after the meal and went to the bar down the street. Approximately 45 minutes later, I began feeling nauseated. We didn't get any other drinks because we were both feeling a little off, so stuck to waters at the bar. About 10 minutes after the nausea set in, I had to SPRINT out of the bar and down the street. I threw up all over an alleyway THREE TIMES IN A ROW!!!! I thought that was the end of it, but unfortunately it was just the beginning. My friend called me, and I began walking back towards the bar to meet her, when suddenly, as if someone were preforming an exorcism on me, I projectile vomitted ALL OVER THE STREETS. My review is solely on the cocktails, I have never tried the food. I visit in the early afternoon when it's mellow and quiet. At night, it definitely gets loud and rowdy. I absolutely love the cocktails here. They are flavorful, fun, and great to have with a friend. I like to sit at the bar. The staff is super friendly and nice. For drinks, I tried the Big Papi, Sharkbait, and Guava Lava. My favorite was the Big Papi! They also have a "Mystery" drink that they create special of whatever they're feeling. The mussels were my favorite. The fish tacos my least favorite. The rest of the stuff was okay. We ordered a few drinks, and the bartender was friendly and quick with getting orders out.
