While a tad inconsistent, my family and I have come to be TikiTaco fans over the years. I trust it more dining in than carryout, and the girls like eating here, particularly on their patio. There's a good amount of space and shade too. A go-to for me is the Mean Green Burrito that has curly fries, guac, black beans, wrapped in a spinach tortilla. Their little hot sauces are good, I toggle between the medium and hot (the green one is best, can't remember which it is). Also enjoy their al pastor tacos, chips & guac, and drinks are good too. They're also involved in the community, sponsoring restaurant give-back nights for our kids' school which endears this spot to me even more. The only misses have come on particularly busy nights or Doordash orders and the issue is the same -- crumpled up tacos washed out in grease. I think a different packaging might help, as well as double tortillas for the tacos. I'll just stick with a burrito and chips when doing delivery as that is a safer bet. All told, nice little spot, good prices, seems well-run, and is slowly spreading far and wide across KC. read more

I mean, I already did a five star review for this place. But Yelp wants me to write more. So here you go: Tiki Taco is my jam. I mean sometime cheap nasty tacos will do. But when you want actual good tacos, this is a place you gotta come. They have a great bar here on Troost. The crew here is fantastic and always kind and helpful. I haven't been to any of the other locations, but I don't really care to. This location is fantastic and it's the closest one to Lee's Summit where I live. Perhaps one day the owners would consider putting one in the third largest city in Missouri. I would like that. :D Oh, and if you like hot stuff, make sure you ask for the hottest sauce. It's orange, but not mango. Habaneros all the way. I'm sitting here regretting my life choices. It's so hot!!! The flavor is amazing though. So I always get one or two of those. Today, we ventured out as the snow began falling to sample Tiki Taco on Troost Avenue. Upon pulling up, the quaint building caught my attention. Upon entering, we had the whole building to ourselves, which gave us time to look over the menu. They have street ,crunchy or soft tacos your protein of choice with a wide variety to choose from. This place was cute inside. Unfortunately that was about all I can say positively about the experience. We ordered 8 tacos to go. We got home to discover we only got 7 tacos. So they didn't give us our full order. Unless my ground beef taco is invisible? We only live 5 minutes down the street and the tacos were so cold by the time we got home. So I guess they just had them ready but didn't call them out to us right away. As for the taste of the tacos well they were quite subpar at best. Honestly, none of them tasted all that great. That said the chicken taco was definitely the least worst. I definitely wouldn't be able to recommend this place to others. read more

This is my first ever review I was so compelled to write one. This is based on my second visit ever to Tiki Taco, and I'm familiar with the size of their signature KC Burrito. My friend got one during my first visit when we dined in the prior week, and I'd say it's appropriately sized for a chain. It looked filling and on par for what I'd expect from a chain. It's not "traditional," but I went back in myself for a burrito this time. I wanted something protein heavy, not greasy or full of fillers, so I thought the Bean & Cheese Burrito with chicken would be a good choice. I was way wrong and honestly pretty disappointed with what I got. It was maybe 1.5" in diameter. I maybe got one ounce of beans and maybe one ounce of chicken, while the bulk of the burrito was mainly tortilla. What's especially frustrating is that their own website describes their burritos as: "These are not light, timid rolls. They're generously packed, fully loaded and built to satisfy." That was absolutely not my experience. This burrito was neither generously packed nor fully loaded, and I certainly didn't find it satisfying. For $8.99, I spoke with the manager and was told it was because it doesn't have the rice or fries that their other burritos come with, and that "if you'd spent the extra dollar you would've gotten that." That's really not the point. It's not about the extra dollar or me being unwilling to spend it. If I wanted rice, extra carbs, or fried potato starch, I would've ordered one of their other burritos. I specifically chose this burrito because I didn't want those things. I wanted the beans and chicken to make up the filling, and for $8.99 I expected more than a mostly tortilla burrito with roughly an ounce of each. I at least expected more beans. On top of that, their chicken is ground, pre cooked chicken bits. It's not even natural whole shredded chicken. For something I ordered specifically because I wanted a protein heavy meal, the quality and quantity of the filling were both disappointing. I literally could've gone anywhere else and gotten a substantially better burrito. At this point, I wish I'd gone anywhere else for a burrito, so I hope this helps you choose where to spend your hard earned money. Tiki Taco is essentially a dressed up Cantina Taco Bell. I don't support fast food for its unrealistic price to quality ratio when so much of the food ends up being cheap, fatty, or starchy filler. My son and I were in the area, and I decided it was time he tried Tiki Taco. I'd been before and was craving the Dripping Birria tacos again. The place was pretty busy when we walked in, but once we figured out what we wanted, ordering at the counter was quick and easy. The staff was friendly and welcoming. My son went with the Tiki Fries, and I stuck with two Dripping Birria tacos. Indoor seating was pretty full, but the patio had plenty of open seats, so we set outside, and I really enjoyed the patio vibe, the music playing was enjoyable, although it does get a bit drowned out by the street traffic now and then. Our food came out fast and hit the spot. The tacos were just as flavorful as I remembered, and my son was all smiles with his fries. He's already planning a return visit to try a burrito. Never heard of this place before, I'm glad I got the opportunity to check Tiki Tacos out. As I entered the parking lot of the restaurant I noticed they have outside seating! (A major plus for me) It was a nice day out so I instantly made the decision I will be eating my burrito outside. The inside reminded me of an old school burger joint, with a spin of a modern taco and burrito spot. They have a decent selection on different types of tacos and burritos to choose from. The guy who took my order was very nice and patient considering all the questions I had. I decided to go with the surf and turf burrito. I asked for rice instead of french fries and I asked if I could have grilled shrimp instead of fried shrimp. The shrimp inside the burrito were huge and the portion of them was spot on! Man ole ole it was SO good! To top it off the tortilla they used is tomato and basil 10/10. Their habanero and jalapeño salsa is one for the books 10/10. If you are not a fan of spicy, I suggest you stay far away from this salsa. This particular burrito does not come with beans you would have to ask for them. I also tried a mango flavored Mexican soda Omg! It was SO good!!! Mangos happened to be one of my favorite fruit, whenever I go somewhere and they have the flavor for an option that is my go to. I regret posting this because I usually love tiki taco but I had a genuinely unacceptable experience ordering takeout today. I got home and realized they had totally forgotten to even put cheese in my quesadilla I had ordered. A quesadilla is three ingredients. Cheese, tortilla, and meat. They totally forgot the cheese so I just had a grilled tortilla with meat inside. I sympathize with restaurant workers and the pay they receive but I genuinely can't understand forgetting an ingredient in a three ingredient item. Get your **** together and stop expanding to more locations so you can train your cooks how to make the food people ordered, please. You really expect me to believe you didn't notice a tortilla grilling for a few minutes and putting meat in but you mysteriously forgot the cheese and folded it up and cut it? This was either intentional or just such a failure of an employee that they shouldnt be on the grill. I normally would give tiki taco a 4/5 on a normal visit. From authentic taqueria Mexican food to fusion to Tex mex...I've had my run. But tiki taco continues to impress me, friends, and family who I introduce it to! This was our first visit since we attended a Yelp event here, and I'd say it went well! It was a really hot day, so we took advantage of the indoor seating, and even though we had a toddler with us, no one seemed bothered by that. (They didn't have a booster seat or high chair though if that's important to you.) We enjoyed our cocktails (I had the Paloma) and thought they were made well. Not super strong, but well balanced and light enough for an early dinner. We had a couple of burritos at the table and a couple of protein bowls. Everyone liked their orders and I appreciated the number of grilled shrimp in my bowl. I'm not a big fan of ordering at the kiosk thing (it can get complicated for a large group and especially, if you're new to the menu), but they were kind enough to let me order at the counter, so I can't hold that against them and I'm sure it's a financial decision. Tiki Taco did a wonderful job, executing each food item that we got to try and even the specialized the drinks option for me to make it a mocktail( since I'm very pregnant). Luckily that day was perfect for an outside event. Tiki Taco had a clean outdoor seating which was surprisingly not noisy even though it was during 4pm-6pm on a busy street. I did dip into their indoor area which had so many things to distract an ADHD minded person like myself. This location was great because it made it easy for someone to eat indoor, outdoor, or pick up their food without any issues. The staff and owner, who was present, were so nice, accommodating, helpful, and willing to talk to me about anything and everything. The bartender whipped up the Mocktail version of their special, which was the Strawberry Mango Tango ( strawberry mango tajin syrup, hot honey, and citrus (w/o el trago tequila and triple sec)) then made a virgin Paloma. We all shared the chips with queso, salsa, and guacamole which I definitely would order again in the future. We later all tried a variety of tacos; however, I was only able to get my hungry palms on the following tacos Mushroom (grilled mushrooms, house medium salsa, onion, cilantro on a double corn tortilla), Thai Fried Chicken (fried chicken, purple cabbage & jalapeño sour cream slaw, thai chili sauce on a flour tortilla), and "Dripping" Birria(chili guajillo & tomato braised carnitas, cheese, cilantro, onion on a charred flour tortilla). I tried 3 of the 7 tacos and these were my favorite in the following order: 1. "Dripping" Birria 2. Mushroom 3. Thai Fried Chicken. I'd definitely order any of these again but I will have preferences and would love to try the other tacos off the menu. We later all shared a variety of burritos and here are the ones I was able to snag was the Surf N' Turf( carne asada, fried shrimp, curly fries, cheese, queso fresco, sour cream, baja crema on a tomato & basil tortilla) and KC Burrito( with carnitas, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, curly fries on a flour tortilla). I enjoyed both but I did prefer the Surf N' Turf since I don't eat pork and accidentally took a bite of the burrito with pork( but it did taste good and would get it in a different protein). Lastly, we all got to try Tiki Tacos version of Klondikes Choco Taco... however, Tiki Taco's version was better. The Tiki Choco Taco had churro ice cream(from neighboring ice cream shop( High Hopes Ice Cream)), waffle cone, chocolate dipped)... I will definitely be ordering this again and again. I ordered the Baja Shrimp Tacos as they're my favorite. They're so fresh and filling. I tried the new "pineapple fuego" drink. It was sweet with a hint of spice and had tajin on the rim. The bartender and staff were very polite. The music was soft and the place was filled quickly during lunch but they dished out the orders extremely quickly. This was my first time trying this location of Tiki Taco, I've only ever been to the one off 39th. I got to try so many different things I had not had before from here, my new favorite item has to be their Birria tacos (no consome because theirs is thick and made into a sauce on the taco already - LOVE this idea btw). If you are vegetarian their fried avocado taco is super tasty and flavorful. The burritos are HUGE and more than filled with all the ingredients. Big shrimp in the burritos, surf and turf is always a sound choice! I love that this location has a patio seating, it's a great spot to grab a margarita and some tacos. For a more classic approach, their al pastor tacos are fabulous and they have 4 salsa options from mild to habanero and they're all delicious. Don't skip out on giving them a try, they have locations all over KC metro! It took me awhile to get to TikiTaco but man am I glad that I did. I came here after a zoo outing with my cousin and our two kiddos. One thing I love about TikiTaco is that it's pretty kid friendly, with simple taco options, along with all kinds of fun flavors for grown-ups. On the first visit I sampled an avocado taco and a korean taco. I loved them both, but the avocado stole my heart. It might be the best avocado taco in town in my opinion. Fast forward a few weeks and I found myself in the neighborhood around lunch time so I picked up some burritos for myself and my husband. Holy cow. I had their take on a chimichanga and I'm legitimately still dreaming about it. Perfectly fried, juicy, amazingly seasoned. I took a bite on my way home and even though I was full 2/3s of the way through I pretty much ate the whole thing just because it was that good. Tiki Taco is one of my favorite spots in KC. Every time I come home and visit, I always have to make a stop. It's kind of like a casual taco spot, but the vibe for me is absolutely perfect. Depending on the day, there's usually quite a few people there, but it's not crowded or I never have issues with long wait times. I usually get the nachos with either ground beef or chicken and it has never filled me, but I think it's time I try something new. I love the original 39th street location and I'm so glad that I discovered this location down the street from Brookside. The building itself is cute and reminds me of an old school Taco Bell but with neon. They have a large patio and some seating indoors too. There is also a take out window inside. The staff are all super nice and attentive. I wandered up to the bar to place a to go order but I had to order a margarita or two first. The margarita was fantastic. It was just a classic margarita on the rocks with salt and it was presented so pretty! My go to is the chicken jerk taco. It has amazing flavor and the perfect amount of spice. I also tried a carne asada chimi. The presentation was a bit weird, it reminded me of a toaster strudel almost. But it was also really good and I'd order it again. We popped in here on a Tuesday evening. Prior to this, I had only ever gotten takeout from the 39th St location. I was pleasantly surprised with the setup, full bar and vegetarian and vegan options they have on the menu. We placed our orders and then sat outside on the patio. Our food and drinks came out in about 10 minutes. I had gotten the Tiki Bowl with jackfruit and the "hottest" sauce. It was really good and completely loaded with delicious veggies and peppers. A lot of places are chintzy with their jackfruit portions but this was chock full of it. The only qualm I have is that the sauce comes in a tiny cup. I'll have to get two next time (sauce is extra).
