I am pleasantly surprised by Tik's Thai Express. We ate here one weekend and it wasn't too busy. There are two sides to the restaurant. When you walk in, the left side seems a bit nicer. But both sides are basically the same. For drinks I tried both the thai iced tea and the green tea slush. Both were super sweet, but the green tea slush was just too sweet. It tasted like diabetes sweet and I usually like my drinks sweet. The thai iced tea was a little better. And way better than the thai iced tea at House of Thai. For the appetizers, we had the fish cakes and the baby angels (similar to crab rangoons but replace the crab with shrimp). Both were delicious. The fish cakes are what you usually get in a Thai restaurant. So it's consistent here. Although I wish they had shrimp cakes too. Those are so much better. The baby angels are dangerous to eat. Since it's a deep fried eggroll, as soon as you take a bite into it the hot melted cheese squirts out and burns your mouth. If you love eating spicy food, we got the papaya salad and got it beyond their levels 1-5 spicy and it had a nice kick! You won't be disappointed. The drunken man noodles was an good pick too. There was a decent amount of chicken in it to leave you satisfied. The most disappointing dish however was the orange chicken. Really it should have been renamed to sweet and sour chicken. It was served with bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, and onions. I've never had orange chicken served with all these vegetables before and it was off putting. I'm used to having it with chicken only. Their menu only says it's served with broccoli. The sauce was entirely too sweet. Again with the two sweet for this place. I found myself propping up the dish so that all the sauce drained to one side, and eating the chicken that was kind of separated by the sauce. But by then, you're better off getting orange chicken at Panda Express. It's cheaper too. Despite this, Tik's was a good choice for lunch. I would come back. read more

Was not expecting too much from this mom and pops thai place but wow! The food was all very good. Lots of authentic flavors and spice. They also added the fried egg I requested which was not on the menu which was a nice touch. Place is clean, lots of seating and attentive waitresses. This place is very nice on the inside. On the outside, it appears to be a very casual strip mall spot. But, the decor inside is very vibrant and nice. You enter and order at the counter. I've had Tik's Thai a number of times.... it's just consistently kinda meh. The flavors are pretty good, but the quality of their meat is low. Vegetables are chopped inconsistently. And fried items taste like they need to change the oil in the fryer... like a month ago. To top it off, come in at 1:35 for the lunch specials which are posted as available until 1:40, and they'll tell you that you're too late.... huh? If you need your Thai fix, we'll ok... just don't expect too much. read more

Verdict: Express has its perks and its pitfalls. The latter wins here. Tik's is an option if you're really short on time for lunch. They aren't kidding when they say express. I opted for the chicken curry and pad thai with the rice. The food was plentiful but the flavor was not. The chicken was tough and the pad thai was probably the most underwhelming I can recall. I'd say rice is rice but a good foodie knows that's not accurate. It would be accurate to say that this rice was rice. The dish also came with some fried wontons. They weren't bad. I have less of an issue with the food than I do with the service here. I have known several former employees of Tik and have dealt with her issues personally, as a formerly-regular customer. Personally, I used to eat there daily, but that ended when Tik ran out of the restaurant screaming at me for asking that my Pad Thai TOFU be remade when they gave me Pad Thai CHICKEN (which I did not and never had ordered). But I have also heard Tik and some of her employees speaking in a racist way about various ethnicities - usually anyone but Asians. I also witnessed Black employees being told that they have to wear make up, when other employees were never told this. Black employees were told that they had to straighten their hair so it wasn't "that way" (i.e. Black hair needed to look more like Asian hair). I'm neither Black nor Asian, so this isn't about me, but that sort of racism, as well as Tik's aggressive "customer is always WRONG" approach let me to stop spending money with her, and to go to House of Thai or any other great Thai spots in the area. read more

We ate here twice before I decided to review. The experiences were completely different. The first time my boyfriend and I came in with another couple. One side of the restaurant is close quarters. Almost like a fast food setup. Cute, clean, but tight. Our waitress was quite a character. We had spring rolls. I ordered red curry. Completely vegan. My boyfriend had a chicken and basil rice thing, I think. They bring out an extra spice caddy for your table if you request it. We did. A girl we were with had orange chicken and the meat eaters agreed it was fantastic. My curry was alright. I was disappointed to find out it had pineapple in it. I can't have pineapple and that wasn't listed on the menu. I'm sure that was good, but I picked it out. It was still pretty good but, eh. I'd eat it again but add spice. If you like just creamy and kinda cool, it's your thing. When I looked on Yelp, everyone said "get the pad Thai!" So my boyfriend and I went back. This time we sat on the other side. It's amazing. Airplanes from the ceiling, pretty lighting, yellow walls. I don't understand, but I love it. There's also a weird fake fireplace. Hypnotic. My boyfriend had the same dishes as last time. They were solid. I went with the pad Thai, no fish sauce. And it was fantastic! I could eat that stuff every day. I should have followed the wisdom of the crowd the first time. Food has been good in the past. For a while actually. Recent order went awry unfortunately. Rice was dry and hard and the taste was less than desirable. Let management know about the issue and they said they'd remake on the house for the next visit. Arrive to pick up at next visit and the owner shows up at the counter and treated me horribly. Asserted that I was the issue and then said "You can have your meal for free but just know I will be making the manager pay for your meal. Is that what you want?" Cannot believe I went to this place for so many years. Will not return. The name speaks for itself: it's truly an express Thai restaurant with a very limited menu offering just a few Thai curry, noodle (pad thai, pad see ew, drunken noodles), fried and a few chicken/beef dishes. This place is small, nothing too fancy. The dishes/choices for their lunch specials are already cooked and available at the hot bar. Once you place and pay for your order, they will pack for you. There is seating if you like to dine in. I got lunch special #2 to go. The cream cheese rangoon was just that, cream cheese wrapped in a wonton wrapper and deep fried. They placed the rangoon on top of the basil chicken so it soaked up the sauce and got soggy when I opened the container. The basil chicken was decent, but lacked in the "basil" department. There was only 1 basil leaf. I didn't taste the basil in the dish. It was all green bell pepper, green bean and canned bamboo. The pad thai was bad. It was overly sweet, just way too sweet for my liking. Authentic pad thai has a balance of saltiness, sweetness and sourness. However, their pad thai sure missed out in the saltiness and sourness departments. There was no meat or bean sprout in the pad thai, just egg, carrot, green onion and cabbage. It's quite unusual for me as I haven't had pad thai anywhere with cabbage. read more

I ordered Tik's this evening and ordered extra on my meal, not only did it come in a small container there was not extra in my meal! When you spend over $20 dollars on one meal you expect a lot of food but it was not a lot! They ripped me off! We also added extra in another meal and spent over $17 on it and there was not extra in it! I'm not sure if it was because it was a Door Dash Order so they thought it wouldn't matter to just rip us off or if this is their normal practice however we won't order there again! read more

This time the price had gone up to $9.95, I had 1/4 less of the food I normally get and they didn't give me a crab rangoon like they always have before. First impression was, "oh no!" I came here for lunch and saw the cart with a bunch of different food for the lunch combo. The assumption here was that it was not freshly made and instead it was stored in those buffet containers. From this, I thought that this place can't be any good. I ended up getting the Pad Thai (not lunch combo) and it was just a bit more expensive than the combo. I was impressed as it tasted pretty good. This place is not your typical sit down place as the name of the restaurant is express Thai. Their Boba Tea was $4, which seems a bit too pricey. All it was is some half and half, thai tea, and blended crushed ice. The ice definitely ruined the flavor with the off ice taste. I would just prefer the regular thai tea next time. Pad see ew - too oily and don't like it very much. Will not get this dish again. Drunken man noodles - Tastes like pad kee mao. It was pretty good, but would still prefer pad thai. Pad Thai - Probably my favorite dish from this place. I wish they would give some lime and bean sprouts with the pad thai though. Chili Chili Tilapia - The presentation was outstanding. It was very colorful. However, I felt that the sauce is a bit over powering with all the taste of sweet, sour, and saltiness. Other than that, this dish is pretty good. Tom Yum - I wasn't really impressed with their tom yum. I've had much better tasting one. The tom yum will only come with rice if you buy the large portion. I guess they don't sell rice separately. Thai Tea - Very good. I would get it again. Spicy from 1-4. I get 4 (spiciest) spicy and it's not even really hot at all. The food here is a bit oily, but it's still pretty good. They need to up their game with the spices. I'm not sure if it's just me, but their I can't really feel the spiciness levels. They do have another restaurant location that is more expensive because it is a full restaurant, unlike this express one. read more

They came deep fried instead of pan fried ( I should have asked how they prepare them) with the wrapper having the consistency of a potato chip and flavorless pork filling. Next was the Basil Chicken. Rubbery chicken with undercooked vegetables in a watery sauce. Medium heat level here is similar the cracked pepper so if you want hot go to 5. The room was full and pleasant enough. But I think you could find better. read more

You wouldn't know by looking at it, but this Ohio based Thai spot is tremendous! The moment you walk in you are greeted by a warm smile and an exquisite atmosphere. The menu is simple but with many delicious options in the classic "set your own spice level" format (1 being mild and 5 being the spiciest). To start I began with the dumpling soup, that was served hot, with all veggies having the desired crunch you'd expect from classic Thai cuisine. For my entree I had the Drunken Man (spice level 3) and I couldn't have been happier. The portions were large, the spice was perfect, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. If you're traveling through (like me) or live here, you'd be doing a disservice to yourself if you didn't eat here. Make it a usual stop when you need a little spice in your life. read more
