Excited to have a new go-to bagel shop! I came at noon on a Saturday and despite the line being out the door and it being later in the day, they were still fully stocked with all flavors of bagels. They were pretty fast too, given the circumstances. Their sandwiches come with cream cheese which I'd never seen before and added extra flavor! Inside is very spacious and open feeling. The bagels and cream cheeses are top tier. Why only 4 stars? Two reasons 1. The egg texture is kind of off putting- like silken tofu. 2. No decaf espresso! I was really looking forward to getting a latte but due to a medical condition, I have to be really careful about my caffeine intake. I understand not having decaf cold brew or decaf coffee since you have to brew a LOT and if only a few customers want decaf it's a waste. But espresso is made by the serving so there's not a huge risk of waste by just having a bag of decaf espresso coffee lying around for the occasional customer that wants it. Probably 9/10 coffee shops I've been to in Chicago have decaf espresso so it was really disappointing that I was not able to get a latte here. read more

I was recommended this place so I went to try it for breakfast. I had no idea that this place was popular so I was surprised that there was a rather long line out the door. The wait to get in was about 20 minutes, and once in, there was another 5-10 minute wait to place an order. They serve bagels (of course), different flavors of cream cheese, and sandwiches. When ordering a sandwich you can choose the type of bagel you want it on, as well as what flavor of cream cheese. I ordered a Chicken Caesar with a Cacio e Pepe bagel and sun-dried tomato cream cheese. It tasted great! I loved how I could taste the pepper of the bagel, and the chicken was cooked well. My only complaint is that I felt that the bagel didn't have the chewiness I was expecting for a bagel. The texture was moreso like a tough sourdough bread in a way. Eh. The first sandwich I purchased was toasted and delicious. The egg was weird and small-so was the piece of cheese. The 2nd sandwich was not toasted and I asked for carmelized onion cream cheese, but it is scallion cream cheese and the scallions are not carmelized. Charging $10+ for bagel sandwiches should make them something special. They're just not. I also noticed during my last visit, none of the tables had been cleaned off. Opening day the line was literally down the block all Generation Z to Millennials. 2 weeks later this Sunday at 9am the line inside is still strong. Is it worth the hype? How's the food? We got the crispy potato with chorizo($12) AND - I like it. The bagel is softer than NY. I appreciate that it's not overloaded with cream cheese. Lakeview East's newest bagel shop is finally here! While Tilly's is not new to the City of Chicago, it is stepping up the neighborhood's breakfast game with its newest store. I came here both on opening day and on a Tuesday morning. I love a chewy bagel, and Tilly has a great variety of flavors and spreads. They also have a full coffee bar, which is amazing to have on the side. The space is brand new with a good amount of inside seating too. The staff is very friendly and does a great job of managing orders. I'm so happy to have this new establishment in my neighborhood! See you soon! read more

I am not a bagel aficionado by any means, and don't really care about bagels specifically outside of their role in breakfast. I like bagels, I buy them at the store regularly, but I wouldn't normally go out of my way for them. However I found myself here on a Friday morning for a spontaneous visit with a friend. Normally, walking in to a small store with a big line means I turn right back around but in this case I stuck it out for my friend. I loathe places that refuse to manage their lines. This place is small and they need a system but they'll never get one. Instead, they leave customers to figure out how to line up in the tiny store, with your Lincoln park moms and their strollers and people with tiny dogs, everyone oblivious and ignorant to any semblance of order. The pickup area is in an awkward spot, the drink condiments are in an awkward spot, I just felt uncomfortable and cramped the whole time. It was pretty much everything I hate in a trendy breakfast spot. But I digress. Maybe you love that vibe, and you want to be SEEN while you're getting your bagel. Tilly's is the place for you. After a 15 min wait I finally placed my order, a cheese and garlic bagel with butter and an 8 oz Diet Coke. With tax it was $9, which seems steep. The coke needed a bottle opener. I had to part the Red Sea of athleisured bodies just to get to the coffee bar to ask for them to open my soda. Then back to the pickup area. The employees are neutral, not particularly friendly or unfriendly. They're probably annoyed at the lack of organization for the freaking orders. We escaped the inside to sit on a bench outside and enjoy our bagels. Three people stopped to ask us "is that that new bagel place? How is it?" To which we replied "it's fine". The bagel was fine. It could have used a bit more salt but overall....it was a bagel. It was fine. I hate cream cheese so maybe that's the true differentiator for bagels. Would I go out of my way again? Definitely not. Is $9 too much for a bagel with butter and coke? Yeah. But I'm definitely not the target audience. So if bagels and trend and being cheek to cheek with your neighbors for a long time is your thing then this is the place for you. read more

I tried a cheddar garlic bagel from Tilly's and I thought it was doughy, had a weird aftertaste, and somehow no cheese flavor despite visible yellow cheese topping the bagel. I ate it at home the same day I bought it , lightly toasted it , and used my own cream cheese. This Brooklyn girl will not return and imho Steingold's is far superior. read more

On my quest to try all the new bagel spots this summer. Mainly because I feel so strongly that the bagels in Chicago are not nearly as good as the New York bagels, and never will be. I was super excited to try Tilly because I always meant to go to the south loop location. We split the chicken Caesar bagel sandwich on the rosemary and garlic bagel with caramelized onion, cream cheese, and then the cinnamon bagel with the vanilla honey cream cheese. The sweet bagel was definitely my favorite because of vanilla vanilla honey cream cheese is absolutely insanely good. I didn't actually think the chicken Caesar with anything to write home about because I thought it should've had more filling but the cream cheese is really are the stars here. They are just super flavorful. The bagels were just a bit dry in my opinion? I don't know I feel I have never been able to find a bagel in Chicago where I am blown away. So it was fine, but I don't think I would go running back although it is pretty convenient to my house. read more

This is easily the best bagel I've had in Chicago. Have been here 3 times now and I have no complaints. My favorite is the Cacio E Pepe bagel with bacon chive cream cheese. The bagels are unique and flavorful and the ratio of bagel to cream cheese is great. Although the line can be long, the service has always been pleasant and you can order ahead online. The bagels were great, especially the veggie one. The tomato tasted like someone sourced it from their own backyard or from a really great farmers market. The bagel could've been toasted a bit for the outside but still good. The ambiance was not great, they should invest in a microphone for orders, specifically for Angus who had his order called out every 3 minutes for a good 20 minutes. Also they need to clean off tables more frequently as well. Couldn't sit at a table with all the crumbs. The feng shui of the place could be improved, the syrup bar is by the garbage and the line backs up into it. Tried for the first time today and LOVED it. I love the bagel texture (note that I like bagels that are fluffy - I know that's not a popular opinion).
