Came here right when it opened and it immediately filled up as we were ordering. I guess this is a pretty hot spot. They have a variety of bagels you can choose from when you pick a sandwich, including everything, egg, cheese, rosemary, poppy seed, and a few more. The sandwich is generous and very tasty. There's some seating but most people opted for takeout. Would definitely come here again for breakfast.

Good bagels! Order at the counter and take away or dine in, acres from Margis candies. I enjoyed the cold pressed OJ, looking forward to trying the breakfast sandwiches next time.

Pretty small spot, ideal for a pick up order but there is seating if you want to eat it inside. The bagels get the job done but it's kinda crazy how much better the machismo bagel sandwich is than the other ones. I really highly recommend the machismo. The staff are really kind. They don't have sriracha here BUT they kindly gave me a salsa to have with my bagel and tried their best to make me happy hahaha. Honestly most of the bagel sandwiches I've had (like the BEC) are really plain and NEED sriracha or something to give it more flavor. But somehow the machismo doesn't need it. Like I said before, get the machismo lol. Fair prices. Seriously is amazing to have this bagel spot here now, it's definitely filled a niche that this neighborhood was missing.

Tried 2 bagels and a burrito this weekend.. the prices and fillings are solid but disappointed in the bagels and tortilla as they were soggy / steamed texture. They should invest in a toaster and toast the bagels before loading them up, as soft steamed chewy bagel sandwiches aren't very appetizing. Same with the burrito, that outer shell needs more structure otherwise your burrito is falling apart. The everything bagel was pretty skimp on the everything topping but jalapeño cheddar was good.

Bagels have a weird aftertaste. I don't think I'll be back. It was an almost a dirt taste. Prices seemed ok. Space is pretty minimal. I wouldn't eat there. Felt a little grubby. People were nice enough. I didn't try the coffee but I'm guessing it's the same as the food. Pretty average.

I was finally able to stop in before they close and tried: - Chocolate Donut - El Machismo The donut was pretty good, but the El Machismo was standout. I had it on the regular bagel and it came with chorizo, egg, jalapeños, and a mayo based sauce. I would definitely get it again. The staff was also super friendly, so wanted to shout that out.

Incredible coffee, bagels, and Donas. Some of the best breakfast tacos I've ever had too

I was expecting this place to be overrated because of social media, but it was so good and lived up to the hype. El machismo bagel sandwich was so good I ate the entire thing even though it was a big serving. I haven't had a bagel sandwich like that anywhere, highly recommend. The chocolate donut was incredible--light and doughy, perfectly sweet. Unfortunately, the cafe con leche was really bad. The staff was nice. It was really busy, so be prepared to wait during peak morning times on the weekend.

Love this twist on a breakfast bagel sandwich! Everything had great flavor and tasted freshly made. We will definitely be back when in Chicago.

In 2025 there is an article that came up that said this was "the year of the bagel" for Chicago. After many decades of mediocre bagel options in the city, this year, we've seen a true explosion of quality bagels, and delicious options at these locations. I've gotta say this is one of the best I've had so far in the Midwest. I got the bacon, egg and cheese, and El Machismo, which were both incredibly good. The actual restaurant itself clearly has a vibe of to-go, but does have some tables if you want to sit down. Everyone was incredibly nice. But I love most about the bagel is their ability to have a nice slightly crunchy outside with soft and just chewing enough inside. I cannot wait to return.

Ordered through Uber Eats so I cannot comment on service or ambiance, but these bagel sandwiches are amazing! I got the chicken sausage egg and cheese with chive cream cheese. It was supposed to be on a sesame, but I received an Asiago which wasn't ideal but still great

This place is TOP NOTCH! Delicious food, damn the burrito!!!! So good. Also thoughtful, efficient but chill, no fuss service. And kind people, good people. Highly recommend! Sry for the pic we ate everything lol but 4get the pic just go yourself homie

So far I have had a bacon egg and cheese, and a everything bagel with cream cheese and the bagels are very good. The everything bagel comes with a lot of seeds but I'd like them to add more garlic to the mix. My boyfriend tried the breakfast burrito which was huge and delicious. So excited to have a local bagel spot now!

I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

I don't know what technique they do it get or keep so much topping on them, but it's a pleasure to have too much rather than not enough. They service beer here which makes it slightly unbreakfasty and their bagel sandwiches used baked eggs rather than griddled/flat topped or from a pan. Keeps them fluffy, but I prefer mine a little runnier. Service is very good, friendly, not rushed or fake hospitality. They cure their lox in house which to me feels more tender than other places, probably just a lower, longer heating or a gentler cure. Excellent schmear, a not heavy handed when scooping (respect the schream cuz). Prices are pretty good considering the care and love they put into the bagels (hand rolled, multiple proofs). They have crunch, chew, density, but air pockets. Chef/owners def put thought into the menu with flavors like zatar, dilly ranch deviled eggs. Dr. Browns sodas. Baclava cappuccinos.
