A few notes before I get i to the food: garage parking is $3 but they will validate (no one asked, even at the stores I shopped at, but according to yelp online that is what it says). Happy hour starts at idk but ends at 6. $2 off cocktails and $1 off beer on tap (i think). There is no waiter service. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Outdoor dining is available. Kids meal is a a grilled cheese on sourdough with fresh fruit for $5. Bit of a cheese bomb, but it IS a grilled cheese. I had to tear off the cheese oozing out bc my kids were having a sh$& fit about it. Add ham for a dollar. The pimiento cheese with crostini is served cold and good. The fig, prosciutto and mozzarella panini and good and filling. It comes with a carrot salad, that although healthy, it falls flat. Tried to be a good adult and eat it the shizzy, but eventually I had to abort the mission. You can substitute simple greens or a cup of soup for an extra $2. The tomato soup is offered every day or there is a soup of the day to choose from. The tomato soup was tasty. Service was kind of slow even though there weren't too many people dining there around 4 pm. Dunno what that was all about. Overall decent eats that are reasonably priced. read more

One of my favorite go to wine and cheese places in Charlottesville. I love the ambience and how it makes me feel like I'm in a city. My favorite plate is the burrata with beets and pesto. You would never assume that beets and pesto would work but this combination is a match made in heaven. I enjoy the wines especially during their happy hour and have usually left with a bottle for home after being able to taste a few options. The plates are a good size for sharing with friends or even as a small dinner. The cheese and charcuterie boards are also decently sized with a wide variety of meats and cheeses that go well together. I have tried their cheese boards during happy hour and the portions during that time frame is smaller than what you would expect for the price. We enjoyed a delicious lunch here on a Sunday around 2. There were plenty of open tables, staff was friendly and our food was brought out fairly quickly. Really such a great place with an amazing atmosphere. Came in today with a friend for lunch and really enjoyed everything! The location itself is super cute on the inside. I loved the decor and how there was dimmer seating towards the inside and lighter seating towards the door. Since it was a beautiful day we sat out on the patio, which is also just as nice. We both got the sangria for drinks and it was delicious! I loved how it was just the right amount of dry and sweet, and the fresh fruit were also delicious. To start out we ordered the pimento cheese small plate which was perfect. The toasted and seasoned baguette perfectly complimented the cheese. We both loved the jelly combo added to the cheese; the spice and sweet together was a great flavor addition. We also go the baguette and panini of the day, in our case mozzarella pesto and turkey, and they were both delicious. Overall a great experience, will hopefully come back (eventually)! read more

In addition to a beautiful wine list, they also have great food! The roasted brussels sprouts are amazing (if a little small), and the chocolate cake with merlot ganache??? the stuff of dreams. truly, you need this cake. I love that they serve (and sell!) the awesome vermouth from Flying Fox, as well as other locally made wines. Tilman's is one of my favorite places to eat and is always one of my first stops when I'm in Charlottesville (I live in Delaware)! I've dined here several times before but last weekend was special as I have been going on and on about how good the food is to my oldest daughter and we finally had the chance to go together. The weather was perfect (on 5/21) and we dined outside in the beautiful mall seating area. I ordered my usuals....the Brie, fig and speck crostini and Tilman's meatballs. My daughter had the caprese panini with carrot salad. All were absolute perfection! The Brie crostini is to die for.....I've tried unsuccessfully to create this dish at home and it doesn't even come close! The meatballs are melt in your mouth delicious...seasoned perfectly and the sauce is mouth watering good! My daughter raved about her caprese panini and carrot salad. Portions are generous and we ordered waaaay too much food for 2 people lol I love the quaint atmosphere inside and was very impressed with the excellent service we received in the outside dining area. I will be back in town this coming weekend and will stop at Tilman's first chance I get! I always say I want to try something different but I can't pass up my usuals! Great spot to try wine and unwind after a long day. At the time of our visit, Tillman's happy hour runs until 6 on every weekday except Monday where it lasts until closing. I thought the happy hour was reasonably good value with a fair number of options. I had a nice time sipping wine outside on the Downtown Mall and chatting with friends. I split a cheese board with my partner. My only complaint was that there was not enough bread provided to consume alongside a comfortable amount of cheese and bread. But I thought the boards (that the cheese, bread, and jam were served on) were fun and I enjoyed the jams and cheese that I tried. I been eyeing this spot for a while on the downtown mall. We went here for happy hour. They have a decent selection for their happy hour wine (white, red, rose, and others). The snacks options are pretty legit as well. The meatballs were delicious!! It was the perfect amount to split between two people. I definitely want to come back to split a charcuterie board and try the other apps! Nice happy hour spot with a wonderful atmosphere. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating which is great for a warm day. My husband and I sat at the bar when we went, and unfortunately the service was fairly slow and the waitress was not too warm or welcoming. We got a cocktail and glass of wine, respectively, and were pleased with the selection and what we ordered. We tried the pimento cheese and crostini, which was yummy but the ratio of cheese to crostini was WAY off. We had tons of leftover cheese and when we asked for a few more crostini to finish it off the waitress rudely told us we could just go to the counter to buy more if we wanted. Haven't been here for happy hour yet but I've been here a few times for lunch! The prosciutto and fig panini and herbed goat are my go-to sandwiches. I highly recommend the tomato soup too if you're getting a warm panini or grilled cheese! They have a rotating panini of the day that always sound good and definitely worth trying. There's a nice bar on the inside that i'd love to come back and try for a happy hour and maybe order a nice cheese board. Looking forward to trying that sometime! I wish swapping the carrot salad out for greens wasn't considered an up charge (i understand it for soup or another side, but it's just simple greens?). What a cute little place for wine tasting and delicious tapas. It's on the pricier side but the vibe and the service are great! The food also tastes really good- very delicately made and with fresh ingredients. The goat cheese prosciutto and arugula French bread was fantastic! It tasted refreshing and went so well with the red wine we got. The meatballs were great, too, with the freshly made tomato sauce. We split a bottle of wine and the price was reasonable. My only is complaint is that they are a little pricey. 20 dollars will get you a flight, but the local wineries you can get a tasting for ten bucks. The location is beautiful and well lit. Very cozy.
