It's been minute since I've been to any Spot location but I was disappointed to see there was no more salad menu. There is now only a Cobb salad premade in the cooler. I can't have things in it so I decided to post pone my lunch. The woman at the counter helped me check the non dairy milk ingredients to ensure I could consume this safely. Lucky for me it was ok but it had a lot of junk, seed oils, etc, kind of disappointing. I got an iced coffee with a splash of almond milk. My aunt saw that under the menu there was a tiny flier listing smoothie flavors. It's weird that you could hardly see what it said and there was no printed out menu or sign at the counter to show the flavors. The woman at the counter rattled the options off quickly but seemed a little annoyed about being asked. My aunt settled on a flavor and we took our drinks outside. Overall the drinks were fine, nothing special. We also realized when we wrapped up there was no trash can near the outdoor tables. Between that and the smoothie menu it didn't feel like the customer experience was considered.

I ordered an egg breakfast sandwich with home fries and an apple juice, which came out to about $25. While the food itself was a bit on the bland side and felt a little limited for the price, the ambiance really stands out. It's a great place to catch up with friends or family over brunch and enjoy a warm, welcoming vibe. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit, but I'm glad I stopped in and appreciated the atmosphere.

Here's where it all fell down. After placing my order, I turned my back, reading the menu. Then I heard the microwave "ding" and saw my pain au chocolat removed. Really?? (I once had a Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef explain that croissants should never be re-heated because it ruins the scaffolding of the butter/flour feuille, or "sheets"). I then tried the various seats in the Danish-style cafe. Stool? No love: They're metal and lack cushions. Chairs at the tables were also metal. I settled in an honest-to-God church pew: The kind the Puritans used, to reflect upon their sins. Do yourself a favor and get your treats to go.

However, liquid nitrogen canisters were nowhere to be found as all of their stuff came out of boxes. I thought the entire draw of using molecular gastronomy was to flair involved in making the food, not necessarily the end product. And because of that and the weather, their ice cream was put at a big disadvantage. Yet they still managed to win the rookie-of-the-year award at the competition. At least one of the workers there let me get 2 items worth 10 tickets for 9 b/c that's all I had left. I had the "Have your cake and eat it too" (aka cake batter ice cream) and a "Nitro Pop". I was intrigued when visiting the Galleria to quickly pay some bills. Located on the second floor right outside of Macy's, it's worth to stop even just to watch and to be amazed. Three employees where quickly moving around the little shop amist a gathering of people just as curious as I was. The large tanks of nitrogen were spouting the gas and the ice cream creators were quickly stirring the concoction as the ohhs and ahhs were being heard. You could either get a flavor of nitro cream and add your own toppings or there is also a list of sundae-like menu options. Flavors like vanilla, chocolate, mint, strawberry, cake batter, pitschao, and coffee were options. The saying of Go big or go home flashed in my mind. So I ended up going with Nitro Mike's Fav which was cake batter ice cream with cookie dough, peanut butter mixed it. The ice cream was very creamy and yet seemed a little less heavy than a typical Perry's offering. The price ended up being just over $6 with tax. They apparently also catering at special events like weddings and birthdays which is a pretty cool idea. The employee who made my order also mentioned that more franchises are coming. But right now they are only at the Walden Galleria mall. As much of a haven of canadiens that the Galleria has become, I feel I'll bear it to have some more of their ice cream!
