They have 3 menus - The Google online says Chicken Suya is 14.99$, Menu in the store says 15.99$, Yelp says 18.99$. I have clearly asked the lady if Chicken Suya is made from raw chicken breast instead of thin slices that are usually why Suya is a bit expensive. Unfortunately, I got really a small portion of chicken breast cut into pieces and a small side of suya seasoning. Not a good experience and I would ask the restaurant work on a standard menu first that is same across all platforms. read more

Came here for lunch with a group of 6 for lunch. We ended up getting 4 dishes with 2 sides each dish, 4 mocktails and 2 soft drinks. When parties are 6 or more a 18% gratuity is included in the bill our total was $110 which for all the food we received was a pretty good deal. Everyone left full and there was still unfinished rice. The service was good, just note that they operate on Caribbean time so the food does take a little bit more time. The waitress did check in here and there, but if you needed something extra it did take time before she circled back around to our table. The place was not full when we went, but during a packed house, I imagine you will need to pack your patience. All the food was prepared fresh and was very good. The jerk chicken had just enough spice to feel it, but not overwhelm you. The stewed chicken was nice and flavorful and a good dish for someone to dip their toe into African/Caribbean cuisine. The jollof rice was very tasty preferred this over their rice and beans a nice little smoky flavor very well sliced. The oxtail was flavorful and melt off the bone. Plantains they served were the sweet ones, I prefer the unripened plantains but these were prepared well if you like the sweet variety should enjoy these plantains. read more

We had barely left the restaurant before the experience started going downhill. I ordered a spicy ginger drink, but after bringing some of the drinks, the waitress said she would return with my ginger beer. I corrected her and explained that I ordered spicy ginger, not ginger beer. Two minutes later, she still brought ginger beer. When I reminded her again, she responded with attitude and finally said they didn't even have spicy ginger available. I asked waitress not to add chicken, okra soup came with chicken in it. To make matters worse, my son specifically ordered his steak well done, yet it arrived pink inside. The okra soup was actually good, but the jollof rice was terrible. We spent close to $250 on food, and the only thing that was truly enjoyed was the okra soup. On top of that, there was a $34 service charge added, while tax and gratuity were charged separately as well. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I personally would not recommend this place to anyone. I definitely will not be returning. Visit at your own risk. read more

Food was delicious!!!! Service was great! One thing I did not appreciate was the menu stated there is an automatic 18% gratuity for parties of 4+. We were a party of 2 . I never mind gratuity in fact we left extra but I just appreciate accurate information if you put a policy in place. read more

I ordered Jollof rice and GOAT PEPPER SOUP. And these people sent me rice and 3 raw ass chicken wings. I ordered through door dash. What ever you do .DO NOT order from them without being in the restaurant. That was just plain lazy ( not to let the customer know you were out) and TRIFFLING to give me 3 raw chicken wings in place of the 25 00 soup I ordered. People need to learn Ethics in business. In my husband order a draft and 2 shots of crown...we also ordered the okra soup with chicken and fufu ..it was delicious i will be coming back again....and the drinks where great tonight was me and my husband first time visting the restaurant it was right in front of the hotel we where staying at... I think. It is at a great location....You can go in and get you a nice drink if you staying at the hotel and don't have to worry about driving to a location just because you wanna drink... We arrived at the restaurant and there was no sign or anyone to welcome us and let us know where to sit. We had to walk in towards the back and ask the bartender. After we were seated we then had to ask for silverware and napkins. My main concern was the quality and freshness of the food. When I arrived, most of the food was scanty and looked like it was sitting outside for long. This was 2pm so the restaurant had only been open for 2 hours. Most of the food we ate wasn't even hot/warm enough. The rice (jollof rice and white rice) both smelled as if it were spoiled. It wasn't until almost an hour or two hours later when we were getting ready to leave when fresh food was brought out. Instantly after eating, I started feeling sick and later vomited when I got home. I was so excited to try out the brunch special for the first time and even invited friends but it was a terrible and disappointing experience for us all. Had a great experience here. My friends and I ordered multiple dishes and shared so that we could get a taste of more options. Planning on going back during one of the Sunday buffets. It's on the first Sunday of each month. The music and vibe were good, played a good mix of Afro/ Caribbean hits. The staff were kind and informative. We wanted to ask about dishes and suggestions and they answered with no problems. Even met the owner and spoke with him a bit. He walked around and greeted the guest. Also if you don't like spicy they tone it down because of all the feedback they were getting and people sending it back because of the heat; so I understand. I love a goooood african restaurant and Lagz didn't disappoint at all. I met up with a friend of mine there one Friday evening and it wasn't to crowded inside and we sat at bar. The restaurant is quite big and spacious with a patio on the side. The bartender was attentive to our needs and was very nice and always with a smile. I ordered the Suya chicken which came with jollaf rice and cabbage. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the cabbage, OH MY GOD THE CABBAGE WAS AWESOME! this was a very good meal and I look forward to coming back and making this a normal routine of visiting. read more

Let's start off by saying I'm pescatarian. I feel under the weather so it was recommended to get pepper soup. This location was the only location that offered a seafood version which I was glad to see. I'm not in the mood to drive so I order Uber eats. when the food arrived, It felt heavy so I was excited thinking they loaded my plate. To my surprise they gave me a bowl of goat I instantly gagged. I feel nauseous because I did taste the soup and eat a piece of shrimp. There was barely any soup either! Mind You they gave me about three shrimp. I did not receive any catfish. They should've just canceled the order instead of taking my money that would've been better. So the food here is hit or miss depending on the day the time the staff the cooks is definitely hit or miss. The bathrooms are never clean, especially the ladies the bar, depending on your bartender you might get a nice strong drink or you might get a water down drink, depending on the bartender. The best vibe is definitely going to be nights and weekends, specifically Saturday nights is the best night. They are packed if you are looking to socialize if you are looking to actually eat, I do not recommend coming to dine in as a restaurant on a Saturday night here. read more

First time my husband and I tried African food. I ordered takeout Jollof Rice with stewed chicken and cabbage and beef meat pies. It took about 15 minutes. As soon as I got home and opened the container I smelled a hint of something burnt. After tasting the rice we came to the conclusion that the rice was burnt. Almost like the pot was scorched and the smell permeated the dish. Because this was our first experience, we didn't know if it was supposed to taste that way (I googled, it's not). The chicken tasted ok, but I was looking for some type of spice. It was bland. The cabbage was pretty good. The meat pies were good but a bit expensive for the size. They are smaller than Jamaican patties and come with some tasty sour cream. I threw out the other food because we couldn't really eat it or enjoy it because of the burnt taste. I live in north Charlotte and this is on the west side, about 20 minutes away, so there was no need to bring the food back, this is just a lesson learned. read more

My Nigerian friend was especially disappointed in the food and didn't want to finish his meal. We ordered Egusi, Efo Riro, moin moin, asun and Isi ewu. When he spoke to the owner, he was very rude and walked away while he was talking. He spent $150 on food and was completely disappointed. They were little dough balls called puff puffs, that tasted like funnel cakes. She helped me choose a few dishes to try. These dishes did not disappoint. The rice wasn't bad but the Moi moi (Bean pudding) i ordered from them for dine in was BAD and couldn't eat it, but the waiter told me that because the manager isn't around, they can't take it off my bill... and even though I couldn't eat it because it was bad, I still had to pay for it.
