I love this place soo much! I never hear people talk about it though so I feel like it is a hidden gem. They offer a great variety of food from soul food to Caribbean food to halal food and everything is super delicious and flavorful. The customer service is really great too which always goes a long way. The prices are good and the portions are big! I've had the oxtails, beef stew, curry chicken, halal food, and more from here and none of it has ever disappointed me. First timed trying Dominican food and I really enjoyed it! Ordered the Oxtail Stew (Rabo Guisado) not realizing it would be spicy. Not a huge fan of spice, but I couldn't stop eating it! The meat was so flavorful and tender. On the side were a (HUGE) pile of rice and stewed cabbage. For me personally, the meat portion was perfect for just one meal, while the sides were plentiful enough for two. Basically meaning the $15 price tag a little steep for me. The lady's always have attitudes, never smile and are quick to push you BUT nonetheless, food is good. As someone who has a never-ending need to scratch my Halal fix, I was typically going into uptown to grab a combo over rice from the cart. Since I don't live in uptown, this is particularly an issue when I'm not at work. Thankfully, I found this place just minutes from my apartment. Ordering here can sometimes be difficult as many of the staff don't speak very strong English. I've noticed that this can be more easily overcome by saying your order clearly, and watching to ensure everything in your order is correct. I always do the combo over rice, and I always do half-chicken and half-lamb with yellow rice. If you're a fan of halal food, you'll likely know that it often comes with the white and red sauce on top. This place only serves the white sauce on top, and the red sauce in small cups on the side. I always get two cups of the red sauce which makes it very spicy, but still edible. For $6.99, this provides a massive, delicious meal WITH a can of soda, and as a result is one of my most common dinners. Absolutely delicious and should be your next stop. read more

These people are deceitful. On 2 separate occasions I called before taking the time to Drive there and asked when they closed and both times was told 10. But when I pulled up at 9:35pm the first time and 9:20pm this current time they were closed. The second time there were actually workers inside and they looked so happy to tell me they were closed deceitfully early. Yal don't understand the pain I felt because one their food is actually amazing, 2 I hadn't ate all day because of work and was just looking forward to their wonderful food and it was tremendously painful when I was told they were closed. Was in the area having my car serviced at the dealerships so of course I started to get hungry and ventured to this walkable spot. All in all my experience was good. I went with the Lamb Gyro combo. Pros were this was only 5.99 ant portion size was large. Plenty of crinkle cut fries which is always a plus for me and the gyro was loaded with lamb meat. It comes with a canned soda as well so for price you can't beat it. I would no be able to do fast food for this cost. Service was great and soon as I walked up to the counter the friendly staff was willing to help. I placed my order, had a seat and soon the staff delivered my gyro to the table. I would say the negative for me was the lamb was chopped and my review is swayed more to the order. Even with the large portion size I would prefer thick slices of lamb. It was decent but not the gyro I was looking for and it has been an while since I had a lamb gyro. All that said, if in the area I would venture back and perhaps try something else on their large menu. I mean they have oxtail. I should have gone with that or the jerk chicken. read more

I started eating here last year. It was really good until this year. The score went down and they changed cooks. I visited yesterday for the first time in a few months. The service was great, but the food wasn't. The cabbage tasted funny so after a few bites I stopped eating. I ate all of the mac n cheese but got really sick about an hour later. A co-worker asked what I ate and I told her. She asked to see it if I had any left. She told me that the cabbage smelled sour and also had old pieces of cabbage mixed in. I know that they also have food trucks so I'm thinking these may have been left overs from the weekend. Disappointment, never had a letdown as unexpected as this place. Their Food Cart in uptown is so good I figured the brick & mortar location has to be phenomenal, man I was wrong. Walk in at 11:30 1/2 an hour into lunch service and tell the girls I'd like the chicken/lamb combo over rice, they said it wasn't ready and I'd have to wait 10 minutes. I thought, sure no problem, I really wanted the combo and I needed to stop by the Asian Supermarket across the street real quick anyway so left and came back 15 minutes later. 11:45 "Still not ready, just take a seat and we'll be with you soon." At this point I'm still the only one in the restaurant minus the two girls behind the counter. I've already invested 15 minutes, what's a couple more? 12:00 I'm asking how long because I've got to be in Monroe very soon. They had served 3 other customers ahead of me because they were ordering rotisserie or jerk chicken, they told me to come up and choose my rice. They then gave me my drink and said the meat would be ready in just a second. I also decided on a side of plantains for $1.99 since I had been staring at them for while now. They rang me up and I sat back down. 12:10 finally walking out the door... I feel like they only had me come up and choose my rice and pay so that I wouldn't leave. I wish I had. But I received the food so finally, time to see if it was worth the wait. Meat was good, a little dry, not as moist as the cart in Uptown. Lettuce and Tomato were fresh, tomatoes were great. The rice was notably bland, I don't understand how the rice at the cart has a mellow, complex spice and aroma to it and at the restaurant it literally has nothing to offer. The plantains were simply burnt, not blackened with spices, burnt. Trust me, I know plantains. It was also more expensive than Uptown. It 'appears' that you're getting more food than the cart but it's just more bland rice and less meat. Not a great trade off. Service was nothing to speak of. No apology for the wait, and no interaction at all the entire time I waited, even though for most of the time I was the only patron at the place. They have zero customer service awareness. Take my advice, go to the cart at Trade and Tryon. They can handle 5 times the amount of customers in a third of the time with better food. Chris and his team up there are just so much better, if the food wasn't great and his team so friendly, this visit would probably be the end. 2 Stars because apparently the food is the same, but what a bummer today's visit was... read more

This place is a food oasis! Delicious and then some. The portions are HUGE! FRESH food always and fast service. They even open at 10am with their full menu available, so you don't have to get eggs and coffee for breakfast instead.
